The accord is a nice car. If you can find an Accord Crosstour then you both could win. It is styled very much like a BMW X6 and it is quite roomie. I owned one in the US and hauled my grandbaby, daughter, and all their stuff around with no issues. Best of luck! Thanks FLgirl, I will check it :-)

Hi ladies, I am confused and can't make my mind which car to buy. Can you please help me with your suggestions. We are a family of 4 (with a baby and toddler ), we may have a nanny as well. I am more into the sedan & my hubby has 4*4. What i need is a car with big salon, trunk which can hold groceries, stroller and scooter. We set a budget of 80k aed for a certified pre-owned car. We are thinking of Honda accord and passant so far

Patchwork, I had to cancel a school choice which we already registered in because it is 42km away from where I live. And it wouldn't be a nice journey for my 3 years old. Just check the map and the distance as it is an important factor. There are new schools as gems wellington alkhail, gems international alkhail, safa community which may be closer

Same concern:( Especially if it is a 3 years old kid as in my situation A 3 year old should not be on a school bus at all. Im surprised there are schools that allow this so young. Appletiser, yeah true.

Regarding Repton The 1500 AED ( 500 registration fees+ 1000 assessment fees ) You can go to the tour without paying that sum of money. Check the school facilities and how do you feel about it. Or You can pay registration fees and ask to postpone the assessment if you want to take your time

I have a friend whose child goes to the school. She is very happy as the class sizes in the school are small and so her kid gets complete attention of the teacher. Why don't you check their Facebook Page as well, I'm sure you can find useful information on it. Thanks SueDawn, I've been to the school itself. Kind of cozy school, only one class operating with few kids in FS2. I am not sure if it's a good indication or not. That's why I am looking for parens' feedback However the classes are bright and clean:)

Dear working moms, We are planning to move to Dubai and my 3 years old is going to Repton. We would really like to live close to the school but the areas we liked are quite far. We are thinking about moving to Victory Heights but as we are both working wanted to ask working moms & dads who live in Victory Heights and send kids to Repton, how is it working out for you? Thanks, Valentina Dear Valentina, Did you enroll ur LO to repton's bus service ? My son is same age and would like to know if they offer bus service for early years

:-) Actually we went first to Wellington silicon Oasis first and got my child on waiting list, I am not sure he would be accepted :-( they said that all offers were sent out to parents and 30+ are on waiting list. They advised to check first point as it's 5 minutes drive. It took us more time as we got lost. But it's not far from silicon oasis

Hello everyone and good afternoon, I am new to expatwoman and I need your advice. I am pregnant, in week 34 now. My doctor just told me that she is traveling in November and she needs to transfer me to Dr. Samah in Medcare. I was supposed to deliver in City Hospital with my Doctor, but now that she's traveling she is advising me to go to Medcare with Dr. Samah. I have asked around about Medcare, people said it's an Ok hospital but none of the ladies I discussed with had a good experience. They give you a sharing room with other people, which will not give you enough peace to sleep after long hours of labour. Can you give me your opinion about both the hospital and Dr. Samah. Thank you Dear jogee My friend is pregnant, due in january 2015 and followed up with Dr. Samah. She says that she is good and she likes her, but I have a different opinion about the gynecologist for couple of reasons although I don't follow up with her. 1- she didn't prescribe iron supplement for my friend, so she ended up having anemia (7 months pregnant now). 2- my friend had a planned ultrasound with her and during the ultrasound, my friend asked her if the baby's head is big as his father ( kind of joking with her husband during the scan )Gyn. Replied yes iit's bigger than it should be. And that she can have early delivery. So if my friend hadn't asked she wouldn't know. In the end my friend changed her birth plan and decided to give birth back home.

