Hi LAcandy, I use to live in the northern suburbs of Melb. I can reccomend Essendon, Aberfeldie,Moonee Ponds great public transport, lovely parks loads of good schools in these areas also lovely eateries too ? These areas are older areas with a lot of renovated properties. Best bet is to have a look at both eastern and northern suburbs to be honest. I can tell you traffic is terrible that's why I loved living in this area. Good luck

Hi Schnuppi, I can't comment on NZ I have moved away from Melbourne as its not the city I remember lots of crime (look up Axep gang) hence I've moved up to Brisbane. Personally I would choose Adelaide over Sydney as its a relaxed city. It has great cafes, beaches, sporting, etc.. In the end it's up to you I hope my short reply helps. Good luck MM

Thanks for shedding a bit more light on things. I wouldn't worry too much about electrical goods as you can buy the same or very similar goods ( this is all dependant on your budget). I'd say bring a few things that make you feel happy ie pictures, small nick knacks , etc.. Try looking up second hand Dubai (UAE), dubizzle is a great site too, also have a look in the classifieds here. I loved my time here in the UAE both Dubai & Abu Dhabi, each emirate to me had a different feel (sorry I can't comment about Sharjah only that it's a dry emirate no grape) If this is your first expat posting, you'll find things different. My advice is patience, things at time happen very slowly. I've found you have to be direct asking questions (not in a rude way) and sometimes hubby will have to do simple things for you (frustrating yes). Bring a usb stick with passport pics and also a few printed (10 should be heaps). Get every certificate you have attested you'll need your full marriage certificate. Make sure your wills are upto date make sure you get it sharia compliment. Always have an emergency file (grab file important documents) and a good cash stash for emergencies if possible. The main thing I can offer as advice is don't shut yourself off from the world, it will be a shock to the system. Join coffee groups, look up different fb groups get out and explore. Hope this post helps, enjoy the journey

Hi Ami Just returned from my time in the UAE, I'd suggest taking things that will make you feel at home (so to say). What to take is the ultimate question! A few questions: Is the company paying for your goods to be shipped? (Both ways) Are you on a set employment contract or open ended? What type of accomodation do you anticipate securing? Reason why so many q's is you need to weigh up what's important to bring. There are many secondhand sites on fb, most of these items are relatively new as contracts are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. If you're taking your bed, the id suggest brining sheets to suit, as sizes are hard to match Aussie beds. I found for me Aussie foods are expensive there and some you can't get. I'm happy to try and answer any other questions you may have, I hope you enjoy the adventure ahead of you, as for me I'm happy being back in Oz Cheers Missy Moo

To be completely honest the cleaning of the villa & pool will be of a substandard level. You will want to give it another clean, it's just how things are here. As for the pool this will be a once off and you will be responsible for maintenance once you move in, so investigate how much it will cost you to maintain and how often the company will vist. Find out if the LL has a maintenance contract with a company as these places are not built to a very good standard in general. It's very normal to pay 2 chqs that's how things roll here. Hope I haven't put you off just trying to give you my honest feedback of life here bye: good luck ;)

We used MoveOne to bring my pup back to Oz, can highly reccomend these guys too. Just on a side note please make sure your pup has all its shots upto date and bloods if nesassary depending on what country you are moving to. The sooner you organise puppies move the less stressful leaving Dubai will be. All the luck with your move. My trip was only a short stay back in oz so I can't really help with your furniture shipping.

Definately in San Fran can suggest the usual things of cable cars, visiting Lombard St, the foreshore has so many things for young and old (plus some don't cost a thing even better), can hire bikes and ride over Golden Gate Bridge, there's an old fort under the bridge, pretty cool but it's a little off the track but not too far. Don't know if you're planning to drive to Vegas but a road trip down Highway One (the original coastal road) has fantastic places to stop along the way like Monterrey Bay (so nice). You can drive east thru Yosemite and Death Valley (highly recommend if you have time) Vegas, we didn't even scratch the surface there but I'm sure there is loads of things to do and see, some free things on the strip and walking thru hotels, now I wish I could go back! Hope some of my suggestions help have a great holiday bye:

Hiya Fr!zzy :) I live in JVC, I can only comment on Mirabella villas but the build quality here is terrible. There are really no facilities here, the roads are crazy dangerous and heaps of trucks to boot! You'll have a hike to get to Um Sequim from here. DH & I will be moving out of here as I don't feel safe here anymore, being followed when taking puppy for a walk isn't fun :( There are small parks here but I haven't used it for a while no grass for kids to play on, few play activity set but not much tbh. Best bet if you haven't is to come and have a look for yourself at different times. I wish I could be positive about being here in JVC as it is in a great area to get to so many places, rent was reasonable but now after 5 years it's not worth it, damage to cars, furniture (due to poor building even for dubai standars), also lots of people house sharing here, I could go on. I again I hate bagging the place but for me it's not worth it. Good luck with your search xx

