Definitely a sport related hobby, or one where he can just have man time with his friends or make new friends through. My husband and I both play rugby and always have since we were together, at times it can be challenging to fit around our children but it means we kill multiple birds with one stone by doing something sociable, sporty and separate! Doesn't have to be something as physical as rugby, a lot of my friends husbands go golfing, fishing, polo etc

Hi Blankacao My son is starting at Safa with your daughter I assume. Last term I signed him up to gymnastics at Dubai Olympic Gymnastics club - lots of little girls do it too and they do a mixture of trampolining, beams, rings, parallel bars, mat work etc. he loves it so will continue him doing it (they have good afternoon timings like 3, 4, 5pm He does rugby on weekends too, but apart from that I do hope they put on some good after school activities at Safa Community!

I actually think Safa will be completed on time. Considering 6 months ago there wasn't even a building, now it is nearly painted, windows are in - the scaffolding that you see can be removed in a day. Got a newsletter email with pictures, they are working on the internal now, doing fixtures etc but it looks good. I'm trying to stay positive...it NEEDS to start on time, 10 weeks with no child care or help with 2 small children...I love them to bits but my patience is wearing thin haha.....

I had surgery (not tummy tuck but I know he does tummy tuck) with Dr Teerasit at Bumrungrad hospital. Actually, Bumrungrad has an impeccable reputation and people fly from all over the world to go there. My after care as well was very good, the nurses were very attentive, kind, and the and the standards of the place were far better than the experiences I've had in hospitals here, to be honest. I was in hospital for 2 days and then regular repeat visits for 2 weeks till I was cleared to fly, and it still cost less than doing it here. But honestly cost wasn't even why I went to Thailand to do it, it was because he came highly recommended. Can't praise dr Teerasit and Bumrungrad highly enough.

Check your policy as it depends on your insurance but I would imagine so. Ours is cigna / saico - they cover physio, chiro etc edited by Nayls85 on 08/08/2014

I'd go see a chiropractor. I've been seeing Dr Vanda at Chiropractic Polyclinic on Al wasl Road for 7 months now on and off for a pre-existing spine condition. Also she helped me loads when I got whiplash and stuff neck from trampolining. She's great.

If this has been going on and off for 5 months I wouldn't look for advice on a forum or on WebMd - take them to the doctor. If anything, just to rule out any serious underlying causes and give you peace of mind.

Between what? Mini and maxi? Or versus glider? My son swapped from mini to maxi when he turned 3 and even though mostly older children use maxi it works really well for him. He did start scooting at 14 months though so quickly outgrew mini in terms of speed!

No advice on glider sorry! The mini and maxi micro scooters last for so long though and are excellent quality I wouldn't personally get anything else. When we lived in London would see heals of children scooting to school on their mini/maxi micros. Fond memories :)

From Abu Dhabi airport with Careem to Umm suqeim I got a quote of 400dhs. We are going to use a private agency, I started a thread about this a few weeks ago, lots of recommendations there

I was at carluccios last night for my 2 yr old's birthday dinner. The staff are very child friendly, and the children get a little activity pack and decent children's menu (35dhs for breadsticks, mains, drink and dessert). Overlooking fountains as well. For adults the food is pretty average, except I tried the lobster lasagne last night for first time and it was surprisingly really good! Lime tree and More cafe is also nice food, I've had a couple of bad experiences with service in Gold & Diamond park, but I would still probably go again.

just wanted to add that I have saved so much money on playgroups and child things with the Family Entertainer book. It has vouchers for the big expensive attractions like Wild Wadi, Ski Dubai etc but also playgroups (Mini Monsters, Zebra Crossing), soft play, bowling, arcade.

Our school will finish at 2:20. I don't think driving in Dubai is a nightmare at all (apart from terrible drivers), I rarely get stuck in traffic and I'm always doing school/nursery/office/grocery runs etc etc. I guess it depends where you love though and what time of day. As for playing outside, it depends . My boys are still going outside now, on beach, late afternoon park and cycling/scooting in compound but they are very outdoorsy and heat doesn't really bother them.

Hello! Check out Safa school and their new sister school, Safa community school opening in September. The people at Safa are really lovely, very friendly and the families I know that attend there are very happy also. It is not pretentious at all, similar feel to Horizon. My son is starting at Safa community next month and I can't wait. Fees are also pretty reasonable as far as school fees go here!

before we got a second car if we couldn't get up early enough I would sometimes shove my boys into the car with an apple pretty much straight after waking up and drop my husband off at work. Then when we got home we'd do proper breakfast and clothes change. Was worth it to have the car for the day. Of course might not be ideal for OP if her husband works far away, or needs the car but just have to play around with ideas and logistics. I'm sure it will work out eventually. Best of luck.

