where are they located? On the same street as Collegiate American School. Coming on Al Wasl rd towards MOE, once you pass Al Manara Rd, take a right turn on Street 27C, then left on Street 34 at the T junction. They're located in the last villa on the right side just before the T junction with Street 41B (which also connects directly with Al Wasl, in case you miss the right hand turn on St 27C). Park in the gravelly sand lot. I now attend a class Sunday mid morning, but I wish I had the time to also attend their Tues and Thurs all-morning lectures, they are fun. Hi apricot. The streets now have names so street 27 is Al Qubba and street 34 is Maydar. 41 is Sama'a .

I love Al Huda Sisters. The classes are fantastic and in English which is a big plus for me. I attend 3 times a week for their Quran classes. They also offer Arabic classes. The teacher is great and very sweet. The girls there are all very friendly and welcoming. You probably didn't get a respond because they were on break. Classes resume today. You can go in, there's a reception to the right once you walk into the property. The lady there can get you started, how to sign up, the schedule, etc.

We looooove living here. I'm in the same area near Starbucks. We have everything literally walking distance. Safa Park across the road, Union/Choitrams right around the corner. Spinneys and Park n Shop down the road. Easy access to SZR. We're literally smack in the middle of everything. I love driving down to Satwa, Naïf Souk. The beach is a couple of minutes away. Loads of restaurants to choose from on JBRoad. We usually walk across Wasl Road to Pantry Cafe, Tim Hortons etc.

Thanks everyone. One thing I noticed was the more stitch functions the machine has, the more expensive it is. I wonder if I'll need all of that. Can someone tell me where exactly the store is in Satwa? I was there last week and went into a few stores after the mobile phones but they only had Singers. I think one quote for a Singer was more expensive than in C4. edited by LuLee on 21/11/2013

Hi I'd like to purchase a sewing machine. I hear good brands are Singer, Brother and Janome. I've been to Lulu and C4 but could not find Janome. Are they available here? I'd like to do a comparison with models and prices. I'd like to learn to make dresses, skirts, clothes and simple costumes for my kids so would a basic machine be enough for my needs? My budget is 700 dirhams. If you have a machine you love, can you please tell me which brand and model you have? Hi LuLee, Hope you don't mind me asking where are you learning to make dresses etc? I too, would love to learn the basics. Thanks. I'm still looking into it. I know Craftland offer classes but it doesn't look like they have evening classes. I'm trying to open the DIAC website but somehow I'm getting an Error msg.

LuLee, it depends on who you see and what you have done. My UK quote was 5k GBP for the pre-surgical ortho work and 8k GBP for bimax, that's upper and lower jaw surgery. Bimax in the UK I think is usually about 7k-10k. One jaw (e.g. BSSO only) would be 5-8k (plus ortho) In the US, it would be more, in the $20-40k range. Some of the top surgeons (e.g Arnett and Gunson) charge 50-100k Here in Dubai, I expect it would be about the same as the UK - but you might be able to have the ortho work done more cheaply as orthos here don't seem too expensive. I'm having mine via the public hospital so it's cheaper, but I haven't had a quote yet. It's not such a pleasant 'patient experience' but to me, a good surgeon is more important than a nice clinic. Unfortunately I think the Prof Mommaerts might have gone back to Europe already but you can consult with him next time he's over. Consult with at least 3 surgeons. Luckily I don't need bimax, I just need a BSSO and a genioplasty. I have braces on and see N&A college. They advised me to consult with Dr Khaled Ghandour. He's either at City Hospital or Rashid. The resident did tell me I might need a double jaw surgery but will have to consult with surgeon and they (including my orthodontist) will come up with my treatment plan. I'll go see Prof Mommaerts as well. Thank you

Deeva - My daughter is about to embark on the full proceddure N&A college. She is turning 10 and has severe overbite. She needs 4 teeth out, headgear and bottom teeth and top teeth braces! Breaks my heart. How did your kids cope??? x edited by njh01 on 14/11/2013 njh - please, please, please do not go through with this plan! Teeth removals are bad for the gums and bones. Orthodontists don't want to admit that they can't treat a patient. For overbites as severe as what you describe, the best course of treatment is actually a surgery called BSSO. Sounds scary but it's actually quite routine these days and if she doesn't get it done as a teen then the likelyhood of her needing to go through it as an adult is significant. One of the best surgeons in Europe (prof Maurice Mommaerts) comes to Dubai to Al Baraha hospital, plus there are many other surgeons here. Please for your daughters sake, consult a max-fac surgeon - I really wish my parents had. I have to have braces to undo all the work I had done as a teen, followed by surgery I should have had done 10 years ago I'm considering orthognathic surgery. Can you please tell me what the cost is for this type of surgery? edited by LuLee on 14/11/2013

Hey maroosh, I am driving and I live in the palm so can you give me directions please? Many thanks I only know how to get there by metro sorry! I don't drive... Maybe the other ladies know? For directions to the naif souq abaya mall, which is the most reasonable place around town to get abayas, if you type in Al Manal Centre in maps.google.com it is the mall right across the street from it. I always park in the Manal Center parking garage, I believe it's 5 aed per hour. It's also next to Al Ghurair mosque, which you can see on the map. The souk itself has parking underneath.

