Maybe a good idea to get hold of the police and give a description of the car who sped off. My blood boils when I read this as my brother was killed by a drunk driver who ran away leaving him to die.:( The police when they found him couldn't do a blood test as they only found him 2 days later. He got off with a slap on the wrist. No proof that he was drunk other than the guys in the car with my DB who were witnesses. BUT, they were also badly injured so the scumbags lawyer had a field day with their statements. An unbaised witness would have clinched the deal. edited by Nomad on 27/11/2012

People magazine has a good account of what happened.http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20651207,00.html And Radar Online has a good account of what led up to this assault. http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/11/gabriel-aubry-assault-photos-restraining-order-olivier-martinez-surveillance From Radar account looks like GA was set up,will probably be deported back to Canada and have to contest custody from there. What a mess...... ETA maybe I am just feeling sorry for GA as I am sporting a purple/blue shiner just like he is... Knee jerk reaction would be to ask why he hasn't defended me, but I think your OH is being pretty smart. Why stir anything up while trying to sell their property in the UK,best to just get it all done and dusted.Men look at things from a whole other angle where as woman tend to go for emotional side. I think you would be wise to let it go for now.........

OD you are quite right.Have just been talking to a friend who is a nurse. She said the trick is treat it immediatly and always presume it will bruise. I waited until two days after !!!only when the bruise started to appear. Frozen peas or cold pack is the answer, she also suggets the next time ( I bruise easily )I bang myself I take Arnica.I take it for jetlag so have a small supply on hand. Will have to "lurk" behind the sunglasses for the next few days.Tried to disguise it with make up but landed up looking like a very bad Dame Edna!

Dear Hassli, I am so very sorry to read about your news. In May this year my mom was very ill and the doctors did not know if they could stabilise her.Unfortunetly she died before I could get to see her. I was not able to travel immediatly to see her before she passed, due to ill health. I was able to get to the funeral and can honestly say that I "knew" she understood that I was unable to be there.I have felt nothing but peace and love from mom ever since, because she is at last happy and pain free. As far as treatment and sending money is concerned, try and speak to his doctor or get your brother to speak to his doctor. It would do no good for you to send money which will not help his condition.Ask them to be very honest with you. Would it be possible for your family to connect the two of you via computor for a vidoe conferance ? Explain to dad that you are not allowed to travel because of the baby and that you will see him as soon as it is possible. Always remember your thoughts and the love you feel for someone will follow them no matter where they are. I will pray for you and your family....

You can not say "do not support breeders or petshops" as every healthy pet deserves a chance! Its all about pets and not organizations. After living 10 years in U.A.E I understand that it is really hard to find a perfect, healthy pet for your family. To be honest people are very cruel to animals here. I have been helping many organizations here and can tell you that if you have kids then do not bring any unhealthy animals home! What happened to me a year a go was my big mistake. I fostered a couple of dogs from a rescue organization. The dogs were taken from the municipality and were fully treated (vaccinated, dewormed, and microchiped). At the end I found out that they were very infected and had parasites inside. You can not imagine how much money we wasted on doctors for the whole family including my pets. You do something going to people and in return they this to you. What happened to the dogs? The organization sold them. So this is how the system works, they take pets that look like pedigree from the pound and sell them (as adoption fee) if the pet gets to be returned then they sell it again no matter if it is healthy or not. If you are looking for a dog then your best bet is K9 friends, they have healthy dogs and most of them have nice characters. There are some pedigree breeder but they are really hard to find so you should consider importing. Backyards breeder are the same as cats ones, they may have dogs that look like pedigrees but they are not registered as pure breed and most of them have healthy problems as they are kept in inappropriate environment. For the cats as I mentioned earlier your best bet is to visit vets, they always have healthy and beautiful cats available for adoption. Breeding animals is legal in U.A.E, only if the animals are kept in good condition. You can visit municipality and make sure yourself. And finally there are pure pedigree breeders in U.A.E. Same as cats and dogs. They are registered with WCF and CFA. If you visit them, you will see the difference. All of their pets are in really good condition and treated just the way we treat our own pets. Hi Humanitarian, I for one have never doubted your commitment to animals but have to disagree with a few things you have said. Firstly buying from pet shops all you do is free up another space for them to import another poor wee soul from who knows where. It is all about the MONEY. Buying from a petstore just feeds the perpetual breeding machine. The sad thing is that soooooo many of these pedigree animals are thrown out on the streets of Dubai. Once the cuteness wears off and the care of the animal becomes a hassel for the new owner, walking, grooming and feeding vet bills kenneling and the MOST important issue taking the animal with you when you leave DXB,in many cases it gets thrown out. When you buy from a pet store you are not asked 'will you look after this animal for the rest of it's life..give it vet care feed it etc. and take it back with you when you leave'? NO the only thing they care about is 'How are you going to pay for it'.......... Many posters have come on here to warn people NOT to buy from pet stores as they were personally having problems with very sick and dying animals. The paper work is regularly altered to make the animlas that have been 'in stock' a long time , 'younger'. I have personally been involved with puppy mill rescues and it is enough to put you off of any form of breeding forever. It nearly broke my heart and I had to stop doing hands on rescue work as I actually had nightmares for years after. With regards to bringing unhealthy foster animals into your home. It is never a good idea to put any animal in with the household pets/kids before at least a few days if not a few weeks of isolation. To say the rescue organisation 'sold' the animals is a bold statement. They are not allowed to 'sell' animals, those that I worked with in DXB ONLY EVER asked for a donation to cover the vet costs of the animal etc.In many cases the donation did not even begin to cover the actual costs. When you take a donation it is a good litmus test to see the commitment that the new owner has to their new pet. If on the very rare occasion I had an animal returned I always offered to return the donation........not once did they ever want their donation back..... I am sorry that your experience with regard to fostering was not a good one. As to the 'legal' breeding of animals in the UAE I am going to further research the info you have posted as I was only ever told (yes by the municipality ) that there are no registered breeders in the UAE only 'Hobby Breeders'. I fully agree that K9 are a wonderful organisation and there are others,Animal Action AD ,Posh Paws and as this thread is about cats what about Feline Freinds& Bin Kitty Collective. All are only interested in the welfare of the strays of DXB.:) ETA I have been on the WCF site and have not been able to find any registered breeders of the breeds you mentioned earleir , in the UAE.Have emailed CFA to find out re registered breeders in the UAE. edited by Nomad on 26/11/2012

