Olliebird, after checking, I confirm that the closest nursery to the Pearl is Fun First www.funfirstnursery.com (in the contact section you can see the map, nursery is the green arrow). Some Spanish expats living in the Pearl confirmed that, and also recommended. Regards.

Thanks, Mustard.... at least one thing I don't have to buy... I'm having a look at Facebook page for selling 2nd hand items in Qatar, and seems to be that electric heaters are necessary, is it ok? Is it cold in winter (because of the humidity, I suppose, as in the Spanish coast...)? Thanks again and excuse me for so many questions...

Thanks Qchick I shall check one Porto Arabia / AlFardan, I have been shown only a handful of options by 2 realtor companies, who are telling me that they do not have any 3 beds available, so your post is encouraging. Olliebird, maybe you can check also this thread, that is updated as I asked some questions regarding the Pearl and getting some opinions from nice Ladies living there. http://www.expatwoman.com/qatar/forum/topic198029-is-this-package-good.aspx

Mustard, I'm quite bad calculating distances... how much time aprox you need from tower 30/31 to reach Spinneys? And, do you think that riding a bycicle in the Pearl is a good option to move (and exercise)? Thanks for your help. It's about 20min walk I'm not sure if you can cycle on the pearl I guess you can on the main road but there are some crazy drivers here not sure if I'd use a bike here Thanks! 20 minutes is ok for me, I'm used to walk a lot for the daily shopping here in Madrid, never go to big supermarkets in the malls, love to buy in the small supermarkets and shops, 15-20 minutes walking from my home. About the bicycle, I also refer to the pedestrian area, not the main road around... Ok, once we lived there, I will check that. Regards! Yes!:)I assume that! I will go in the early morning, when possible! By the way, and thinking in new stuff to buy here and move there, do you think an de-humidifier (sorry, not sure about the right word) is useful there, most of all for my child? He sleeps every night here with an humidifier.

Thanks a lot, Joos! Good news... yes, the beach is very closed to tower 30, that's one of the reasons we like it.

Dear Ladies, About the interesting point that Mustard added about being careful choosing the tower to live in Porto Arabia, I have some questions: - Based in your experience, which are the best towers to live? Nice apartments, terrace, kitchen and maintenance. - I've seen some apartments to rent in tower 30, that seems to be newer and very nice (in the photos, of course). Do you know this tower? - Is Sabban Towers a very crowded area, I mean the swimming pool, kids zone and common areas? I like that towers, but always have the idea that they are 3 towers sharing only a pool... - And a curiosity... the pools have sea water or normal one? Thanks for your help as usual and have a nice day! Kind regards from Madrid.

I think the closest nursery to the Pearl is Starfish lane kids 2 (http://www.starfishlanekids.com/contact-and-maps-slk2.html). It's not British, but Australian, don't know if it's a problem for you...

Chizz, thanks a lot for your reply and explanations, now it's clear for me the alcohol issue on the Pearl. May I ask you in which tower do you live in Porto Arabia?

Thanks very much, LadyD, for your feedback and advices. I don't understand very well what you say about The Pearl is an alcohol-free zone... I thought that alcohol was forbidden in Qatar, except in one or two authorized and restricted shops... Do you have any info about my questions related to Viva Bahriya and Medina Centrale? Thanks again, and hope everything will be ok...

Dear all, I wrote a post last month about our imminent moving from Spain to Doha... it seems to be not so imminent, as negotiations still not finished, but I continue planning and learning as much as I can. Reading you all is a fantastic help for me! As we have decided to live in The Pearl, now I need some info from anyone living there or knowing the zone: there is a Spinneys supermarket in Porto Arabia, and in their website they talk about the plan of opening another one in 2012 in Medina Centrale. Could you please tell me if it's open yet? I sent an email but never get response. We like Viva Bahriya (because of the beach, of course, and also because the apartments seems to be very nice ), and Medina Centrale is so much closer than Porto Arabia (I can't drive). Porto Arabia is full of life, but do you think Viva Bahriya is nice to live in, or still everything under construction and inhabitated?? Medina Centrale has many shops??? Sorry for these questions, but I can't find any practical info about living in different zones at The Pearl. Thanks again for your comments and advices. edited by Maradentro on 10/01/2013

