We are coming for our Look See visit to Dubai next week - I can't wait. During the few days we are there DH's company want me to price how much it would cost to buy furniture for an apartment. Is there a shopping center or location where you get lots of furniture shops close together? Just so it is easier to get a feel for prices of a variety of furniture. Thanks for your help:) Dubai Mall Mall of Emirates and Pan Emirates is close by Ikea is part of Festival City :-)

JVT is a little of the beaten track. I am not aware that they have a park or shops close by. Other posters may be able to advise better. Taxis are very cheap here though :-)

If a "recruiter" asks you to email them or emails you from a gmail/hotmail/etc. account, then for sure it cannot be genuine or anything you'd want to be involved in....A real recruiter should contact you from a company email address. Agree

You could try Daiso. They tend to sell obscure items! I was going to recommend Daiso

My dh has lost a lot of weight and we want to donate his old suits, still in good condition, but where is the most appropriate place? Any recommendations please You could put them in one of those donation drop boxes. They are all over the place in Dubai nowadays. Most Emaar properties have them around, big yellow bins :-)

Alternatively you can also look at the apartments near Deira City Center, it's close to school, hubby's work and most importantly close to metro-your getaway to most of Dubai Didnt the OP say her Husbands office is near JAFZA?. That is nowhere near DCC, i hope i read the thread correctly

I love my GHD and can't live without it. I have very thick, very very curly, long hair and GHD is the only one that does the job. I've tried Cloud Nine but didn't love it enough to switch from my GHD. I just wish they'd been invented three decades earlier - I'm sure my photos from the 80's and 90's would be far less cringe worthy ! I used to perm my hair in the late 80's :-)

Swore by GHD's then tried Cloud NIne and am a convert :-) They are amazing, arent they. I never thought anything could make my hair shinier and smoother than GHD. Also love the fact that its minus the burn factor from GHD. I usually set it to 100 and get the same/better effect than GHD gives at its hottest. I have very fine long hair so alot of straighteners dont straighten it properly. These are fab! I also have the wand and the rollers haha :-)

I have a wonderful British lady who come's to my apartment for 250aed and does the most amazing spray tan ever. Abra - 055 158 4141. My tan looks natural and she does a wonderful job. Cannot recommend her highly enough. :) 250! does she spray you in gold ;-0 That's pretty reasonable, I was charging that 10 yrs ago!! A tip....after having it done don't do any sweaty exercise for 24 hrs or else as soon as you start sweating it will run and don't shower for 24 hrs!!! Dubai is expensive spray tan back home will set you back 120AED at the most and that is for St Tropez or FakeBake, i only pay 180 for mine here. 250AED is a rip off IMO :-)-

Depends on the company. I have some clients who pay a total monthly package inclusive of transport, HRA then others who pay for schooling etc. I have some clients who hire from abroad who give a month in company accomodation, pay flights and excess baggage only for one person not spouse or children etc If the salary is broken down as most companies do now it means the gratuity will be paid on basic salary only

I think Morcheeba is first, then Travis, then Dizzee then Fatboy Slim If you go onto their FB page they usually announce the timings just before I didnt get a cab last time, i got on the bus and they were going to JLT, The Greens, The Marina etc. The only bug bears i had was toilet queues were horrendous, bar staff not trained and VERY slow I kept tripping over beach towels, Shisha coals and flipflops that had been lost or dumped in the sand from the day I would get there around 4pm though as we left at 5pm and it took an hour in a cab just on the trunk of the palm, it was gridlocked It was enjoyable and after the toilet/bar fiasco at the Snow Patrol one i believe they sorted their act out for the April one ENJOY!

HI Leah TBH i would look on EW website. It is very rare that you will find a part time role in Logistics/Events I used to work in recruitment ( 6 years) and did 2 part time in all of that time Most roles are full time unfortunately and job sharing does not exist here Good Luck!

