I would go at day time, preferably in a clear day. At night it is like if you would be looking from an airplane windows and you will miss The World. Tickets for sunset are always booked very early so it might be the best time but I have never been for sunset.

Last night my husband tried to come back home to Dubai Marina Metro station from Mall of Emirates metro Station and he couldn't as the metro was broken. Today he tried to go to work (yes, he is working!) from Dubai Marina Metro st to World Trade Centre and the metro stopped in Business Bay and took them in a very big loop around Dubai Mall... But they wouldn't stop in the WTC. Obviously he asked the driver before he got in the bus but you know Dubai. So he had to go to the driver and tell him in the middle of Sheikh Zayed Road: Stop the bus now! in order to get off and take a taxi. The dirver was reluctant but my husband was soooooo piss333d off by then that the driver had no option. Comedy! Perhaps is the opening of the new green line on September the 3rd.... I think I will drive to the mall today

I unfortunately had to fess up at 6 and 7 weeks. I was getting stares for a week or so before that. Unfortunately with both pregnancies I ended up having to wear maternity clothes early since I was definitely showing by then. I am also showing sooooo early! I don't want to tell at work before 12 weeks but I might have to as my belly is so obvious!

Well, my case is totally different. I went for my first visit when I was 5 weeks and I only had an internal scan, nothing else (not urine or blood tests!). Dr. just confirmed that it was not an ectopic pregnancy. I asked about the rubella and he said to me next time we will check it. But I finally decided to go for an antenatal package which starts on week 12 so I won't have any appointment in the meantime.... Apparently is the way forward is the same as there are not many things a Dr. can do for you in the first trimester. So, answering your question, you got much more things done than me! PS: I went to AH.

I am 9 weeks and I haven't told many people yet. I am so tired that I only go for dinners (I cannot really handle the pub or nightclub) and I say either I am driving or I am trying to drink less (I used to be a heavy drinker) so people believes me. We were for dinner to my husband's boss flat with some of my husband's workmates and he just told his boss (who was the host) confidentially "My wife is pregnant" so he only offered me non-alcoholic drinks. That was very easy and kind. I know it is a difficult topic and when I was trying to conceive I was on holidays in the UK and once I refused a beer and all my friends automatically started to joke about it. People just don't realize! Non-alcoholic beer is another option unless somebody sees the can!

It's funny you are talking about this as yesterday I received a CV with a presentation letter written in the same way as the OP. I could not believe it! English is not my first language either and I'm sure I make a lot of mistakes, but for a cover letter and CV I always read them several times!!!!! Some people here just don't care and the first impression is crucial to get a job interview. Obviously I didn't invite her for the interview!

Thanks Aussiepup for your clarification. Regards cold meats, NHS from the UK says: [i'>"Cold meats and smoked salmon: Some countries advise pregnant women not to eat cold meats or smoked fish because of the risk of listeria. In the UK, we don't advise women to avoid these products because the risk is low. The risk of listeria is much higher with cheeses such as camembert, brie or chevre (a type of goat's cheese) and others with a similar rind, or pâté, which you shouldn't eat during pregnancy. However, if you are concerned, you might also choose to avoid cold meats and smoked fish while you are pregnant"[/i'> I have checked the package of turkey and roast beef I have in the fridge and it is from Sharjah... so I don´t think I will eat it. However I haven´t realised and I have eaten smoked salmon, I think from Norway, country that gives me slightly more guarantees than UAE, to be honest. Unfortunately I don´t think we should be eating cold meats here in Dubai. This is going to be more difficult I thought! edited by Nimonemo on 20/08/2011

Good morning ladies! Nice to read everybody is doing well. I'm in my week 7 and I haven't had major nausea yet. I feel very lucky so far! Eating loads and still feeling very tired, I need to be in bed at 10 pm! My stomach is quite doggy in general, maybe I am suffering the lack of nausea in another way??? I'm not going to the doctor until my 12 week - have you had any major analysis or test during your first trimester so far? Because I feel well we have decided not to go to the hospital until week 12, do you think it is a god idea? Thanks

Thanks sparkly. I am still trying to decide between the packages in City or AH, I think it is six and half a dozen so I will end up in whichever give me an appointment on a Saturday. Also all the Doctors seem to have pretty good reviews... Congratulations Sweets, such a funny day to be born, it only happens once every 4 years! How is everybody else doing? The last two days I had a a brief, sharp, stabbing pain in my abdomen, I have checked online and apparently is my uterus growing but it normally happens in the second trimester (starting week 7 today). Anybody else feeling that? Ladies, are you showing yet? I do have a suspicious wee belly ;)

Hi there. I had my first appointment with Dr. George at AH and both my hubby and I were very impressed. However, he told us he is is opening his own private clinic in September so he won't be at AH hospital anymore. Also it freaks me out that he might be offering scans every single appointment as I might opt for only the medically necessary scans. But this is a personal choice, of course.

