I don't have an "accent" and as such I just love accents. First I fell for a welshman, then a scot (who were both pr!cks) then an Aussie guy who looked and sounded the part but when it came down to it was pretty useless at everything else. Just looooove a man with an Irish accent. Makes me go weak at the knees. Northern or Southern Irish ;)

I don't think 'Entourage' has been mentioned. I highly recommend this for an easy watching slice of hilarity. It's kind of S*x in the City meets a group of male Hollywood wannabes. Both OH and I loved it. 'Pulling' is a good Brit series too. Quite naughty and gritty, but again, hilarious (I think so anyway). 'Mistresses' is sort of a British S*x in the City, but more serious. A good few years old, but still great to watch. I have seen Entourage and Mistresses. Will try Pulling tho haha thanks

Being only 1 he won't care where he is as long as he is fed, warm and with you. Remember, you gave birth to him so you should celebrate too! When DS turned 1 we went to Brunch with some friends and had a lovely time. Lots of photos....even one of his milk bottle chilling next to the champagne in the ice bucket :D That made me smile :-)

If you like food at Ravi's, try the buffet at Barbecue Delights in JBR - around 60 - 70 AeD/person with nonalcoholic beverages. Food is great, but going to be very crowded. call ahead to reserve. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=65954 Is there anywhere that's like this (Ravi's, Karachi Darbar, BBQ Delights etc) that serves alcohol? Ravi's i cannot think of anywhere like this that serves alcohol. Magic teapot no longer exists :-(

how about taking them all down to Ravis in Satwa - see a bit more of Dubai than a hotel lobby and even if you treat them all it wont break the bank. My fave placed when visitors are here, great food! My vistors find satwa amazing and exotic ....... which kinda bemuses me a bit ;) I get fed up with all the glitzy places here. Ravi's reminds me of the restaurants back home.

just drive from terminal 1 or 3 towards Mirdif till exit to Emirates road (que - that would be right after 2nd signal or Rashidiya metro station). Take exit to Em.road heading to Jebel Ali/Abu Dhabi and just drive straight passing International City, DSO, Global Village (all of those will be on your left side). Drive till you see the exit/interchange for Arabian Ranches :) Is Mirdif sign posted out of the airport though The OP said they have never driven here before Do the signs say Al Khawajnee first? :-) Yes there are no Mirdiff signs out of the airport it's Al Kawaneej and Rashidiya I think. You wouldnt think i lived in mirdif for a year lol. I just know how to get to places now i never pay attention to exits or signs anymore. When they added the north and south to the SZR i was flummoxed and it threw me for days haha

I went to Benihana last Wednesday evening at the Amwaj Rotana. Setting with beautiful and the service was superb. They even catered for my friend who was vegan. We had sushi and other japanese food, plus drinks and it was 295 all in :-) Watch out if you ever have an issue there - they like to sue people! What do you mean? we didnt have any issues it was the best service i have had in 6 years here. :-) The blogger in Bahrain dared to write an 'honest' account of his less than satisfactory experience oftheir outlet over there and they've dragged him through the courts and tried to sue him for thousands. I see red everytime I see their name now. Talk about not being able to take constructive criticism from a 'customer'. edited by Chocs01 on 06/03/2012 I didnt read that. Interesting. Well i can honestly say my meal, service etc was fantastic so perhaps they learnt from that :-)

It may be an idea to approach a taxi driver at the airport and ask can they follow them and will pay. It may be costly and they will need to ask him not to drive like a loon. I used to do this in the UK in areas that i wasnt familar with however it may go perfectly or horribly wrong here as trying to follow someone isnt easy at all! Driving in Dubai the first time is nerve wracking to say the least!

The only way i have come is to go onto sheik zayed road and come off at umm suqeim road before MOE and just go straight straight straight. U cant miss the Ranches that way. I know you can come on Emirates road but i cant think of the way to get there from the airport. I am sure people will post with easier directions. Have they driven here before? the road layout and signs are very confusing if you are new. :-)

My understanding is that you cannot do this anymore. Apparently the guest were getting fed up with visitors mooching around the place. When i last went we had a booking for afternoon tea and had a nose round before we got there They stop you at the barrier on the way in and ask for proof of visit

I have just joined my husband in Dubai and have been told I cant even be put on his exsisting account to make it joint. BUT..... they did mention something about power of attorney which is done through the bank. We havent got that far yet so cant advise the ins and outs but sounds like something you may need? Worth an ask x When i worked in the banking industry many years ago we had to do this by law. If the Spouse was a joint account holder then we could give details, if just had a bank card etc we couldn't give out information. I was screamed at on several occaisions as i wasnt able to disclose confidential information as we had no proof of who that person was. Most Husbands wrote a letter of authority and being an ex military wife i was given POA incase anything happened in his abscence/ It is definately worth going into the bank and asking about this. I am sure they will have something in place for these sorts of things .

