I once went to this coffee shop and was looking at the cakes. I picked one and was standing there waiting for him to put it on a plate and give it to me over the counter. He puts the cake cutter under the cake, lifts it but it falls on the side. so what does he do, he picks it up with his hand. right there in front of me. I could not believe my eyes. I'm like did you seriously just do that and expect me to eat it? he smiled as if I complimented him and shook his head with a "well, if you don't like it, that's your problem" why do people promise things they have no intentions of keeping? why do people dump garbage on the streets when they just passed by a garbage bin? so many whys...bc a lot of the times they can and bc most only think about themselves

somebody said here they have a friend who pays 70 K for a tiny studio in JLT. this is what drives the numbers. I'm sorry to say but more people than not are either afraid to push back on LLs, or they are clueless about their rights. nobody will help us if we don't help ourselves. I went to court end of last year, and yes, there was a good number of people there submitting complaints. but considering the population of Dubai and how many of us must be getting increase requests outside the norms, the place should have been super full. and it wasn't.

you just asked this for me too. I went to Boots which i love, but the pharmacist was very aggressively trying to talk me into getting NO7 with same effects she was saying. but back to your question, i read some time back that if say you are going to a party and need a last minute fix up with your skin (stretch, wrinkle free etc), apply this cream as it work wonders

used to hate my skin not just on the face but everywhere. had it super dry on the body, mix on the face. my face still has the T zone and it still gets oily and dry and have to scrub it every other week, BUT, on overall i see a lot of improvement everywhere because i changed a few things: 1. in an effort to lose weight (don't have much extra, just enough to bother me) i started eating much healthier and almost all my lunches are home cooked 2. no carbs. well, you have to have some, but its the minimum 3. i exercise daily in the morning for like an hour until my forehead is dripping and I'm soaking wet. sweating pushes out a lot of the toxins from the body and taking a shower after is so much nicer 4. for address my dry body skin, i scrub the dead skin at least a week while under the shower and put body lotion daily after shower. skin on the tights, tummy are now like a baby's bum :) 5. bc i exercise, i drink a lot more water. used to only drink a little bit right before bed, now i drink throughout the day. still not as much as i should, but on the right track. i would suggest u stop going for facial cleaning for a while and instead onec a week or so you gently scrub the dead skin of ur face with a towel. than wash just with water, no soaps or other stuff, let it rest a bit and wait for the pores to close, than only apply some light cream

I'm not trying to diagnose the person. but I'll be working with them daily and based on my knowledge about bipolars, this person might just be one. i can also not walk up to them and ask for their medical records, unless they do something extreme. so in these circumstances trying to understand what might be going on and how to best approach it, is really only an effort to avoid possible awkward situations or wrong assumptions

it should not be painful. if its painful (unless ur gums are super sensitive by nature) it means they are overdoing it. also, the harder they get bleached, the more prone they are to color again and faster than before. I do mine at home because they are not intrusive at all and they turn my teeth into healthy looking white rather than paper white. unless u have massive stains or whatnot, try bicarb few times a week as other suggested. not every day though, as it will irritate ur gum

thanks, some of the stuff mentioned here is really informative. to answer the question on what I meant by treating/handling, I was looking for some tips on "best practices" on how to relate to somebody whom you suspect might be bipolar. Don't think its a type 1 extreme case, but I picked up signs that this really bright young person can flip into almost like a different personality. or they would say something, but than would say the exact opposite and you just don't know what to make of it. one more question. when somebody is down (depressed, annoyed, btchy, whatever) what;s the best way to approach them? do i leave them alone until they snap out of it? do i try to a be a friend? should i be firm banking on the fact that they might respect its an office environment? would this last approach help them by taking their attention away from whatever they are going through or would just further build anxiety in them?