Hi Maradentro, Don't worry at all about your kid not knowing English...all my spanish speaking friends have had the same concern and after the first week at the nursery...the concern is gone! Most of my friends have their kids at Star Fish, they have different locations, just make sure you pick the closest to your home and do the paperwork ASAP. They will have a waiting list as well! About driving, if you can organize your schedule you can move around with taxis. There are not enough taxis in Doha, so you really need to book them in advance. You can totally find an apartment at the Pearl with your budget. Take a look at coreo.com (Mark is the best IMHO) or propertyfinder.com. Porto Arabia should be the place for you because of the no car situation, however in Viva Barhiya buildings have direct access to the beach... We are originally from Venezuela and have been happy here for the last four years. It is not an easy place to live in but it has some benefits! For instance, the friends you can make...you will see how friendly is everyone here... If you need more info or want to write me in spanish, please do so, I will happy to answer your questions. Email nlds72 at hotmail dot com Good luck! Maite, I found the web, it's mycoreo.com Gracias.

Yes I live in Porto Arabia tower 8b just behind spinneys we have a 2bed plus small maids room (only really big enough for a study) @ 12.5k a month so I'm sure you could find a 3 bed @ 16k Thank you, Mustard. I will search in Porto Arabia, seems to be the right place for us!

Nice to meet you, Maite! Thanks for your advices, I will try in Star Fish as you suggest. I have tried also to have a look at coreo.com, but it seems that don't exist the website, maybe has another name? Viva Bahriya was our first option, because of the beach access as you say, and also because we thought our budget was not enough for Porto Arabia. I definitely will write you in Spanish, as soon as the moving to Doha is confirmed (still finishing negotiations)... because I will have lots of questions for sure! I hope not to disturb...;) Thanks again and have a nice life in Qatar, you and all the expatwomen!

Thanks very much, kimmc3, for your kind advice. I've been looking at the website, and it seems to be a very nice school. My husband employer is paying the fees, so should be no problem. I will try to get an admission in a nice nursery (do you know any?) until next September, and then formalize the admission in Compass, if possible. Thanks again!

Thanks very much for your replies! - Mustard, where do you live exactly on the Pearl? Porto Arabia? Do you think we have enough budget (16k) to rent an apartment there? I'm happy to hear that there is an small supermarket, at least! - kimmc3, could you please tell me the name of the school you mention (for non-native English speakers) in order I can arrange it with enough time? Thanks again! Wishing to hear another opinions and experiences, please! Thanks for the help!

Dear Ladies, We are a Spanish marriage with one 2,5 yrs old boy. Surely (still finishing negotiations) we will move to Doha in a few months. I'm very happy about this opportunity, but have several concerns and need your expert advices... - My child will be 3 yrs in June, so (as I read) should be able to start school in next September. He speaks Spanish almost perfectly, but he doesn't speak English at all, so I'm really scared about his experience... and really don't know if he can be rejected in many schools for this reason. Most of you are British or American, so don't have this problem. But surely you can share with me similar experiences with some friends or neighbors... Any recommendations for school (or even nurseries, if it's easier... maybe he can attend the nursery, learn some English and after a couple of years, go to school..). I'm quite confused and very concern about this. - I can't drive. I hate driving, even I feel very nervous when my husband drives... that's life and is not easy to change at a certain age (I'm 42). In Madrid I don't have any problem: I love walking, also the subway and bus service is wonderful... and you always have a taxi available just in case. But I know that Doha is not that way... people usually don't walk, it's hot, long distances, no good bus service... So, what's the best option for me? I don't mind to have a chauffeur (I'm not going to hire a maid, so I can afford the chauffeur instead) but... if I stay at home, what is he going to do in the meanwhile? sitting watching TV? sitting on his car? It's a strange situation... :( Another option is, every time I need to move, phone to a trustable taxi service, or private car service. Do you think is better option? - We love sea, and beach. Probably this is going to be the only opportunity to live close to it in our life, so we are thinking about renting a 3b apartment in The Pearl. Our budget is max 16K. I had a look to some webs offering apartments in Qanat Quartier (very very nice apartments, but no outdoor pool and not many people living there, as I read here) and Viva Bahriya, which is more expensive. Is The Pearl a nice place? Or still developing and there is nothing there? Is it possible to walk there (I probably must change my mind... but still thinking is possible to buy usual goods in a small shop or supermarket around the corner without driving to a mall ). Is it possible in the Pearl... or in Doha? These are my main concerns... most of all, our kid adaptation and hapiness... I'd like to hear your opinions and experiences. Thanks very much for your wonderful web, and for sharing all your knowledge.
