Yes, but it is really only safe to cycle on the cycling tracks, there is one at Nad al Sheba 4k & 8k loops, its close to Meydan race course. there is also al qudra near Arabian Ranches which has an 18k straight 50k loop then back 18k's to the car park. I haven't done this myself yet, as i am just a beginner, but I've heard its quiet good. Utility cycling or commuting wouldn't be very safe, although i have seen more people on bikes recently especially around Jumeirah. There is a cycling club, dubai roadsters. Not a member as I am still too slow but they seem quiet nice when they speed past me on the track :) edited by mannikat on 17/02/2014

Not sure if i can help, what is in the recipe that should have set it? Jelly, gelatine or cream cheese? 3 or 4 hours in the fridge should have been enough. edited by mannikat on 13/02/2014

Prints is fab but a little pricey if you are buying in bulk. We got envelopes for our thank you cards in Dubai library distributors on SZR, much cheaper. http://www.dubailibrary.com/home.php

Can't believe people are trying to drive around them, i hope they don't hurt anyone. Its all well and good having these events but if they aren't managed properly something bad is going to happen.

In and out of Dubai last thurs with 2months on my visa, used my egate had no issues. The issue is only with a passport with less than 6 months, I got stopped going to Doha with 4 months on my passport last year, talked my way through Dubai airport, was a bit nervous getting to Doha but they didn't even notice.

I brought a bike out to Dubai with me flying Emirates. It was classed as part of my luggage allowance but I was travelling business on that occasion so I had plenty. I contacted emirates in advance to say I was bringing it, mainly to ensure the car they sent for pick up was able to take it. I looked at bike boxes but they were expensive and added to the weight so I took my bike to my local bike shop and they dismantled it for travel, packed it in bubble wrap and a cardboard bike box. They told me to bring in some bits and bobs to fill in the spaces and I put in some t-shirts, bike pump, tools etc. and then they sealed it up. They said they do this all the time for people going out on cycle camps in the summer etc. Because the handlebars and the front wheel were off it was much shorter and easy to handle. They didn't even stop me to check it in Dubai. It was easy to assemble again and I was was off on a cycle round the Marina the next day. Thank you!! Hopefully the shop where i bought it will do this for me and hopefully i can put it back together properly! Thanks again!

If there is any way you can wrap the bike in cardboard and deflate the tyres and try and make it as compact as possible you should be fine. I guess it also depends on the the type/style of bike. You could take the handlebars off and seat as well as the peddles and possibly pack them in you luggage that way you mainly have the frame and tyres together. hope that may give you some ideas to help bring your bike over :) x As I said bore also the 1st of Feb was what I was told re: golf clubs being added into your luggage and this was from first class check-in (not to sound like a snob) was just trying to be helpful. As I said I guess time will tell and if that's the case I'll find another way to travel with my clubs :) Yep, just googling bike boxes now, i'm worried about it getting bent or damaged but don't want to pay a fortune for a hard box it would seriously eat into the saving of bringing my bike over.... will keep looking. thanks. Good luck with your clubs, DH will not he happy to hear about the new rule....

Hiya mannikat I know Emirates has just brought in this new ruling as I use to take my golf clubs with me when traveling. Luckily I just came in time before the rule change :( It comes in on the 1st Feb! All I can say is I hope your bike isn't too heavy. Apart from the new charges I have never had any issues with my clubs. Sorry can't help you with your main Q. The bike should be light, and I will be traveling light otherwise, I am just wondering how i am going to pack it? There is very little detail on the site except for the weight info. Was hoping someone that might have done it could tell me what to do?

They all have their reasons for doing it, could be their first, their first since they had a baby, first since an injury, first in dubai or a million other reasons. If i had done it, i would like to have a memento, its not like no one got them just the people that it was probably a lot harder for.... edited by mannikat on 28/01/2014

No such thing as a wrong question. Yes, any Muslim can say the prayer and slaughter according to the guidelines for the meat to be considered zabiha/ halal. edited by Apricot on 28/01/2014 Thank you, I ask because i know back home, it must be performed by an approved Imam and certified, i guess that's because its not a Muslim country.

one example of the "sane ones" was that next year the [b'>team[/b'> entry for the 10km run should all start and run together.... yes dear, when one person did it in 43 mins and someone else in 2.5 hrs... I guess they are thinking of it as a team event? edited by mannikat on 27/01/2014

I used to buy them at the market in Sharjah where I chose the chicken pecking around and they would slaughter it, pluck it and prepare it for me in 15 mins. But I can't be dealing with driving to Sharjah all the time! Sorry to go off topic, but can this be halal? I am just curious, its not an issue for me. of course - the guy says a prayer and slits its throat then pluks... I didn't think just anyone could say the prayer... asking because i dont know... sorry! edited by mannikat on 27/01/2014

Try the wedding shop in jumeriah http://www.theweddingshop.ae/?gclid=CJGfkay7ibwCFYmN3godFCUADQ The girls there are lovely, i found my dress there although i bought it back home as it was much cheaper. I also tried pronovias the staff were rude and honestly that is all i have ever heard about that shop. I don't know how they keep going. Thank you for that :) I'll go to the Wedding Shop then! Just booked an appointment with them :D Pronovias was a horrible experience - I thought weddings were supposed to be a joyous occasion, why are the consultants so grumpy? Their dresses are lovely but them not being helpful at all will definitely not make me go back there. Pronovias is off the list. You will have a much nicer time at the Wedding Shop! Enjoy!

