Check out myfitnesspal.com (It's free) I've lost 4kg's in just over 3 weeks without following any kind of diet. Just by being more aware of what I'm eating. I do this too and have lost 3kg so far! ( 3 weeks) Cambridge diet is extreme and the food is awful. I know people that keeled over they were that hungry. Everything in moderation 1200 calories and exercise itll drop off!

getting followed around in shops. The worst is actually the bigger pharmacy's. There is a big one in MOE near C4 and I feel as though the sales staff are descending on me in a group, and I cant browse or move without bumping into someone. They also tend to try and sell me stuff by coming up to say "You have bad pimples/ freckles/ wrinkles (pick one) and you need to try this product. You dont look good now" Not sure who trains them but they dont understand their customers at all. They don't understand that they make sure I will never, never, ever buy anything cosmetic from them. My husband advised me to say something negative about their weight suggesting a gym whenever they tell me how badly in need my skin is for some of their products. I am unfortunately not a nasty person by nature so couldn't get myself to do it. So I just started to laugh. When they wanted to know why I am laughing I just told them they definitely don't want to know. In the end they just turned around and walk away! An in clothing stores I never understand why they rearrange each item I touch, usually with aplomb and fuss, as though Ive somehow dirtied the clothes. Or they say "Nice, is for you" to each thing I touch as though I am 5 years old and have no idea how to shop. I do often stop and ask them to please leave me to shop in peace, or I walk out. edited by hilsbils on 10/06/2012 I do think they are told to do this and with regards to them pouncing on you when you enter, some nationalities expect this. Being from the UK i am used to miserable staff who would do anything not to serve you lol. I hate the, you need this etc etc in the cosmetics shops though

Tail-gating. Can't stand it. In fact I either brake or slow right down until they overtake. Be careful doing that. I have seen them under take and slam on in front of you. Happened to me once and going at 120 thank goodness for my good brakes!

Having chatted to a friend of a friend who lives in Arabian Ranches over the weekend she said that Al Reem is not a good part of the Ranches to be in - does anyone else have an opinion on this? They seem to be the only ones within budget - she said that it is the furthest away from the entrance and due to the road systems it ends up being a long distance and also Al Reem is generally not that great, not sure exactly what she meant by that though! my friend bought a villa there years ago and loves it. I have visited many times and it is nice :-)

Witnessed this earlier this morning. People who park in the disabled parking, who (don't appear to be) aren't disabled (or have a sticker for same) :( I always think it's a bit unlucky - like - be careful what you wish for :( My favourite (loud) remark when I observe someone parking in a disabled parking is: 'Mentally disabled I see'. It is usually not appreciated. I remember being in the UK when this happened. I was with my dear Dad who had had a stroke and walked with 2 walking sticks. A very abled body lady bounded out of her car in gym attire and walked off. I shouted very loudly as we couldnt get a space and in return got a mouthful! thankfully there was a traffic warden present who ticketed her :-)

My biggest pet peeve would be people who push in at a traffic queue :( guess its the same people who push in everywhere, obviously their lives are more important than the ones who have just joined the line I hate this too, they are just sooo important and in a rush. Needless to say they make the traffic worse as it backs everything up.

My only concern about working in UAE is that if you decide to resign before your contract is over, moving onto another job can be hard if they refuse to give you an NOC. There are (sadly) a lot of companies here who still refuse to give NOCs if you leave. Perhaps ask them what their policy is before deciding. If she is under her husbands visa she doesnt need an NOC from her employer if she quits her job and goes to another one.. Check it isnt a limited contract though as i believe they can be different. One of my friends was caught out by this and she was on DH visa

I had always assumed that TA jobs were local hires, I could be wrong. I don't believe it costs your husband anything to sponsor you - it will be in his T&Cs, they have to earn a minimum salary to qualify - but I understand that's quite low (10K a month or something like that). You are right however a labour card is required anf they are not as expensive as a visa

I would also add that you check your contract with me ( If you go gain work) Some schools give a limited contract which means if you leave within a certain period of time you could get a work ban and have to pay them back costs etc

