It is hard decision to make ,but as has been said 4-6 less kittens to find homes for.The important thing is you cared enough to do something about it. edited by Nomad on 06/03/2013

It has always been so hard for me to see a poor mom in distress while trying to shop with a crying baby.My first instinct is to offer a hand, but then I have to remind myself 'hey you are a total stranger, who would let a total stranger hold their baby' but you get my meaning. Who are we to judge ? Now little monsters who run around screaming and bumping my table when I am out having a meal now that's another story ( oops no thread drift intended !! Sorry ). edited by Nomad on 06/03/2013

gib this is the last place you want to advertise wanting to mate dogs for the purpose of a litter. Most of us are proponents of spay and neuter here in the UAE. For the sole reason that there are already too many animals that have been dumped on the street because people wanted a litter of their gorgeous babies then could not find good homes for those babies with people who knew how to care for animals :(. May I suggest that you make a choice and not mate your dog for purposes of breeding. That would be the humane thing to do. And if you do choose to mate, may I also step up and say it is a very selfish thing you are thinking of doing :( Soooooo agree SueB.What a terribly selfish thing to do.The way you have advertised that you are looking for a mate just illustrates that you have no idea how important genetics are. This is called back yard breeding ! Echo chic pointed out the negatives and you reply totally ignoring the point. What will you do if she has a litter and they have one of these disorders ? You now have puppies who are not 100 o/o healthy. Will their new owners care for them and cover possible future vet bills , or will they land up as another abandoned stray on the streets of DXB? The kindest and ethical thing to do is to have her spayed and enjoy having HER in your life to love and care for.Leave the breeding to the Ethical professionals........

It is so intersting to read the different responses. Firstly yes....HAPPY !!! While growing up as a Boomer very few of my relatives including my parents had gone further than high school. The most important thing our parents wanted was for us kids to get post secondary education. If you mentioned a trade in our house my Dad was not happy,'you will at the very least get an office job'. I trained in the Insurance Industry as that is where I managed to get a reasonable paying job. There was no money for me to go onto Uni or College. When we had our kids there were stars in our eyes and our eldest showed great promise,he said he wanted to be a doctor. Our youngest was a plodder and really battled to keep up with his brother. Both never entered the fields we thought were a good match......but they are happy with what they chose. All I can say is don't lose sight of what is practical, there are so many graduates today walking around with massive studant loans they have no hope of paying back any time soon. No one has mentioned a trade, in North America a plumber can earn as much as a Plastic Surgeon. There is a severe shortage of trades world wide as many ( me included ) never even thought about looking into a trade. Yes we all want what is best for our kids but we must be there to give advice and guide but also be practical not everyone can be a brain surgeon, lawyer etc. We eventually sent our boys for apititude tests and they were pretty accurate in their suggestions, much to my surprise....totally different to what we thought would be a good fit. That's fantastic Nomad! As hard as it is there is definitely appeal. Lol although for me at the moment I currently have five days left and i am so glad to see the back of it! Has he lost weight doing it? He hasn't lost much weight but didn't have much to loose, he is a fitness nut ! I could just not believe how drenched he was after the work out..I can only imagine how excited you must be to see the end in sight :)

Give Feline Friends a call.Tell them you have rescued this kitty and can they help you in getting the best deal. I am no longer in DXB but did a lot of fostering for FF and used Nad Al Sheba not sure if they still work with FF.... Also you could phone the Bin Kitty Collective as they also doTNR I believe.

It is really great that you have taken her under your wing. I would terminate.Have had to do this a few times .I am a big animal animal lover but over time I have realized you have to do what is in the best interest of the animal and the situation. There are just too many strays in DXB and finding homes can be daunting and kitten season will be upon you soon. FWIW it is also safer to terminate earlier than later. A hard decision I know but one only you can decide on.:( edited by Nomad on 03/03/2013

