I've been in hospital here a few times in Dubai and cannot praise the standard of care highly enough. I'm 11 weeks pregnant and have already had 4 scans - in the UK I would have had maybe 1, and spent 5 mins with a midwife. You've had 4 scans, not because you need them.........but because the hospital can claim a hefty sum from your insurance company. Hospitals here do x rays, scans etc here as a matter of routine as they generate lots of income are are not always needed. 11 weeks pregnant and already 4 scans I would have worried on the health effects of so many scans so early. Yes health care is good here as it has an unlimited supply of cash, but given an emergency I would prefer the good old NHS any day. Do all pregnant women get this or just those with histories the same as yours...sorry, but i suspect you would get the same treatment in the UK in your circumstances... I was hospitalised last week and left in a hospital bed for 6 and a half hours with no pain relief the nurses had zero bedside manner and they shoved me onto a bad and gave me a remote control for the tv. I was informed after 2 hours that the Dr was in surgery and wouldnt visit me for another 3 hours! . Whilst they were attempting to get me into an ambulance they didnt bolt the stretcher down and when we turned left i went from one end of the ambulance to the other! That was with a back injury. Give me the NHS any day. My treatment was shocking... :-( I think the care in the UK for pregnant ladies depends upon your pregnancy. Why would anyone need to have lots of scans unless something was wrong?. When my Sister was pregnant with her 2nd the midwife collected her, delivered the baby and took her home. Apparently it is some scheme they have in our town. I was told i need physio which i know personally is a scheme for them to claim more money from my insurers. I know the NHS has problems but my 1st ordeal here in the hospital was appalling. I just hope it was the hospital i visited. When i called the insurers to attempt to claim back the fee for calling the Dr out the women on the phone wanted to know why i didnt get myself to the hospital. I advised her that i couldnt sit up let alone walk so she replied why not catch a taxi. I did laugh about it afterwards

The seemed to give more airtime to J-lo and Steven Tyler....... really wish that J-Lo would act her age and not like a hormonal teenager. Apparently this is her last idol.. Her fee was 20 million USD ( so the papers say) Did you see her dancing a few weeks with her new beau... Irony is that his name is Beau Casper Smart. He looks young enough to be her Son! ;-)

His Mum asked him to leave me be however he was adamant he would sit on my knee. It never bothered me one iota and to be honest it was lovely and tugged at my usually none maternal instinct. When we got off the plane he screamed his head off as he wanted to come with me :-) Well let me know if you're planning on traveling to Oz anytime soon! :-) Haha i am not sorry unless you would like to pay the fare ;-)

I've travelled with 2 under 2 on my own and can see why most airlines don't permit it - exhausting . Putting a CARES aviation harness on my eldest was a huge help as he couldn't wriggle out of his seat and he slept in the seat like he does in a carseat . It's not popular with non parents but I nappy change my baby in the seat discretely . I put my almost 2.5 year old in pull -ups because chances are there will be a queue at the loo when he needs to go and by the time I'd have picked up the baby and struggled down the aisle it might be too late . It hasn't happened but imagine trying to clean up a toddlers no2 accident in the tiny loo whilst holding a baby . That is if there isnt any turbulence and you are allowed, it wouldnt bother me if i was sat next to you and you had to change your baby.. I remember being on a flight from Thailand to Dubai and there was a little boy in front of me that played bee boo all the way home. He took a huge shine to me and decided he wanted to sit with me for the duration of the flight. His Mum asked him to leave me be however he was adamant he would sit on my knee. It never bothered me one iota and to be honest it was lovely and tugged at my usually none maternal instinct. When we got off the plane he screamed his head off as he wanted to come with me :-)

Definitely try Ted Morgan, I use to go to Salon Ink and Ted Morgan is far better. I think Sharon is a great hairdresser, I just felt that the hairdressers were changing all the time and the way I saw some people in the salon get treated was shocking. Try Louise or Elaine I have been going to Kelly for over 3 years and Ali for a year. I have never seen anyone badly treated. Can you elaborate on that please? TIA

Oh yes, forgot to mention Singapore zoo. Adults and kids alike will love it. Rained all day while we were there but we threw on the flourescent green rain macs and wandered around. It is incredible - saw white tigers within yards, no real enclosures, so you get really close to the animals. Little train takes you around if you're tired. I want to go back lol! Went last year and loved it!!! We had all the Singaporean school kids taking pics of us having the fish pedicure done at the entrance to the zoo, probably because i am ticklish and couldnt stop laughing. We also went to Sentosa although i didnt like the journey on the cable cars. I would go back tomorrow if i could

I dont think certain British people like people doing well. They seem to resent people who in their minds decide to move away from the UK or earn more money etc. All my friends in the UK tell me not to move back unless absolutely necessary and they said they would jump at the chance of living here. I feel the UK needs to sort it's own back garden out before it slates Dubai.

It is all relative, 26 is a scorcher in the temperate climate of the UK. Plus it feels hotter when you have no AC and the houses are all built to retain heat, bricks, insulation, double glazing, carpets etc. Agree. We have AC so for them it must be very hot.