This is a question of respect. We should all respect each other's views and feelings. No one can say you CAN'T be offended about breastfeeding - some people just are not comfortable with b00b on show. If a BF-ing mum wants to dismiss other people's views then she should have her views dismissed too. There aren't only 2 options Scribs - there is a third - which is covering up. I have BF walking around Spinneys with baby in her Baby Bjorn - but I covered up so no one could see anything. There are ways and means of BF-ing in public without showing your b00b and offending people. Why can't people just respect one another? Like!

So people who aren't 100% comfortable with seeing a woman pop out her boob and breast feed are ignorant and anti breast feeding? How is that fair? I haven't seen any comment saying its disgusting or bad??? No wonder women who can't breast feed are made to feel so bad. You dont have to be 100% comfortable with it. But, we dont need to discourage things just because it makes us a bit uncomfortable. That's life. You wont always be comfortable. Discouraging breastfeeding in public - discourages breastfeeding. Suggesting being discreet about it isn't discouraging it, the more women that do this the more normalised it will become, social norms take time to change. I agree its normal and natural but accusing people who feel this is a modesty issue of being ignorant and anti breasting feeding is highly unfair.

Mannikat there are so many things on our roads that need changing or "cracking down on " here and the fact that they are starting to do something should not be knocked. Yes they need to add more pedestrian crossings and footpaths but unfortunately things happen very slowly in Dubai. edited by Genkigirl on 16/01/2014 edited by Genkigirl on 16/01/2014 I know what your saying but plenty of roads don't even have crossings, not everyone has the luxury of cars or getting taxi's. I just think enforcement should start on the roads with drivers.... to most on here a 200dh fine is annoying but to many people in dubai its quiet a percentage of their salary for something they probably don't even realise is wrong.

Good!!! As a motorist who has had to swerve to miss jaywalkers, then it should happen more. Am sure most of us dread the upnthinkable happening and being halled away, having to pay blood money etc just because someone wanted to jaywalk. Now if they could also fine the idiots who cycle at 6 am with no lights, ne helmet and on the wrong side of the road, that would also be a good thing. Seriously? I hate the thought of hitting someone, but i think they need to improve footpaths and pedestrian crossings before they starting fining people like this. I have seen a police car ignore a car going the wrong way (on a hard shoulder) on Al Khail road a far more serious offence. Besides which if you hit and killed someone the last thing on your mind would be blood money....

D*mned if you do and d*mned if you don't. This woman offended some guy by breast feeding, that is more his problem than hers. I hope she doesn't take it too personally. No one can say no you cant find that offensive even if you think they are ridiculous. My friends are just starting to have kids and i am still a bit squeamish about them popping out their boobs, cant help it. I was raised with a very distinct sense of modesty, I was raised to see it as something that should be hidden, it doesn't make me a monster just a product of my up bringing. I dont have kids but i have learned from my mum listen to everyone and do what you think is best and most importantly know that you will do what you have to, so never, never say never!

I would also advise going to a dr before starting any contraceptive. The first time i went to get the pill (way back when) they were recommending the injection(no worrying about it being infective through sickness etc..) It did not work for me, i was an emotional wreck, it took six months and another hormone injection (i can't remember what now) to get my system back in line, i had horrible black spotting for 6months. if it works for you its great but if not there is nothing you can do for 3 months, you cant just stop taking it like a pill. I'm highly sensitive to hormone changes as i have learnt from this and my recent trip to the menopause and back. Messing with your hormones can cause havoc, please be careful.

Write a good cover letter and make sure your CV is tailored for the job. Good luck edited by mannikat on 13/01/2014

Does anyone know if the 6k track is being reopened soon? Stupidly tried it last night (did not see the blown over sign saying was closed since june) cycled a few k before coming up to a wall of hoarding and having to turn back. Also got some serious static shocks from my bike going under the power cable near the end of the track, anyone else experienced this?

We had one at our wedding back home for about almost 4 times that crowd and paid a little bit less... the handy thing about the photo booth is you get the photos and so do your guests. The instant photos is kind of what prompted me to get the polaroid, I hope you find something a bit more reasonable. Def get the polaroid, the newer ones make lovely wallet size photos :)

I can totally relate to this. I've had a few situations lately where i have been left slack jawed by comments by colleagues and kicked myself for not being able to say anything. At the time i wholeheartedly regretted it and wished i could go back and open my mouth to respond. I am glad i didn't say what i came up with after, i know what its like to wish i had something and moved on to higher ground. I know its horrible now but it will fade. This woman sounds nasty and deserved nothing more than you walking away saying i don't have to listen to this. Hope you feel better soon and forget this mad woman. Edited to say i went to this with my hubby one morning over the hols with no kids. the only kids there were so enchanted there was no noise. Love disney!! edited by mannikat on 13/01/2014

I don't understand - why would she come to your house to tell you this? Surely having already been fired from her job she is aware how precarious her situation is in this country? I agree with Izzy - since your husband has decided he wants nothing more to do with his family then it's perhaps time the Old Bill stepped in. That would wipe the smile off this woman's face. Sending you love and hugs OP - a truly dreadful situation x agreed get what you can, get out and drop them both in their own mess!

No matter what position you are in you need to be able to justify asking for a pay rise and/or bonus. I have been lucky that a few companies have tried to poach me so i haven't had to ask for increases they have been given to get me to stay.
