Hi Debs Personally speaking i do not think you will have any problems with your visa Will you get the cancellation stamp in your passport before leaving for your hols? If so, you can come back in and get the regular 30 day stamp With regards to your bank account will your company inform the bank that you are leaving? They usually only freeze if you have loans/c/c etc and dont have enough money in the account to clear the outstanding amount. I would speak to the bank personally ( wise to go in and ask) rather than rely on CS over the phone

Wore a pair from New look for 14 hours straight last weekend. No problems or sore feet :-) I find the more expensive and pretty they are the more they hurt! Completely agreed...most of my office shoes are from New Look and they're super comfortable, especially the wide fit shoes. I struggle to find comfortable shoes, because I have wide feet, but New Look's shoes are great! Having said that, there are some shops that don't suit me at all, such as Aldo, I find the quality really bad and the shoes uncomfortable. Aldo are uncomfortable and RIDICULOUSLY overpriced here! I go in just to moan about the huge difference in price from the UK haha

New Look do a wide fit for some of their shoes and they go up to a UK size 8. Lol in fact the size 8s are always the ones left on the shelf when it comes to the cute designs! Not quite Jimmy Choo, but a big selection of shoes, very reasonable prices, comfortable and you don't feel bad throwing them out when they get tatty! The only problem with shoes from the not so expensive stores, is that they are a torture to walk in. Wore a pair from New look for 14 hours straight last weekend. No problems or sore feet :-) I find the more expensive and pretty they are the more they hurt!

can't help with the parcel but there is an ebluey system I have used lots in years gone by .. you type them on your computer and they get printed out in at the destination, brilliant service. http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceFor/ServiceCommunity/BFPO/Ebluey.htm Thoughts with you and your brother, I have a number of friends out in Afghanistan at the moment ETA I think the BFPO parcels have to go via the UK, oh and also be careful what you put in them, DH wanted some foot spray (for smelly boots!) and the aerosol got returned, got all the way to the Falklands and then back to Mill Hill in London and I had to go and remove it and send it back again! edited by cymraes on 07/05/2012 I remember when my friend was in Iraq and i sent JD in fruit shoot bottles! they got through aswell!

I know it is in Al Quoz and behind pepsi is Al Quoz however not sure of its exact whereabouts. Have you tried Googling it?

Thanks - had heard about Greens. Think similar price to 2 bed villa in Springs. The advantage for me (but not budget lol) is that i would NEED a car which would be fab for me as I really don't want to live without one. I'm not a stay at home person.I will investigate. There is a metro station `15 min walk from the Greens i use it alot and still have a car ;-)

Part time work does exist. There is also a lot of work within schools/nurseries/TA's, admin staff etc. You could even get something at your LO's school to fit in with that. As long as your expectations are not too high wrt salaries. But if you look at it as paying for your monthly shop and a bit of pocket money then it's fine ;) Your DH has accepted the job and you are all ready for your new life, come with an open mind even if you are not 100% sold on the idea. Dubai is a lovely place to live with a young family and there is so much to see and do here even on a budget. There are so many free or low cost things to do. Think of waking up to sunshine every morning and things will seem a little brighter. In a few months time you will be welcoming your first lot of visitors and showing them proudly round "your Dubai" :) The sunshine sounds just what I'm waiting for, sick of being cold here in the UK, while other half is working hard in the Dubai sunshine!!! I'm also needing to find work when I get there at the end of this month, but at least I won't have to find it around school hours. I'm hoping there will be something out there for me, PA, admin, reception, etc type of thing. If you are willing to work FT then there are lots of roles available for the above It is P/T there is less. Most employers prefer FT staff :-) It's going to have to be full time at least for the first year. Would it be cheeky of me to start applying now from here in the UK if I see anything suitable? There are several agencies here and i dont know if this will get removed but here are some to look at... I would write them down quickly Kershaw Leonard BAC M.E Gulf talent website To be honest most agencies wont consider your CV till you are in the country however it is good to get them out there The Greens is next to the Springs and their apartments are low level Each one has its own pool and we have Costa, Nandos, Berts Cafe, Book shop, Pharmacy, supermarket, KFC, Nail salon Dry cleaners, Hair salon, ice cream and cupcake shop within walking distance Excellent place for you to run ( lakes at the back) it is all finished no construction etc and the springs is around the corner :-)

