Nonsense.....just as long as you don't look like you are trying to be 20 again. I have recently got myself a completely 'new' going with the times haircut, a bit longer ,and have had nothing but compliments. It goes with my backpack and my echofriendly paper wallet ;) I sound like a hippy with dreadlocks.....hahaha edited by Nomad on 05/02/2013

I know echochic gave you good advice on the main board, just wanted to ask, have your dogs been neutered. I had a dog who lifted his leg in the most inconvenient of spots. Had him 'fixed' and he cleaned up his act to a few favorite spots.

Wow some really good replies ladies. I think it was Kiwiwhispers who mentioned that having no 2 multiplies your love.I can honestly say having grand children makes it 3 times as much. My one son in his 30's has broken off 2 relationships because he doesn't want kids....... he is adamant. His argument is that he doesn't want to bring children into this world with all it's problems. That being said he adores his niece and nephew. My other son has given me 2 precious grandchildren. Not 65 yet but getting there and I couldn't imagine my life without my children and G children.Yes they can be a handful and I have friends, who never had kids, when they visit me they remark on how noisy it is and how do I cope with a house full of kids,G kids, cats, barking dogs and a naughty parrot (yes I live in a zoo !)........but thats what works for me. We are all different ,for some kids are everything after marriage but for others it is not.....who are we to judge. What I love is the times we live in people are not as quick to remark on ones childless status. Years agoI had a friend who tried for years to concieve, you wouldn't believe how manypeople would comment on the fact she was childless when everyone around her was 'popping out babies'.My heart just broke for her.As Pinks said spare a thought for those who would love a baby but can't.:( As has been said a very personal choice.

As a 'western' MIL who lived in the ME for many years I can see your dilema. I would as simples says ,if it just a few months until you move to the states, suck it up as best you can. These issues tend to grow legs and it could be thrown back at you in the future. However if it is a permanent issue you will really have to lay your cards on the table with DH.To my mind yes at the moment he is living in a virtual stone age, there is a reason his parents left the states when they did and returned to the ME.They were probably more comfortable with the way things worked. Most importantly don't take it personally, they are stuck in a time warp and it sounds like what ever you do it will never be enough for the out laws. Look ahead to the time you will be heading back to the states and grit your teeth when it get too much.:) JMHO (all the best)

Has anyone got a DH who is a 'perfect balance' ? :):) Should I be apologizing if I say "yes" ? Well, having thought about it I guess neither of us has anything to apologise about. Thirty seven years together, not blessed with children but still having a fabulous life together - what more could we ask for? A mushroom bag?? ;)

AlI I can add is we were so glad we stayed with Co Acc and if you watch the consumption you can stay within the allowed DEWA amount. If you take the furnished option it is paid off over I think 5 years. If you furnish yourself you get a set amount which is also paid back over the same period. IWhen you furnish yourself you do get to choose but as has been mentioned you arrive to an empty villa,so if you are going for this option arrange your shipping(if you are) to co incide as close as possible. Sorry can't give you any advice about the salary. All the best.

khatoon DH and I have been married many years and I have yet to get a Valentines Day card from him.I really don't need a card to know how much he loves me,he shows it all year......OK sometimes not soooo much;);) Your fella sounds like a really nice person , I have to agree with those who have said it is all about how he treats you 365 days of the year. Take the lead yourself if need be but don't expect him to feel the same way about the day as you do. Personally I think it is just another trumped up day for that big fat money making 'you have to' machine. Good point AA about Christmas, the whole meaning about the birth of Christ has been lost along the way.

