I have seen a place called lovin' my bags in Dubai Mall, its at one of the exits to cinema parking near marks and spencers (might be the same floor I cant remember). I've been meaning to try them for ages I have a bag I want to get cleaned properly. Looks like they do repairs as well.

Love my macbook air! battery isn't the best tho, (3-4hrs I work across a few programs which drains it quicker) once you're near a power outlet it's perfect. More cafe in the g & d park has that lovely long table in the back with outlets on it.

The only place I found reasonable was dubizzle, prices for new garden furniture anywhere even dragon mark are pretty outrageous (to me anyway). We got a perfect wooden set table and 8 chairs for 800aed, just kept an eye and jumped on the bargain when it came up.

I get that in meetings or general group conversations all the time, I just say I don't understand so if you want me to participate speak English, if not I have plenty of other work to do. Speaking English is a qualification if I didn't speak English I wouldn't be qualified to do my job, there are many official language qualifications out there. Our company language is officially English if I had my way it would be enforced for all working communications as its only fair that we can all understand what is being communicated. However my boss feels its fine as long no one is being excluded at the time. It doesn't encourage open communication and I feel it causes barriers rather than breaking them down. From a safety perspective its downright dangerous having people that don't understand each other working together, it can and does cause serious accidents. There should only be one language, whatever that language is, is up to the company to apply and enforce. edited by mannikat on 12/11/2014 It is a qualification? So in England, if you applied for a position, your CV would include a section saying you are a trained English speaker? It is a skill in this market if it is necessary for the role. Hardly equal to a degree. It may be a skill that qualifies one to be a candidate, it is nevertheless still only a skill. I would not go as far as calling it a skill unless one is specially trained in it (advanced English), even. I have worked here with professionals in the highest level of their career, absolute brains and experts, who could not string a clear English sentence together. Till the schools begin teaching it as the first language, not ESL, then there is little room to complain. I did not say that you need English to be intelligent?? If I could not read or write English I would not be qualified to do my job. My degree was completed in English therefore I am qualified to practice my skills in that language, I may choose to do it in Spanish but I if can hardly string a sentence together in Spanish then I am not qualified to do that job am i? English is degree course as are most languages. Just because a qualification is not equal to a degree doesn't mean its not necessary. Do only university level qualifications count? Language skills are often on CV's at home and I'm sure its the same in the UK which has far more expats than the UAE. You can call it a skill but if its required for the job and you don't have it you are not qualified for the job. edited by mannikat on 12/11/2014 I reiterate. English is a SKILL, not a qualification. I reiterate, English can be a skill that QUALIFIES you to get a position. I reiterate, IF THE POSITION REQUIRES English to QUALIFY for the position, then YES, a certain level is expected. As a 'qualified' English reader, you certainly are not reading clearly. edited by Londiamond on 12/11/2014 Thank you for all your reiterations :nerd: I will continue to regard English language skill as a qualification when employing staff. If you and or your company doesn't need it good for you. I am not an 'English Reader'

Inheritance should always be divided equally regardless of current financial situation. If the other siblings want to give more of their inheritance to the lesser financially fortunate siblings they can do it out of own choice but a parent must always give equal. Always. My parents have made it clear we will all get equal regardless of where we are in life. edited by Appletiser on 11/11/2014 I agree but where the inheritance is a business, this is very difficult especially where one child has worked/manages the business and the others are not involved. I will not receive any of my parents farm my brother has worked it his whole life, it would be very unfair for me to receive half of it.

Really I disagree, I think most people here in Dubai do reverse park So why don't I see it? Everywhere I go, way more people drive forwards into parking spaces than reverse into them. I can't remember the last time I had to wait while somebody reverse-parked, but pretty much every day I have to wait while somebody reverses *out* of a parking space. Looking out of the window at the parking at work and at home, by far the majority of people have parked nose-in, only a few cars are ever reverse-parked. Many shopping mall parking spaces are angled too, which is done specifically to *prevent* reverse parking. And to pick up on something somebody else said, where are all the car parks that *require* people to reverse park? In 15 years of living in Dubai, I've never ever encountered one. edited by Madge_Gustard on 11/11/2014 If you park in the car park of any oil and gas related office you will be required to reverse park. We require our staff to reverse park at my work but we share a car park so its not as effective.

All you can do is what you think is right and fair, wills cause an awful lot of issues and upset in (rural) Ireland specifically with regard to land, perhaps its the same everywhere? I know of one will that caused so much upset three generations of one family were destroyed including a suicide. Something about land/money can change lovely people in utterly horrible ones and then they never change back its so sad. My parents have told us their plans we are all aware. Perhaps its better that people know so they can manage their expectations? <em>edited by mannikat on 11/11/2014</em>

What is the most annoying part of it is that you **pass** the parking space so that people think you aren't going to stop for it. Then, you want to reverse backwards into it. That's why the "morons" are behind you because there is no possible way for you to indicate that you are going to reverse into the spot. It ought to be illegal. erm no - that's what the little lever beside the steering wheel is for - you INDICATE you are going to move into that spot - I usually flick on my hazards that I'm stopping then indicate to show I'm going to reverse. If people are too dumb to realise what that means, they shouldn't have a license. They aren't dumb. If you indicate, I would think you are turning right, possibly into a parking space further on. If you flick on your hazards, I would assume there is some sort of hazard. I bet you put your hazards on in the fog too. Sorry but that is so ridiculous, I have never once thought 'that person that drove past that open spot and is now indicating and pulled in on the side of the open spot is going for another spot up ahead that i magically can't see.' Seriously not once I have not understood what the person is clearly doing.

The nad al sheba track is good, they have just changed the 8k loop slightly, few more bends now! Unfortunately a lot more sand on the track than there use to be and a lot of the lights aren't working, so make sure you have a good light if you go there in the evening. Al Qudra is 18k straight then a 50k loop and back on the 18k straight.

