The Hyatts here have really good rates and We had our wedding at the Ritz Carlton JBR end of November and paid for all food and drink and was a lot more reasonable than you would think!

Have you not paid off the debt in the last 6 years? Could you not pay it off and then travel? Were you on his Visa?

Whilst for the most part I agree that C4 and Union Co-op are cheaper, you have to be careful as sometimes they slip in some high prices. I nearly always get my fruit and veg in UC but last week, the stuff i normally get was more expensive than Spinneys!! (I know, I couldn't believe it either) I get dog food in Spinneys, Pork and kids food in the Organic shop on the 3rd weekend (20% off), Staples in C4 and Union Co-op for fresh stuff. We are 3 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 dogs and i think I spend about 2500 a month including 2 lots of nappies and dog food etc - we eat in 5 nights a week Do you include cleaning products and items like shampoos/toothpastes/etc. in here as well? My family of two spends about the same monthly and now I am thinking what I've been doing wrong. Yes, that includes everything You are 2 adults and you spend the same? seems a bit much - have a look at what is costing you so much - perhaps you buy all imported goods which can add up a lot. I tend to buy things that are on offer and if there is a good buy on washing powder, for example, then i will buy a few at once

I find it cheaper to order food from Cook A Box as they provide three meals for the week - this way I don't go to the supermarket so often. Everytime I 'pop' into a supermarket for one or two items I end up spending at least 300 AED so now I try not to go in. Might be cheaper because you avoid spontaneous purchases but at AED 100 or more for a meal for 4 people, I think that's a lot and you still have to have bits in your house for the recipes. I had a terrible experience with them also but even the other companies offering the same service....

Hi Ladies, My sister had her wedding dress tailor made and yesterday we saw the end result which is exactly the opposite of what we wanted. We had bought very expensive fabric and wanted an A-Line wedding dress...we got something else entirely. The tailor said they cannot alter the dress...the wedding is in the first week of September....does anybody know of any really good tailors who can remake the dress by patching it maybe? ...Please only recommend from personal experience as there is no time to try any tailors. TIA call Anne Rashid at the Bridal Room Jumierah or call Montexa in Satwa (owned by Anne) 04 349 4037 She made my dress from scratch. was perfect

Hello, Below headhunters are majorly for HR roles. Michael Page - Very credible but you need to have loads of patience with them as they have a large database of candidates. Frazer Jones - Very friendly consultants, can't say on how effective they are in getting you a job. Robert Halfe: They recruit strictly for HR roles, can't rate them yet. And ask him to use LinkedIn well. The very best to both of you. Robert Half are not strictly HR - I work in Finance and they call me regularly I would recommend he asks his friends and acquaintances in Dubai if they know of anything - it is usually the quickest way to get a job

I am a "City" fan too - had both mine there in 2013 and 2014 and neither were straight forward My 2nd had the cord round his neck and the staff were unbelievable - calm, methodical, my Dr was amazing (Dr Britt Clausson) and got him out quickly with no fuss (I didnt want a C section so she did everything to avoid it) and then my little blue baby was whisked off to ICU to get oxygen but he was back with me very quickly and was all fine after that. All staff were superb I picked City as it is next to the Blood Bank at Latifa which is important to me in case of emergency

I'm sorry GE :( Thanks Daza. This is one of the reasons I get so wound up about things like this. Yes we would all like to do everything possible for our babies, but as far as I was concerned the occasional cigarette did me more good than bad. I agree with you GE - The only time I had high blood pressure and my unborn child was at risk was when I was trying to go cold turkey on the smoking. In the end, the Dr told me that if I can keep it less than 3 a day then it would be better for me and my child to do that then give up all together. I did stop in the end but only after about 6 weeks of having a couple a day. this does not mean I didnt love my unborn child, just means I am an imperfect human that had an addiction. Just to add, there are plenty of pregnant ladies out there scoffing sugary treats, fast food and drinking more than they should be which is actually equally as dangerous - you cant go judging everyone by your standards.