I was swimming with my kids in the Ritz Carlton and DH spotted a man taking pics of DD and I. He called security and they brought the camera over to DH so that he could view and delete them himself....and lets just say the pics were zoomed in to certain areas and not innocent at all. In the end the police had to come and take him as he had over 4000 pics of women and children taken in various places in Dubai. He was on a tourist visa but ended up having his stay extended at the Dubai Hilton .... I am sure he was happy to finally leave a few months later. This is just so creepy, glad you put him away, hopefully he won't be back. I know it sounds silly but thisis one of the reasons I steer clear of FB and other sites. When I share photos with family and friends I specifically ask them not to share on FB etc.Yes I know there are privacy settings but in my mind it just makes me feel safer. edited by Nomad on 30/01/2013

Was writing a reply when the thread was deleted. commentater2012 so sorry for your loss. May your friend RIP. May the poor soul who lost his life today RIP. I too have lost loved ones and freinds on MC'S , literally grew up on one transported wedged between my mom and dad most times without a helmet (back in the early 50's )..... From my grandfather right down to my son rode MC's..... The day my son came to visit and announced 'Mom I have bought XYZ high powered MC ' I completely lost it.....screamed myself hoarse and refused to speak to him until he got rid of it. A few weeks later while out on a ride together his friend was killed in front of him.The next day DS sold the bike walked in hugged me tight and said' I am so sorry Mom I would never want to put you through what R's Mom is going through now'. MC's are dangerous to ride, in many cases because drivers on the road do not drive with them in mind.Yes some MC riders drive dangerously.....I have been know to stop at a set of lights and give a young man quite the lecture....but many aren't. It wasn't until the early 70's that helmets became the law in many countries, in some States in the the US it is still lawful to ride without one ! The world and the roads have changed and today I personally would not get onto one it is just too dangerous. To those out there who ride take care and to fellow motorists keep and eye out. I took part in a test that the metro newspaper did a few years ago about getting out and about in london With a disability. He had a person with a blindfold, someone with crutches, someone in a wheelchair and I was the women with a new born in a buggy. It was shocking. Most of the stations only have stairs so me and the person in the wheelchair were completely stumped. The blind person was pushed and shoved and completely stuck when he walked up to a barrier and was swiping his card and trying to get through but the machine was not working. It was something out of a comedy sketch. I has to sit on the floor with a baby on my lap to fold the buggy whilst waiting for the train as the able bodied passengers chose to look up at the ceiling and ignore me rather than offering me a seat. I was refused entry onto a train with my folded buggy because the train is too full ! On the flip side, Bus drivers would lower the bus to allow me in, some staff would help me up the stairs with the buggy as well as passengers. Its about education and awareness. So agree,I was so amazed when we first got to Japan.A whole class of teenagers at various traffic intersections ,some in wheelchairs some with blindfolds and white canes some on crutches etc. with able bodied class mates assisting. Spoke to a Japanese friend who said yes it is part of school lessons. I was brought up to have utmost respect for those with disabilities,in fact we had someone in our class with disabilities and boy if anyone messed with her we were all over them.... Maybe something that teachers could suggest be included.....:):) edited by Nomad on 28/01/2013

I am sure many will agree with me that a person in your position is the one that Gov. assistant organisations are meant to help. You are where you are today through no fault of your own.Take the help graciously, you have two little ones to look after. Please remember that you do have 2 beautiful reasons to look back on your years of marriage...your children. So sorry to hear about your Mom turning on you, though as you say your relationship wasn't too good to start with. She has to live with what she has done, let it go.I too had a serious parental break up and though it is terribly sad for my own sanity I had to let it go. Absolutely! I broke my ankle a few years ago and couldn't believe how uncaring and thoughtless people can be. My DD wheeled me about our local mall and I had folk almost leaping over the chair to get in front of us, several doors closing on me almost jamming my already painful joint in the process. Even got stared at by kids and adults alike with the old chestnut "does she take milk in her tea" when we stopped for lunch. When my best friend visited us in Doha in October 2010, she had just been diagnosed with MND and was beginning to struggle with eating and dribbled a bit. She was roundly stared at and I even heard people tutting and looking disgusted. Not everyone is like that of course and most decent people will go out of their way to help. Oh JoyceB I just love the milk in the tea bit.....at least I was spared that!

