Agree Daza. You know what, sounds silly, but I kept my running shoes away because I stopped running :s I've got them out as of now and yes, wearing them. Ugly, arch support looking monsters, but I got to do what I got to do :)

I'm a anti sugar queen. So it's not that, but thank you for your suggestion. Wheat? now that I do have, not much, but yes, sure is in my food. I was diagnosed with seranonegative arthritis and was told to cut wheat as this has a major affect on inflamation in joints / ligaments. I actually can feel the difference when i do eat wheat / sugar - i actually find sugar to be more "painful" than wheat. any tips on how to start cutting it out? what kind of foods do you eat instead? thanks again.

He really has given me some confidence (thanks to your post). I am exactly as he says - no particular reason, healthy, fit, but so achy and feel weak. Its such a nice thing to hear its not a random nor unusual case. re running shoes. I have a pair of custom running shoes from London (I don't run anymore though, I hate the thought of it now too) however, no reason I shouldn't get them out the store and start wearing them day to day. They are just so ugly :p Right, will start wearing them today see if they help too. I once started following cave man diet after being pumped into it by a blog called marksdailyapple. Anyway long story short, it was completely no grains and I lasted hmmm 4 days lol. Obviously, i know, cutting out wheat isn't the same as no grains. I have to figure away of how to do it. I have to try this, cover all avenues. thanks again. appreciate your tips and i've shared his video with my family too.

goodness me. Thanks for this, I'm going to try it. As it happens I do take msm, its been about 3 months so I think its safe to say that I haven't noticed any benefits. But i've looked at the label of what i bought - was recommended to me by BioCare rep working at Organic Food Cafe. Anyway label says (per 3 capsules) : MSM 3g glucosamine Hydrochloride 990mg Vit B6 90mg and the link you sent me says (per 5 capsules) Glucosomine Sulphate 2000mg MSM 2000mg Chondrotin Sulphate 500mg Boron 3mg Interesting, i'll look into this. Worth a short. Capsules make me gag though *puke* and i blame all this pain on running so much. I know not proven, no medical person i've seen has said so, its just a gut feeling and I know my body. I wish I knew this years ago. Hope your mum has lots of pain relief.

I had a horrendous experience with Dr Raj. I chose her based on recommendations on here as at that time i was very new here and didn't know anyone. Horrible. However AH was amazing, staff amazing and for baby num 2 it will be AH for me again no doubt about it. Just chosen another doc. I made appointments with the other obn/gyn and chose the one that made me feel the best and comfortable. good luck

Is it English? I am tearing my hair out at the moment as I am dealing with a service provider who speaks barely a word! Surely if you are interfacing with customers in a sales capacity, you should have a good command of the language? Since it is an Arabic country and Arabic is the official language, I really do not find it strange, at all. Nor do I. Not speaking English doesn't make them stupid or the like. The official schools of the country teach in Arabic, so you'll need to get yourself a translator to help you understand him. Do you have any bilinguals in your office who could help? Agree - doesn't make them stupid, in fact they probably frustrated at you for being here 4 years and not able to string a few words in Arabic or Urdu. I've been here 2 years and can understand bits of Urdu and a lot of Arabic because I made a lot of effort to learn and try. I'm quite pleased with myself. Also love the seeing the jaws drop from Arabs or Urdu speakers and they get so happy with my effort. I gave up work last may - all official govt business including legal needed to be in Arabic, everything else English.

We pay for everything. Never think twice. It's part of my culture to be generous and incredible hosts and paying for things is part of this and is second nature. I am lucky though as most guests have been family if more than one person and only one person at a time if friends. This was the same when we were in London and people came to see us there. Usually friends from university so from all over the world. Lastly - if friends and they stay more than a week then they usually insist on picking up some bills. But this too is rare as unless its family, my guests usually stay under 5 days :)

yes, the Welsh public must be reeling after April Jones went missing too. I was reading some eye-witness accounts and one young family watched the driver drive straight for them and their baby girl. The father and mother took the brunt of the impact which saved the little one from injury but what a crazy senseless thing to do read that too. Oh gosh, gives me goosebumps. And you're right, sad sad baby girl April too. I guess with such little information about this crazy man, doing these hit and runs, lots of questions are left un-answered. But goodness, what horror it must be to feel for all those living on near by streets.