New Look is good and they have larger sizes I have large feet and have a couple of pairs of JC however CL's were all too small Primark in the UK is ideal for big feet! I dont understand why shops here don't go up to a size 8 as not everyone in this region has tiny feet or is a size 6! River Island, Next, Mango go up to an 8 too. It is a case of shopping around and as one poster advised these are always the sizes left on the racks as 5's tend to be popular Just stay away from Pretty Fit. I asked for a 7 or 8 and she brought me a 5 and said try these madam.. I said bring me a saw so i can chop my toes off then they would fit. Needless to say she didnt understand my sarcasm! :--)

You can get those Scotch brits (i hate autocorrect, B R I T E) things in ace too, sometimes CF. If he does want you to repaint, would it be that obvious if you just touched up like another poster suggested? Could they really tell? If there were no more marks or holes, how would they know? (Or is that a bad idea?) edited by sobevan on 07/05/2012 I did touch up but they still wanted it painting :-(

I was never charged for painting until 2009 My LL said because it was freshly painted when i moved in it had to be done when i left. He tried to deduct a ridiculous amount for 2 rooms so i called the RERA guys who agreed with me. I advised that the LL that i had spoken with RERA and he and i came to an agreement on a better price. I was told that they can charge for the painting. Thank goodness my new apartment is wallpapered!!!

We are staying in the Dubai Marina area. Thanks for all your information. We will be there Thursday and Friday nights. So I will plan dinner close by that won't involve a taxi. I will be going to Dubai Mall on Wednesday and then DH and I will be going to Mall of Emirates Tuesday night. I would rather use taxis than the metro this week. Time is of the essence with so much to see and do. If the queues are huge just walk out onto the street and flag one down.

Don't really understand what's wrong with a bike going ahead of you? So you move off at the lights, what, 2 or 3 seconds later than you would have? And that's so terrible that you'd want to ram the guy off his bike? I think you all need to chill out a bit. I am not bothered at them being ahead it is when they weave around you dangerously i object to. Some of them are dangerous. I would hate to hit anyone on a bike. I have seen too many fatal crashes in the UK involving bikes and here they dont wear protective clothing so it would be game over

I watched Homeland this week (on dvd) and had to watch it in pretty much ones sitting- very addictive storyline and interesting characters. Just wondering if it was ever shown on tv here, as I think Season 2 comes out later this year and I want to know if I'll need to wait for it to come on dvd. Due to some of the subject matter (suicide bombers, terrorism, US interests in the ME) I thought maybe it would be a touchy subject and perhaps heavily edited. But- I found it to be an interesting perspective on the 'other side' of terrorism- given that it deals with a US citizen potentially being 'turned' and becoming a terrorist due to things seen and his view on the US involvement overseas. It really makes the point that these things are not so 'black and white'.... Sorry if I'm not meant to ask about this, but I did think it was new to see a show portraying the 'bad guy' as a) symapthetic in that you can understand why it might happen that way and b) not of middle eastern origin like the sterotypes might suggest people think of a 'terrorist' Anyone else here watched it? I have just started on Season 1 however i download it so dont have to wait for the DVD's if you want to know how i can advise :-)