DH had a knee op and it broke my heart that people are so downright rude and b@st@rdly. On the London underground, there he is hobbling and in pain on crutches and men and WOMEN are physically shoving him aside in order to get past. Nobody stands up or gives him room. In Dubai, he needed to go somewhere in Sharjah. The cab dropped him on the outskirts of an Industrial area because the industrial area was too sandy and the cabby didn't want to go in there. Hubby had 2 big bags, it was July, he was on crutches. I hope karma bites hard. Some people just have no compassion.....Hope all is well now.

I have had more fortunate encounters, [b'>possibly because I have such a kind face[/b'> :-P I've had a taxi driver physically LIFT (!!!!) my chair WITH ME IN IT (!) up STAIRS when I was PREGNANT! As I nearly cried telling him I'd just go elsewhere! I have had people push my chair down ramps, just running up whilst on phone calls, pushing me down as they continued to talk on their mobiles, then smile, wave and walk off... Many encounters with lovely people. I think that's my karma coming back, so I always tell people now that your good will really come back to you! I've never met you but yes, I believe you do! I tell you it's safer to be on wheels... I never trip over my feet :D So you probably would be struggling to wheel yourself as it would require you to bend your back :S I hope you fix up soon, I think the pain is much worse than the lost mobility! Thank goodness I had DH to wheel me around (I had all heck trying to calm him down when these bullies went for me) as I was hunched over with my right arm totally useless laying on my lap,it was too painful to even lift it. Getting better now and mobile once more but if I cough laugh or sneeze I nearly pass out... A big wake up for me I tell you as I can at least heal and get up and walk again, some don't have that luxury. As you say AA it is all about Karma........ edited by Nomad on 27/01/2013

I feel you need to spend some time working with your baby and cat. It's best to start early and to avoid any unwanted circumstance. it's best to make sure at-least one parent is always around when both baby and cat are together. While your baby may take a while to understand, cats do understand easily and can be trained. Instead of rehoming your cat, work with it. it's also a great way for your baby to see you and the cat in training and it will lead to your child having lots of respect for animals. This is a major cause for most animals in the uae. People never think of the future before taking on an animal and then it's the poor animal that always suffers. Please think of the suggestions above and if need be, separate the two when you are busy with household work but please work with it instead of giving up as giving up is not a solution at all. I believe that the Paws pet planet owner, Michelle is also a cat behaviorist. Speak to her please for help. Great advice, you made a commitment to the cat when you brought it into your home. My chilldren grew up with animals from day one.Wouldn't have it any other way.

Great advice Lolacat :) my DH was a stickler for training our brood,it did wonders. We used to call him farmer brown, he would leave the house to go to the workshop with a motley crue of seven dogs ( all shapes, sizes and breeds ) following in single file :):) They all had utmost respect for him as he was the pack leader. Hopefully icfcfem and dubai 1990 can get their problems sorted.

I think this topic is one that tugs at many mothers hearts.Have to admit to tearing up reading about DR and Beebers and so feel for you MDL. My youngest son is smaller of stature and was constantly picked on when he started at a new school ( we moved around a lot ).Luckily his older brother is a bit of a bruiser so in most cases when they were in the same school he was he his brothers 'body guard'. However in high school DS1 left 3 years before DS2 completed and the bullies knew about it.Things got physical and DS2 was rendered unconscious.........You can imagine the state we were in.School did noting, police did nothing. DS1 behind our backs waited for the culprits after school and had a 'word' with said bullies...they never even glanced at DS2 again. He would never tell us what he said. No misunderstandings here DS1 never laid a hand on anyone ......the threat was enough.Yes I know not PC in todays world but this was a good no of years ago. I think it is so important that we instill in our children from a very early age that bullying is totally unacceptable and the right thing to do is to speak up for the child who is being bullied ,and how important it is to speak up if you are being bullied. As we grow up there will always be bullies and how we handle it as children will help us cope as we go out into the world.......example's DR's DD and Beebers. MDL your daughter sounds like a lovely girl with a mom who is listening, you will get to the other side of this......

