Hey Travelmom, I had 10 girls come once and they enjoyed the below:- - zero gravity brunch (as it can be a whole day party and pool/beachaccess) - desert safari a must for the new visitors (an evening one) - hire a boat for 3 hours (sunset time) - burj khalifa, miracle garden, global village - 1 day in Abu Dhabi (yas island/ferrari world, sea world, grand mosque, emirates palace). Also, maybe give them a free day so they can choose what they want to do. As for hotels if you want something cheap and cheerful probably Rove Dubai Mall would be good. Is 5/10 minutes walk from the mall. Hope the above helps. :)

Motor City is a lovely place and with the new addition of the First Avenue Mall, it's really got a lot of options and things to do now... i don't live in MC but know the area well, and the gated co...
Hi There, I would highly recommend Motor City. It is a lovely place to live. Restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, health clinics and many more will all be on your door steps. It is also situated near Umm Suqeim, Hessa Street and the main highways. The prices are however a little high, alternatively, i would recommend Sport City which is only a couple of minutes away with nearby schools and shops. Ive lived in Sport City and really like the area. Hope this helps, if you need more info feel free to ask. :).

You are definitely not being miserable. i feel exactly the same. I've just had a set of visitors and the next are due in less then 2 weeks, it's so tiring and financially draining. i am definitely thinking of putting a stop to it.

I was in transit in Jeddah Airport last year and i had the same question, i did have an abaya on me just in case i had to wear it but you don't need too. As long as you are inside the airport and dress modestly then you should be fine.

Thank you for all the feedback ladies! I'm definitely looking at Motor City and Sports City now as it seems to be the next best place :) good luck with the decision. i live in sport city its lovely but i do have to suggest you go around and have a look at a few places first. it is still like a building site and more works to be done, this does not bother me and i actually love the area now but i know a few people that dont. If you need anything feel free to ask. :)

I would say some where in Kent (after all it is known to be the garden of UK), its in the South East. Loads of country sides, close to London and Gatwick Airport, Eurotunnel and with no time you are in Europe. Lived there over 15 years and its lovely. But i do agree with the comments above, if the relatives and family are in a certain area of UK then he might as well try to relocate to be near them. Best of luck with whatever he decides and happy retirement. :)

Has anyone seen any around. I don't like the ones in IKEA and they aren't big enough for my collection :) Why dont you try Dragon Mall (International City). My friend said she got a couple of things from there and were alright! I used to go there a lot but had never seen any ( I wasn't looking though) Thank you :) Have a look on Groupon!! I saw an offer yesterday and thought of you! hahahah :)

I am so frustrated! 10 interviews, and either they don't come back to you ever, or jobs are going to someone else. What is it? Anyone else experience this? I have 15 years experience in HR in the UK & UAE& Qatar. Does anyone know whats going on? I have been looking for 1 year now! Thanks for listening to my rant.... I feel your pain... exactly in the same position for the last year and a half! It has bee terrible to the point that i wanted to leave Dubai and return back to UK! I have tried everything and anything, recruitment agencies, online, via connections. It seems in this part of the world loyalty isnt a big deal. You take the time and make the effort to go to the interview and they dont even bother to let you know either way! However, with saying all the above.... i am still hopeful. And i refuse to give up. You need to do the same and keep on trying, fingers crossed something will come up. Maybe go to DAFZA or JAFZA or JLT freezone they have directory for the companies and that way you can approach British/Western companies directly. Good luck with everything and if you want to rant..... let me know, we can rant together looool! :)

I need some advice. I need to move apartments in the next couple of months and I'm looking at possible locations. I was thinking of moving to either Silicon Oasis or Motor City. Can anyone in Motor City tell me if the cars from the autodrome make a lot of noise - and is it constant or only a couple of weekends a year etc? I've heard from a couple of people who know people living there and they said that the noise from the cars can be quite bad. Any help is appreciated. Hi there, I live in Sport City and yes i can hear the noise from there. Althought, its not that often at all and Motor city makes up for being nice with loads of shops and restaurants. Probably way nicer then Silicon Oasis. Good luck with the move.

Its ridiculous. I wish my contract covered housing rather than education... or both! There are so many developments being handed over at the end of this year 3 new ones in The Greens Around 20 in Sports City Tecom has 2 or 3 and there are a few at the Marina. It is a case of supply and demand and there soon will be huge supply therefore rents will dip slightly but I don't think we will see it until the end of the year. I have just got a new place for AED80,000, two months ago they were advertising for AED90-95000. I used to live in Marina and the prices were crazy. I now live in Sport City and i would recommend it. Its still being build up but its a nice area and quite. Motor City is 5 mins away with coffee's, restaurants, supermarkets and so on. I can give you the number of the agent that sorted my studio and you can discuss prices if you want. Good luck :) I am interested :) Sorry that was directed at me? As in you want the number? Just got a little confused ahaha

Hi, I have been offered a job working within the Emirates Group in Dubai. I will be looking to move from the UK to Dubai at the end of June. My workplace will be at the Emirates Headquarters building. My husband has also been offered a job and his workplace will be within the Dubai Silicon Oasis complex. I was wandering if anyone could suggest a nice location to live that would be easy to get to work for both of us and has plenty of ammenities. As I have a 6 yr old daughter we are looking at renting a 4-5 bedroom Villa (enough room for visitors). I also need to think about schooling. Does anyone have any suggestions for schooling that would be near a suggested area to live in. Many thanks Panini Hi, in regards to the accommodation look at Arabian Ranches. Some of my colleagues/friends live there with their kids and love it. I dont know anything about schools!!! Good luck with your move, you'll love UAE.