Hi Annl, I live in JVC for 5 years and can tell you the build quality is terrible, doors & windows don't seal, land allocated as parks and pools being sold to recoupe lost monies in the estate losses, dangerous roads as they were not designed properly, cheap products used so they break down regularly, feeling unsafe to even take my dog for a walk fearing of being either hit by a car or followed, I could keep going the list is long. Short story we are moving cheap rent isn't worth this hassel, if you can afford it I would look a Emaar built properties they seem to be better built.

I wouldn't reccomend going anywhere up North as it will be the wet season (hot, humid, wet & strong chance of cyclones). You could easily drive up the North Coast or venture to Victoria. Two weeks is tight but doable, best to pick one area and explore there ?

DH asked S&S the same q. They don't have a mailbox in Australia but they will shop and ship if the store you buy from will deliver internationally. We looked at Country Road who deliver to Hong Kong for free, so we could get the stuff delivered to Hong Kong and then shop and ship it from there. We haven't tried it yet so not fully sure if it works.

Another idea apart from cleaning your filters is investing in a good air purifier, we have smokers next door and they also cook some pretty strong meals and it has cut down the smells so much so that they don't bother me anymore. Good luck hope you find a solution to your problem xx

Its awful but yes, the dirham used to stretch a lot more just a couple of years ago, it seems difficult for everyone else except the super rich expats now and there seem to be plenty of those around too, which makes for a strange co-existence. I'm not sure there are plenty of super rich expats, a lot of people live well above their means in Dubai (no savings, maxed up credit cards...) Fully agree have watched friends party and travel, live in nice places and now are struggling

hi Saffron_Parker :) I live in a joined villa and our neighbours smoke and it comes through our vents also :( We spoke to the guys at EMax and suggested a room himidifier/air filter, I was very sceptical and thought this won't work but it's proving me wrong. It wasn't cheap but I'm thinking of purchasing another one for upstairs as I'm that impressed with how it works ? Good luck hope you can find a solution to the cigarette smoke xx

Hi Wednesday Genius, Do you have a HR Dep or senior line manager that could have a chat and see how this new person is settling in with their new role. There could be many reasons as to why they may be looking at jobs, be it habit or they are unhappy. If you choose to be proactive and ask how the person is settling in, you're opening a door of communication. Or you could (depending on the size of your co.) send a group email to all staff regarding the use of internet for non employee activities, however this is not going to address this issue though. At the end of the day your company has paid I assume for their visa, etc... and you'll want to retain rather than look at replacement staff? Just my two cents :)

Thank you very much for your reply. I don't know the difference between Triangle and Circle, but I guess the Circle is better than the Triangle? I'll try to visit this area when I arrive in 2 weeks… Thanks again. What type of property are you looking at villa or apartment? Pretty sure all apartments have pools and small gyms, whereas most villas don't. Parks are slowly being finished, play equipment is being installed. I like JVC as I find it easy to get to various places. I can only suggest looking at their Facebook pages and asking more questions if you want :) good luck with your move to Dubai

To be totally honest njj pick one city as you will not get to see and enjoy your stay in oz if your planning on taking days off one to add to the other. I find it funny in a way how people think Oz isn't that big it's huge, not small like Ireland or the uk! Personally I can't speak for Sydney but MEL & Victiroa have lots to do and see. You can go to http://m.visitvictoria.com for info on Melbourne & Vic for some more ideas. Also you will need to factor in jetlag it's a pretty long flight to get here. At the end of the day it all comes down to how you like to travel and see things, some ppl like to just tick things off a list, whilst others want to enjoy and explore. Your choice but would really reccomended you choose one or the other for a great and memorable hol :) xx Website for events and things to do in Sydney too http://www.sydney.com

Hands up for another negative review. The girl was very good at the start no problems, however she slackened off very quickly and started doing her work well below par. Before I called the owner I did try and talk to the the girl (nicely as we are all human) and pointed out some of the issues and gave her plenty of chances. In the end I ended up calling the company to collect the girl half way into her shift as she had only cleaned 1 bedroom and bathroom which were empty, total of 1.5 hrs!!! When I rang them the owner had the audacity to tell me to buy the girl a watch!!! Yeah right!!! I'm yet to find a good maid service but I have to say hands down this co took first place for worst maid company IMO. Good luck in finding a good maid service ?