I had to paint mine before i moved out or pay the building maintenance to do it As it was freshy painted when i moved in it had to be handed back in the same condition. I did check this with RERA who told me it had to be done. My landlord tried to deduct a ridiculous amount for painting and that was the reason for my calling RERA. We settled on a more suitable amount

I am not sure why, I don't think it is jealousy because these people really seem to hate the idea of the place - Dubai does get very bad coverage in the British press and people who have not been here therefore only have that to go on. And to be fair, much of what they say is true (tacky, dodgy development, people flashing the cash) but then because they have never been here they don't get to see the good things too. I am also careful what I post on facebook because I know many people who are having hard times in the UK and probably don't want to be faced with pictures of me drinking champagne at brunch or spending days on the beach - even though these things happen only very occasionally and not every weekend as people at home would believe! But then despite us 'apparently' having such an amazing jet set lifestyle there are many things that they have that we miss out on such as having their families close to them and nice British sensibilities! and sainsburys! Oooh you are posh Tescos for me ;-)

My friend resides in Dubai and has for 9 years. She is in the UK ready to give birth and has had no problems visiting the Dr or the hospital in which she will give birth. She doesnt have her own property and stays at parents when she is home. I do not think they check and it is doubtful they would turn you away.

I'm still gutted about Joshua [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>[img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sad055.gif[/img'>[/url'> I have to go with Phillip because he's differentand I feel like Jessica is a Beyonce clone! Me too i could not believe Joshua went :-( I am sure he will get a record deal and historically alot of the idols who came 3rd/4th etc have excelled! Look at Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert Phillip to win!!!!!

I really dislike these sorts of threads. They always focus on the negatives and people always pull the same phrases out of the bag re Dubai having no soul etc. I feel really sorry for people who have not discovered Dubai's soul, or don't realise it exists. Sometimes it feels like you want to fill UAE up with so much of your home country, that what is the point of living in a different country? You are living in the Middle East, it is [i'>meant [/i'>to be different. And if you want your UK TV, and your own imported food, are you also prepared to have TV & imported food from all the citizens from the other countries who live here too? Enjoy the experience and differences of living in a Middle East country. EXPLORE and find the culture, find the soul, live outside of your comfort zone. You'll be back in your home country before you know it! Like! I lived in Germany as an ex pat and believe me you could hardly get any English foods/toiletries/clothing etc. I adopted the attitude when in Rome and personally think we are spoilt here and catered too very well :-)

Has anyone attended one of the recruitment events? I saw on another post that Pink Slip was recommended but I would like to know whether anyone has actually been offered a job through Pink Slip before I pay 100 aed to attend the event. Thanks for your help. You should never pay any money to attend an event or for recruitment No recruitment company can guarantee a candidate a role as it is down to the client to make that decision. I worked in recruitment for 6 years and attended many fairs. No fee was ever charged to a potential candidate.

Probably impossible but I'd love a full M&S food hall - there is nothing like it here. To be able to buy lovely quality, pre prepared meats which you just have to put in the oven would be great. Also free range chicken at a reasonable price. Oh and Tampax tampons as someone mentioned; why oh why do they not sell them here?! You can get Tampax here. I used to buy them from the pharmacy in Lamcy Plaza I havent purchased any recently as not been in there ( office move)

Hi all We are planning a trip to UK and considering flying either BA or Virgin as they are the most reasonable for our group. Which is the preferred airline? Travelling with 2 kids 4 yr old and a 10 month old. TIA for all your help Both are nice flights. I just felt Virgin had nicer crew. Seats werent as big as Emirates but it was a direct flight and left at 10am so didnt have to be at aiport till 8am :-) I paid for Premium economy for extra leg room however got bumped up to 1st class which was fab!

Stay in drive so that you are ready to move and apply the handbrake.. WHAT!!!!! You can't do this in my car, all sorts of warnings come on! You cannot have the hand/foot brake on if the car is in drive, you're straining transmission, gears, brakes etc. You HAVE to put the car into either park or neutral before applying the hand/foot brake. You cannot in mine either. If i am sat at the traffic lights then i put it in park with the handbrake on, the same if i am in a long line of traffic.

Interesting thread. On the jealous boyfriend thread, there was the general consensus that the boyfriend should not be allowed to dictate to his girlfriend how she should dress, yet some of you ladies believe it is your right to tell a complete stranger how she should or shouldn't dress. Do you not think that is a bit hypocritical? edited by Sprinkler on 14/05/2012 :-)

Louisedvs, there are fines for dangerous driving, tailingating & spitting on the street. Perhaps that should of said not enough given in my opinion. Give me a burnt ex pat in dodgy clothing over a loony on the road any day. If the police are not given the power to fine certain individuals what chance does a security guard have. I feel there are far more pressing matters in the UAE that should be addressed first. :-) .

How about passing out fines for dangerous driving, letting your child be used as a potential airbag in a moving vehicle, tailgating, not queuing, spitting in the street, talking down to people, being rude to certain people etc. I agree that some people dress inappropriately but in this part of the world there are far more serious issues to be policed than lack of clothing My opinion only ;-)

Guess it will be difficult for venues here to broadcast TV, given that it's going to be spread over a four day weekend (Sat-Tues) in the UK? I went crazy buying everything jubilee in Sainsburys I even have a jubilee maxi dress on order from UK ;-0

We were advised by the RTA and AXA that a direct family member is covered providing they have a driving licence from a country that does not make you sit a test here. Mother, Father, Son, Daughter Temp licences were fazed out a while back i know they have said that but unless you have it in writing i wouldnt trust them. it doesnt say anything in their terms and conditions. We did as it was for my heavily pregnant friend whose Father had to drive her to hospital when she went into labor.
