Just finished the same discussion around Income Tax in New Zealand ... Being a Kiwi, I understand that to be a New Zealand Tax Resident you need to fall into 1 of 2 categories, 1. The 183 day test - you are in New Zealand for more than 183 days in any given tax year. 2. Domicile Test: This test is defined under New Zealand Case law as being "Where you live", (although Australian Case law is far more detailed - New Zealand Cases have followed the same line) The factors considered in this will be dependants, abode and likelihood to return. For example "New Zealanders under a "FIXED TERM" contract in Qatar, with a wife and family back in New Zealand - will be deemed a Tax resident - the Contract term - denotes the likelihood to return, the Family, Motivation to Return and having a house in NZ - somewhere to return to .... Thus the reverse applies - if you are in Qatar, your family is here, and you have an "OPEN" Contract with your company that is indefinite then you are not a Tax Resident

My husband saw an ENT specialist last night at Al Ahli. His ear gets blocked regularly and needs draining otherwise he can't hear a thing. We went to the emergency dept first but they referred us upstairs to the ENT specialist. My husband said the guy he saw was probably the best he's seen so far and very efficient too. I think if your father has a health card or insurance card then it would only cost about QAR45 to see the specialist.

Can anyone recommend a 2bdrm serviced apartment in Westbay. Our budget is 18,000. If anyone can advise what the Kempinski is like it would be greatly appreciated.

Ooredoo does as they have fibre. Plus the national carrier always tends to have the best connections. Vodafone has to rent their connections second hand off another provider so their coverage never reaches most places in Doha.

Can anyone help with suggestions. We have 2 weeks in July and have our 2 daughters flying in from NZ. Understanding its the hottest time of the year here and also the summer holidays BUT wondered if anyone could suggest where we could spend 2 weeks. Is London or Paris a terrible time to go during July. Open to any suggestions, Ive just spent a whole day researching choices until my head hurt and still none the wiser. Anyone been to any resorts as well in the area. as you can tell Im open to anything really..... sigh......

Hi Ladies, I was wondering if there are any good health food stores in Dubai. Not the ones that sell vitamins and protein but where i can find oils, flour etc. A friend of mine will be visiting and she has asked if I know where to get the following: - olive leaf extract in liquid form - cold-pressed extra virgin linseed (aka flaxseed) oil - good quality powdered vege and chicken stock, without all the nasties. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!!

We thought Doha would be bad for her asthma but the year she spent here was the first time in 10 years she was known to be a normal asthmatic and her amazing specialist at Al Ahli was the first specialist to get her off all her steroids. I think she only had one episode in hospital here and that was only because she had been traveling and got a cold. Dubai is a lot closer and doable for us plus the climate is similar to here.

Ok thanks for the advice everyone, I dont feel so hopeless now. Do feral cats attack people??? Only asking because the mother cat is stalking me and hissing every time I go out to feed her and get in my car. It scares the living daylights out of me!!

Thanks Sandicane but unfortunately QAWS is closing down. Have tried Cats in Qatar but no reply. I think in general because there are a lot of animals out there needing to be rehomed no one is willing to take on a mother and her kittens. THanks for the advice lalala, you were right its been a struggle to find anyone who will take them.

I was supposed to be cooking Christmas lunch for the family but have been struck down for the last 2 days with migraines so as a last ditch we thought it was safer to book in for Christmas Day at a hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions of somewhere that wont break the bank and wont be over crowded like the 4 Seasons usually is. We dont mind paying a bit just dont want the crazy crowds.

My husband uses the guy at City Centre. Im not sure what the store is called but they are located on the same level as the Marriott/ Renaissance entrance. I think there is a CAT store and it is on the floor under the movie theatres. Its a shop that has mens suits/shirts and materials inside. I also remember seeing on the forum a few weeks ago about a guy that will come to your house to do simple sewing jobs. Might pay to scroll back a bit to find it.

Have asked before but wondered if anyone knew anyone who can fix my dining room chairs. I tried a guy through one of the guards on the compound but he did a terrible job on the one i gave him. I have 5 out of 8 wobbly chairs that need mending before they break beyond repair.

My inlaws are in for a few days and I would like to treat them to a few spa sessions at the Sharq. Does anyone have any recommendations for any of the treatments there? My father n law is partial to a few deep tissue massages, we paid for one in Dubai for a pretty penny and he said it wasn't very good so if anyone knows anything for that would greatly appreciate it too.

I went on the first day and walked around in 30 minutes. It caters mostly to arabic cultures and what i found available to western tastes you could readily get at Souk Wakif our any of the other souks. You had to bargain hard for most products there.

I have JoJo for my trainer too and agree with sleepless50 he's a great trainer. The great thing with JoJo is that he is also clued up with physio stuff so he makes sure you do the exercise correctly and if you have any past injuries he knows the right exercises to repair or make it stronger. The other plus side is he gives you the best cool down stretch!

Would like to avoid having to fly back to Dubai or Bahrain to pick up a sail! I heard through the grapevine that you could get them made, unfortunately I can't remember who said it or which souk they said make them. Was hoping someone on the fourth might know. If all else fails I will have to shell out the big bucks and get a cantilever umbrella from home centre.

I have the same credit card and have used it outside of Qatar BUT .......sometimes it can't be used at certain stores. We have had it declined and yet there are more than enough funds on the card. Dubai duty free it doesn't work no matter how many times they swipe it again. It can be embarrassing and it pays to have a backup non qatari credit card. We have just returned from a vacation and. It would decline at one store and work just fine in the next. I gave up and would save myself the embarrassment and take out cash from the ATM instead. I'm not sure about the fee side of things.
