Hello, I'm having difficulty deciding which Iftar to attend so would love some feedback. It's a toss up between The Diplomatic Club, The W and The Four Seasons. Has anyone attend any of these Iftars in the past? How was the atmosphere? Thanks! edited by Nik_172 on 15/07/2013 edited by Nik_172 on 15/07/2013

...aaaand it's OPEN!!! We were their 3rd customers and asked for a double double. After explaining what it was... all i got was "sorry ma'am no coffee yet". Sooo I settled for an ice cap. Apparently it'll be up and brewing by tomorrow, Inshallah. Enjoy :)

There's an Al Rayes Dry Cleaner in Beach Tower, in the underground parking garage. Like Joos mentioned, they're incredibly cheap. Just ask the security at Beach Tower and he'll show you where it is as it can be a bit tricky to find. Oh and they're open from 9-12pm and 3-8pm. :) HTH

I braved it. Went around 2:30 and parked in the basement level which was pretty much empty, as the outside and main level parking was full. Just took the escalator up, only 4 other people on their with me. Then shopped my little heart out. It was sensory overload, I wanted everything! But I didn't find it any busier than any other Ikea I've been to. No stampede of pushy patrons, I was able to browse in peace. Like Gail mentioned, the staff were knowledgeable with excellent English speaking skills. Stood in line at the checkout for all of 10 minutes then was on my way. I'm already flipping through the catalog of what to buy next. ;)

Cal_Hob, you can convert your Canadian license at the traffic dept in Menidat Khalifa. It's actually a fairly simple process. Here's a link of the required documents you'll need to bring with you. http://www.onlineqatar.com/living/driving-license-in-qatar. HTH!

Like everyone else I've given up Canadian Residency as well. However, still have my Ontario DL for the same reason everyone else does. The address on my license is my mothers; only because we of course need an Ontario address. Out of curiosity; is everyone else is using a relative's home address on their DL? Also, do many of you still have a Canadian Bank Acct/Credit Card? We have absolutely no savings in the acct, it's used ONLY to pay bills - Ontario Student Loan & CIBC Credit Card. CIBC has on file both my mothers address (used as the CC billing address) and Qatar Address as our permanent address. It's also noted on the file we live out of country. We have absolutely no other ties other than the license/bank acct. Wishing all my fellow Canadians a very Merry Christmas!

Just logged onto the MOI site and almost fell out of my seat. We've accumulated 9 points in 2 weeks! ALL from parking at the QR Towers over the past few weeks. If only they provided proper parking! Anyways, I understand I have the pay the fine in person and they'll tack the points onto my license. But when will the points be cleared from my license? Is it after 1 year after being 'violation free' that they'll be cleared? TIA

Hi Rachel & Gina, We're about do for our inspection as our cars older than 3 years now. We don't have the AAA, so we'll need to do it ourselves. Do you know where AAA took your vehicle for the inspection? Perhaps I can go to the same garage on my own. TIA :)

Maple, not entirely sure but would hope you can submit completed applications. I know for sure they assist with passport renewals. Would definitely be your while to visit him when he's in town on Dec 11 or email the consular directly and inquire, they generally reply within 24 hrs. kwait @ international. gc. ca HTH

Oh dear, that's not good! I've been guilty of flying down that road when I'm running late for work! It certainly can't be your typical speed camera then because those one can be spotted miles away... What did it look like? Looks like i'll be driving at a snails pace in the morning. :( edited by Nik_172 on 07/07/2012

I see 'speed radar' signs around but does anyone know if there are actually cameras? More specifically, on the road you merge onto when exiting the first roundabout once you've entered the Pearl. Not sure if I explained it clearly but it's almost like a highway type road. I see people flying down road, yet I have never seen a camera, flash or anything. :\:

Thanks GutenMorgen and Katcalls! The hubby ended up at the Sherton and he's pretty impressed with it. I also ended up speaking with the new Intercontinental Hotel in the West Bay, they offer a 7 visit pass for 500qr (works out to be approx 70qr/visit). This includes the use of their gym/pool/sauna. And the 7 visits must be used within 2 weeks of purchasing. Will venture down to check their facilities.

GutenMorgen, where exactly is this 'mens gym'?! I know where Al Saad Stadium is but can you describe the building, or tell me what it's called? As an avid bodybuilder, the DH is going crazy without FF and frankly I'm tired of hearing him complain ;) We've tried contacting Aspire Men's gym, but have had zero luck. Hotels don't allow non members, we don't live in a compound and our townhouse at the pearl doesn't allow us to use the gym of the tower were attached to. How are everyone else's hubby's coping without FF? Suggestions?

What do you think the chances are of FF deducting the days they've been closed off next months payment? I understand it's not their fault they've closed, but at the same time I'm now paying for a service I can't use :(

CCdoha, you know that saying.... "can't fix stupid". Which is exactly what I tell myself pretty much everyday. We registered our car almost a month ago, and have yet to receive the sms they told us we would get to pick up our plates... So it's been almost a month and no sms.....guess I should trek down to Khalifa Traffic Dept before 30 days pass... just to be told I need to come back another time, which will probably lapse the 30 days they give... Yep, typical Doha.

Fanar just started their Arabic classes last week. They have both mens and womens classes running at the same time making it good for couples, of course the classes are separate. And it's a fraction of the price of CVUQatar and Stenden for the same results. edited by Nik_172 on 17/01/2012

Not entirely sure if/where tourists can part-take in falconry, maybe inquire with a tour agency. But you can certainly see falcons, hold them and ask locals about the sport. At the Souq, there is a row of buildings near the back parking lot. The buildings have benches out front and falcons/locals inside. It's worth checking out and quite fascinating. Just ask the police around the parking lot to direct you if you have trouble finding it, they'll direct you to the right place.

Dan Lou, not sure what Australia's photo standards are but the photo studio behind The One in Villaggio, next to the mens hair salon will size your photos to the correct dimensions needed and provide white/cream colored backgrounds. The best part is they'll touchup your photo making you look flawless, I've never had such a good looking passport photo before ;)

They sell the exact same accessories in their US lingerie stores, as well as online for a fraction of the price they try selling it here. Charging almost 20USD for the same pair of underwear I can order online for 10USD, amen for Aramex!