Hi going to try but i leave day after tomorrow so running out of time ....if I bring it in the apartment then it will be even more confused when I leave and how am I ever going to be able to do that anyway! Tried residents, security and anyone i see but they are not interested :(( I have started to stalk a cleaner and pay him to look after the kitty but he does not have a clue what I am going on about and keeps wondering why a strange woman is offering him money! Plssssssssssssssssss if anyone is able help the poor baby.....plssssssssssssss x Have you tried the rescue groups I have mentioned ? You will have to be pro active as it is only a slim chance that someone on here will be able to help, what with all the strays in DXB. As I said I would try the vets...throw yourself at their mercy....hehe. Please don't leave it to die in the parkade,I would much rather you hand it in at the vet and if all else fails, to be peacefully put down rather than run over or starve.:'( Forget the cleaners the minute you turn your back they will forget the animal existed.. You have me so worried about the poor mite...heres hoping you can get it sorted. edited by Nomad on 25/11/2012

Cats are lactose intolerant. DO NOT give it milk as this will upset their stomach. If you want to feed it, then get some kitten food. Good point rather give it a bowl of water...

Explain your situation , and ask very nicely for any assistance. You can also give Animal Action AD ,Bin Kitty Collective, and Feline Friends a call and ask then for any assistance. Hopefully one of the other rescue ladies see this and are able to help. Please don't give up on this baby. Is it possible for you to rescue it from the garage in the meantime so that it is out of danger? All the best and thanks for caring....

My family back home were exactly the same.As the years went on all we got was a phone call. At first it really hurt but after a while I just let it go,it was just not worth getting into a state.I also stopped going to the effort of sending goodies home.Instead I really spoiled the family when we went home and bought them something to cover birthdays and Christmas.Less hassel and everyone is happy. Maybe an idea to take the money and buy DS a present, something he really likes, without him knowing that it hasn't been posted from home...