Hi Bella, welcome to Dubai! Here are some things to do which are cheap / free. Some are touristy but worth doing if you have not done before. I would also recommend you pick up the Entertainer book - available at most large supermarkets. This contains loads of buy one get one free offers so you and hubby can go for meals etc effectively "half price". Even contains loads of vouchers for coffee shops / ice cream / Wild Wadi so you more than get the value of the book back. Also check sites like Cobone, Groupon etc for good deals every day. 1. Jumeirah Beach Park - 5aed entry and a really nice beach. You can pay 15aed for a lounger. There is a fast food stand there too 2. Mamzar Beach Park - 5aed. Same as above but 5 different beaches and lots of BBQ areas 3. Safa Park - 5aed entry. Large green space with great view of the Dubai skyline 4. Miracle Garden - 20aed entry - amazing display of 45,000 flowers 5. Bastakiya - walk round the old part of Dubai 6. Dubai Museum - 5aed I think to enter, really interesting 7. Take an abra across the creek (2aed I think) and check out the Gold / Spice souks 8. Movies under the Stars at Wafi rooftop - they show weekly movies every Sunday or Monday in the wintertime (now) - call and check what they are showing each week 9. Ravi's - a Dubai institution in Satwa. Pakistani food. 2 people can eat like kings for about 50aed 10. Go for shawarma (about 4aed each) - loads of places on Beach Road like Seashell Cafeteria 11. Dubai Mall aquarium / Atlantis aquarium - you can pay extra to go through the tunnel but it's still pretty spectacular from behind the barriers 12. Dubai Fountain - free, dancing fountains every evening about every 20 mins. Good vantage point is by the Souq al Bahar I am sure there are plenty more things people can suggest but if you're on a budget the above are a good place to start. Also pick up Time Out - they often have features about things to do around town on a budget. Enjoy! Gosh what a nice thing to do TDB ,lovely ideas there. You will be busy Bella2323.;)

How about this? http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H4853ZM/A/Techlink_iPad_Cleaner Same brand different product, also works great on laptops etc. It's what the staff use to clean display items at the end of the day in Apple Stores. http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TX154ZM/A/keep-it-clean-anti-bacterial-notebook-spray-and-cloth?fnode=54 Just take care putting the cloth back in the lid afterwards, I put mine back a bit damp and it went mouldy :-( Also personally I wouldn't bother with a screen cover, you just end up getting dust between the screen and the cover, the glass polishes up just fine. Thanks ladies........I was seriously worried about trapping dirt between cover and screen ( I love this thing.....it highlights spelling mistakes so now EW won't have to put up with my dreadful spelling ). :):)

Babylons.....We have an old man who is nearing 20 ,he recently had all his remaining teeth removed. After the op it took almost 2 weeks to get over the anesthetic ,the gums healed beautifully. You mention that your girl has a big open sore,is this an injury?. The most important question to ask is could she be in pain, cats are masters at masking pain. What did the vet say about the healing time? She could also be very stressed over her long stay at the vets. Sadly no one can answer for you but all important is the quality of her life, if she is going to live the rest of her life sat under a bed hissing at everyone there is something not right.Another of our old cats had a tremendous appetite but it became obvious that all was not right when we noticed her trying to eat eggs still in the shell! The vet said she was showing signs of a type of dementia. She went to sleep in my arms in front of the fire, our wonderful vet came to the house. Our old man spends his day between meals in his bed on a hot pad..... his joints are really bad,I know the day will come when we have to make that call.In my heart I truly believe we will know when that time comes. The most important IMO is not to hold on for your benefit but to consider what is best for the old man/girl....... Sending hugs and good thoughts your way. Wipe it with a microfiber cloth. If you have one for your camera you can use that too. :-) If you google microfiber cloth you'll get plenty of results. Any camera shop, Virgin etc sell them if you don't have any. edited by N0rdique on 27/02/2013 I have tried wiping with my camera lense cleaner cloth but can't seem to get all the fingerprint marks off , yep me and my messy paws!.

Oh dear. Ohdearohdearohdear. I've seen the Miracle Garden website - a bit of editing and a spelling/grammar check wouldn't go astray - and I've read a few articles and seen a couple of clips on youtube. What a ... sorry, I know some of you enjoyed it, but what a waste of space. The whistling/security thing? Sounds like a GREAT way to encourage visitors. And what's with all the petunias, marigolds, calendulas etc? These sorts of plants will have to be replaced regularly - I understand that's the point, so people will have a different experience every time they visit - but how about a botanical garden? An herbal or physic/medicinal garden? How about plants which can be USED and appreciated from an educational perspective? Just seeing the little cars with flowers all over them made me want to barf. And the fact that little children can't explore and play and learn from this place; ridiculous. What do they care if a few bits get trampled here and there? This place is expendable anyway, by the sounds of it. Interesting that botanical gardens have been going for centuries, all over the world, and no one sees fit to police THEM to the extent this multicoloured mess seems to require. Oh Dubai. You've done it again. :( Agree.......as an avid gardener I have always tried very hard to plant native to the area ,common sense really. You can,t transplant a garden from one region to another ,surely doing a local botanical garden would have been the way to go.

