I am from Sydney, so am contractually obligated to say that it is better than Melbourne ? Both cities have large Muslim populations, so I don't think that needs to dictate your choice. I would be more focused on where you would be more likely to be able to find work. You will be able to find halal food without any problems. In Sydney, suburbs like Rockdale/Hurstville/Arncliffe, Lakemba/Bankstown spring to mind as having large established Muslim communities. This link might be helpful http://www.living-in-sydney.com/muslims-in-sydney-Australia.html You should be aware that housing, particularly in Sydney (and then, particularly in the 15-20km radius of the city), is extremely expensive. Both the rental and purchasing market are eye-watering at the moment. My understanding is that Melbourne is heading in the same direction but isn't quite as bad as Sydney just yet. The suburb that I currently live in is about 12km from the city and rent for a 2bdr apartment is rapidly approaching AUD $600/wk. The lifestyle in both cities is good, albeit different. Very generally, Sydney is a coastal town with a beach lifestyle, whereas Melbourne has lots of interesting alleyways and a cafe and wine bar culture that has sprung up around the laneways. Of course, you can find lots of cafes and small bars in Sydney, but only in certain pockets. Hi little penguin! Sorry to hijack this thread But we also are considering moving to Australia but specifically to Adelaide. Have you ever been there? any information would be great! How are the schools? And it is true that children only get free education starting at the age of 5? How expensive is it? And how's the average salary or rent for a family of 3? Are part time jobs common or just like here? Thank you!

Hi :) We've been with TDCC for almost a year now and they do have issues with management but I find the therapists excellent. But I hate the nursery, they shout a lot and are strict but parents ( which I meet there) are happy and say the children are really improving. I do not believe in AbA therapy and don't have any recommendations but my child does OT at TDCC and she's improving. She also takes speech. I've never considered a special diet, there's not enough research to support this practice, I hope a mom here can share her thoughts, I'd like to know more about it. With regards to school, you need to find one with a good learning support, jps, wellington, Repton, victory heights and japs are the one I reader he'd and found them supportive, I do not believe in special needs nurseries and special needs schools, our children are part of the society and should be accepted as they are as long as you give her or him the proper support. I know it's very expensive so good luck, it's a long journey but at the end it works out somehow :)

I have flown both and would fly both again without a doubt. I actually rate them better than Emirates, as I personally think their service is not as good as it used to be. They're also about half the price of Emirates. Royal Brunei is dry though in case that makes a difference to you. No it doesn't make a difference :) But I do have a a very energetic 3 year old flying with me! I did not find BA as good as it should be especially the food And you are right Emirates is not as good as it used to be either. And they are extremely overpriced!

Thanks everyone. Sorry I should have said Kings and Nord Angela and Dubai British school in JP are probably a bit pricy for me TBH. I might try Hartlands, AR primary, Safa and GEMS suggestions. Then also avoid hartland Gems the villa and metropole Or safa Good luck!

Hi mrssak. for speech therapy i can recommend Hayley at Rashid peadiatric therapy center near MOE. They do have occupational therapist available there but the one i use to see, left on maternity leave and never came back so cannot recommend any one for OT. you can register after the center opens in September but there would be a wait list. Just for info, their outpatient therapy department operates between 2 to 5 pm only . Hope it helps. Thank you very much!

I got an answering machine They'll be back on the 26th!! I guess I'll call them then Thanks comp99

It's hard for me to think of anything, I've been here so long, to say I'm burned out of malls is an understatement. However, Dubai mall is always bustling, and the al bahar place has nice views and it's cool inside. Otherwise, what haven't you done here, what are some of your interests? I am willing to do anything new!! I was thinking of taking the hop on hop off bus tour! (That's how desperate I am lol) Probably movies while my daughter is at the nursery and that's all I can think of Oh and I've never been to wild Wadi (been to Atlantis).

Some people save all year to be able to holiday in Dubai in June (July and August, too). Why not pretend you don't live in Dubai and be tourists for a week- you might find out things about Dubai you never knew existed. This is probably what we are going to do so I'm asking what are the suggestions. It's not going to be Ramadan yet so that's good,

Go to Jordan. The weather is much cooler in June and it's not so far away. Lots to see and do in a week. But my daughter has some therapy classes that she must attend so I can't leave Dubai (unfortunately). Thank you for the suggestion, I heard its beautiful.

Check airbnb but not every owner would happily allow a party. It is also a risk on you, what if someone damages something, like breaks window or furniture, and you do not even notice until landlord makes a fuss. If you have such a large circle of friends, can you host / co-host the party at someone else's place? That has a garden or larger living room? (Just a note: I was always intrigued about these baby birthdays. Obviously, a 1 year old will neither remember the venue nor appreciate it. Probably he is much happier without the crowd and loud music and tipsy adults. So probably if we want to be honest, it is not a party for him, but for you. But then why do you call it 1 year bd, can it just be a normal house party ? ) Totally agree

Thank You so much for the recommendations. ill check them out And yes I'm a Muslim and will be fasting InshAllah :) I definitely think its too commercial and can never eat so much but I would just like to give it a try as (for once) it is my first Ramadan. Back home all the food leftovers are passed on to the food bank as they have an agreement with almost all hotels. Even at my wedding we did the same, food bank trucks come pickup the food just after the wedding. I hope they do the same here.

Lots of younger kids last year, not too young it really is for all ages, apart from babies or kids that can't sit on their seats for an hour or so. Many were dressed up in princess dresses or as Disney characters. Thank you! Do you think bronze tickets are okay or are they too far away? The set up wasn't huge, so I think you will be fine. We had silver tickets and had excellent views. That's great, thank you so much :)

Flydubai is owned by Emirates, so their standards are high. Best budget airline I have flown with. I agree. They are not cheap but you just have to pay for everything (luggage, food, entertainment, and seats).

Hi, I am asking this question on behalf of a friend. She is looking for a school in Dubai which has a majority of Arab students as her husband is Arab and he wants their child to have a good mix of Arab as well as non-Arab friends. Does anyone know of any? They need it to be either a UK or IB school and obviously a "good" school with good facilities etc. Thanks! Emirates international (meadows) Raffles world academy
