I am about to do this, but once I get my licence can I use it anywhere - i.e. if I apply at MMI can I use it at African & Eastern? Also, are the prices shown in the shops without tax, is an additional 30% added on at the till? Thanks. Yes, you can use it anywhere. They are strict about you showing it now and add on the amount you have spent each time to make sure you don't go over your monthly purchase limit. I believe some A&E's are not as punctilious about this as MMI, but I could be wrong. You need to have the card on you even if it is in your husband's name. Yes, tax is 30% over and above the price marked on the shelves :(:( Have you visited RAK at all? Barracuda is an interesting place to stop.. Last month there was vodka, gin, some beers and champagne tax free I do not know if the offers are on in July though

Hi I'm still fairly new to Dubai, so don't really know the prices of things here. I went into a store and picked up a sandal that was on sale. It had a huge written tag with the before and after price. Was 375, now 199. On closer inspection, the pre sale price was still at the bottom of the sandal. It was 220 dhs before the sale. I don't like false advertising, and honestly, for 20dhs reduction, I'd rather just buy something that's from the new collection. This is the reason I ask which stores actually have real sales on. I'm looking for good quality clothes, shoes and handbags that aren't too pricey. Nothing too trendy either. That is why i use sns for everything. Dress in River Island 560AED UK website site and on sale there 180AED... delivery 59AED still cheaper than UAE.

Not sure if I would have a dramatic enough story to tell to warrant going on it. Plus my family would disown me. I mean, my mother has never dated one of my boyfriends, I don't have 3 kids with different fathers by the age of 14 and I'm not a serial shoplifter, so what do I have to offer Jezza and his baying audience?? Haha LMAO!

JK is pure comedy gold. My fave episodes are the ones where they do the paternity / lie detector tests and he comes out with the dramatic envelope!! Also the ones with fisticuffs are good. As are the ones with teenagers who have fathered 10 kids....And his lectures are superb - "Get off my stage" brilliant! It is the same as Jerry Springer though if someone called you and said would you appear on it would you really say yes please. I cringe but secretly love watching it! Guilty pleasure and all that!

I thought that stay at home mums / women were hard at it all day? My fantasy life is not to go out to work and spend my time at the gym / shops / beauty parlour / girly lunch however when I've suggested that as a lifestyle here I get right royally beaten up as everyone says that SAHMs work really hard. Are you saying this isn;t true? I forgot by the way...an afternoon of Jeremy Kyle on the cable TV would be good too!!! Addictive watching, i do catch the odd downloaded epsidode here although i would like to know where they get their guests from!

Are you even allowed to sponsor anyone on that salary? From what I understand, there is a minimum salary before they will allow you sponsor anyone (but I've been wrong before, and hopefully someone can confirm or debunk that point for you). Health/medical are also very important as has been pointed out. These services are not cheap if you're not covered in any way. What about if you have to leave? Who pays for your mother's and child's tickets? You won't be saving anything on that salary taking the medical/transportation/visa fees etc. into consideration - so why come and struggle? I'd suggest waiting and applying for a better paying position AND finding out more on what exactly you can and cannot do in terms of sponsorship etc. I think for a man it is 6k and the deposit isn't cheap for Mum either For a woman i think you need to earn more

Hello! I originally posted on the Multiple Sclerosis thread, but thought my questions might get better exposure on a new thread. In short, earlier this year I was diagnosed with MS. I have no permanent disability and my neurologist is confident I will not suffer a decline in health for many years. I am eager to move to Dubai to work in the investment banking / wealth management industry and before I begin the recruitment process, I would like to know if I need to disclose to potential employers that I have the disease? I have read that the only medical tests required to work in Dubai are blood tests for HIV and Hep B: is this correct? I just don't know whether as part of the recruitment process, a future employer would require me to complete a medical questionnaire? Also, do employers provide medical insurance or are individuals expected to provide their own? I am raring to go, having loved living and working in other countries previously, but for the first time I'm slightly nervous about starting the process and discovering halfway through that the MS is a big red "STOP!" sign! If anyone works in HR or recruitment and is able to give me firm advice, I'd be very grateful. Thanks for reading! Personally speaking the tests above are all we usually require here. I have only ever had a HIV test no Hep B and some medical include a chest x ray. Some ( not all) companies may ask you disclose information pertaining to your health on a personal information form ( some of my ex clients had potential employees fill these out) Health insurance is law in Abu Dhabi however contrary to popular belief it is not in Dubai however most companies provide cover albeit only government not private I do not know if disclosing your condition on a form would go against you. PC laws do not apply in this part of the world and you will see this once you start applying for roles/read advertisements. Good Luck!

