Also Eid is supposed to be from 19 August, if Ramadan is called on Friday how will this be affected? If moon sighting is announced on Thursday night and Friday, 20th July is the 1st of Ramadan then Eid will fall either on 18th of August or 19th of August. If Ramadan is for 29 days and Eid falls on 18th August which is a Saturday then the private sector will miss out on one day of holiday! However, if Ramadan starts on 21st July then the earliest that Eid can be is 19th July - a Sunday. I think this is what louisedvs was referring to It was :-)

OK, so that I understand it all. Say Ramadan is called on Friday night, does that mean that Saturday night will be dry? Also Eid is supposed to be from 19 August, if Ramadan is called on Friday how will this be affected? If it is called on Saturday then Friday will be dry ( i think) i am not bothered about that though

How did you find him? I've heard mixed reports... And I think his waiting list is quite long - although that usually means that he's in demand! Reputation, he was amazing, alot of my friends had theirs done in the UK and the results and care were not that great. He is in huge demand though I was so well looked after from start to finish and would recommend him to anyone It cost me 24,000AED 2 years ago) however believe it is more expensive now. I had the op done at 11am and was home by 4pm the same day, no painkillers and only 2 days off work. My scaring was minimal but boy did they itch! I waited quite a while for the consultation however within 2 weeks i had an appointment for surgery!

Hello, I went to see the London Centre this week for a consulation. I initially thought of doing the 'fat transfer', where fat is removed from thighs/belly and then injected into the breasts... It's meant to be more subtle than implants and I quite liked the thought of a flatter tummy and fuller breasts! ;) But the doctor says that augmentation would be a better fit for me. It's a similar price - 23,000 for injections and 29,000 for augmentation. Has anyone had an augmention with them? I really enjoyed speaking with the doctor - he was very down to earth and not trying to give me the 'hard sell'. I had a look through some other patients before and after photos, but I would really appreciate any advice from someone who has had an augmentation with him. Thanks so much :) Sorry used Dr Khan but wish they had used my fat as i have plenty of that :-)

Why would anyone let you squat in their home for free for a month? And if they were to negotiate some level of rent with you why would they not just rent out at full rental price to someone willing to pay for what they want? What do you mean 'house sitting'? Why would the house need to be minded if the occupants were away and even if it did why by a complete stranger? If your daughters have their heart set on a palm property then perhaps its time to open up the holiday rental sites to find something in your budget. If you don't ask, you don't get hehe

This is with the caveat that it's an outdoor track. Warning OP, I'm getting on my hobby horse! I smoke. I'm considerate- I don't stand next to groups of non smokers and smoke, I don't expect to smoke in other's homes, if I go out with someone who I know hates it I move away. And yet I get treated like some sort of social pariah. [b'>I hate when people drink, but I don't demand they do it elsewhere[/b'>, and there are any number of behaviours I thoroughly dislike, but everyone jumps on me because it's acceptable to tell off a smoker for their bad habit. People glare at me if I smoke on the pavement, my own ****** hen's party wouldn't sit outside so I could smoke- people tell me off for doing it in my own house. Well EXCUSE ME. Rant over :) I kind of understand where you are coming from, everyone has habits annoying to others, and to be honest, I couldn't care less if people smoke, as long as I can't get even a whiff of smoke, inside or outside. The thing is, the fumes from someones drink / perfume / bad deo problem are not going to possibly give you lung cancer... If you choose to take the risk for yourself, that is fine, but I dislike people taking that chance for me - I have enough health problems without someone choosing to add another, thank you! But the fumes from lorries and 4X4's may

He's usually pretty good about being home at a normal time- I'm going to admit it, I was being snippy. Planned a pretty fancy meal and was a bit annoyed. I am also a bit lonely here- there isn't a huge expat population so meeting people is hard. And he was at dinner with a pile of very interesting people from all over the world. It all kind of came together and forced me to re-evaluate. I love to cook and entertain, and am excellent socially and love throwing do's because it really helps with his work and connections. Come to realize that I am not going to have that here, and there is no place for me to do that. I need to figure out where to refocus my energies. Feeling a bit adrift. He gets to go high and meet all these interesting people, and I don't want to become boring and stagnated. Perhaps I was even a little jealous (shh, don't tell anyone!) Sorry ladies, ramble alert :) There is a huge ex pat community here however i can imagine meeting people is difficult

They can wear anything at all. The only change is I always have my toddler in swimmers at the pool or beach, whereas in Australia or the UK I might let her have a nudie session every now & again.. That made me laugh, there was a toddler at our pool the other evening and Dad was trying to get him out of his swimmers into his dry shorts and boy did he have one heck of a wriggly one on his hands. The little one was running round the pool naked and giggling with Dad chasing him. Cheered me up and made me laugh no end