I think you will get an instinctive feeling but yes , 10 minutes is not enough. Assuming you aren't doing long distance interview, I would tell her to come in for an hour and observe how she interacts , plays with and cares for your little one. It's all well and good asking questions but anyone can prep answers for an interview, you need to see on a practical level what kind of person she is and if she and your family would make a good match. I would also call her references and ask them lots of questions too.

Tattie Bogle - what fantastic ideas. To Red: I can certainly identify with some of your frustrations. I only have 2 young boys (2+4) but they are EXTREMELY active and require attention and stimulation literally all day every day, it drains me sometimes and I feel like I wait for my husband to get home and then feel bad for wanting him to just take over when he gets home, when I know he had had a tough long day at work. We don't have a maid but we are luckier than we were when we lived in London, as we have more space here and can afford a couple weeks summer camp, and part time nursery. When we were in London I felt so lonely at times, but I wanted to share that what saved me was meeting just two good friends with similar children, and having weekly play dates. I think if you just invest a little so you can get out a bit more to meet other Mums, once you meet just one or two people that changes everything. Play dates at each other's homes are free, more relaxing, and you just let the kids get on with it and you can have social time too. Hang in there, it will get better. I have also been here 7 months, where do you live? I'm around a lot and I don't work so if you wanted to meet up that would be great.

Depends on the house. I'd bring it anyway. Like Livelytrish said, better to take TRX to park if possible. You can use it around trees, benches and on monkey bars in playground.

Be aware though that most places will apply the public holidays as the two Eid days but some places, like Wild Wadi, apply the public holidays as the days the government get, i.e. all week. i was wondering about this. best to call up before hand then

You know if you fly Etihad (or one of their partner airlines) you can park at the Etihad terminal carpark for free for 7 days and then just 20dhs per day after that. We did it recently and it worked out far cheaper (and much easier) than catching a taxi or car service. All you have to do it go to the Etihad travel mall in Dubai with your flight details and get a voucher. See their website. http://www.etihad.com/en-ae/before-you-fly/free-parking/ unfortunately going with BA which isn't partner airline but this is really good to know for future reference, thank you!

By the way, if you go to Kara at G&D park there is currently a Groupon deal - you pay dhs49 for a 500dhs voucher which is redeemable against purchases over 3000dhs http://www.groupon.ae/deals/dubai/kara-gold-diamond-value-voucher/41450793?utm_source=GRPN&utm_medium=Search&ref=Search&kw=jewellery

I had a really good experience with the Safa Community School admissions process. They are so nice and helpful, worth giving them a call. You can always apply from abroad. I know I was probably just really unlucky and I am not trying to offend anyone, but for all 3 GEMS schools that I applied and paid full application fees totalling 2000dhs I didn't hear from them properly for many months and it was ages before one of them offered my son an assessment for FS2.

I get my drains sprayed for roaches every 6 months - they are huge and there are so many of them. literally crawling up the legs of those doing the spraying. After they have finished i have to sweep them up - usually a dustpan worht of them.. Rats are everywhere - saw a dead one squashed on the road, reason enough to speed :) My friend killled one the other day the size of a small cat :D I saw a dead one too on our road. Took 3 days before it had gone, freaked me out. Also DH pointed out to me the small black rat boxes which I had never noticed and now I see them everywhere, outside malls, spinneys, big buildings, marina walk i notice them everywhere now! Thankfully have never seen rats/mice or their droppings inside our house which i saw a lot of in houses in London. (all this talk about bugs and rodents is making my skin itch! bleauurgh!)

I didn't have a problem either, we did get a random check though by customs (and paid a hefty price tag for this privilege), but everything you are bringing should be listed on inventory and media (books, CDs DVDs) should be in a single separate box so they can have an easy shuffle through.

You could lie and say you couldn't get an appointment with the first lady and so had to book in again with the new one! why say anything? Just walk in and say hello... i doubt hairdresser A is going to ask agreed - and unless she is really bad (unlikely if she's been working at the salon for over 2 years) then some of her regular clients might have swapped over from her friend or other hairdressers too. Win some, lose some :)

I often wonder about when to tip. Petrol stations I do when I have spare coins but then there's a sign saying no tipping. I tip the water delivery man and when someone helps me bring supermarket trolley to car, eg when I have a baby buggy with me. Supermarkets - is it normal to tip the person bagging up your groceries? OP- yes it annoys me when people ask for tip but hasn't happened much to me here. My Mum's from the Philippines and if you go there as a foreigner it happens A LOT.

I think I better call the landlord maintenance company then.... I have to say I haven't had squelchy shoes yes, thank goodness! My youngest has started screaming though whenever we approach the car - unfortunately his car seat is black and very cushioned so retains a lot of heat, poor fella