Hi All we all pretty much know how the end of service grat is calculated. for every complete year 21 days, unless the employee resigned, in which case its a fraction of that. the 21 days are calculated on the base salary. so lets say somebody is making 300 k AED a year and their base is 60%, so 180 k. from the 180 k, how do you/should you calculate the grat pay for the 21 days? do you take hourly rate x 8 hours a day x 21? OR do you take the 180 k, devide by 365 (total number of days a year) x 21? it actually makes a difference. up until now we can calculated as per the second formula but now payroll came back with a calculations as per the first one and is arguing that they are correct. edited by Magyera on 23/05/2013

best thing is to check out a private wealth management company like global eye. they act as a middle man and only charge the provider, not the individual but they have a lot of information at hand, like wills. btw, you cannot just write it yourself and get it legalized. a law firm will have to do it for you and from what i know the cheapest is like 5 k. if as per the sharia law there's a different rule for muslims, that I'm not aware of, but others, its as indicated above just call globaleye, they are pretty good and nice. i brought them in to meet with our employees who were interested in wills, pensions, etc

maybe i didn't elaborate enough on the nagging part ...i do nag a lot, but i think its because i see no other way. some of the more boring and less important nagging I do is: don't make such a mess every time you shower, its a swimming pool there and I'll end up having to clean it. the issue here is I have to "nag" about things like: let's go to this place which i really want to go to, said it 100 times and you always said no, can we start planning something for vacation, , can we watch the movie I want, for a change. nagging is not just about repeating the same thing, its a tone of voice too. and i do sound like i nag. if it just crossed ur mind for a split second that I'm finding excuses for him, ditch it. I'm not! as the thread titles says, i was curious to know what other men do to drive us into nagging mode

if you grow up on a certain diet, its hard to shift to something completely different. and you might need to or you might not. the key word here is what you need, not what you want. in most societies people use their head/"logic"/traditions, etc when they make decisions about something, but rarely they use their gut feeling or the voice of their body. i came back from xmas bloated and fat. so went on a diet which was about eating healthy again w/o much carb. so would have large plates of lean meat with raw veggies. i noticed my stomach reacts much better to raw vegetables than to cooked ones. Would i want to ditch the meat? No! simply because my body tells me it needs it. are you trying to become vegetarian because of some form of external pressure? if you find it hard to give up on meat its probably because you should not give up on it, just find healthier ways to cook it. are you one of those who never really liked meat and planning to stop having any? good for you, its probably the right choice, since your body never liked it. listen to your stomach, not your head. your head can be fooled, your body cannot

RE: those who jumped at my throat 1. i say its her stupidity that caused the damage. did I say with a single word I thoughts she did it on purpose? 2. I brought this particular example up but also said there is something happening on a regular basis that should not. just to give you all an idea: rubbish regularly left inside the house, dirty/wet cleaning cloths thrown on top my my make up, the living room furniture always w/o exception pushed around and left differently than how I told her, so that after each cleaning I go home I have to move furniture back into its place. She forgets, she is in a hurry, she is distracted, whatever. I never thought she does anything bad on purpose, but it doesn't change that I'm either moving furniture, taking out garbage (I also have a cat, so imagine what the cat does with the garbage bag left in the living room by the time I'm home), cleaning the make up kit off the chemicals or water she dumped on it, or now I have to figure out what I do about the curtain. And no, its not a matter of its just a curtain. In Ikea you might find curtains for couple hundred, but if you spent a lot more on them, trust me, it does bother you if it gets destroyed Well maybe its time you need a new maid. As someone said, they're meant to make your life easier, and she's clearly not. Or have you ever thought you're expecting too much from her in the time allowed no, not really. she doesn't need to iron, wash or do any crazy cleaning, since bc of the kitty i have to tidy up throughout the week myself. thing is, I posted here mainly bc of the curtain. I looked for them for months before i found what i wanted and won't find them again, so i got really frustrated when i saw them damaged and wanted to let some steam out :)

Dubai Maids have a team of 2 maids that come for 2 hours minimum (So in all it's four hours but they stay only two). I'm not sure if this would be a solution for you. Honestly, I'm not sure if I would trust a company that would accept to work only for two hours. If you look at it from the site of the company, that would mean that they would earn only between 60 and 80 dhs per service. For that, they would have to pay : - the maid - count 3 hours as you should take in count the transportation - the driver that drop off and pick up the maid - the costs inherent to transportation (vehicle, insurance, fuel) - the person that would have to manage all this, and the accounting etc... - And all the cost of a regular company : licence, office's rent, regular phone bills ect... (for example, my maids are always in contact with their driver so he is driving around with the team and arrive just on time...who pays the bills ?) I don't think this can be viable for a company and if one offers that, I would assume that they cut down the price on the salaries of the employees (maid, driver and manager), as the other costs can't be changed, which would most likely lead to lower service... I understand what you mean by being annoying though. Perhaps investigate with your neighbours ? Maybe they are using the service of a company and you could make a deal with the company as the cleaning lady could go directly to your place and wouldn't need transportation - which would be like staying longer in one place. i hear you and agree on many points. having said that, I'm yet to see a cleaning service that would satisfy me. as for the employee salaries being cut, come on:) you think they increase the rates and number of hours so they could be more generous to their staff?