apologies if this has been asked before. Can a landlord increase the rent again this year. He increased last year and I am under the impression that he cannot increase again for another year, ie every 2 years. Can't make any sense of the rera web site and cannot find specific answer. Hi there, i was in the same situation at the beginning of the year as i was due to renew my contract for the 2nd year. The landlord asked to increase my rent by 10%. I checked on RERA and it said am not due. I called the Dubai Land Department and i have to say they were fantastic, they gave me all the do's and dont's. In my opinion check RERA and call the Land Department. [b'>I was told they cant increase rent in the first 2 years, irrelevant of whether they give you notice or not.[/b'> I then emailed the landlord and i said i will not pay the 10% and that is how i have been advised by the Land Department and RERA and he had nothing to say but apologies. Best of luck. That is interesting as we were told, along with countless others no doubt, that the 2 year no increase stopped a number of years ago. Now it is all dependent on the RERA calculator. I don't see anywhere in the rental laws that states you cannot increase for 2 years. That was the old 2007 law. The new one 2013 states it is as per the RC. If this was the case then why is the RC in place?? Only for people who have completed more than 2 years in a property. I think that whomever you spoke to may be giving conflicting advise to both tenants and LL edited by sarahlou123 on 01/04/2015 Dear ladies, I cant agree or disagree with the above. I didnt know a lot about this (as i was new in the country) and i was so close to agreeing the increase as i thought maybe its the done deal. I apologies if am incorrect but i was just saying what happened to me. As i mentioned before anyone should not agree with the landlord because they will rip you off, so best advice do your homework and call relevant departments. :)

what are you working as... if i may ask... maybe someone on here would know of a more challenging position you could apply for My previous experiences are in customer service/office admin management and also PA. Thank you HorizonMum :) Going down the lines of Office Manager/PA will give you the most financial income as opposed to customer service... Am on all the agencies and the sites inc. gulftalen, linkedin and so... Office manager i would love in both aspects. On the other hand am doing PA at the moment and has left such a bad taste in my mouth... and i cant picture doing the same. I know that all ppl and companies arent the same, but am scared ill be jumping from bad to worse, if you know what i mean!!!! Anyway, am quite a positive person so i havent given up yet, it was nice to get an opinion from other expats. thanks darling :)

Good morning Ladies, I need some advice please. I have been in Dubai over 2 years now and i am on my own. In the last year i haven't found it that easy, i am very unhappy at work and not in a great financial position either. I keep looking for a new job and not having any luck (over 1 year now). My question is, when do you say enough is enough? When shall you make that decision and return back to UK? I absolutely LOVE living here and i cant imagine to leave but on the other hand i feel that if i continue to be this unhappy at work and i don't find another job, am i just wasting my time trying and not achieve anything??? I would appreciate anyone can share their thoughts, opinions or if they have been through the same!!! Thank you so much :) Its a hard one, but only you will truly know when enough is enough. The fact that you are questioning that may mean your not quite ready to throw in the towel and leave Dubai just yet. Sounds like it is your job situation that you need to fix, are you registered with recruitment agencies? From personal experience, this is how you will get a job. Applying on Gulf Talent yourself got me nowhere even when I was qualified for the jobs, it made me think of if my application was even getting viewed or not... probably wasn't. Are you asking for feedback from all of the interviews you have been unsuccessful in? I know it is never nice to hear criticism, but sometimes we have to in order to better ourselves for future interviews. To make you feel better (hopefully), one interviewer that gave me feedback to the agency said that because at the end of the interview I asked if it was easy to get a taxi in the area, it showed lack of initiative... when in fact all I was doing was making polite conversation! What it showed me though was that I wouldn't want to work for a company like that anyway and instantly I felt better about not getting it. I think when you say are you wasting your time and not achieving anything is being a bit harsh on yourself. You wake up to lovely weather nearly every day, bright sunshine, and you can do alot of things that don't cost any/little money. You have achieved a better standard and quality of life for yourself. Seems like you just need to catch a break with your job situation... GeordieBird, You hit the nail on the head, off course am not ready to go. As i said previously, i love it here hence why i moved in the first place. Am not ready to throw it all in because i want to enjoy my time here, which unfortunately i haven't so far. God, i have tried every avenue there is in terms of finding a new job, i think its just my luck. I find Dubai works more in connections and i don't have a lot either. I agree i think the work has put me down in terms of confidence whether that is personally or professionally. Thank you for taking your time to send me your thoughts, much appreciated.

Hi Rosie, I have been there a few times and taken many guests there too. They have absolutely loved it, its a great place to spend an afternoon. You can buy many things for yourself or as gifts. If you have kids, they have loads of places where they can play. Often they have shows, water fountain and fire works. They open at 4pm until 12 midnight or 1am, i think. Mondays or tuesday they have family days only (not sure which so you will need to check). But overall i would recommend it!!! :)

OMG, you hit the nail on the head, that's what exactly am looking for. I have not had any appointments but i have spoken to a couple over the phone and i don't already like what they have to say. As you said i thought they'll do some in depth examinations and suggest a realistic solution that fits/suits my needs. I know of those companies, but i wasn't looking for weight loss purpose at such, its more about the vitamins and deficiencies, certain food don't react to well and so on. thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question!