Thanks very much for the detail of the information and point of view. I have also had to pay in advance and then claim the money back if I have a package they will give me back 90%, if it is just appointments they will give me back 20%, that is why I was thinking in buying a package. But your experience of feeling an "overmedicalised" in your second pregnancy it is a very good point. Unbelievable that City and AH don´t cover the major scans even buying a package!

The only reason I had an scan on week 5 is because I book an appointment with Dr. George in American Hospital who is specialized in scans. I only wanted to confirm my pregnancy and he used that method to do it. It is my first pregnancy so I just choose a random doctor at the AH and it happens that he uses scans. However, I discovered that I have a 20% co-insurance if I don´t go for a package so I don´t think I will do more extra scans (only the 3 included in the package). Talking about packages, I am looking for buying two packages one for pregnancy and another for delivery (I only have to pay 10% when I buy a package) and I am trying to decide which Hospital (American, City or Medcare). I will appreciate if you tell me your experiences. Thanks ladies.

I hope you don´t feel too bad during the next days. I´m also 6 weeks and no nausea nor vomit (yet). I had diarrhea for 4 days but now I have stopped drinking hot drinks I feel much better. I almost faint a few times per day. Also, yesterday I was sooo tired that I felt asleep on my desk, at work. Today I´m better, thought. Trying to understand my insurance policy is proving to be a much worse nightmare than pregnancy symptoms! I hope everything goes well in your scan. Fingers crossed for you. Let us know.

Dr. told me very clear during my first and only appointment that he recommends not to tell anything to anybody as it is still very early and there are some risks. He was very cautious, which I think it is very realistic but I cannot really stop thinking on his words :( If everything goes well, I will also deliver at City Hospital! you dr. is right.. I had to rush to ER today with cramps and bleeding..no more due March 2012 for me :(((( So sorry to read that. I hope you recover soon and start trying for another one. Bear in mind that nature is very wise and it is better your situation now that having an unhealthy baby in 8 months.

Pingu: regards the cramps, while I was having an scan, Dr. told me that I must have been sore as he could see my corpus luteum formed during ovulation (I am 5 weeks pregnant). As we are still in a very early pregnancy apparently we might be still sore as our period would come.... I hope this helps. Apart from that only thing I have noticed is that my digestions are very slow. Dr. told me very clear during my first and only appointment that he recommends not to tell anything to anybody as it is still very early and there are some risks. [i'>Because everybody is WRONG we should not continue doing it. That is why we are blessed and had access to education.[/i'> This is not the only country which pays people different wages according to their nationality. This is the way of the world, and not a UAE-specific situation. But if this bothers you, perhaps be reminded, too, that there are very FEW nations around the world which give equal pay to men and women [currently women in the US, for example, earn 75 cents on average for every dollar a man earns'>. It is certainly problematic that different nationalities are paid different wages, and I suggest that if you have a problem with it, then [if you are in a position to employ someone'> you pay them what you believe they are worth. Most people come to an understanding about pay with their staff/employees and most also give pay rises according to the quality of work [just as one would get in many other countries'>. [i'>Sorry I need to come back to this one: A housemaid is not a friend or relative but she takes care of YOUR CHILDREN so perhaps is even more important [/i'> Many MANY housemaids join families with little to no experience in childcare and their employers have to train them to do the bare minimum to care for their children. As a result, their pay reflects this. Moreover, there are also a great many women who employ housemaids to do the houseWORK so that they can take care of the children themselves. I reiterate that housemaids/nannies are not relatives or friends and should be treated accordingly. They are, or should be, trusted employees, but they cannot and in my opinion should not be a part of the family. [i'> I'm struggling to find the connection here. Paying someone a certain wage has nothing to do with racist epithets used in the UK. And if it comes to this, even the UK will pay people a different wage depending on their country of origin [for doing the same job as its own citizens'> because that's how industry works. Employing cheaper labour from overseas is the way most big companies are able to protect their bottom line and turn in a profit for their shareholders and pass on these savings to their customers and clients. [i'>PS: Some jobs pay different to Asian than to Europeans because it is not the same to have a degree from the Imperial College of London than from another university nobody knows from an Asian country. But this is other discussion completely different.[/i'> Some do, yes, but there are -- equally -- very well qualified people [more qualified than their western colleagues'> who are being paid less because of the colour of their skin/country of origin. This, as I mentioned up-post, is not a UAE-specific 'problem'. So, in your opinion, when it is our turn we should operate as big company to maximize benefits… Perhaps I cannot handle very well that I am much more privileged than other people in the world and Dubai shows it to me every single day in a very dramatic way. Things are wrong elsewhere seems to be perfectly fine here… but that should not change the way we look at other people. PS: The excuse to pay less to a maid because we have to train her on childcare is pathetic – what about the instinct all ladies have? Maybe if we give the maid good conditions to start with she will be more effective!