I can't stand it anymore.... I am a nobody because I am not the primary account holder so I can never verify the account myself- even when I am a JOINT account holder. So when my husband is out of town I am screwed if I were to ever have a problem. The last time I tried my phone banking pin they told me it was incorrect - so I ask for a new one. When I put in my new pin, (which is the one I actually thought it was), they tell me it already exists. So I go back and use the existing one and they tell me it is in correct. My husband has a taxi waiting outside to go to the airport, needs his new card to be activated, but we can't because the pin which is actually correct is not correct, but it is.... so then they need to verify with my husband, instead of using the telephone pin number, and ask him to call back. He is standing right next to me, we used HIS phone deliberately, but NO, he has to CALL BACK from the same phone... If anyone out there can explain to me the logic is anything to do with phone banking here I would greatly appreciate it. I am soooooooo frustrated with them - every time I call it takes at least 20 minutes to verify - and then they still can't help you!!! I JUST SCREAMED AT THEM !!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! I need a boxing bag...poor maid has discreetly disappeared upstairs.... Is there any way your Husband can write a letter of authority stating that the bank can discuss matters with you in his abscence We used to have the same problem in the UK and a letter of authority sorted this out

Haven't applied for visa or had any medicals ect yet, I've only just accepted the terms and conditions and offer of appointment. I wouldn't be out til august but yeah, the other job I'm interested in is in Dubai too. The t&c's state that you have to work 3 months notice and there is a buy out clause but I assumed that would only be enforced if the employment had commenced? No visa no problem you are not obliged to take up the other role Without your passport and medical being done no labor card or visa will of been issued

Have they applied for your visa? If not, you can decline the 1st offer and take up the 2nd interview It can only get a bit tricky if they have labor aprroval and you have had your blood test for the visa

No I get that but I thought since the first bus leaves at 9.30 then likely that SP will have done by then... do these things normally getpacked? never been and not planning to go for 12hrs from 2 til 2!!! I know taxi will be ridiculous, do you have to book the bus or just turn up and wait for the one you want to take? I pretty much just want to get anywhere near a red line Metro station (unless that will be ridiculously crowded too!) I'd guess I'll go home at 11pm-ish... Buses will leave when they are fullish just turn up. I do think it will be very busy and i only want to see M People and Snow Patrol then will head off too Bus services from events here are usually pretty well organised

The buses start at 9,30pm to take people home and will shuttle back and forth until the end Not everyone will stay for all the concerts. SP is the only band that the Sandance website have written a time for on their FB page that is why i wrote 8.30pm. I heard M People start at 4.30pm but this wasnt by Sandance. I am giving information out purely for people who are attending :-)

Perhaps the OP meant that it would be nice to be able to read what she was given before she signed it. I think most people here would prefer to be able to read it in their own language before signing any documents that were not in their own language I know this isnt practical or may never happen . if that's such an issue for you then maybe you should avoid travelling to countries where English isn't the first language...in all the foreign holidays we've had over the years to places like Greece or Spain we never expected anything to be written in English - if it was it was a bonus !! Part of the holiday fun was buying a phrase book and trying out the lingo... Where did i say it was an issue for me?

What type of place are you looking for? Frankie's has live music (piano and singer) at the weekend and this may include Thursday so it may be worth giving them a call to check. Also somewhere not quite so fancy is Nell Gwynn's at the Byblos Hotel - they have a band on, I think they are there every night but that is a very different kind of atmosphere and is pub food, it does get busy though, not sure whether you can book a table or just have to turn up and take your chances. Also Barasti usually has a band playing but again that isn't exactly a fine dining experience so it depends on what sort of place you are after. I am sure there are other places too but off the top of my head those are the ones I can think of. Isnt there one in Al Fattan Tower Trader Vics, they have a calypso band on however i dont think they have a dance licence

There are many in the BUr Dubai area and several in Oud Metha are near Lamcy too. Every other shop seems to be a typing shop or tailors. :-)
