Hi, When I started out at my heaviest I needed 40kg to lose as well and one day whilst stuffing a chocolate in my face I came across a website called www.myfitnesspal.com it is an online food and exercise diary, I created an account that day and started counting calories, I started by cutting down on White flour products and added more protein, cut out all (about 4 or 5 a day) chocolates and crisps and baked goodies, stopped drinking coke zero, changed my Starbucks latte from full fat to skinny and started a bootcamp class a zumba class and started running. 5 months later I have lost 18.6kg and gone down from a size 22 to a size 14. I have done this on my own and not consulted a dietician. I still have at least 20kg to lose but I am confident that as long as I keep track of what goes in my mouth I will reach my goal.

Thanks so much! I feel a bit better about going now, we will be going sometime in March (I think) to look at schools and for a house....what are the houses like? I get the impression that they are big villas with gardens? Unfortunately I am a creature of habit and don't like change and I am not particularly adventurous, I love my life here in Doha so very disappointed to be leaving all that I know so just looking for some reassurance that's it's going to be ok!

Hi Husam, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid when I was 16 and always struggled with my weight and although I was on medication for it I never ever lost weight. I am 29 now and in September decided enough was enough and kept an online food diary (using www.myfitnesspal.com) and started doing lots of exercise. 3 months later I have lost 12.2kg (27 pounds) and I had my thyroid tested last week and due to my change in diet and increase in exercise I no longer have an underactive thyroid, I was gobsmacked and asked the doctor if that is possible or if they did the test wrong (I have had numerous blood tests over the years for my thyroid) and apparently it is possible for it to go back to normal.

I have 2 friends that have moved in to Champs Elysee 2 in the last couple of months, one has a 3 and a half year old little girl and a little girl due in January and my other friends have a 4 year old boy and a nearly 2 year old girl. As far as I know they are very happy there at the moment. You mentioned Palm Gardens....is it palm gardens near the American school or Palm city next to Beverly hills 10? If it is the one next to the American school I can say that we moved from that compound at the end of May, I wouldn't recommend that compound as the pool is useless for people with children as it has no shallow end or steps, it has a very small gym and no communal grounds. Its also very bad with the traffic with it being next to the American school. If it is Palm city you are talking about then I know some people in there as well and they are very happy there. I am in Les Roses 2 which is round the corner from Champs 2, there are a couple of houses open here aswell but the maids room is very small and the gardens are not very big either but the houses are lovely and the compound has great facilities and great maintanence. I also have a 4 year old and a 2 year old.

I am really really hoping to be there Dan Lou I am sick at the moment with either allergies or flu (doc not sure arrgg). I go everyday now because my little girl is now in school every morning. There are a few oldies and a few newbies but not very many at the moment. Think the weather scared most people in the first week of November as it was still a bit hot! Hopefully will see you next week :-)

Hi Picklz, I go to a bootcamp which is held at Aspire park, it is an independant lady (she does not work for Aspire). Her name is Shona and the bootcamp is held on Sunday 8am - 9am, Monday and wednesday 8:30am - 9:30am and Thursday 8am - 9am. The price is QR 40 per session. You can just pitch up on any of the days if you wish to attend, but if you would like her email address or phone number let me know and I will send it to you. We only started outdoor bootcamp last week but in those 4 days we did running around the park, running up and down the hill, skipping with skipping ropes, squats, lunges, pushups, etc.... I work out with a heart rate monitor and burn anywhere from 400 to 650 calories in an hour. It doesn't matter if you start out and not fit (I was extremely unfit when I started in February!!) You will loose lots of weight doing bootcamp as long as your eating is healthy aswell. I have been training with Shona for 2 months consistently and I have lost 9kg (20 pounds) so far. Hope this helps you :-)

Hi BEDH, I live in Les Roses 2 which is in Al waab, I have 2 very busy toddlers and I love it here! Very good maintanence and a lovely quiet compound. We have a secure outdoor space although its not that big compared to some places but my kids can play outside and I don't worry about them being able to get out. If you are interested then you just need to come to the compound and ask the security guard to show you an open villa, I know that there are a few open at the moment. Good luck!