Or go round and have a quiet polite word and explain that the walls are really thin.. My neighbour likes to clean and hoovers at 3am. I tried everything as she used to wake me every single night and didnt understand that what she was doing was disturbing me and the other neighbours. We eventually had to go to the head of our building as she wouldnt listen to our polite pleas.. Sometimes people dont know that they are disturbing people unless you tell them Good Luck there is nothing worse than a noisy neighbour :-)

We've been several times, sometimes with kiddies and sometimes not. When we've been adults only we've always been seated in Carters and when we've been with kids, in the main Blue Orange area, so they may seat you accordingly. I completely agree with Appletiser though! Sup up. Is there a carters in the Westin? I thought that was at Wafi :-) FFx

Hello My husband and i have been invited to a brunch at bubbalicious/westin on Friday. However, as we will be 6 adults with no kids, i'm worried we'll be surrounded by screaming kids as the brunch is recommended as family/child friendly. Anyone been? Is it suitable for mid 30s people w no kids?? Thanks in advance I have been on several occasions and am going the week after next. It is okay for adults :-)

We had a party on Friday at a friends and when the national anthem was played everyone sang, it was so lovely. My family at home attended a street party. I remember being 5 in 1977 at the Silver jubilee we were all given a mug :-) I watched Gary Barlow flying round the Commonwealth to make the song "sing" I I cannot wait to see the concert from last night. To the lady whose friends deleted her.. You are better off without them. Even if they dont agree with what you said, deleting is a bit harsh!

Muu...please don't use agencies that require you to pay them. Most of them are scams. Any decent recruitment agency would NOT charge for this service. but my friend has a job now tho,i was also kind of hesitant when my friend told me about an agency giving a job,but it was his money so i let him decide whatever he wants.i was surprised when he got job. but later on he told me about the 2000aed tho at first i thought it was just 800aed.maybe it depends on the agency you go to. Agencies shouldnt charge any candidate to help find them work. It is both illegal and unethical. The agency bills the clients. I personally wouldnt go near any agency that charges to find you work and who can guarantee they will!

The one that has the newish Brands for Less. It is Mr Ben's and it is a fancy dress shop. Not the cheapest but they have some great outfits and accessories

Hello all, I know this may be a question asked many times..but I I was getting a little desperate..I have tried foundations from many brands but nothing suits my skin..either my face looks too pale and cakey (even when trying before buying) and too dry or too oily.. if you could recommend me any particular range from the above brands as I know they are good for Indian/Pakistani skins (yellow base) I have combination/dehydrated skin so looking for a moisturizing, natural finish (light to medium coverage so can be worn in the day) liquid foundation, without making my skin look too oily.. Can anyone recommend me one that can be worn both in the day and evening and does not look too fake. I tried the mineral powder range as recommended but it ended up looking too matt on me and dehydrated and I generally prefer a liquid foundation. Thank you so much I use the Mac studio one ( it is a new one here not outside the UAE) If have dryish skin and dont like too heavy makeup. I was given a tester of it in the UK and never looked back. I wasnt able to use any other MAC foundation as it was too heavy. Make up forever and Illamasque is good too. I have very red cheeks so this helps cover them without it being caked

I sometimes wonder what all these non seatbelt wearers who do not put their kids in car seats do when they go on vacation to Europe or the USA. Many of them rent cars. I know that in the USA, you can be arrested for not putting your child in a car seat. Just wondering... In British Columbia, Canada, child services will take the child until you purchase a child's seat. Then you have a zillion papers to sign and what not, before you can get the child back. I think in the UK they wont let you take your child out of the maternity unit until they know you have a car seat fitted

Whereas when I was in Munich a few years ago I was impressed by how a pedestrian walker waited at the red signal for pedestrians even though he was waiting at an inner by-lane to cross and there was not a car in sight approaching the traffic lights. The man only went on his way when the green man walking sign lit up. Different approach mentally altogether towards a sense of self safety/discipline and obeying laws of ones country that I think plays a huge factor. From there you come to the fact that in some circles/attitudes: obeying law is seen as a sign of weakness, in other words "i am weak because i have to follow the law and am not important enough to be able to ignore a law". In Germany they have split pavements, half for pedestrians, half for cyclists. If you walk into the cycle lane, collide with a cyclist and they are injured as a result you get into trouble as you should not be walking in the cycle lane. Germany are very strict on the rules of the road etc and the policemen are respected and very scary!

