Schools generally start recruitment for the following years around January - however I would advise you to apply directly to schools as soon as possible. The best teachers are snapped up early in the year. I work in a school, not in HR, however we advertise heavily in TES. GEMS have a recruitment website - Google GEMS Education careers. Entry requirements will depend on your nationality, where you gained your degree/teaching quals and experience, and different curricula have different entry criteria. At our school teachers on an overseas package get housing, medical and two full places for two children within our group of schools. Good luck! Lovely to see another fellow Welsh lady Cymares! Thank you for your reply it has been most helpful. So do you suggest I send my CV and covering letter to schools now instead of waiting until January when they would usually advertise? I would like to have a good shot of getting a job, and value any tips to help me along the way. I have been teaching for almost 14 years with a short career break while my children were young.

I got my job in November but I'm still getting many recruitment emails so I wouldn't say it's too late at all. I don't think any schools give free places but they offer a reduced rate. I personally wouldn't bother sending CVs to schools, I would make sure that you have a LinkedIn account with the CV on it and connect to relevant schools through there. There are also many different recruitment websites and many of them also operate via LinkedIn. I don't know how well CVs are received if sent directly, it might work. I used teachanywhere who I found on LinkedIn and then started a profile. They were really helpful and actually called you to talk in person. I ended up finding a job through a GEMS recruitment fair (which I also saw on LinkedIn). There's also plenty advertised on TES as well. Hi Esmereldagreen, I have never used LinkedIn and wanted to ask if I attach my CV will everybody be able to see it or just the people I befriend, or can I be very specific and only allow schools to see it? Thanks Exactly as geordieexpat wrote! I got a template for a teaching CV from a website as I had never written a teaching one given that application forms are the norm here. If I remember correctly I actually registered with the GEMS website as well. Thanks Esmeraldagreen ?

You need to create a profile on LinkedIn and then people can find you if they know your name. Once you register the system will walk you through what you need to do. You can also look for people and companies and there is a job search function on there too. Thank you Geordie, I will give it a try.