A bit off track but in the same vein, there was a guest on Dr Phil yesterday ( don't usually watch but it seemed too good to miss ) who seemed like a reasonably intelligent lady. Her son had brought her on the show as her' internet boyfriend' had scammed her out of $187 000 odd. After presenting ALL the evidence to her that it was a scam from a certain African country, she still would not accept that it was a scam and 'Dany' was indeed a fellow in a cubicle in said country. Apparently they run it like a telemarketing system with all the names of the suckers who have been victims of the 'catfish' up on a board with all their details. What I am saying is if they can get one over on more worldy folk who have access to any media/internet they want......what hope have these naive girls got. Do a bit more digging CMM and maybe ask the police if they know of any scams. edited by Nomad on 21/02/2013

Yes 5 weeks is about right. I know this sounds daft but I have always put butter on their paws before they went out ,the first few times.Maybe an old wives tale but it works The first few times out I always shadow the cat so they can have a bit of a walk about and a snifff to get used to sounds and smells etc. We walk about for about 10 minutes and then back inside.Next day a bit longer etc.I never allow them to leave the enclosed garden until I am sure they know the area. Good luck ;) ETA Hopefully SueB will be along to give more advice.... edited by Nomad on 20/02/2013

Right off the bat I have to say his behaviour is completely unnacceptable and disrespectful to you and to his children. If there has been some past trangression on your part (or not) this is no way to deal with the issue. He is using passivity and disconnection as tools to make you make the first move. There are two sides to every story, what do you think your husband would say about his married life if he were the OP? just a hypothetical, is there something he may be upset about? Even the most self confident person will have their esteem eroded bit by bit with such a painful rejection. you and your children DESERVE better. Maybe I am getting old, or maybe I have heard too many hurtful stories like this, of men acting like babies, whatever it is, I have little patience for such hulking sulks. If I were you I'd have stopped tiptoeing around him ages back. I reckon he needs someone to set him straight and tell him whats what. Spending time with the dog in the garden indeed. Does he have a tree house there to pout in? ugh, a grown father ought to be raising his children instead of acting like one. If leaving is what he wants its better to come out and say it and why (affair/money issues) anything is better than this. remember you as a person, wife and mother deserve better, and your children are watching you both. I'd tell him to grow up already. 'You took the words right outa my mouth'.........;) To OP yes you deserve better , at the very least a point from which you can move forward. edited by Nomad on 19/02/2013

JMO Snowflake I know exactly what you are saying BUT it is folk like you who are needed to keep their eye on Dubizzle to sniff out the blatant breeding/ selling of pets.If you come across something that doesn't sound right there is a section on Dubizzle where it can be reported.Generally they do come back to you and in the case of animals are really good.

Perhaps the fact that many homes eg.in the UK did not have any indoor plumbing other than one tap in the kitchen, had something to do with the once a week bath. The loo was also outside at the bottom of the yard ( outhouse ). One can only imagine the job a mother had with up to 10 kids to bath. Not everyone grew up with the luxury of a lovely bath/shower to use daily......( I sound like a Catherine Cookson novel now !!). Yes that is not the case in most homes today although try living in a drought stricken region and see how 2/3/4 showers a day goes down.....Not too well I can assure you. Got one today from Dnata and I was surpised how quick and easy it was. For anyone who needs to know in future you need your UAE licence, passport with residency visa and 2 passport photos. Fee is now 200 AED. Next port of call is trying to find the best Orlando car rental deal! you do know that you dont need it to drive in florida if you have an english written licence, yes there was talk that an idp was required in florida but its just been revoked. I read and was told by my management company that a new law came in on 1st Jan: http://www.ama.ab.ca/travel/international-driving-permit-#Florida edited by DubaiCheekyB on 18/02/2013 Yes this new law has caused quite a stir in Canada loads of people lining up at the CAA .Apparently the Autoritites in Florida are now saying they won't require a Int Drivers lic and will now accept one written in English. However the CAA are still saying it is prudent to get one .......I would get one just in case. Budget gave us an excellent deal.....

