I would agree with chezmoi. Having your own place may be the answer to all the problems. Talk it through with your husband and let him know that the situation in the house is not healthy for the children, you or him.

Please remember that rents can often increase every year...salaries don't tend to! At minute our rent is going up 10% every year.... This is surprising Buddha, is this in any way in the agreement contract? Like shadowmist2 rightly said, one has to really negotiate the rent. Thanks ladies.;)

Welcome to Dubai and good luck with the last of your packing and sorting out of "stuff" in the US. The good news is that you have a Relocation Consultant working with you and they will do all the leg work for you in terms of finding somewhere to live. They will also know Dubai very well and understand exactly what you can get for your rent allowance of 100,000 AED. Many people move here without this help so do take advantage of it - it's a huge benefit. As others have said it will be a bit of a challenge to find somewhere with 3 bedrooms in that price range but it is possible and that is why your Relocation Consultant has suggested Queue Point - there is currently a number of 3 bedroom units available there for around the 100,000 AED price mark. Someone else has suggested Remraam which is also a good idea to look at. Both of these areas are considered a "little further out of Dubai" but in reality Queue Point is only a 15 minute drive to Downtown and will be able to access Mirdif and DSO very quickly for shops etc until the facilities are built. We all move here with a budget for housing - for some it is bigger than others but I think we would all like it to be higher than it is! SJJ100, thank you for the encouragement, I am also looking into the various areas you have all suggested and also forwarded the areas to our relocation agent. I hope something good comes up.:)

Hi Mamie, 100K is not enough for a 3 bedroom. See if you can negotiate the housing allowance with your husbands company. In order for your move to be worth it financially, you shouldn't be paying from your pocket housing. We also sold everything to move here or put it in storage back in the states. We just bought everything from Ikea, as far as furniture for our apartment. I feel that it is expensive to live in Dubai compared to the states. From grocery's to clothes to going out to dinner. Dragon Mart is a good place to get good deals on household stuff. You can bargain with them there. It will take some time to get used to living here, it took me about 8 months. And finding a job was difficult for me, it took me about 3 months and that was with only about 3 interviews in that time. There is no discrimination laws here, so they can hire you based on anything pretty much. And they do know what nationality they want to work for the company. So don't get discourage on that. I know I did. Also, expat woman has some great coffee morning get together's with ladies that you can meet some friends. That really helped me too. Good luck!! I would be happy to meet up with you once you get here. Thank you geogiapeach2, I would be happy to meet with you too. I know I am going to need you guys on ground to help.:)

Don't feel that you will have to buy everything new. There are great bargains to be had buying things second hand as people are always moving. Dear plum2, I will be getting in touch with you when I get into Dubai because I definitely will be needing household goods. Thanks.

Thank you so much for all your comments. They helped because I am beginning to coordinate myself a bit. To be honest, I am really scared because it is going to be my first time in Dubai. My husband will be working in Knowledge Village and my last son who will be in the 6th grade, still has assessment to do in 3 schools, one in Academic city and we have not made a choice for his school until we arrive. Relocating is so stressful, we are practically giving away most of our things. For our family size (4) moving to Dubai, we need a 3 bedroom housing of AED 100,000. For the first few months, we can only afford 1 car so I would like a place where I can easily get transportation because I am going to be working (don't know where). I am also hoping that there might be a school bus for my son's school. I don't know how that works in the schools. Our relocation agent will be taking us house hunting but I need to know from you ladies some nice places to live in and also affordable. Where are you from in the states? I am also from the US. We just moved here 3 weeks ago. We are still in a hotel apartment because it has taken so long for paperwork to process for Visas, Emirates ID, etc for my husband. It is going to be pretty difficult for you to find a 3 bedroom for 100K from what I've seen. I'll look up Knowledge Village. We got a villa in Jumeirah Village Circle which isn't far from Motor City and it seems to be much more affordable and bang for your buck for space...however, we are from a small town in Texas and are used to being further away from amenities but there are still plenty of advantages in JVC as compared to where we came from (except for the whole family and friends part ;)). Dear sisterscott, I would like to know the going rate for the villa you got in JVC and how many rooms. Do you think there are still more available?

Hi sisterscott, we are from St. Charles in Missouri. I was looking at 100K for the 3-bedroom thinking we would be able to get one. We may have to increase our budget for the house. It is so expensive moving and we are going to be buying everything for the house there in Dubai. We will be staying in a hotel when we arrive for some weeks so I will be searching but I needed to get good recommendations to help me from you ladies that are there. Thanks::)

Thanks geogiapeach2. We are actually looking for an apartment with 3 bedrooms, and our relocation agent suggested Queue Point which is close to the Academic city. Right now, I have no idea of anything. We arrive in 2 weeks. Any suggestion is appreciated.