i checked sulafa about a year ago. sizes are good, but the shapes are odd and kitchen in complete dark. was checking just yesterday their rental prices and they are from lowest 65, but mainly in the 70-75 range, which is way too much considering the mess around the building, the fact that from the balcony, your nose if long enough will touch the wall of the next building, again odd lving room shape... dunno why would anybody pay 75 for those one beds

Does she have a degree? About 20k i would say. 20 k? no way. office manager is a more professional way of calling what most of the time is receptionist/secretarial work. nationality does make a difference, and also the company she would be joining. but if the role is a standard office admin one, english or no english, she will not make more than tops 15 all in. if the role is more towards a PA to a board of execs in a large western org, she can easily make 20 + That's not correct... Office managers supervise administrative support workers, such as office clerks and secretaries, and coordinate administrative support activities. They work in all types of business and government offices. Office managers may head the entire office in a small firm or administrative support operations in a department of a large company. In either case the manager is responsible for directing workers and seeing that their jobs are done efficiently. Also in UAE the office Manager usually acts as PRO. It's better paid than PA/EA in many cases. I Lets agree to disagree. Titles here can be hugely misleading. A walk in sales guy can call himself sales executive and those people earn small money. At a big firm a sales executive can not only be the top earner, but a top decision maker too. Same goes for office managers. That’s why I said it depends on the company

transferred some money from HSBC to my RAK account. money gets debited but never shows up in my other account. it has been over a week now. spoke with 7 different people and they all had a different story as to why the money doesnt go through. best part is, they gave me 2 options, either recall or transfer it again. either way, I'll have to pay a 150 AED processing fee. its insane. the level of incompetency Ive seen here everywhere is not something ive experienced anywhere else in the world. and what can you do? nothing. changing banks wont solve my problem somewhat unrelated, but when i hear people saying its such an easy ride for us here bc we dont pay taxes and service industry is there to kiss our feet, by all means, do come and spend one month struggling with everything and let me know after

so my friends and i went to this presentation held by a liverpool rep last nigth. what a joke. first of all, the presentation was not held by a uni professor, but instead by a 3rd party rep. this guy just wasted 2 hours of our lives. from talking in slang like "believe you me" (wtf), to racist comments on black people, filipinos, other asians, to using a tone and language one would use with 18-20 year old school kids (the room had only professionals in jobs for years) and most importantly not providing any info whatsoever on the actual courses, the whole presentation was off on all levels. im actually contemplating writing a complaint email directly to the uni, so they know what sort of people run around the world representing them. Magyera, I wouldn't hvae said 'believe you me' is slang, particularly - certainly not inappropriate in a business context though it sounds fuddy duddy to me (possibly only because of who I've most often heard using it) - why does it bother you? The rest does sound bad, but if you do email Liverpool I wouldn't mention the believe you me thing, they are likely to think you're overreacting. of course not. see, had he done a good presentation, the believe you me part would have been perceived as funny by those who haven’t heard this expression before. but because the whole presentation was so bad and inappropriate on a number of occasions, his attempts to be funny came across as lame. I don’t think the level of education provided by the uni has anything to do with this clown, but it does make you think they made some bad choices when appointing who will represent and introduce them to potential students sorry, not 'funny' but 'fuddy duddy' ie old fashioned. It isn't funny at all but is a fairly standard expression in British English. i said funny not bc i misread you, but bc of how the guy tried to portray himself.

employing part-time maids who are either on private visas or sponsered legally. I live in a gated community and its ridiculous how this practice thrives...do people really get caught or is this just an urban myth (according to the maids who do this and the people that hire them)? edited by samdhi on 16/04/2012 i don't understand whats wrong with a part time maid. if you engage them through an agency, it's perfectly legal

Love snails smothered in garlic, butter and parsley. I saw them in the frozen section of either Geant or C4 - in the shell - garlic, butter, parsley. You can probably thaw them and use them for cooking. Going back to the States at the end of the week and can't wait to down snails, clams, oysters. dont like the ones in that butter sauce. any idea if you can buy frozen but w/o any preparation done on them?
