do you want an isolated class? like piano/instrument or a group class, like musical theatre etc. Does he like taking group lessons? interact with other children of his age happily?

Yes, the turn out exploded this year! They are moving it to the restaurant, and lawns next year, so space wont be an issue. It still, was fantastic value for money, and the kids really enjoyed the music, magic and food.

i got lucky bought and sold three of my properties. The only property i still own right now is a studio in Discovery Gardens, which has already been almost fully paid for by the tenant who has been there five years. I too was temped to buy again, as rental prices ARE going up, and the same evil attitude of agents is creeping in. Big numbers for properties are being thrown around. But I simply would not buy in dubai again, even if it means that i live in sharjah to find affordable rentals. The surcharges are simply too much, even for Discovery Gardens, the service charges are around 8000 per year for a studio!

Hi Ladies! I would appreciate much if you could share your knowledge/experience on the following: *Living in International City(any cluster) *From International City, if I don't drive, what is the best way to get to any metro station? TIA:) Sorry ive never lived in IC, but i think it is excellent value for money. The closest metro is Rashidiya, and you can access that only by the bus that goes through IC, DSO and Academic city, no 365. (i might be wrong)

i've recently advertised for a position for my business too, as 'female only', as my business is a children's activity, and i only want a female on the premises. By advertising Female only, this filters out the THOUSANDS of resumes from coming into your inbox via dubizzle. of course, there also are the several men who still respond anyway, only to prove that they really didnt read the ad closely.

there are a few clinics, who will do it in dubai without appointment and for a huge fee. Please dont be fooled that it is confidential, as if you are positive, you will be detained until the authorities take over. If you are unsure of your status, or feel you have been at risk, then best to exit the country and do it outside.

Just for info - if you have a FZE trade license technically you can only do work within that free zone unless you register with the DED in Dubai but if you was going to do that then you might as set up an LLC company in the first place. You're right babyrat, but this is probably the most misunderstood rule in Dubai! there are THOUSANDS of people on freezone visas, who merrily go about doing business in dubai, at homes, at other venues, and whatnot...but technically they can only work in the specific freezone...

mrswhippy[/b'>'>Clearly you've never been on a Sarf London council estate, MrsWhippy :D Lol; sorry MotorCity looks like streatham council estates Hey I lived in Streatham for a short while! On a leafy Victorian terraced street I will have you know! OK so I nearly got mugged by Tooting Bec Common and there were more fried chicken shops than you could shake a stick at but there WAS a Waitrose and an Organic Farmers Market 10 mins down the road in Balham.... South London on the whole is great BUT Motor City Looks like a south london council estate..... http://www.motorcity.ae/zoom_pic.asp?pic=uptown-zoom-12.jpg http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property-history/flat-64/dumbarton-court/brixton-hill/london/sw2-5lw/12595141 I repeat, you've never been to a Sarf London council estate, and TDB, a Victorian terraced house in St. Reatham is hardly the same as a council estate anywhere :D Actually the pic i posted is the outside of a block of council flats in Brixton hill - not sure how Brixton is not south london and blocks of council flats isn't a council estate... ..and your point is......?

having piano lessons for children without any progress can be very frustrating! Before you change the teacher, perhaps do explore why the child isn't progressing. [b'>Is the child practicing everyday[/b'>? Or she doesnt understand the teacher's accent? The teacher-pupil relationship is a very personal one, the same teacher may get outstanding results from one child, and dismal progress with another. Also please don't be governed by music exams, as they are certainly not the truest gauge to a child's music ability. I can understand if the child is not ready for the Nov exam, as it doesn't really work for most children due to the long summer break. Piano lessons at home also are not effective, they are brilliantly convenient for mums, but in the long run, the home environment is not ideal for the child.

No, there are enzymes that you need to thrive which are only found in meat. [b'>The worst diet for you is a a vegan one[/b'>, closely followed by vegetarian; you can survive on this but you will not thrive. This is the stupidest thing ive read today. i'm vegan by choice. And ever since i stopped meat and dairy four years ago, ive never felt or looked better. Some people's bodies actually can cope with eating meat and dairy. Mine cant. Everything that used to be wrong with me, bad skin, bloating, overweight, lethargy, tiredness, magically has gone, and the only thing ive changed is my diet.

FIrst of all congratulations to your daughter in graduating and finishing her probation! This is a very trying and testing time, new job, shift sleeping patterns, THOUSANDs of passengers in the past six months, new country etc.. good on you for flying in for her graduation, it is a great afternoon, where they share some stories, kudos etc.. i think guests have a refreshment area after. You need to be a little formally dressed, i know there are people from the grooming dept to ensure that you are appropriately dressed, shoulders covered etc. Anything smart/formal would do. January is a delightful time to be in dubai, perhaps even a little chilly!

Try the furniture shops in karama. For sure you will get something there. Or try Pinky Furniture. http://pinkyfurnitureuae.com/ pinky furniture is the best for Indian styled wooden furniture. They even have a warehouse in sharjah if you want more options. Its very close to DAA in Barsha. PS. They do a great discount for Emirates Cabin Crew, (Or used to?)

