Hi, I went to Dr. Madhu after all the recommendations. I paid about 200 Dhs each time and went for about 4 sessions because I had to do mine in stages. Then the crown is about 700 dhs. It was not painful at all, he is very gentle.

Hi, I noticed this too when I first came here. Usually Arabic parents preface a request with "mama..." They are not actually calling the child "Mama" but similar to us saying something like: "mommy wants you to eat your lunch". That type of thing.

You can try Francesca McGeary who runs the Literacy Intervention Program which is based out of Star International School in Jumeirah after school 050-323-1251. There is also a math tutoring center in Barsha called Mathnasium. Sorry, I don't know the info for it.

Yes, I've seen some too at every mOre cafe in Dubai. Usually they are on the floating table. Just ask them.

I think it would be helpful for you to go to a nutritionist and get real, honest and professional support from them. They can give you all of the health information and dispell any myths, etc. Maybe there is a recommendation here somewhere.

There are some nice Buddha statues/indoor fountains at Lifestyle that I saw on the ground floor in Dubai Mall. They might have similar ones in their other stores too.

Hi, If you can also give the broker all of your details about what you are already covered for and how much then they will be better able to advise you about how to "top up" etc.

Hi there, You don't really get medical insurance for the one-off visits to the doctor or hospital that you could afford to pay here and there. The reason you pay for medical insurance is just in case of any "major" accident, disease or injury etc. So if you are driving on the highway and god-forbid you are in a serious accident and are taken to the hospital. Maybe you need to have surgery, and be an in-patient long-term. This kind of treatment can cost hundereds of thousands of dirhams if you were to pay out of your pocket. So this is basically the reason you should get the added insurance. I highly, highly recommend Mike Hitchcock from Holborne assets (050-738-1294) and have found that he does a great information session with you to go over your needs and all the ins-and-outs. I took 2 policies from him and got NOW Health which does direct-billing to all hopsitals and major clinics here. It costs me about 8,000 Dhs.each per year with a maximum coverage of USA I million dollars. I pay in 2 installments. It is great and would cover me for any kind of accident or disease, etc. You don't have to pay a great deal for insurance if you get the right coverage in the first place. Hope this helps!

Hi there, I also was diagnosed with this disease 4 yrs back after going from eye specialist to eye specialist. It initially got misdiagnosed as herpes which is apparently very common. I was put on strong meds and drops that could have damaged my eyes. Thankfully moorfields in DHC had just opened and I saw an amazing Italian dr who had come to work there from London moorfields. He knew right away what the problem was. He gave me some steroids and it cleared up. I have only had about 2-3 bouts/flare ups since then that last a few days and go away. It is important to get the right diagnosis because it can be scary when your vision goes blurry and you don't know why.

As a runner I would recommend both but Asics have just a slight edge above Saucony. They have better construction and conform to your foot better. Make sure you go to the Athlete's Foot in the mall and they have a special machine that analyzes your footstrike. From there, they can tell you which shoe would meet your individual requirements (ie: sometimes your foot can roll inwards or outwards, etc.) and this can actually prevent undue stress on your joints, etc. Good luck!

I just recently bought YSL Cinema in some perfume shop in the Dubai Outlet Mall. They had an excellent range and mine was 199 for the eau de parfum which is normally running here between 400-500 Dhs for the big one.

No the hours would likely be later than that. Prob anytime between 10:00-1:00 would be a safer bet. All these govt offices normal times are until 2:00 or 2:30.

I am doing a project on 21st century education (technology and curriculum) and need some volunteers to do a 5 minute questionnaire as I need to collect data from about 100 teachers. Participants must be a teacher who has direct contact time with students (not purely a coordinator, head or principal). I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!! I heard on the news a little while ago that the boat claimed there were no warnings given. Sound familiar? We will have to see what else comes out...but I'm sure it will be swept under the rug as usual.

You really need to try meditation. I had the same problem then I learned how to control my breathing and relaxing. You realize how we never dedicate any time to relaxation away from anything or daily distractions for even 5 minutes. You can find many guided meditations on YouTube.

Hi, you're right that in case of emergency this amount would not cover you. For the regular day-to-day medical concerns then this would cover you fine but the reason you have medical insurance is not for these concerns, it is for the major emergencies. This was one of my concerns as well and I moved to a plan with US 1 million.

Dear Ruth, I know what you mean. I recommend you call Mike Hitchcock from Holborne who will sit down with you, explain everything and select a plan based on your budget and requirements. He worked on my plan and arranged a great option for the price we had in mind. His number is 050-738-1294. Good luck!

Hi, It really depends on how big your company is. From my experience, most insurance companies do not want to deal with small companies. I have a small company and was able to get a policy for 2,000 AED for 1 million coverage per year. The contact person is Vimal - Gargash Insurance - [email protected] Good Luck!

Hi there, Please, please, please if you have hair loss go to get your Vitamin D levels checked. I have very severe deficiency and it turns out that this is why I was having hairloss. The same happened to my 2 friends. This is a major problem here ironically because people stay out of the sunlight. Just go to your doctor and talk to them about getting a blood test. You will be surprised that after 1 1/2 months of vitamin therapy you don't have the hair loss. Good luck :)

Hi there, I know that it's very crazy trying to sort out medical insurance here. I was lucky that someone referred me to Mike Hitchcock who is from Holborne who will sit with you and spend the time discussing all of your budget, options, add-ons and take-aways. In the end I sat with him for 2 hours and he got me an international plan that offers all of the hospitals here and good clinics for 6,500 AED roughly. They also let me pay in installments as well. His contact number is: 050 738 1294. Good luck!

I am also a fan of STEM which is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math which they have in several charter schools in the states. The schools here do not seem to have much emphasis on technology. They just seem to do the "basics" of the curriculum. Am I right?

Sure if you have a choice you might find that this suitable but for parents who aren't happy with any specific curriculum, this idea should not stop them from moving to a different school.

Do you think many parents here would like to have a non-traditional school like a Montessori elementary school or a Steiner School?

There is a perception here that children must go to the same curriculum school as their home country in order to fit back in. This is not the case. Schools back home, like universities, fit the student back into their systems. It's not a big deal but people don't really understand this. If there was only an American school here, all the English-speaking children would go there--even if they were British, etc. and there would be no choice in the matter. Children learn as long as the teacher enables the student to feel good about learning, questioning, etc. It's not about getting through a curriculum at the end of the day, its about a child learning how to solve problems and find the information they need. In the end, most children will all come out the same--the British kids who started early, the Scandanavians who started late, etc.

I think all of these comments are so relevant. I do think though that there needs to be more emphasis on authentic language-learning, and not only in English.

I mean they are all regular curriculum schools, there are no alternative curriculum schools like "Waldorf Steiner" schools for example.