I buy all my abayas from Ajman very good quality and I spend less than 300 dirhams. If that's too far, than I'd suggest you check the new building in Naïf Souk. It's near the police station. Abayas range no more than 200. Remember to bargain.

I ended up going to Beauty Plus and I am SO HAPPY with my results. I could kiss them, seriously. It took around seven hours, although I would have gladly sat in that chair all day if I had to. The poor girl had back pain by the time she was done. I waited three days, washed it, and [i'>bam[/i'>. Perfection. It's seriously almost too good to be true. My hair is smooth, shiny and straight, whereas before it was totally dry and afro-ish. I've tried a couple other salons here and they failed miserably. It's been said already, but I want to reiterate: don't be put off by the salon's appearance. It's very small and quaint but all the high-end and decadent salons I've been to have, to put it bluntly, sucked. It goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. Language barrier aside, the ladies are very nice and one has an excellent singing voice. I'm so, so, so, so, so happy! I'm definitely going to come back once my roots grow out. Thank you to everybody who recommended it. Can you tell me how much you paid for the keratin treatment? What's the length of your hair?

I just survived a 14 hour flight with my 5, 3 and 1 yr old alone. The departure flight we got the bulkhead seats. I put my youngest in the bassinet and my other two on the floor. They slept through most of it. But coming back I did not get them. I got somewhere in the center. Even though the arm rests go up, only one child could sleep okay. It was a horrible flight. I will never do it again until they are much older.

Do they offer keratin treatments? I got a quote at Pastels in JBR for 3000 dirhams. My hair is long, thick, frizzy curly, you name it I got it. I just can't afford that. I'm not sure if I want to rebond my hair. Does it damage the hair? Is it permanent? How often do you go for retouching?

your best bet is the one where I go in Diera as its right outside the metro station. Its slightly cheaper and you get more for your money. the bunches of salad and herbs are a lot bigger. Now the fruit and veggie market in diera is next to the fish market so if the smell of fish puts you off I would avoid it .. If you pick up fish you cant take it on the metro im afraid ( thats what ive been told ! ) - might be wrong ! Yes that's true and you can't take fish on a bus.

My husband and I are doing this trip in June isA. We're starting in Vegas (walk along the strip, see a show), then drive to the Grand Canyon and stay overnight. Drive back to Vegas and stay overnight. Fly to LA, from what I'm reading they say the city is so over-rated. We're thinking of staying in West Hollywood for just one night. Is there anything not to miss here? We're going to skip Santa Monica/Malibu and drive to Santa Barbara on the way to SF. We also plan to stop in Cambria and Carmel/Monterey for the night. I can't wait to drive along the coast. I'm just worried it'll be foggy and we won't see much of the beautiful view.

We start off in San Francisco (1 day of site-seeing), drive down the coast to Los Angeles (1.5-2days).I'd like to know if 1.5 days of driving enough? Hi LuLee, we just got back from SF with the kids. We had to visit family in the Monterey area from our base in Silicon Valley and our day was completely ruined by taking the scenic route, Hwy 1, there and back. What could have been a 1.5 hr trip each way became a torturous 3 hrs. My advice is to take Hwy 101 from SF to Monterey, visit the aquarium (not cheap, 3 adults, 1 child and 1 kid under 3 cost us $89 in tickets, but totally worth it and you should spend as much time there as you can), then continue south. I think, from your previous posts, that you have kids under 6 yrs old. If the kids will be with you during this drive, I would suggest that you take Hwy 101/ Hwy 5 and break the journey at Madonna Inn (each room is decorated to a different theme) and Harris Ranch (famous for their steaks!). You might want to further research this as I last traveled that route 15 yrs ago! You will arrive in LA in a good time frame and hopefully the kids will be ok too. Hwy 1 is stunningly beautiful but if you get caught up in any kind of traffic (eg Friday, Sat, Sun from 11 am onwards, approaching Monterey area) or road works, there are few alternate routes to your destination, and they are just as lengthy as potentially sitting out the traffic. Hi Apricot. My kids will not go on this trip YIPEEE lol. I had planned to pass Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, Santa Barbara, on highway 1. So it's best to take highway 101 to Monterey and then get on highway 1 for the rest of the journey. Is the aquarium still worth it without my kids? We'd miss Santa Cruz taking highway 1. Is it worth the miss? Like I said we have 1.5 days to drive from SF to LA. I just really want to take in the spectacular scenery that I keep reading about. I don't think we'll stop unless it's at a hotel or for some food. But if the aquarium is a must, then I'll definitely try to squeeze it in. Any recommendations on CHEAP hotels in the SF area. It's just for one night and I'm finding the cost pretty steep.

Do look at Jumeirah Park, Victory Heights and Green Community Motor City as well. Whilst Jumeirah and Um Suqeim are lovely I have always found Americans hate most of the kitchen and bathrooms there! They do tend to be rather dated and grubby! That is very true. I really prefer an open-style kitchen, with an island. I've rarely seen that here. However, I'll take an Um Suqeim villa any day :) And the loud AC lol. But I do love how spacious my villa is (inside and outside).