Anchor18 In your op you mention your husband will be working for an airline. Is he a pilot ?. Personally having spent 30+years as an expat both in the ME and elsewhere, I have seen time and time again that those marriages that were shaky before they left home never made it.......Soooo many, both husband and wife, had such good intenions of making a 'new start' only to have it all end in tears. I would honestly stay put if I were you, however if you decide to move, possibly look at joining him once he has been through his training. If he is a pilot the training puts a lot of pressure on the guys for the first few months which strains even the most stable of marriages....... You have got a lot of really good feedback from the ladies here hopefully it will help you make your decision. All the very best. edited by Nomad on 23/11/2012

Sorry forgot to add...the local Pet Shops also have pets imported but no one is sure exactly where they have come from. Posters have bought from these shops only to get the pet home and it is very ill,in some cases even dying after huge vet bills. It is a minefield out there for those looking for particular breeds. Dare I suggest that you look at a rescue kitten ........Take a look at the adoption websites, you could just possibly fall in love :):) edited by Nomad on 21/11/2012

Please RozRoz don't support the backyard breeders in the UAE. If you are set on getting a British Short Hair conatct the SPCA or any other animal organisation in your home country. You can then import the cat. They can steer you in the direction of an ETHICAL breeder.Yes it requires a bit more effort /finances but in the long run you will get a healthy animal that has been ethically bred. As I mentioned earlier have you contacted the cat rescue folk in DXB and AD, many pedigree cats are thrown out on the streets when their owners have no further use for them ? HTH.

Actually I've always rather enjoyed Gorobatties lopsided, lengthy sentences and the dents and faults in her posts added charm - for me - to [b'>her always sound advice[/b'>. It was refreshingly different from the crisp one liners posters usually leave. I was thinking the same thing :) Gorabottie has a good sense of humor, and has often given very sound advice regarding marriage trouble, relationships, and the like--especially to women who have posted that are being taken advantage of. She puts a lot of time into her replies. It is obvious she is very keen on the take with things of this nature. So she got close with one of her maids during a really stressful part of her life. I personally wouldn't mind honest advice given to me on this forum, but the comments about inappropriate relations with her DH and the other party--that was quite insulting--who could blame her reaction? Gorabottie, you are an asset to this forum and I'm sure you'll get through this situation just fine now that you've gotten it off your chest. x **Like** Gorabottie your posts in the past have a lot of insight and I love the way you "put pen to paper" so to say.You seem to have an inner compass when giving advice about those who have been taken advantage of , use it now as you move forward. With regard to your command of English.....I think it is amazing for someone who is self taught.Don't let a few negative posts influence your time on EW. :) edited by Nomad on 20/11/2012

So OP has done what she can and everyone is thankful for this. However, she is also responsible for the cat's death and everyone is just focusing on one inappropriate comment. Op's second post mentions 'the man who was driving' took her to the vet....... Just to add, stray cats dart into traffic all the time. The issue is OP took the trouble to try to save the cat after the 'accident'.A lot more than many who just leave the animal to die.

I wouldn't say EW makes me feel good about myself, for me it is more a case of being 'understood'.By that I mean most of us who contribute have one big factor in common we are expats. Not just expats but expats in the ME. Having returned home I am once again reminded of how the people I interact with have no idea of what life in other parts of the world is like.Yes they have done a trip here there and everywhere but in many cases they only see the tourist side of things. The threads about visting home for the holidays and how family and friends don't understand the time restraints of a trip home etc.etc.Unless you have been there you can never understand what it is like. This was one of the most contentous issues I had when going home.So much so that I would not tell some freinds that I was home to avoid unpleasantness. I am also of the nature that if I can roll a stone out of someones way with advice/help it makes my day. As AA has said I have also 'met' some really nice ladies on EW.:) edited by Nomad on 15/11/2012

Putting him down is just not an option I can think about. He is neutered. I will look into Churchills thanks. I'm just really worried about what 7 months in a cattery will do to him. I think cats are pretty resilient, sorry you said Tom so thought still had his testicles attached! I think one of those nice outdoor cages/runs would be ok and I'm sure Fiona would give him a daily dose of cuddles. You are so right Lolacat. I have carted cats to 5 different countries and on 3 occasions I had to leave them in Kennels, once for 6 months. I could not even begin to think of putting them down. Cats are so resilient and independant they bounce back so quickly once they are in their new home re united with their loved ones. The key is to make sure they are in a good cattery that gives them stimulation, play time and human contact during their stay.If this is the route you are going make sure all your shots rabies etc. are up to date for the cattery and the move to your new home. The chances of finding him a home in DXB are slim to none AND the stress you will go through will be dreadful. Before we left DXB I had an outside kitty who adopted us(2 weesk before we left!) when he was abandoned. The stress of the move was secondary to what I went through trying to find Outside Baby a home.Eventually I did find him a home with a neighbour ,thank goodness. It was a little easier as I hadn't had too much time to bond with him.Believe me it is really hard handing over a much loved pet to a new family. All the very best with your decision.