Ladies please be careful venturing down this road. I was a victim of an adoption that went horribly wrong. It was not the fact if losing money but having my heart ripped out and stomped on. Please be very wary of who you go through as we thought we had done all our homework and investigated as much as we could. We followed all the correct procedures (Haig Convention) and were burnt terribly. I don't want to go into this any more but don't believe everything you hear. It is still affecting me now, so much so I had to seek help back in my home country. Yes there are beautiful stories and I guess mine was one that wasn't. I wish you all the luck, please remember you don't necessarily need children to have a loving family xx

@ LadyBee I agree with you 100% my pup is there now and she has been visiting and staying with Woof for 2 and a bit years. I love the fact that my girl can be social and be a dog. Yes I treat her like a princes at home but when she sees the doors at Woof she forgets all about myself and hubby, to me that is a fantastic sign of a place where my girl feels safe and happy. Not all places are good but you have to look around and you can sense the vibe of the place too. We took our girl first for short visits during the day to see how she reacted to being away from home and I have to say Woof is her home away from home personally I can't speak more highly of Woof! :)

Fertility can be such a mystery. I would highly advise you that you both be tested. For men it's very easy to see how his boys are working. There could be many factors and I'm no expert, but we found out the hard way that my DH had the mumps when he was 18 (very bad case) and he never knew that it would make him infertile. Then again if all is good maybe some form of IVF may help fire up your oven. I wish you every luck that you both can have the family you wish for xx

There isn't very many facilities but it's slowly coming along with parks being built. There are 2 entries into JVC also checkout the Facebook page may help you :) There is construction around so be aware of extra noise. I guess that's why it's cheaper plus some of the build quality is questionable, but where isn't. Good luck :)

If there is any way you can wrap the bike in cardboard and deflate the tyres and try and make it as compact as possible you should be fine. I guess it also depends on the the type/style of bike. You could take the handlebars off and seat as well as the peddles and possibly pack them in you luggage that way you mainly have the frame and tyres together. hope that may give you some ideas to help bring your bike over :) x As I said bore also the 1st of Feb was what I was told re: golf clubs being added into your luggage and this was from first class check-in (not to sound like a snob) was just trying to be helpful. As I said I guess time will tell and if that's the case I'll find another way to travel with my clubs :)

Hi Ladies, Im looking to move to Jumeirah Village Circle in Jan. Has anyone got any advise or inside info on living in the area they can give, ie: good/bad buildings, coffee shops, taxi issues etc. Thanks Hi emmasv Have been here nearing 3 years and will be moving as the rents being asked for are no longer value for money. The build quality is not great at all we have had problems with windows where we have had to improvise to make them seal as best we can, including doors! We have A/C issues where we now know how to try and keep them working. We live in a villa and have to say the worst is all the stairs 3 levels. Traffic is dangerous here as more people move in and all the construction around there is no respect for other road users, there have been some nasty accidents here already. I like to walk my puppy and I'm grateful for the park we have now so at least I can walk somewhere safer, but there is no grass in these new parks. I don't have kids but the neighbours kiddies all play out the back, just glad I don't have to bath them as they would be filthy from playing in the sand! But at least they are socialising :) The good things are you won't be too far from Motor City, Marina,MOE and Dubai Mall. More deliveries are starting to come here but getting things delivered can be a nightmare as said earlier no street signs! Another positive is it's not to close to the high voltage power lines. At the end of the day it all depends on what you want and where you want to live, but you get what you pay for. Best of luck and Happy New Year

Also had a 6 month rental cheque bounce. If you e had that happen, you'd understand why a single cheque is preferred by Lls So what makes Dubai landlords so different to landlords in most other countries that they are unable to cope with monthly rent payments? If you were a LL in any country in the developed world, you'd be taking monthly rent payments, regardless of whether your tenant was an expat or a local. If you tried to enforce single-cheque payment, you'd be laughed at for your sheer cheek. The system of large lump sums paid in advance is a significant obstruction to the development and modernisation of the real estate market here. If you're not part of the solution - the solution being a general move towards monthly payments becoming the standard - then you're part of the problem. Completely agree rents do need to become monthly instead on 1 or 2 cheque payments. I recently had to go back to Oz and they tried that rubbish on me and I said is only pay monthly direct debit and they backed down, guess what I got a property! To me it's a complete joke to come up with so much money where both sides are not fully protected, yes it's not fair for a LL to deal with bounced chqs, but also tenants should be able to pay by direct debit. It's not right that someone is making interest of my money when a majority of LL's don't keep up with maintenance issues.
