I know a silly question but have you contacted the cab co.? Cancell your cards follow up with emails and as elle13211 says it can all be replaced. Take a deep breath and pour yourself a nice glass of whatever or make a nice cup of tea.

When the garden souk moved I arranged for a few of the kitties to be trapped/neutered and realesed in a nearby area. I borrowed traps and got our vet to do the neauters at a very good rate.FF are at capacity but would possibly assist with traps and getting a good rate for you. Maybe appeal on here for a few concerned souls to give you a hand. NIP not having a go , these cats are somewhat tame and are fed regualrly by staff and passeres by. I personally tried to ease the animals hard life on the streets and did my bit to controll the continued cycle of breeding of unwanted animlas. For me it was not trying to rescue all the strays of Dubai but to try and make the life they had a bit more tolerable. HTH Sam CT

I would def take the kitty to the vet. Did you rescue him from the street or get him from one of the rescue groups ?. Remember to let the vet know he is a rescue and you will possibly get a break on the charges. All the best, hope it all works out.

When dealing with the Municipality. a good idea to actually go down then and have a squizz yourself. Many times the decsription you give them and what they percieve it to be are very different.I know not a nice place to have to visit but go and have a look for yourself.

Each time i have blown a tyre an Emirati F1 team has appeared from nowhere jacked up my car and changed the tyre in minutes They have pulled me out of sand, stopped when i had an accident etc etc. Big shout out to the locals! Love the Emirati F1 referance. I have to agree, happened to me on a few occasions and I am an" old gran".They were so respectful and helpful.

Thanks Sue as you can see this one runs real close to the bone! @brand_new as has been mentioned come on to the forum and ask away. There are so many lovely non aviation and aviation ladies on here who are a mine of information. @ bettyb a DEC ia a Direct Entry Captain. The aviation industry in the past was almost always strictly based on a seniority list.In other words you started right at the bottom of the ladder and climbed your way up when the rung above you became vacant. The pilots unions watched said ladder very closely to make sure the no one missed a rung. If you joined a "legacy " carrier say BA , United, Air Canada etc. you had no option but to start at the bottom no matter if you had way more experience or qualification than the person above or below you. However the independant carriers who didn't have unions were able to hire and slot pilots into the positions that fitted their requirements, at specific points in time ,for example Emirates are now hiring DEC's. The irony is that some First Officers joining these independent carriers seem to forget that they join these carriers in the first place as the path to command is based more on your ability than on time served as it were. The wait time at the moment is about 4 years. EK generally hire only FO's but every so often they hire DEC's to cover their requiremnets. There are however some FO's who have been Captains before and to get into the airline they take a FO position at that point in time. HTH. Good luck to DH with the interview brand_new.:) edited by Nomad on 01/03/2012 edited by Nomad on 01/03/2012

Hi Jetset, On the left of the page under Featured Links on the Pets and Vets section there is a guide on what to do when you lose a pet.Good advice and many pet owners have found their pets using these and other tips. A good one is walikg around your neighbourhood in the quite of an evening with a biscuit box shaking it and callings his name. Many are just confused and are hiding in a nearby garage or shed or garden. Good Luck.

Hi brand_ new, I was in the same position some years back. In fact on a previous thread I mentioned how badly some FO wives behaved toward me when they found my DH was a DEC. My opinion is, if your husband has the QUALIFICATION and THE EXPERIENCE required by the company, who has the right to deny you the right to earn a living.EK has a VERY HIGH standard when it comes to the selection and training of their DEC's. My husband brought 25+years of International experience with him to EK, therewas the odd cold shoulder on the flight deck but by the end of each flightthese had been ironed out,as his experience spoke louder than any words. What really gets to me is the "all DEC's are useless" approach from some. My husband has worked long and hard to become a pilot, sim instructor etc.etc. and also had his turn at waiting in the RHS while others were hired as DEC's bypassing him.But you know why, they had more experience than he did at the time.I am not 100% on this but I think at present the wait for a FO joining has been about 4 years (over the last decade that is).In the avaiation industry world wide the average wait for joining a legacy carrier to becoming a Captian is 15 to 20 years . EK and a number of other ME "Legacy" type carriers who fly widebody AC have certainly cut that wait down. EK have hired DEC's since it's inception it is not as if this comes as a big surprise, those who join as FO's know that this is always a possibility. I have been following the tirades on the aforementiond pilots newtwork and honestly I have to constantly remind myself that it is not a bunch of children fighting in a playground. As has been said over and over again EK are a business and they do what they have to to keep the airacraft in the air. Irooni what a wonderful welcome. Once again to brand_new all the very best enjoy the adventure and don't let any negative nellies be part of your decision. There are others out there like Irooni,I had wonderful friends who's DH's were FO's.They were adult enough to get to know me for who I was not who I was married to. All the very best and Fly Safe N XX To add STILLadviceseeker great advice (LOL) some of the best friends I made were not involved in avaition at all, what a breath of fresh air.... edited by Nomad on 01/03/2012