There are lots to chose from and different DR's use different makes of botox I have been to Dr Khan, Dr Tahir and many of the cobone offers, I dont have a reaction to it and dont look like a wax dummy thank goodness. It all depends on how you react to it. I would due some research and ask questions if it is your first time. Some Dr's are more expensive however i had surgery with Dr Khan so i trust him therefore i pay slightly more to go to him :-)

Alot of them think it will neve happen to them or their children.... It is lack of education pure and simple. They shouldnt be allowed to raise children if they cannot even restrain them in a car. It makes my blood boil how they can do this and not care. I have said something to a driver in the past and was told to shut up and mind my own business... It is my business as i am a driver on the road too. They will be the 1st to cry foul if an accident occurs and will no doubt blame someone else.

I used to go to one close to the York Hotel The stuff was either very old or fake as i compare it to the perfume i bought from Debenhams in the UK and it wasnt as nearly as strong as the UK perfume. The packaging was the same but the smell wore off so quickly and i couldnt understand how they could sell it so cheaply. I know Dubai marks up stuff but this was cheaper than the UK??? I wait till i go home and buy the real stuff

I am a single mum with a 5 year old here in Dubai. I don't receive any benefits from my company and have to pay schooling, housing, car loan etc etc. I have a salary of about 18 to 20,000 AED and I manage just fine. I cant always go to all the expensive events my friends go to and I don't get out an awful lot but if you compare it to a life in the Uk or Europe I think you will definately be better off. It's for sure do-able. I also managed to sponsor my child fine through Dubai. Abu Dhabi are MUCH stricter and I was rejected there 3 times as a single mum, but Dubai put it through as a humanitarian case and it was through within 2 weeks (no letters from the father or anything, just a letter from the British embassy stating that I am a single mum, and attestation of her birth certificate). The hardest might be paying your rent upfront as you have to pay a full year here in some cases but lots do accept 4 or 6 cheques although they may up the rent if you pay over more than 1 chq, but if you have a company that are willing to help it makes it much easier. You can then pay them back monthly. I hope this helps but feel free to get in touch if you want any more info. Good luck!! Dont forget Abu Dhabi housing is far more expensive than Dubai and is less supply ( I hope i got that right)

I had heard from the legal team in the company that I work for that they were struggling to find a well enough qualified Legal PA/EA. Even all the PA/EAs receive benefits such as housing, bills, schooling etc. which would take many of your costs away and make it more feasible. I can't promise they are still looking but I can ask, and direct you to the consultant they are using. However, this is a government entity in AD, and the visas seem to be a little stricter from here so you might find it more difficult for sponsorship if you weren't married when your little one was born/father not on birth certificate etc. I have a friend who is a single mum here and manages just fine, she is Syrian so her standards for comparison might be very different to you and her little one doesn't go to a British school (which are a big expense). Abu Dhabi is more likely than Dubai to pay Housing and Schooling etc for ex patriate postings.. :-) Good luck!

I think they are grooming Skylar to win the competition as they never say anything bad about her but are quite nitpicky with the other contestants. Her singing has been flawless though... Even when she sings non country songs.

LOVE Elise, and Philip. The 2 young girls are growing on me now that their 'tutoring' is paying off and showing. Joshua is a gospel dude...awesome at it, but not my thing and skyla just looks to me to have a VERY good PR team. Even when she aint country, she has the boots on to remind y'all. (thats one huge voting base) Really like the dude, Coltan, was it? (sp?) who went last week, though he did have a nothing week song wise. Elise singing that Robert Plant song?> whoah...rocked the world, very cool. But if Philip keeps on with that eye contact thing? I will have to go off him on principle. and I blame all this Idol thing on hubby...he is totally addicted and inflicting it on us all! I watched last nights online and OMG one person who shall remain nameless got 2 standing ovations... Country, Rock, R N B and gospel music dominate in the US. so it could go to the wire... :-).

I used to work in recruitment and to be honest when we called candidates who had gaps in their resume we just infomed the client of the situation. In my opinion 5 years is a long time to be out of the workforce here especially when they are so many people looking for work I would be honest. I can imagine raising a child is far harder than being in employment. What did you work as before the children? :-)

She is the usual Mariah, Beyonce wannabe I HATE all that screeching stuff Phillip is so diverse and unusual, he can play an instrument and is unique I love country and western and Skylar has an amazing voice I cannot see Jessica becoming big at all. There are too many singers like her who are far more talented. There isnt amything unique about her at all :-)