I was in Costa Brava once in June and we stayed in a camping site in L´Escala. It was huge, we did not book in advance and we had a bungalow. It was not cheap either, full of Dutch families... July is probably busier, I found that a lot of Europeans go by car to that part of Spain to spend their holidays.... What is your budget? I am asking because there is a government owned chain of hotels called Parador where you can find very nice hotels in very nice places at a good price. I have checked online and there is one in Costa Brava, Parador de Aiguablava that looks amazing. I have never been in that one specifically but I love Parador in general, they have never disappointed me. If you go weekdays is usually cheaper. You can book online in parador dot es (website is also in English). Look for Parador de Aiguablava and see what you think. I am a member of Parador (it means I have a loyalty card) so I get very good prices. I think you can apply to be a member online and then get the good offers. Probably you are on time to do it now for you holidays in July. Let me know if you need more info! (I promise I am not working for this chain of hotels, but I am Spanish and I know that very few foreigners know about these amazing hotels and offers, that is why I am telling you. Plus I celebrate my wedding in one of their hotels and it was awesome and very good price! Every time I go back home we stay in a different one)

How old are you Jane? Do you have any 'spare' childbearing years left??? Think about the situation this way please. Move on 10 years and consider these scenarios... 1. You decide that your man is worth it and have a wonderful life with him but without children. 1. You fail to meet anyone else and so have ended up childless AND manless. 2. You meet somebody else who isn't "The One" but was willing to share in the making and the raising of a child, so you have the children you want but you have compromised on the man. Not one of the above 3 scenarios is perfect is it? Which one is the 'most' perfect to you. If you can't have it all, which would you choose? Of course, you may end up with a spectacularly wonderful man who ticks all the boxes including having children. But you may not. Are you willing to take the risk of losing the wonderful man you have? I'm not trying to be controversial or sway you any particular way, I just want to make you think a bit further about the whole thing. 4. you fall completely in love with a gorgeous guy and you have children together... (by the way, you mentioned you start going together at a very early age....uhmmmm.... this might mean you haven´t been with other guy.....uhmmmmm..... there are plenty of guys out there waiting for you, darling!)

hehe - more than cycles, vitamins, tests and whatnot, the biggest and best bit of advice to conceive is to relax and enjoy yourselves. Don't run and get a test 2 weeks after you think you might have - let nature take its course and enjoy the experience and the surprise of missing your first period kind of unexpectedly! As for the mechanics of it, sperm lasts up to 4 days, so if you Do It every couple of days around when you're likely to ovulate, one of the little swimmers is more than likely to get through. The theory is that apparently male swimmers are faster, but short-lived and the female swimmers are slower but live longer... sooo if you do it a few days before you ovulate, then the male ones will die off and the girl ones will hit the jackpot, but if you Do It when you've already ovulated, the little boys will get there first. However, you have to remember that a healthy pregnancy is a minor miracle. Not every sperm-meets-egg results in a viable embryo and not every embryo results in a viable foetus. That's another reason why I feel strongly about not testing very early on... let nature do its thing. Very interesting theory - however, still quite a big change as who knows when I will ovulate! (I know I can have a guess, but it is only a guess...)

Right, so it might be time for me to go home with my tail in between my legs... Although it was hard to hear this advice, I think you are right. I too, would have been defensive if he had rung and been upset at me. I had a long, sh*tty day and took it out on him and these postings have brought me back to reality. Well done to recognise it. Guys are usually very welcoming when we are nice to them! I am also sometimes mad at my husband for stupid things and when I apologise he always understand! Good luck tonight and have fun - after the storm there is always a (s3xy) rainbow ;)

If you are still so mad at him is maybe because there is something else that you are annoyed at? Marriage is about sharing and compromising forever. Material things are not important and don´t give you happiness. That´s why I don´t feel I can give you any advise - we are in different waves! For me it is crazy not to share with your husband all the money gets into the home (what will happen when you get pregnant, for example, and you have to compromise your professional career and ability to make money for your family, then you won´t be able to afford expensive decorative items for the flat...)

Ladies, is there any particular reason you are posting everything about your flats but not the price? I would be interested in prices, as I am already living in JLT and I think I am paying too much (75 k for 1 fully furnished bedroom flat) Do you think I will get a 2 bedroom for that price? Thanks Yes, the reason being ............that the thread said 'JLT any towers recommended or to be avoided' and the original poster in her post didn't ask for a price and just wanted opinions/recommendations... so thats why ;) But since you ask for price.....here goes... (ref made to you apartment), its fully furnished so its probably a good deal, I don't know, as I've furnished my own apartment. Generally for a good quality 2 bed I would say 70'000 + (thats unfurnished). If anyone knows any different....... edited by Diamante on 09/05/2011 Thanks very much Diamante.