Irooni, my children go to the CMA in the Gold and Diamond Park which is good but I think they've got a long waiting list. I've heard great things about The Music Box which is based in DSO, so handy for you. One of my dd's classmates has been taught by the director Yousef and she's doing really well. If you are familiar with the Emirates Literature Festival, Yousef has written the theme songs for the last few years: choirs from various schools perform the theme song to open the festival. I still hum along to the theme from a chouple of years ago as it was really catchy! http://www.yousefandthemusicbox.com/ There was a thread with some very good feedback on them recently, the school's direct contacts are; www.facebook.com/themusicboxdubai 04 3922646 [email protected]

If you want to open a business here or anywhere else, it needs to be something you are completely passionate about, thoroughly knowledgable about, and highly experienced in. You will need to live and breathe it all day, every day, as least to get started. You will face immense obstacles and bureaocracy, more than you could imagine. If you are asking for ideas and suggestions on here, meaning you don't know what kind of business to open, are you sure this is the right thing for you to do? Best of luck, whichever direction you follow. edited by Sue R on 05/08/2012 Sue is spot on here, If you want to open your own business, you pretty much should know what you want to do. It is something that you LOVE doing, you eat, breathe, sleep this activity/service. In fact, people are crazy to pay you to do it, cos you would be doing it anyway! The red-tape, paperwork and waiting is killing when opening a business in dubai, so you really really really need to be hands on, and in love with what you are going to do.

Im doing this right now. ive rented out my apartment directly, and in two days, will be meeting my tenant who is now in her fourth year at the apartment. Ive always done it myself, and this is the first ive ever heard of a rule where you MUST have agents. i went to a typing centre in karama, and got them to do it, cost me 15 dhirams. It is upto the tenant whether she want to register the contract with RERA or not, we've never done it so far.

Yes, it was really freaky. Saw so many near misses from my window, with LARGE metal sheets that had blown off building exteriors and were flying about like scraps of paper at the Cedre roundabout. HUGE tall construction signs fell down. lightbulbs from lamp posts near cedre just crumbled with the force of the wind.

. I really dont know why people expect so much from an airline? The purpose of which is simply to transport you from A to B. because of the costs of the flights. If I pay double the fare of another airline I expect more than 'simple transport' I think Emirates' fares are justified with their product, the IFE (best in the world for the last ten year?) their one-stop fantastic connections, one really cannot get better connections timewise, free limo on both ends in biz, skywards, lounges (i admit that the dubai lounge is tacky), but EK lounges in other countries are excellent..they know this too, and also have confidence that people will mostly choose Emirates over other airlines. As already pointed out by some in this thread, people still ALWAYS fly emirates, even after repeat disappointments. When you weigh it all in, EK is still ahead.

Emirates is always compared to how it was in the 90's, but a lot has changed that adds to it. The category of people who used to fly has also changed, people fly many times a year, and it is no longer just a one off thing. I really dont know why people expect so much from an airline? The purpose of which is simply to transport you from A to B. Security at airports has increased so much, the drive to the airport, packing, checking in etc...by the time youre actually in your seat, youre certainly worse for wear. Now i can only imagine crew dealing with around 400 such people, on a daily basis, so some of them must have lost their charm over time. But most are great, and competent. They give you meals and clear them away. I dont expect them to smile at me and talk to me all the time, as i usually mind my own business, read a book, work, or watch the fab IFE. Ps. i think Emirates is still the best around :) Got upgraded to First in march!

If you need a POA to use in Dubai, then get it from Dubai Courts. It is VERY VERY easy to use, need both people, and their passports. Get a POA typed in Arabic and english from any typing centre, and then go and get it stamped at the courts. i went to the police station near the tasjeel near MOE, i think 250 aed, and they give you two copies.

if youre looking at THAT short term, like a week or so, then DEWA needs to be in your name, are you registered at DEWA as landlord? You need to do that first, and get the DEWA hooked up, 1000 aed deposit, title deed, and the ac number, the number on the little black chip outside the door. Most typing centres have the template ready. the tenant can register the tenancy contract at empost now too. But IMHO, i dont think it will be worth gettting a tenancy contract and registering etc, for just a week long rental

i rent out my own property, and its v simple to do. 1. Find tenant who you like, by advertising or listing with agencies or word of mouth, and agree on rate. 2. Go to any typing centre and make a tenancy contract with your terms. it is a standard blue paper contract. 3. take cheques from tenant and sign. 4. the tenant can then take the contract and register it herself. Ps. It maybe a little more to manage, if you're doing short term rentals, as you will need to advertise and attract that many more tenants as opposed to just one a year (who might just stay put for years)

This is a tough one. But ive bought a business over before, and also started my own. It does take a lot of work, and if youve put in so much effort into it, and is a labour of love, then it is very difficult to find someone like minded, who will care for it as much as you do. Two years is a long time, and what is a brilliant business now, can very easily become a bad one. unless i found someone who i can absolutely trust, like family etc. i would get it evaluated, and sell. You now know how to set up etc, you can always do it again. Besides, then you are not under pressure to come back, and dont have to constantly worry how it is doing.