Hi, Looking to move to The Greens in early July. Am on the lookout for a 2bed with study or a 3bed. Any recommendations /advise will be great. Are Hamptons and BetterHomes the only property gurus for that area or are they any other rental agencies ?? Have a daughter (5years ) so looking for a good family home!!! Any suggestions on the Mosela/Tanaro apartments ??? They look lovely from the outside though!! Thanx and cheers I am in Turia and found mine through Dubizzle I love living here! It is so peaceful and people are friendly Perhaps Google apartments for rent in the Greens. Something may come up. When i was looking for mine i didnt see many on Better Homes and i hate paying an estate agent money to do nothing! Good Luck

I have been following a 1500 calories a day diet with no exercise and in one week have lost 2kg I have the my fitness pal app on my phone and calculate all the foods there I hate diets and dont think they work in the long term. I needed to change my eating habits and dont think there is a quick fix at all I am pretty active but abhor the gym and get bored easily. I dont have alot to lose maybe only a stone however doing 1500 a day seems to be working. Good luck!

Chizz do you live in the same block as me? With my lady next door it's the clacking of heels until 3am, 4am, 5am and the banging of the patio door and screen ( Has her microwave on the balcony) I have tried everything from speaking to her politely, complaining to security and all i get is "it is my home i shall do as i wish" My neighbour does not work, sleeps during the day and all her family come round from 12am so i have to listen to them shouting over one another. I have literally sat in my bed and cried as it is every other night. She has been relatively quiet of late so i am hoping that someone from a higher authority has spoken with her. This lady does her cleaning at 3am.. No word of a lie.. I have tried earplugs but i sleep through my alarm. I want my old neighbours back as they were fab! Good Luck to you :-)

now back in UK I overheard some woman talking at a party the other day how she used to live in Dubai...in Emirates Hills apparently. I caught up with her later and asked which part of EH she lived in...not realising I knew Dubai she replied "it's an area known as the Springs"...LOL....I noticed she'd swapped her pajero for a ford fiesta as well! wow, that's some coincidence !!! what's wrong with the Springs ? Gonna break my heart to leave my Pajero here :( and go back to my Peugeot) and have some stranger at a party take the mick out of me for it.. lol... Sue if i leave, my car would be the first to go as i couldn't afford to fill the tank.. I will be back to my Corsa :-)

it's too late now I know but a big factor is not to over indulge whilst pregant...this "eating for two" nonsense is a myth...all these ladies that miraculously "bounce back", it has nothing to do with luck, it's to do with not being overweight before getting pregnant, not overeating during pregnancy and then there's no reason why you should put fat on. Once the baby fluids have gone from your belly it should be back to normal. And the stars who have a Mummy tuck after their caesarians!

Do people still use good old buttercream icing on their cakes or is it just fondant everywhere now? Every kiddie birthday party I go to theres another fondant layered cake and I really find the taste of fondant revolting. So what is better for you,a goodlooking cake (fondant) or a tasty one (buttercream)? Im trying to figure out if I should give in to the fondant craze in Dubai for my LO's cake. TIA. I make my cupcakes with buttercream although most cakes i have eaten here ( birthday's, weddings etc) are made of fondant :-)

You could go to Barcelona or Valencia.. both have a beach and amazing nightlife. Or one of the Greek islands. I am liking Greece, havent been for many years and need to know the areas to avoid i.e Malia! I have only been to Mykonos - party island! I think there are direct flights to couple of islands now, however, you could also fly into Athens, do the sightseeing bit (the city is deserted in August) and take a ferry the next day to whichever island you want. It's really easy. Thank you :-)

Once applied for a professional office job- and was invited for an interview- and asked to bring my gym clothes for the interview (yes, for an office job!). Venue of the said interview- Jumeirah Beach: Time- 7:30pm. I am sure they did not like the e-mail they got in response. WTH! some people are really jokers and only there to torment jobseekers. you find others writting you must must of this height and weight or must be sexy looking, what has height, weightand being sexy got to do with admin work? its really **** to geta job in dubai Not all recruiters work this way. Unfortunately in this part of the world PC does not apply. Clients can ask for whatever they want although sexy etc is wrong