Co-codamol contains coedine. Even with a prescription i wouldn't risk bringing it in Anyone remember the woman arrested for 5 tempazepam tablets and she had a prescription. It is such a grey area i wouldnt risk it. Now if prescribed here by a Dr you are covered. Sound advice louisedvs why take the chance.I understood that Coedine could not be brought in under any circumstances and when in desperate pain was prescribed Tramadol. My doctor advised me AGAINST bringing Coedine into the UAE with or without a prescription. To those giving advice that it is OK , how dreadful would you feel IF your advice proved wrong on that particular day. To OP I would not risk it. I was prescribed Tramadol after a back injury and had to show my ID card at the hospital which they said is so the police have a record that it was prescriped properly Yep - same when I picked up my Trammies. I would not risk bringing codeine either, the rules may make no sense (can't bring it in but can have it on prescription here), if there is an alternative then do use it. All it takes is one person at immigration to stop you and boom.... I would never ever risk it Exactly, and how they read the law on that particular day.Without a doubt and it would not be pleasant I am sure "waiting" to find out from the inside of a cell.

Thanks for your reply.. I have looked in Dubizzle and there are no british shorthair kittens even pets habitat. Would rather not go through pet shops though. Please don't use pets shops .If you have your mind set on a particular breed contact all the kitty rescue groups first. Feline Friends, Bin Kitty Collective, Animal Action and ask if they know of any that have been rescued. Also you could contact any of the vet offices near you. There are NO registered breeders in DXB,only backyard breeders who keep the animals in deplorable conditions. At one time FF exposed a theft ring who were going around stealing pedigree cats from their owners and selling them for thousands. If you can't source one here contact your local SPCA/Humain Society in your home country for the details of an ethical breeder and bring it over yourself. HTH. :) edited by Nomad on 14/11/2012

Is the not case at all.... most are transfered to K9 unless there are beyond help. This is what K9 will suggest as they are absolutely full at the moment edited by roysie on 11/11/2012 how can they be transferred to K9 if they are "absolutely full" ? When they have space... again... this was not suppose to turn into a cat fight (as per normal) I just gave the number to the OP. It is always best to check on your advice with regards to rescue/surrender situations as things can change so rapidly.I personally have never heard of the Municipality contacting the rescue organisations. It would require extra work.It has always been the rescuers doing check ups at the pound and then appealing for foster homes. But them again I would loved to be mistaken.

To me the photo says it all. I can remember my Grandad, a veteran from WW1, dressing up with his medals. I was so proud of him as I grew up learning just what he had gone through in the trenches, for my freedom. In my opinion it is all to do with PC gone haywire and the result is more or less a slap in the face of those who have fought for freedom through the ages.Linking it to religion is just a cop out. Oh JoyceB I can remember when I was a Brownie and we went to the town hall for the Rememberance Day ceremony,I felt so important in my uniform. On Sunday we will all be standing proud at our local ceremony paying respect to my dear Pop and others in the family who faught for the freedoms we enjoy today.

OP sorry can't advise where you can get Cream/capules but thought I would add my experience with estrogen. Initially I had an awful time trying to reach a balanced level of estrogen. I now have a great GP who works with my Homeopath.I started off with the cream and after 2 weeks was still having severe swings with the hot flashes V dryness.H/P suggested we double up on the cream but I had instant raging flashes. The GP then suggested I needed the esrtogen boost internally rather than topically. Was changed to Estroil/Estrodial/Bi-Est capsules and symptoms vanished within two days. Doesn't solve your problem of locating said hormone but thought I would share as I have been to h3ll and back going through the change and could have solved months of agony if I had of known these facts. Hope you are able to source it soon,am sure the ladies on EW will come up with info for you . :) edited by Nomad on 10/11/2012

NAS always went above and beyond when it came to my fosters.I would often get there to find Carolyne carrying one of my furbabies around who "just needed a cuddle". When it came to our special needs, Squirt, they actually restored her sight.Amazing folk......

I did have a chuckle when I walked into the kitchen this evening and saw a ruler on the countertop.... I had to ask him what it was for and his reply was.... I had to make sure all the vegetables were 2 inches according to the recipe! Aaaaaarrrgghhhh! I had to read this to my DH.Wasn't too surprised when his reply was " but that makes perfect sense " say no more...... Like you joyceB we have been married since the 70's but sadly after many attempts at cooking DH has been banned, his food tastes dreadful.Bless him he really did try. However he is an ace handyman;) To TDB as others have said I wouldn't be too worried about the cleaning up if the meal is halfway decent, once LO arrives any help is great.