I don't think the problem is about treating your maid equally. Or western families treating maids better and spoiling them. It's about maid personality and cultural difference. They were brought up in poor conditions, once they step in your home and see the luxury you r living in, they start to compare and most of them if well treated by their employers they start taking advantage. I think There must be border lines and firmness. For example: My mum, a middle eastern ( Arab &non gcc) for the last 15 years has been using domestic help. She treats maids equally. She would sit and eat breakfast, lunch together. Even watch tv together. She pays good salaries and would try to help them out if one is getting married( she would buy her a lot of households, etc...) Maids wouldn't work more than 7hrs a day. Maids would take all vacations off and a lot of benefits. When I see her with any maid I feel they are friends. Not an employer and employee. The outcome, mum has been stolen by most of the maids. All of them taking advantage on her. Mummy believes we are all equal even if a maid and doesn't like to put boundaries. She ends up firing them when she discovers theft, and start looking for a new one to spoil :)

Hi, I went through an old thread for which buildings to avoid in marina. And found DEC towers as one of them. I saw 2 apartments in both towers and seemed ok, not a fancy tower but it's good. Can u plz share your experience regarding this tower. If anybody faced maintenance problems or any other issues.

It's awful :( I live in the marina and DS's nursery is in JBR. I just have to cross the bridge. It's very unsafe to cross the road with a pram. No signals, loaders, heavy trucks cars are on the road while pedestrians crossing. It's chaos unfortunately

Hi, we went last night - I parked in the DWTC main car park - cost AED20 which I didn't think was too bad as it was really easy to walk down into the complex. My friend parked in the outside parking on the other side of 2nd Zaabel Road which was free parking (just cross the bridge) - both of which are sign posted for 'Disney on Ice' parking when you enter 2nd Zaabel Road. I didn't notice the restaurants close, everything was all pretty busy until late (we had Burger Fuel before going in). They have hot dogs and chicken shawarma, drinks etc inside the venue. The show was amazing - let me know if you want to know anything else Do u think I need to bring jacket for my LO ? Is it cold inside

Kings (1st choice), they get the best ratings from KHDA inspectors (who initially based their evaluations on BC schools). Safa gets good reviews from parents and students, nice campus. Jumeira Primary School (Gems BC) gets favorable reviews and their campus is nice. Jumeira Baccalaureate School follows National Curriculum for England and IPC (BC adapted for expat Brits) in the primary years (Pre K to Grade 4) and they are very structured in their learning outcomes, etc. Parents have mixed reviews, but most students look happy. SABIS system may be an option at their Dubai branch. They got a new headmaster in Sept 2014 who is trying to make the school "less of a prison", though you may need to give your child additional tuition in English composition (factual and creative writing), which is weak in the SABIS curriculum. DESS parents seem happy with academics, particularly the Lebanese parents I meet at karate class. Thanks apricot :) I thought that the SABIS system was strong academically even in English. A friend mentioned that her son was able to read well in KG2, SABIS system Sorry, but that's depends on the child and not as much on school and the sistem. My son just started KG2 in new GEMS school (IB system) and his reading is very good. You can easily compare with reading in grade 1 or even grade 2. They started at the end of the KG1, but most of his classmates still don't read. Some of them still don't know all letters. So there is no pressure on kids, they just follow the child's development and desire. Hooe1more I totally agree wiz u it depends on the child.

I am looking for a school which concentrates more on the academic side but doesn't ignore the activities part. I wonder which schools i need to start looking at My daughter has just started at Gems Silicon Oasis, we removed her from JBS as they seemed to be lacking on so much. They did not encourage kids to do after school activities at all and what they had was very limited as well it seem kids go home when the teachers felt like it. She is so happy at Gems, have been given assignments in her first week lol and has come home wanting to do so many things after school which I just think is great as this makes her socialise more with other kids. They have recently be given 'outstanding' too. As its a new school dont think the waiting list is too long. Is tough decision though choosing school here, good luck ROSIE2121 Good decision. I heard positive feedback on this school from my friends:) their kids liked it and even the parents. But I didn't know before that gems silicon oasis is rated as outstanding. I know that Wellington international on sheikh zayed is the outstanding one.

Repton and Foremarke are the same thing. You should google them VERY carefully first... There are other academic British schools. Some Gems schools very good by all accounts Nord Anglia excellent though you'll be lucky to get a place Kings excellent in primary though looks like the new places will be very delayed. Thanks lovingthesun:) I am on my hunt for schools now

Guinness2, Yes English isn't my first language:) Children are like a sponge in early years, they can learn anything. We face a problem when we return to our country ( English becomes their 1st language ) so they don't like to speak our language. I am not afraid of the challenge you mentioned. Not all the kids on British& American schools are British or Americans.