Reversing into a parking spot is by far the safest option for you, your car and people around you. The area you are reversing to is going to be smaller and have no traffic as opposed to reversing into roads with pedestrians and traffic. Many companies in Europe enforce reverse parking in their car parks for staff safety. I rather hold up traffic for a few mins than be responsible for an accident when reversing out of a blind spot!!

Once it goes beyond what the requirements of the job its not appropriate, whether its acceptable here or not. Nationality where you need to meet a local content requirement fine, language, experience, etc... all necessary even where you need to represent the brand, can understand not hiring an overweight person for a health food brand etc...From an employment perspective you want you want, the very very narrow parameters often do more harm than good companies miss out on excellent candidates for silly reasons. The laws back home force employers to be more open and lots of times it can work in their favour they haven't been so narrow and end up meeting candidates they might have rejected off hand. Having said that trying to employ people here is a nightmare suitably qualified people are hard to come by yet we still recieve 100's of CV's from people are not even remotely suitable for the the advertised position. <em>edited by mannikat on 09/11/2014</em>

A salary of 25k should be manageable. I would recommend living somewhere cheaper and getting a car even renting one to begin with. You can can rent a car for about 1500 a month. I haven't done a flat share here myself but I know a few people that did when they first arrived and they made great friends. Like anywhere you can get lucky or unlucky with roommates just try and take your time and find nice people if you do decide to share. A flat share will also mean you wont need to furnish a whole apartment. Cautionary note regarding recruiters I was told I could expect a certain salary, I literally started on half of that. It increased fairly quickly but I was lucky my company is growing and recognised I was worth more. Good luck.

Looks to me like there will be access to Biz Bay by the metro station? Dubai bound anyway, no access in the AD direction though. No I don't think so, as that is where the massive red construction zone is There are blue lines coming in and out just before the metro station though? although there is no sign of this on the actual road?! :) we may be looking differently at the map, the blue roads I see are taking you off on to financial centre road, after the DM metro station, completely bypassing Business Bay ... & how do you get into it if you are coming from Dubai RTA you got some explaining to do ... I guess I am losing it then and I do need an eye test! I see blue small blues coming in and out before Business bay metro station joining the junction with the traffic lights? Dubai mall metro station isn't even on the map I'm look at?

I'll be totally honest, I was like this as a child until I finished primary school. My parents brought me to all sorts of Dr's and Specialists who couldn't find anything wrong. Eventually I just grew out of it. The more I worried about it the more it happened. I hated those alarms and plastic sheets...its just awful. I think when my parents gave up trying to fix it it was less stressful. They just made sure there were clean dry sheets and bed clothes in my room. It became less of a big deal and slowly stopped happening until we finally realised it had been weeks then months.

You'll need to check with St Francis' or St Mary's. I don't think they come to your house though. Most christenings now take place as groups christenings, part of bringing the child into the community.

Don't have kids but I am grateful that my parents never let me do anything like this. In fact I never asked as I knew there would be no chance. I wasn't too happy at the time but in some ways even then I was grateful I didn't have to make the decisions my friends did with regards to boys & booze. Tell her its out of love one day she will actually realise this is true.

For sure for sure Brits have a much better professional work ethic than I would say most cultures. Others don't have that work ethic because they just don't know it and haven't been exposed to it. We know to give the customer their rights and time etc, but when people are messing about on their mobiles etc I think they are just not aware or just don't feel that work-ethic responsibility that has been imbibed in us. Many times I am waiting for the Filipino/Indian/any service worker to get off their phone or stop chatting, and it doesnt bother me in the slightest. Everyone seems to be plugged in and chatting these days incessantly; may be we dont realise coz we are here but may be in the UK they are all now plugged in and chatting also. I think its the times; not the place in which we live. I can honestly say that I have never seen shop/restaurant/banking staff using their mobile in work hours. Most of them are so busy I doubt they have time to text etc It isn't the done thing at all I agree, most retailers and all banks (back home) do no allow personal mobiles on the shop floor/customer areas.

These threads are really annoying - people are only rude because [b'>you [/b'>[b'>let them[/b'>. Just tell them no, don't be rude, dont push in, wait your turn etc and move on. I don't let people be rude to me, they have already been rude if I have stop them or say something. I don't let people away with it, but I highly doubt they give a hoot that they have been rude, just annoyed they have been stopped. I have never once (in Dubai) had someone get embarrassed or 'realise' they were wrong. They are rude and they know it and they don't care. <em>edited by mannikat on 20/10/2014</em>

Its just plain rude and I find Dubai has made me quiet hard, it just happens so often. I always stop people to trying to push in unless they have asked which rarely happens. We are all busy and have people waiting sorry love! Recently had a guy try and jump the queue when I was buying a bottle of water, I said excuse me and he started shaking his two bottles of water at me, did it back with my one and he got stroppy like he had been caught out and still tried to jump me... rude! I genuinely cried in one shop last year at home over Christmas when the staff and customers were nice to me!

Seeing as its a kids bike if you can take it to decathalon they will give the right pump/with the right valve, they can also make sure its setup correctly. As someone else said don't go to a petrol pump you'll blow the tube. It would also be an idea to get a small repair kit. I'm sure you already have all the safety gear and lights. Hope you little enjoys it!

Had a really bad experience with their 'premium' rates, normal rate going up by 600% is extortion, and like other posters drivers refusing to come or simply deleting the job and you getting charged for cancellation. They are supposed to have GPS but they don't seem to like using it or are just incapable. After getting charging over 600aed for an 80aed trip our driver asked for a tip?! Even if they were reliable which they are not, their charges are unjustifiable.