You should need an annually renewable license to have children :( Same **** that took the life of the baby last year, when drug fcked mum dropped a TV on his head. Drugs... Alcohol... One requires all lights switched on with children, not intentionally turned off! How many children are in danger RIGHT NOW internationally? Druggo parents, alcoholics, paedophiles, abusers... Best not to think about it. I know how you feel.....at times I cowardly avoid reading these stories as I have 2 precious Grand kids and can imagine how I would feel if they were treated so. We have had really bad cases in Canada in recent years, there seems no end in sight. As you say a truly international problem,it seems no matter where you go Social Services appointed to keep these parents on their radar are always under funded or don't care.....:(

Yes, agree that you do not have to be driving fast - cats are unpredictable and I have witnessed 2 cats ( not at the same time) leap right out in front of a car and there was literally nothing that could have been done to prevent it. This is one reason that people keep their cats indoors. So true, all my fosters in DXB once they left me were inside only cats.Bad drivers ,and the large no of cats that are lost and go missing and of course neighbours who did not appreciate their furry visits.....

A teeny bit if a thread drift.. This muzzle debate is rearing it's head again here in Canada. I have owned/fostered most of the 'dangerous' and many smaller and 'docile' breeds. Personally I feel you should have a 'licence' to own the Pitbull ,Staffie breeds these dogs comewith major responsibility.By licence I mean you should be able to prove responsibility. They are amazing animlas and those we have had loved to chat and intract and are sooooo protective. The downside is that in certain communities they have become the symbol of how Bad A$$ I am and of course bred to fight..yes the origin of the breed was for dog fighting....but we should have evolved beyond that in this day and age. It is a really big problem and nobody seems to have the answer as to ban the breed sends it underground and seems to make the issue worse. I intend to get involved with the debate on a local level and would honeslty like to hear any constructive ( don't want to start any fights just want to share info) suggestions from those of you who have an interest.:) edited by Nomad on 11/01/2013 edited by Nomad on 11/01/2013

I would give Verity a call, haven't used her myself but many have, with success. As you have said as a single dog she might be OK but finding her that loving caring understanding home in DXB will be almost impossible. Her breed is against her, please I am not saying rotties are a bad breed I have had rotties dobies and pitbull mixes myself in fact one saved my mother from an attempted stabbing. Go with your gut as others have said, you know better than anyone where this may be heading. All you can do really is everything you can to change the behaviour, guided by the professionals. If after all avenues have been exhausted and there is no improvement then the kindest thing to do would be to put her to sleep. It is not worth taking a chance with little ones, even adults, and possible contact. All the best.

I think it is part of growing up.No matter how you try to shield your children once they start experiencing the world out there play/school/sleepovers/older cousins etc. they will come across all sorts. My cousin told me about Santa, where babies came from and how ( I was shell shocked for days ewwwwwww) and a host of other horrors. We had no TV , listened to the radio of an evening. There was a programm called Mark Saxon with his side kick Serge,it was a science fiction type programme and they were always fighting some alien. The visions I had in my mind were so real and I had sleepless nights.Funny though even when my folks banned me from listening I would hide outside the living room to hear,I was so scared but couldn't stop myself. My DS saw predator while on a sleepover at my younger brothers house ( the last for a long while ) and was petrified of going to sleep for weeks after. He eventually outgrew it and is now a horror/zombie movie addict...go figure. All you can really do is assure them that home is their place of safety and you are there to protect them from harm.

It's also one way of ensuring that the prospective new owners really want the cat, and are willing to take on a financial burden, rather than just getting a "freebie" and then treating it with an "easy come, easy go" attitude. What I used to do was ask them to make a donation to FF (envelopes availabe from most vets).Yes I was out of pocket but that wasn't the point a good home was the issue.