Yes, corkage is exactly what it says it is. Money charged by hotels for people opening bottles of wine etc which haven't been bought on the premises. I've seen it happen in the UK especially at wedding breakfasts, where they bridal party want to supply their own alcohol. It happens here too - I paid corkage for champagne at our wedding

Ladies, Since life is becoming increasingly expensive, can you share your little tips and secrets on how the budget can be optimized? Thank you! :) Stopped buying clothes in Dubai ( Unless the sales are on) Aside from Pork items buy from Carefour ( I used to shop in Waitrose and Spinneys) Utilise beauty offers on Groupon etc Limit my weekends out Spend a lot of time at the beach and take my own food Try to use the washing machine once a week instead of bi weekly Limit myself to a daily spend amount and stick to it Stopped buying coffees and lunch everyday ( make my own to take to work now) You can do laundry once a week? Ha! I would love that (3 adults 2 babies and 2 dogs) I try for once a day lol Even Carrefour is not as cheap as it used to be - I find myself going to different shops for differnet things - annoying but cheaper Eat local produce as much as possible too

Why not deduct the money from her salary to make your point, and then give it back to her for "working so hard this month" or extra baby sitting she did or something? Or if she could use some new clothes, buy her some with that money? That way, you make your point but she benefits from the money and you dont have to feel bad about it

Same as Rawla - staff were great, for the most part. Was lest than impress when I had my first and struggled to get my daughter onto the breast to feed and I had a stroppy mare making me feel really stupid but other than that, all good. I have had 2 there within the space of less than 18 months and pretty recently too

Then you are lucky with your maid. I know different stories from a friend whos maid spoiled the kids to the extend that they allow themselves to hit the maid! As much as I want to work I won't take the risk. Ah yes, blame the maid - couldnt be the parent at fault

Completely agree with the previous posting regarding difficulty of organising child care. Having no kids is actually a huge advantage of the OP in her job search here. She will be able to work long hours and flexible timings. Cannot imagine leaving my LO with a maid after she finishes school at 12:30. Once you do this forget about good upbringing, manners, language etc. If I could do this I would have had a job already. Slightly unfair comment! My children are with a maid for a while in the afternoon as I work and my kids are kind, polite and well brought up, thank you.

Thank you for all your responses! It still difficult to decide. One the one had I dont want to leave as I have worked and studied so hard to get where I am. As this is my first job after graduating i can still move forward a lot (especially with my background). But on the other hand, I dont have a social life at all at home. My family and friends all moved away to other countries, so basically i only have my husband. The job he has been offered is a management position for a multinational which makes him in charge of different companies in India and Europe (unfortunately not Netherlands or anywhere nearby). He would be able to support a family even if i wont be able to find the job. But the thought of sitting at home and just "making babies" is not the life i dreamt of. As my husband seems to has his mind set on accepting the job i have to chose between 1) moving to Dubai with my husband, but sitting home and throwing away 4 university degrees and 2) staying in Netherlands without social ties, but with a nice job and career prospects. My heart is telling me to move with him, but my mind is telling me to stay here. We have been married only for a few months but we have known each other for 5 years and lived together for 2. I just wanted to say that you need to check his salary is actually enough to look after you both. For example, he may be earning 7,ooo EUR a month which sounds great but actually, wont get you both very far This may help you decide

Firstly, put the wife on the husbands visa so she can get treatment here Secondly, who's name is the debt actually in? Is it credit cards in joint names? Personal loan? Overdraft? Can the husband take a loan from the company to pay off the debt and then the company deduct each month? The OP said that the Husband has lost his job so I doubt she can go on his visa Is the whole family on a travel ban She also said he has a job now.

Selfridges in the UK remove the tax from the products when you get to the check out and have a £20 delivery flat fee - might be worth seeing if they have what you want

My husband and I (both from the UK) usually work 6 days a week (not in construction I might add) Our Maid works 6 days a week She Get 2200 a month plus unlimited phone, internet, her own TV and OSN, 2 holidays a year home and at least one with us which she does not work although just does assist sometimes She tells me that she is the best looked after maid that she knows and I have even had her friends ask me from employment so I do not think 2 days off and AED 2500 is "the norm"

No idea where that one is but if you get on SZR towards Jebel Ali, come off at Al Manara Street, turn left at the lights onto Al Wasl and then you will pass Choithrams on the right, take the first slip road and the car park entrance is on the right just before the Co-op. If you miss the slip road then just turn right at the Union Coop and there is another entrance on the right too

I lived there a fair while ago and IMO too much money for what it is and it is pretty loud. There are far nicer properties in quieter parts of Jumeirah and Umm Sequim for that sort of money, although the facilities are pretty good, we hardly ever used them! Not everywhere in Jumeirah is so loud. There are a lot of Mosques and there is obviously noise but I have been to a number of places in the area to see friends etc and its been subtle.

How many hours? How many days a week? The problem with babies at nursery is you have to have a lot more staff to look after them than toddlers so it is expensive. There are tons around Umm Sequim though, I can see 4 from my house