Thanks for the supportive responses. I feel like someone 'understands' how I feel. I suppose Im sad because I really miss her as she was an awesome person and friend prior to getting swept away by Dubai living. I suppose the fact that people can and do change here now explains so much about Dubai, like the aggressive driving, pushing and shoving at the veggie counter and a number of unfriendly encounters which leave me confused and annoyed a lot of the time. If we were a real community perhaps people would behave better? edited by hilsbils on 17/07/2012 We definately need a B@@@h fest. I haven't been here a year yet - I still can't settle into life here so I am really not qualified to say whether things have changed. But I have found it really difficult to make friends (no kids to take on playdates) and have really withdrawn into myself. I come from an armed forces background where forming friendships sounds much like those here - people come and go and you end up putting yourself out there and sometimes have the rug pulled from out underneath you, and the bitc***g on the married quarters patch - well the gossips here would be given a run for their money. Eventually it got really tiresome making friends only for them or us to move on to the next posting and it feels a lot like that here. Don't get me wrong, the few friendlies I have come across here have been great but are already in formed and flourishing relationships that I feel I don't want to gatecrash. I just know you will all say "put yourself out there". I am sorry you feel like that. I am an forces ex Wife and still have excellent friendships with my forces lot. Infact they are my best friends in the world and are scattered all over the place. Dubai is nothing like my forces postings. Yes there were some awful wives etc but all in all i found it a much nicer and easier life than here. I thought that Dubai would be the same due to the ex pat lifestyle but it is nothing like that. Too many wannabees and pretencious stuck up rude people here. Fortunately i have a great group of supportive friends

I don't think it is going to be easy to find it here. Even with a doctor's prescription I was unable to get Premarin. The doctor told me to go to a hospital pharmacy as it is controlled and you will not get it from an ordinary pharmacy. The hospital pharmacies I visited told met they are out of stock and even if they had stock they wouldn't sell it to me even with a prescription, because the doctor didn't have her rooms at the specific hospital. My suggestion is to go and see a gynae at a hospital and get a prescription. HTH I am surprised as you can get a lot of the counter here comparing to my home country. I know! i used to work in a UK pharmacy and couldnt believe it here

Just for your information, pessaries are for feminine use, suppositories are for **** use. So if you go asking in a pharmacy, make it clear which passage you intend to insert it in. As for dryness, I thought that is something to do with hormones and you would need an estrogen cream:\: but I am not there yet, so cannot confirm on this. As for fungal, I would suggest Caneston, it is quite good, or a Diflucan capsule. ETA: **** = back passage edited by CAPTAIN AMERICA !! on 17/07/2012 I think most estrogen creams arent available here :-(

I do love living in the Middle East and all the opportunity it affords us. But it does attract a certain kind of vulgar person and lifestyle that I just want to avoid. Very few people here are down to earth, genuine and know the true meaning of friendship. A lot of ppl are out to make money and scam ppl. Couldnt agree more. Genuine people are a rarity here. Agree. I remember my friend telling me when i arrived here years ago that people reinvent themselves as no-one knows them. I find it all hilarious though.

I miss Ocado and Tesco online lol. I love how things are open late here..even though I'm usually tucked up in bed by 9pm hehe. I do not like the palava of getting a decent Birthday cake, if like me you are challenged in the baking department..all supermarkets in the UK sell decent Birthday cakes at really reasonable prices. Here it causes me no end of aggro and a great deal of ****** driving! Like and agree :-)

This thread brings up some painful memories for me. During the recession I had three separate friends arrive from Ireland who were looking for work and to relocate to Dubai. I was soooo excited as one of them was a very close friend. They moved in (two with no money to pay rent bills for some 4 months) and I opened up my life by introducing them to my friends, moving housemates out, organised interviews, drove, cooked, scanned, printed and basically threw open my life to them. But the minute they all found homes and jobs they dropped out of my life. I kept inviting and calling and it wasnt reciprocated at all. They even invited my Dubai friends (who I had introduced them to) to dinner parties, the beach etc. I found it so hard and am still very upset about it even after these years, because we were really close prior to them moving out and we didnt argue or fall out over anything specific. I never worked out what changed things. Was it me or them who had changed, or was it Dubai? Was there something about being in Dubai that affected them in a bad way, or did they simply "move on" and adapt to a new situation? I still cant help taking it personally of course and wonder if it was me who they found changed. Oh dear, I am rambling around here. But yes, something changed for me at that time and Dubai has never been the same again, and it co-incides with the stuff that went on here with the recession. Lots of colleagues etc who suffered very much and there was an air of fear around the place. edited by hilsbils on 17/07/2012 I had this with an ex whom i had known for 13 years. I learnt a very hard lesson. He was a great person back home but as soon as he arrived here he turned into the Dev*l! Do not take it personally. I have just had my Karma ( it took 2 years) and you will get yours as you sound like a lovely person

I think what has happened is the same as elsewhere: the very rich have gotten even richer (dont know if they are happier for it). Just check how luxury car sales have soared .. However, everyone else is finding it more and more expensive. And for those of us renting, the continued atempt by agents and landlords to increase rents claiming "all is well" is a bit disconcerting as well And as expats, the biggest worry is the lack of stablity, where everything is tied to a job unless you own a business. Yes but if they have to go back to their home country they will be what they were before "nobody's"

Just seems everything lately makes me stress out, I'm always ranting and raving, this just isn't me at all. Could that be the Summer though? Everyone i know is fed up at the moment and it is usual this time of year. I yearn for the UK but know if i do go back i would be equally miserable plus it hasn't stopped raining I do miss Dubai pre 2008 though :-) Heading to UK in 3 weeks, prob be miserable there as well, nothing pleases me at the moment. Grrrrr...... I could give myself a slap. I am off home to UK in 4 weeks and i cannot wait. We all need a dose of normality and constant rain to make us realise how good it can be here!
