The OP has been muddled by the words Medical..........children under a certain age do not require a medical test which is what was meant, not medical insurance which is what the OP thought was meant. HTH.

DSO houses start around 170K aed p/a for a three bed, which are quite large. Gems DSO have a primary and secondary and would fit your fees, school is large. Also consider DESC for secondary which is very close to DSO and an excellent school, DESS is the sister primary school in Oud Metha, about 20 mins away. Also look at Hartland as sibing discounts for your primary children and later opening secondary, Kings Nad AL Sheba and the Mirdiff schools such as Uptown . edited by Lolacat on 30/04/2015

This information was on Which school advisor, presuming it is correct, but agin it could be incorrect? http://whichschooladvisor.com/qanda/admission-daughter-fs1-british-curriculum-school-session-201516/ The rules have changed for entry to schools in the UAE and it is now the norm for all non-UK curriculum schools that children must have reached the age of 4 years by 31st December to be able to enter school. This rule applies to US curriculum and International curriculum schools. Most schools will not now permit children to join until they have already turned 4 – which is the norm in most countries. The exception is the UK curriculum, as schools there generally start at FS1 and children can start school at the age of 3 years on 1st September. [b'>The Ministry of Education has accepted this difference, but only schools with approval from the MoE/local Education Zone are able to offer FS1 to this age-group. [/b'>My advice would be to check http://www.whichschooladvisor.com – Schools – Dubai nurseries as this is where the details of schools offering FS1 and FS2 can be found. You can then check by location on our interactive map on the Home Page and contact suitable schools. If you also check the latest availability information – also included on the link from our Home page – you will see which schools specifically mention FS1 availability. Good Luck!

Glad you have arrived safely and enjoying Dubai. A word of caution, most schools here are amazing comparable to schools you may be familiar with, mainly due to the fact they are a lot newer, some look like 5 star hotels. However, what goes on in the classroom and the ethos of the company behind the school will have more importance than anything else.;) edited by Lolacat on 30/04/2015

What might be "gross" to a lot of people can be seen as beneficial and/or culturally acceptable to others. Placenta has benefits: contains lots of nutrients and hormones, can help to balance your hormones and eliminate postpartum depression (due to hormone imbalance), can increase energy, reduce postpartum healing time, can increase your milk supply, even can reduce symptoms at menopause (you can save extra pills for later is what I understand) so for some people these potential benefits outweigh the "yuck factor". Now before this gets turned into some debate, I feel it's a personal choice. The placenta is dried and ground into pill form...encapsulated. No I do not know anyone who does it in Dubai but I have seen online where someone did it at home, maybe there's a kit for that? FMG is culturally acceptable to many, it does not mean its ok to others. Just because something has been used in traditional cultures (Chinese in this case) it does not mean it’s healthy. Like many of these traditional things in the day it was developed there was possibly a benefit???? Modern research is neither here nor there on it, but I would be interested as to why anyone would want to. Having handled hundreds of placentas and been covered and endured the odd mouthful of amniotic fluid more times than ever wanted I find it slightly stomach churning, especially placental smoothies………why?

I’m of the opinion that schools should not be using IPads if they cannot afford to purchase and regulate them their selves. In reality there is no need to have iPads in schools it’s a luxury and if the schools cannot budget and afford them then they can live without them.

Our eldest child is in Year 4 and we've never been asked to buy a tablet or pay for usage of one, it's all included. We don't pay for books either. Between our three children at school we pay over 150k a year in school fees, I'd be pretty unhappy if we had to pay for IT or books on top of that! I'm laughing because the word YET is still very possible as you know.........lol

Find a villa near a school and walk and take taxi's or get a driver until you feel brave enough, driving here requires confidence and you may need to just give yourself some time to settle in before bitting the bullet.

Here is the contact for Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, call and ask to speak to rentals for Cedre villas, for that budget and less you will easily find a lovely villa in a fabulous community within easy reach of DIFC and some of the schools you are looking at. Make sure you include all your set up costs in your budget and make your rental money work for you, i.e. find a place cheaper and use the rest for DEWA (water & electric & Housing fees). Google; DSOA.ae You can drive into DSO easily and get to view various houses in Cedre Villas and get a feel for the community. They have some new ones at good rental prices. Arabian Ranches you need an agent.....try to use the better ones and always make sure any agent you use is RERA certified. This protects you as a tenant, be aware in some communities there can be lots of red tape. Dubizzle is a site that has houses listed, note that many agents post the same houses for different prices. Always negotiate and make sure full maintenance is included. DSO villas owned by the DSO authority have excellent 24 hour maintenance and renting off the authority is as safe as it gets. DSO let you pay quarterly cheques and have short move out clauses, some places make you pay yearly and have no get out clause. Definitely renter beware and ask lots of questions, don’t trust what is just said to you by agents, always follow up with more research. Any house owned by a private owner in any of the communities do make sure the owners have paid any fees to the developers/community charges prior to you signing or paying anything. The schools you have narrowed down to are good/ok choices, ask lots of questions, the fee ranges are very different as are the ethos’s. When you visit Hartland make sure you meet up with Dr Paul Silverwood. edited by Lolacat on 27/04/2015

This is my personal explanation. THUMB UP: Good news I like what you are saying It is informative You have never been rude in previous posts I like you THUMB DOWN: Bad news What are you saying is sad You have been rude in previous posts I don't like you *Re. Earthquake. Do you thumb up someone in real life telling you that they divorced, had a car crash or a family member was involved in a earthquake? Well that just goes to show how the thumbs system is interpreted by different people. A thread about thinking about others who have been involved in a tragedy needs thumbs up to say "yes, I support that statement", a thumbs down says " I don't give a monkeys about anyone else and I’m selfish". This is why the whole thumbs thing should be removed as it is being misused and misinterpreted. Thumbing down by definition adds a negative connotation not a supportive one, there is no justification for its use on many of the threads, although some may be using it as an extension of their egos.