For your budget I would get a villa. It can get crazy if you live in an apartment with kids. Trust me I know as I live in an apartment with two boys! ;) No matter how big our apartment is I sometimes wish we lived in a villa so that I can just send them out into the garden to go mess there instead. Or upstairs, living in a apartment i miss going up to bed. :-)

I've worked in several nurseries in Dubai, your best bet is to either go to your local nurseries - CV in hand, or go onto their websites and find the email address and send your CV that way. Don't bother looking for job vacancies, I never do, I just send my CV over and 80% of the time have gotten a reply for a interview or meeting. Good luck! You took the words right out of my mouth :-)

You are right to be concerned about tax, especially if you are paying for housing and childcare out of post tax income (which is why I mentioned earlier I think you'd need a high salary). for example, if rent is 1000 GBP per month, then childcare is another 750 GBP, bills about 200, etc etc then the salary that you would need before tax starts mounting up. I lived in London and so costs are different...[b'>perhaps look for 100K GBP but that's a finger in the air and I have no clue whether it would be doable or not.[/b'> I think you may be overoptimistic: I found this, first checked sales: http://www.totaljobs.com/salary-checker/average-area-sales-manager-salary-wales-uk Then tried petroleum engineering and got nothing, so just input oil & gas: http://www.totaljobs.com/salary-checker/average-oil-and-gas-salary-wales-uk OTOH, I think rental would probably be cheaper than GBP1,000 per month, probably somewhere between GBP500 and GBP800, depending on whereabouts, of course. Sorry, no idea about child care but do remember friends in London having to pay outrageous sums to carers whilst they were out working - so much so that often it made no sense for them to go back to work. 100k a year? i dont know many people on those sorts of salaries plus wouldn't you be paying 50% tax!

I'm not sure nursery/childcare is free for all UK residents - in that I'm not sure there are sufficient free places for the number of small children requiring care? Schooling is free. Oops i had written schooling is free then realised the child is 2 and didnt edit it!

A few weeks ago, I was in the union co-op car park at the front when a local lady was shouting after me when I parked. I went over a bit concerned to find out what she wanted - and she gave me her parking ticket because she hadn't used most of the time on it! I thought that was a lovely gesture and I've tried to do that with my tickets ever since. In Choitrams today the checkout lady said she hoped I had a good day that was filled with wonderful things. It really brightened my day! I think there are lovely gestures going on in Dubai, but like anywhere, it has its fair share of rude people as well. I try to remember the lovely stuff, and forget the rude stuff because it just isn't worth it. I do the parking ticket all the time however be careful if there is a traffic warden lurking i got shouted at for doing it...

You have to take into account the tax laws in the UK, finding and renting a property. Nursery or childcare for your child ( dependant upon age) and this is free to UK residents There are so many factors to consider. Uk is cheaper than Dubai for certain things like internet, food and clothes/toiletries etc other items are more expensive such as petrol and childcare

OK further to my HSBC rant earlier, it gets better. Finally spoke to the customer services adviser as to why they have not upgraded my credit card as promised after 4 years of custom, apparently it's my fault (of course). I need to fill out a form and write them a security cheque for the full credit limit. Say for example it is 30,000dhs. So they expect me to write a cheque for 30,000dhs in case I default on any CC payment they will cash it! Is this normal? It seems absurd to me and very primitive! Say I don't have 30k in my current account, they want to send me to jail? I have told them I am closing my account. This is the last straw. Lots of the banks do this. I suppose it is because lots of ex pats have and will continue to rack up debt and skip the country... as a result of this we all suffer