Beg, plead, cry if you have to - whether the buggy makes it into the cabin is up to the crew on the day. Obviously if they have ten infants and ten parents wanting buggies onboard it's a hard one but if there are only a couple, there should be space somewhere. We have a Bugaboo Bee and, folded up, it fits in the overhead locker. I've lost count of the number of times I've been told 'No way' and after a minor breakdown I've miraculously been allowed to bring it onboard. Sadly, some crew seem to enjoy being able to say no :(. But then some will do all they can to help you and are lovely :). edited by DubaiCat on 22/10/2012 same here,i just brace myself for hearing no no no no no. BTW mine is an aircraft specific stroller, thats why I bought it based on reviews, and I DON'T take carry on for myself, just a purse so sorry, I am in no mood to hear 'NO' when I see everyone else push and charge past me with handluggage the same size. If i've had common sense, and been considerate enough to only take a purse, they can be considerate enough to see although I have 'apparent' right for hand luggage, I didn't pack any, so the stroller can go on. I'm not kidding, this thing is tiny tiny tiny. Yes, so errrr, meltdowns have been the norm. Anyway, just to say, in my long winded way, prepare yourself, be in the know, keep calm, and it'll be ok. Just don't expect anyone to help you. Once, I needed the loo so bad, I asked the air steward if she could hold my baby, she said no, I got so upset on that flight, had tears running down me, and was trying hard to hide my face and desperate for the loo too. I've been there, its been hard, but you make it through and it will all be fine. I say, the only thing you need to pack is confidence and patience. also to add, I agree Flydiver - Arab and Asian airports, gosh, been a pleasure and a breeze for me. Assistance from the aircrafts, airlines, airports and random people helping me no end. However, when you need to go back home, you just have to go with that mindset of not expecting any help. Doing what you can to make your own travel easy and painfree.

"Yes I agree with this. I never gave dd sugar at all, then when she was about 18 months old a friend popped a white choc button in her mouth....from that moment on she was on the hunt for sweets" This post made me laugh, I have a similar story, I'm a no sugar allowed mum too, but that goes for us adults in the house too. Anyway, my 2 year old went out to a celebration dinner yesterday with us, and I caught her, somehow managed to take someone elses coke filled glass and she was sucking that straw like it was milk as fast as she could. After my over-the top reaction and near heart attack, I found it amusing. I'm not over it (quite) yet, but it just got me thinking that the glass was filled with brown, not particular nice smelling liquid, how on earth did my 2 year old know that whatever would be in that glass would be worth drinking and not any of the other drinks on the table. She's fine, her eyes were watering from the fizz LOL but never the less, she is ok. I'm not sure about me though. :p

I know this was the other day, but I can't make sense of it. He has been charged but my gosh.....poor poor mother, dead, and she just left the house as usual. He attempted murder with 13 others, pure strangers. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-20024347 Then, reading on the latest random shootings in USA too. Who the **** are these lone rangers killing people that have nothing to do with them. I know this sounds extreme, but why not just top yourself and leave it at that instead of this.

very good points, muslims come in all colours, shapes and sizes LOL. reminds me of a quote from Malcolm X I once read when he went on Hajj, Mecca - along the lines of "here, I saw the whitest white muslims to the blackest black muslim and everything in between" Love that quote. My own neighbours to the left are Jordanians, blonde with blue eyes and to the right Azari, complete mix. Sorry - long winded way of saying nobody will know, but however, it is a prayer room, not a place to use for anything else really, but sometimes in desperate situation with a crying baby, it is the only choice. You know what though, i used a breastfeeding cover, bought it cheap and fed dd EVERYWHERE. From restaurants to parks, nobody ever said anything. I did this until she turned 1, then I stopped as she hated the cover on her face and then I used prayer rooms and changing rooms of shops. Sometimes the baby toilets too, when it couldn't be helped.

Do you have parents or siblings to stay with? I spend 5 weeks at parents down south and then 2 weeks at my siblings up north . Its worked out really well for the last 3 years and I don't think i'll be changing it. To be honest, I'd never think about moving our tenants in London. Not worth the hassle. And I also wouldn't pay out on renting a place as its so expensive. Instead I use that money on my parents and the house as if I was living there and I'm the same at my siblings place. However it's only 3 of us and we share one room happily, I guess it would be harder with a bigger family. Hubby comes for weekends during the 7 weeks and we use those to have trips, visit other family etc see if anything like above would work out for you - splitting your trip and making little holidays within a holiday, instead of forking out on rent.