Dubliners and Biggles are very publike Lots at Le Meriden however if he is staying there i can understand not wanting to eat there. The Cellar at the Aviation was lovely but it has sadly gone What about the Hyatt near Garhoud Bridge? Some nice places there and not to far in a cab Festival city has the BBC also which is nice and not romantic! edited by louisedvs on 01/07/2012

Is that just a starting salary or is that it? If it's the going rate then I wouldn't want months or years of struggling to make ends meet, especially here in such an unforgiving environment. I agree the costs in Dubai have raised dramatically in the last few years and supporting a parent and child would not be cheap edited by louisedvs on 01/07/2012

I went there last year around June time to visit friends. Personally speaking i found the shops cheaper than Dubai, the traffic and the way they drive appalling ( much worse than Dubai) and the humidity stifling. Everytime i went out i felt as if i was in a sauna. It did rain alot but then the humidity kicked on. We left there and went to Singapore which was equally as humid but a much nicer place

I have often wanted to scrawl something across people's windshields in lip liner for this very reason but I always try to give the benefit of the doubt... unfortunately, often, they're forced to park right up against or even over the line because the idiot on the other side of them has parked so badly that it's the only way and often there simply are no other spots. For me, it's not so much me getting in but when they park right up against my passenger side and it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to lift my 15kg sleeping toddler into her car seat without waking her. THAT is infuriating. I was behind a 4X4 once and someone had obviously gone through the same thing as you had. Someone had stuck a note to the back of their car telling them of their error. I dont think the driver realised it was on the back of the car lol

I remember being at Uptown Spinneys years ago. I went shopping very early in the morning and the carpark was deserted. Coming back to my car ( which was 3 days old i might add) some stupid person had parked so close to me, had her backdoor open resting on my car door. There were hundreds of empty spaces She saw me coming and shut her door pronto however there was a huge scratch down the side of mine and she tried to say she hadnt done it. I asked her why she parked so close when there were hundreds of empty spaces and all i got was a blank look grrrrrr i had to drive away because i was so miffed and didnt want to be responsible for my actions People are so inconsiderate here it is unreal!!!

My hairdresser told me to use tomato ketchup which i thought was a joke however it stripped all the colour out and returned it back to its normal colour. Perhaps if you cannot get to a hairdresser then Google as they may be something in your kitchen cupboards you can use OMW.....wonder what it does to our intestines !:-) Must be the acidity in tomatoes. Great tip tho, thanks The bathroom looked like something out of a slasher movie! ;-0

glad I could give you some info... just found this on the time out dubai web: http://www.timeoutdubai.com/gallery/32756-where-to-watch-euro-2012-final I saw that :) -- Most of the newspapers and magazines have done a feature on venues that are showing Euro 2012 matches. But I was looking for personal recommendations from EW'ers I think most people stayed at home as some of the matches were on very late for a school night :-)

When i first moved here i was out at a well known sports bar in Bur Dubai. I left alone got in a cab and was stopped by 2 CID. They asked me for ID etc and then i left. When i asked the cab driver why they stopped me he said they think you may be a H@@ker. I was dumfounded as i was wearing trousers ( not tight fitting and a long sleeved loose top) I rang my Dad really upset as i was in shock lol I have also been approached in bars here by sleazy men who presumably have thought the same. Once i open my big northern mouth they soon back off! edited by louisedvs on 27/06/2012 I don't think its to do with how you're dressed - some people just have a sick mentality. I was once approached by a well dressed man in a Merc 4wd at the Ibn Parking ... And I was very modestly attired AND I cover my head I know, i am tall, blond and prone to blushing, men stare all the time but i chose to ignore it now. In the UK you get beeped at and wolf whistled by delivery drivers etc so i suppose it is no different here ( I also dress appropriately to avoid bad looks)

They wouldn't have shisha, right? And what kind of food is available? Sorry for the multiple queries but the boys are useless with planning and I need to confirm a venue for tonight's match, at least Food is roast beef sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, not the greatest and expensive

Thanks ladies..this is a relief to hear that VW are reliable as I was concerned about the added costs..Does it depend on which model i go for. I know that my friend has a vw jetta and its a basic car and hence considered a low maintenence car..I dont want a jetta but the sirrocco and hence worried if that makes a difference? anyone have a bmw 1 series and can give me feedback on that? I have a VW R32 ( They don't make them now) and have never had any maintenance apart from touch ups on the paintwork when people have opened car doors on it agh! Alot of my friends have the Golf GTI and never had problems either My first ever car was a VW sof ttop and it ran for years and years and years :-)