Do all the ladies who have children never drink, then? Or is it just that anyone else in charge of your children isn't allowed to drink? I'm interested because I left my two with my sister to attend a wedding last summer and it would never have occurred to me to instruct her not to drink while my children were in her care. As i said before this topic has touched quite a nerve..... Not sure but I read the OP's question to be when your children are in a teachers or guardians care. Nobody can dictate to you how you should behave as far as drinking and your own children is concerned, common sense is the key. As far as my kids were concernedif they went to a wedding with my brother/sister I would sure as heck want to know if he/she was drinking. Once again this is the thoughts of someone who has lost someone as a result of a tragic accident involving alcohol. We have always made it a policy that while out with kids/g kids visiting ,out for a meal etc.one parent is always tea total. Not a big sacrifice, there is a time and place for letting go and having a few. edited by Nomad on 16/02/2013

I am not a teacher but have taken Guides on several overseas trips over the years. Our policy is that leaders need time out and we would take turns having the odd evening "off duty" No way did any of us get anything close to drunk but we did enjoy a couple of nights to a local restuarant for a nice meal and perhaps some wine. The parents were told that this would happen and nobody objected. As long as there are enough adults present to care for the young people , incuding at least one person qualified in first aid then it shouldn't be an issue. Anyone who has travelled with large groups of youngsters in any guise will understand the need for time out! Time out is one thing JoyceB-drinking is another. Taught secondary students for 30 years and would never have done so. Even if there enough teachers to take shifts (and there usually aren't) every teacher needs to be ready to take over if something goes wrong I would say that many of my Guide parents have said that they were often perturbed by the lack of staff on school overseas trips. All of my trips have had high ratios of leaders to girls. Last trip was Austria and we had 24 girls and 9 adults including 3 DHs. We were away for 16 days, mountain biking, hiking with very early starts and rushing around to catch trains. Each couple had 1 night off and the others the same. We had our fair share of probs, 24 wee lassies at each others throats, homesickness and 1 who needed hospitalisation with her appendix!! You should see the paperwork we have for such trips! We also have teachers who are leaders and they have all said that our rules etc are far tighter than many schools. As far as alcohol consumption is concerned, it is allowed as long as the law of the land is adhered to (UK). We are not allowed to drink in front of girls, drink too much and as I said before, there must be leaders available who have not had anything at all. We are not stupid and are very aware of the responsibilities we have for other people's children. A few years ago I had a leader in my unit who had problems and it became more obvious that she was drinking and often turned up stinking of drink. She was asked to leave, end of. Great post JoyceB....a balanced way to approach the issue. I think losing my brother to a drunk driver makes me very black and white on the subject, however, I do realise that not everyone thinks the way I do. Giving the teachers/guardians a night off to have a meal and a tipple makes a lot of sense, but drinking while 'on duty' would be a no go for me. edited by Nomad on 15/02/2013

Put it this way.....would you be happy if the person who has been charged with looking after your children ( any age ) consumed alcohol while doing so......maids, babysitter ,kids out with family, teachers etc. A word with the school about their policy is a start then decide where you want to take it.

As I said it did not 'cure' my dog completely however it did help a lot.Males who are not neutered are frantic to mark their territory it is part of their need to procreate. If you remove this urge it becomes more of a "ok I need to pee" not "ok another male was here this is MY spot ".Sounds daft but true HEHEHE.... As a general rule I spay/neuter all my animals,it makes for a more settled, healthy animal . One of the main reasons is no PUPPIES and KITTENS to add to the overpopulation. By the way there is another thread about free TNR for cats maybe the same vet would give you a good price.

I can't deny the pictures are beautiful.........but to my mind as a gardening nut.....it will need an awful lot of water and maintainance during the summer.Surely a garden specific to the area showing just how beautiful plants and trees native to the region are. JMO

Jetset I have been thinking of you.....I can only imagine how you must miss your dogs.....I am 100% sure that you will find another Shitzu who will be so blessed with the forever home you are offering. Have you contacted K9 or any of the other rescue organisations. Come to think of it contact the vets as their network for helping find homes for strays and abandoned pets is pretty good. I would also put this on the main forum as it gets mush more traffic and I am sure many of the ladies will remember your story. Just ask admin to leave it up for a few days. Remember they will all be waiting for you one day............ N XXXX