Yea thanks I got her few quotes, some excellent - 40aed consultation fee and another 90aed. Really happy to know such places exist. Affordable general check up's do exist then. Think she go docs, get piece of mind, then when she goes back in December do whatever she needs to do as she's spent all her life working and no need to worry over such things on her first ever holiday in donkey years.

Her (single )son is away this week, hence asking me. She came to visit him. She doesn't have insurance. tbh, in this day and age, I wouldn't ever, nor would I let anyone seeing me, travel without insurance. I assumed this was standard. But yes, poor lady and I hope she feels better soon. I checked at my doctors, its 500 consultation then starting upwards of 800 for her one specfic test which needs other tests with it. Anyway, they can afford it I'm sure, just a steep bill. Captain America I too pay, and never have been left off, lucky you. :p

It is sad, its also sad that the ones that get this special treatment seem so unhappy, always complaining, or so would seem. I have met very happy, grateful expats too, but they've always always been from Oz or from NZ. In my experience the, I mean, THE most racist people i've ever met at work have been white south africans, and white south africans in HR.....if you're brown, and applying, forget about it. Remember this is my experience. Followed closely by Brits, then Americans. Weird, bonkers!

Some people take to expat life and others don't. I think people should embrace the differences and look at it as an adventure. Anywhere you live is what you make it. Personally I would never go back to the UK, it's the pits and getting worse by the day. agree agree agree. Year 3 for me, 1st year I just acted like an expat, a 'guest' and it was no good. Year 2 and so on, LOVE IT HERE. I want to live here as long as we can, in fact, i never want to go back to the dump that is london, or anywhere in UK for that matter ever again. I spend summer there for family, but its dirty, dangerous, horrible in so many ways I actually put my hand on heart on my return to dubai and said i'd never be so ungrateful again or complain about this place. I guess, just try to feel lucky and grateful. It really does wonders for your head/heart to think a long those lines.

LOL! detox brain. Destination Maternity :p It's upstairs, near the north food court of Mirdiff CC. And you can find the madela bags at the back, right hand wall. Also, I always buy from Mirdif CC babyshop. When did you last look? They used to be on a stand on their own near the feeding covers, but now they are mixed in with the rest of the baby supplies.

Hi, I have found about 15-20mins of old wedding video shot on a pro camera but, well, not very good. I want somebody to edit this and make a lovely video out of it, probably will end up being 5 mins, but hopefully a beautiful 5 mins. Does anybody know any film editors, or videographers that will edit this for me. I have called a few wedding videographers but they don't edit home shots, or any films not shot by them. Idea??? Thanks

thanks ladies, big sign in black marker now taped to front door.. sorry for the rant but it really has been driving me mad.. when i tell them we do the garden they tell me no no no i am gardener you are not. Really? what exactly makes them more qualified.. i have no grass only tree's. i have irrigation and a blower, power hose and preening tools. no green fingers required.. It is terribly irritating but you have to remember where you are. A little more patience and cultural awareness might help you cope. Really like your post Livelytrish. If the worst that "these people" as you mentioned more than once is ringing your door bell looking for work - you really need to calm down. Poor guys out in the horrid heat to be met with door slammed in thier face. There are many who come here and think they are better than "these people" but wow this post is something else.

Really depends what you need it for. I print a lot of my own work and photos but wanted a reasonably priced home printer as for 'proper' prints I go to the professionals. I can recommend a Canon Pixma MP280. I really like it, my HD photos and graphic prints come out very well. Don't quote me, but I'm sure the cartridges are about 40aed. The printer itself was around the 250aed mark. from c4.

This happens to many and most kids, nothing to do with you being an expat. They do this to ALL kids and its also normal in other parts of the world such as Turkey. They mean no harm, they love kids and are not afraid to show it as there is no weird stigma attached to loving children and finding them joyful as there is in the west. In the west, lets face it, its all about being suspicious and pervey etc etc etc blah blah (rightly so). Here though, and in many other parts of the world, thankfully, in my opinion, this connection still exists. They don't mean harm and I am flattered and absorb any love shown to my kids by other people. It happens to me daily, all the time and my little girl is a confident, loving, well mannered kiddo. We aren't white either so it defo is not a colour thing. Anyway - point is, if you don't like it, you should say something. But be very kind when you do. I don't agree in being firm or rude though. Why would I want to be rude to good energy. And be sensible, be alert, have common sense. It will be ok, so will your kids.