Does she really need a shadow? It may well be worth looking for which lessons she actually needs support in and see if you can employ someone directly (who is approved by the school) on a part time basis in order to reduce costs.

It is only slander when it is incorrect, even I saw a post the other day about a certain school, which seemed like good honest feedback, and it was quickly removed - it is walking on egg shells to have an honest opinion. I don't post very often on here, just like to see what everyone is saying, but I do believe there are some certain users that seem to get away with more than others, in a round about way promote many things, yet their post never get deleted. I appreciate there are rules, but all opinions of people should be able to be expressed whether they have a good or back experience or a good or bad recommendation. I'd love to agree re Slander when incorrect but the media laws are very strict on this, so the forum has to be regulated re this aspect. One just has to be careful with how one answers nowadays sadly.

Thank you all for taking the time out to reply. I really appreciate it. Right am now totally confused... So if anyone has a minute... If I live and kids go to school at Nord/ that area. Why am I then in the car all day? Where am I going? Should I live nearer to wherever that is? Did that make sense?? How long would it take husband to get to work. Will he go mad? (Or will he enjoy the break from his crazy wife?) Is jumeriah primary a good option?? Kids are academic but one is not terribly sporty (I'm being kind here) They'd both be better in a smaller place but think that isn't an option. Or is there another cunning option we should be looking at!? Like living someone more lively? (I'm not a party animal but like a few people around.) Ahhhhh. Am going slightly loopy now. Thanks for tip on parking space, sound well worth checking out. Whole package negotiation tips also very useful. I think you need to consider what sort of education you actually want and what your budget is. There is a big difference between many of the schools you are considering in both aspects. As suggested, find the school then the house/area to live. DIFC is easy from most areas. A search on here should share some more information about reloctaion/package advice, ask if you require more. Places in some schools that are established will be limited.

IMHO anyone who gets off a plane blindly drunk and behaving badly deserves some jail time regardless of where they are, it's totally irresponsible and a public nuisance. If you need to spoon feed people before they get on a plane somewhere else in the world then it’s rather a sorry state of affairs. The information is out there for those who are responsible and TBH you could spoon feed it to some and they would still go ahead so what they wanted. For years the Far East has made it very clear what the severe consequences of carrying are and yet still each year people do it. This is not the UK, so why there is a reference to the laws there is most perculiar.

Congratulations! You have quite a varied choice there for schools, all very different. For a prep independent school mentality that is nuturing look at Harland International school, based at Meydan neareast to DIFC, comes in very affordable comparative to Foremarke and Nord. For housing for DIFC, look at Jumeriah 1, 2 or 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis.

How do you attract someone's attention if you don't speak the same language ? Oh yes, a tap on the shoulder.... You NEVER EVER touch a person in uniform EVER like this. Had he been in certain other countries he may have had his head blown off by a fast reaction or thrown on the ground. There is no justification for any adult without special needs tapping a police officer on the shoulder, it's stupidity at best. To then become difficult when dealing with officials is just dumb. I can’t see what the fuss is about, you assault an officer of the law you will get a stiff penalty regardless of where ever you are in the world. So only people with special needs or learning difficulties are 'stupid' enough to tap someone's shoulder who's in uniform? Right Really that is a pathetic response, does it really need to be explained that there may be some with disabilities, issues who may need to communicate in other ways and therefore may use touch, therefore a blanket [i'>any adult [/i'>was not used allowing for exception and provision. What a seriously sad interpretation, i would never have thought anyone could have considered anyone with LD stupid like just posted or interpreted such a statement as such.

Whoah, I am not forcing my child to kiss our maid at all! Fair point from Daza that affection should come from the child, so yes, perhaps we shouldn't do that. Our DS is generally very kissy with people, it's one of the things he 'does'. My thinking behind it was to show him that our new maid is someone he CAN show affection to also, not SHOULD and I am not forcing the point on him at all. I ask DS to kiss our maid, I don't tell him. My fault for not being clearer in my explanation. It's also in context - so when we say Good Morning and when we say Good Night. My instinct tells me it is him asserting his independence as he is often fussy with people. I just wanted opinion and experience, which I received. Thank you. edited by TTucker on 23/04/2015 So now you teach your child to show affection to strangers (in his eyes that is what this maid is) and in a few years time you will be telling him not to, in order to protect him, as will his schools. I suggest you seriously rethink your parenting on this one. This is a maid not a family member, don't confuse the two nor confuse your child about affection and it's basis. YOU ASK your child to kiss the maid, that is the same as telling him to in his eyes, why? You think the maid cares? Your child is verbalising the word NO to you, why?

I was going to say the same thing. He touched her twice. We don't know the details exactly of how he was acting. 7 Days likes to sensationalize. In general, it is common sense not to touch a police officer, wherever you are. I was on a flight once where a passenger got in trouble for touching a flight attendant in a non-sexual way and that is not even a member of law enforcement! Exactly, no man should touch a woman like that.
