Good morning i hear there will be a GEMS British school opening in Al Wakra right next to their American school, that's been open for a year already, i think form what I've heard it only goes to grade 6 from September, then the higher grades will open later next year. if your new to Qatar, Al Wakra is about 40 min away outside Doha, it can take longer in rush hour but as long as they have a bus service it would be ok.

i love Uber i wouldn't use any other company unless i really have to, i have had so many taxi rides where i'm arguing with the driver about how much he doesn't earn and i should pay him more, as a lady riding on my own this is so intimidating. at least with uber you don't get this, your ride is tracked and you have a note of the drives reg plate and his name. i had a kareem from the city center on Friday to my house it cost me 18QR then on Saturday the same journey cost me 28QR i don't understand where they get their prices from!! We have had a few hiccups with Uber but once we've spoke to the manager (you always fill a ratings review after your journey - if you mark it bad they contact you) they have always refund our journey and then some

Hi Qatargirl i think the international school is an American school you also have the GEMS American Academy just round the corner from there as well so for once a few schools to chose from!

Hi I know it's been difficult for GEMS to get hold of the licence, but that's through no fault of their own they still have an opening date for the beginning of September all being well this should be fine. The st Regis has been their base for enrolment and will be for some time this is because their official office is still under construction, however the school is ready to go (the office is off site) I would encourage you to go the assessment and speak with them face to face,

'>Thanks for your reply Luton! no problem you have to find somewhere you think you will enjoy as well, I know the Lagoona looks a bit dug up at the moment but when we moved in it was lovely and it will only be even better when their completed with loads more restaurants. they seem to be doing maintenance all the time in tower B be it painting and decorating etc the gym and pool are open really early and close really late, I don't have many complaints really!!!! hope you chose well, let me know what you decide! x

Hi ladies I've lived in zigzag only since March and honestly I can't fault it.. The fire alarms have been fixed and still go off but no where near as much as they used to and in the four months I've lived here I've never used the stairs. The pool is nice I've always got a sun lounger and never found the gym overcrowded, the mall is nice and so is the outside area once they have finished the works and put all the restaurant in. It's easy to get a taxi to the city centre as well. It depends what your looking for, we looked at the pearl and didn't like it as much, I felt like if I went out somewhere in jogging pants it was a massive no no and they didn't have pools on the apartment. I love it here and the only reason I'd move is just to be closer to work, I think first impressions count and that's why we live here! Hope that helps

I know it's a long shot but any info would be great, thoughts reviews etc. Have been trawling the websites. Would like an international school which teaches in English preferrable British or American curriculum. Four year old wanting to start September 2014. Do realise local vicinity would be nice close to Al Wabb but probably not possible. edited by Rianini71 on 15/06/2014 There's a meeting at the St Regis on Wednesday the 25th 6pm till 7pm for the new opening of the GEMs American Academy in Al Wakra they open in September there a brand new school taking enrolment up to grade 5 I think, at the moment. They also have a meeting on the 28th 11am till 12pm. Hope that helps

Is this maybe the St Regis? I've not really heard of it but I've only been here a couple of months, if it is there it's probably beautiful! I love the St Regis it's close to the city centre as well, If that's wrong and it's in a different place my apologies

Tamieg1- obviously compared to what I'm used to!!! I'm not missing the 17year olds being out or every one drunk on the floor so yeah it's better than that!! You don't have the same 6 pubs to chose from, yeah it's not London but make the most of it.... 55834mv maybe if your insecure about it you could do some online courses or something while your here. I've done a few to keep my mind ticking over and it's something to add on ur cv Yeah don't worry about that yet you can look at it in time

No problem 58834 yeah it seems a lot easier to meet people if you do have children out here, but the night life here is great expensive though thank god for our alcohol licence!! Lol We saw some places in Abu hamour and the old airport which were closer and still really cheap. I'm not working at the moment do you plan to work? Let me know how it goes I don't meet many other people that don't have children so keep in touch!!

Hay ladies I've just moved to Doha over a month ago and just moved out of Barwa me and my husband don't have any children but even if we did I think we still would have moved out. It was costing about 70QR to get in to the city by taxi, which we we're doing a lot as there is nothing to do in Barwa! Getting back was hard as some taxi drivers didn't even know where Barwa was! Don't get me wrong it's a lovely place and there making it look real nice, our apartment was massive but with no pool or gym, me not working I had nothing to do. I can't remember even seeing anyone else in our apartment block. Obviously I can only speak for where we were I have no idea how big Barwa is but everything looks the same and I didn't see any shops or anywhere to have coffee but I may have been a bit further out. Having said all that not to put you off we've now moved to West Bay Lagoon and I love it!!! There's shops here we have a swimming pool and a gym and a club house and I get to see people and it's great! It's only 17QR to the city centre so you don't have to drive, I just pick up a taxi outside. But we now have to pay rent where as before my husbands company paid for the apartment. Even though it's a bigger expense it really does depend on your reasons for coming out, if you just want to save, save, save then maybe you don't won't the added expense. But if your like me and my husband and want to enjoy life and save some I'd look at other places to live as well. The city offers so much so it's best to be near it especially if you don't have children. The best way to meet people is being out and about. Do some more research, have a look at other options. My husband came out before me so straight away he thought I wouldn't like it in Barwa so we got the ball rolling and I was booking him appointment to view other places, he was there by himself for just under a month and he didn't like it so it's not like between us we didn't give it a chance! Having said the we didn't. Have a car so couldn't explore very well. Maybe that's the key. Don't hesitate to throw any more questions out this is a great sight in finding out more info xx