If the co.is paying for the shipping I would bring special pieces from the ME, who knows when and if you will ever get the opportuniy again. If they aren't paying I would only bring over the most precious of belongings.Things like photo albums kids favorite toys very personal stuff. We came with only a few boxes Co didn't pay for shipping and we were skint.I furnished the house with garage sale "treasures" am still using many of these today ! We bought new mattresses and a few kitchen items new. Maybe not such a good idea to worry about size of rooms etc.until you actually get there. Until you actually "feel" and find the right house in the right area you might have to comropmise on some things. As far as electrical and electronics are concerned I would not chance it and sell what you have in DXB.Futureshop Best Buys etc. have good deals and on the whole tend to be cheaper than the ME.Re kitchen appliances I bought second hand or went to the scratch and dent section at the appliance stores regularly until I got a bargain. HTH

Thats OK. GST is a general sales tax applied to most everything.Groceries, cars, houses, furniture etc.It is added at purchase point. HST is a little more complicated hopefully someone can explian it better than I. My "blonde" moment LOL.I live in a province that has no HST. Schooling starts at 5, K1 if you go for state / government schooling it is generally governed by where you live. Always check out the catchment area with the school board don't take the realtors word for it they have been known to "stretch" the catchment areas. Also check school transportation with the school board.

Hi Gabsgirl, Depending on where in BC you want to move to ie Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in Canada. It is also one of the most beautiful. Weather is good although can be a bit overcast.Milder winter. Do a search on the 10 most affordable cities in Canada and it should give you an idea. Another factor is the GST HST issue, it is different from province to province. To get an idea of the price of housing do a search on Mls.ca click on the map and then zoom in to where you were thinking of moving to.This will give you an idea of whats available in the area. As far as rental is concerned in Western Canada do a search on Kijiji followed by the city where you want to settle. ie Kijiji Vancouver. Will add if I think of any more. HTH All the best.

I tried the coffee mornings three times when I first came to Dubai - it just wasn't my scene and found it really hard work to introduce myself to people. It didn't help that on 2 occassions when I tried to sit down I was told that the seats were being kept for the ladies' friends. However I did make friends through the EW events - the atmosphere seems different at them. The seat guardians should not exist in this kind of arrangement, seriously. WM loved your "seat guardian " saying. I went to one coffee morning (not EW) and had the same "seat guardian" experience. Worst thing for me was I was soooooo much older that most of the girls there, got looked up and down.So sad really but then due to my "mature years " was able to look at it for what it was.An opportunity to get together and pull some who had not attended to pieces. Not my cuppa. Motivated me to get involved in organisations with like minded people ( animal welfare ) win win.

As has been said before.Until the animals in the zoo in DXB have been sorted why bring in more.Oh yes that's right "we can make a load of dosh at Ski Dubai with people petting live penguins". So who gives a monkeys about the animals at the zoo. Sorry I don't buy the article in the paper about the zoo. How many years have they promised to do something about it. My point being how can you have people touching these penguins when they are suscetible to human diseases?Oh sorry forgot they are there to bring in the dosh. edited by Nomad on 20/02/2012

A new penguin exhibit has just opened up at US Zoo. (would never darken it's doors....). Had heard that visitors get the opportunity to actually stroke them at Ski Dubai. Is this true? edited by Nomad on 20/02/2012

Thats just it, she was famous and touched many of our lives with her beautiful voice. On a previous Whitney Houston thread I have voiced my opinions on addiction from a personal perspective. My feelings on watching snippets of the funeral are ,as opposed to MJ's funeral, this was held in the church she worshipped in as a girl. The gospel singing was beautiful and heartfelt as were the words of those who knew and loved her. I think that it was as "private" as could be expected , it was televised I assume to include all her fans from all over the world. If you are bored or don't want to watch what is being shown on a particular channel, reach for the remote..... Her music brings back some wonderful memories of times past and I couldn't hold back the tears when her own voice singing " I Will always Love You" played as they carried her coffin out. As a preacher said at the funeral, "we all went to church today". Have to add CNN as they sometimes do carry on a bit after the fact. They are going over the enitire funeral again.....so reaching for the remote ;) edited by Nomad on 19/02/2012

I hate to be the only person to say this, but before you even get into kennels, please I hope you're not considering 'buying' these puppies from a pet shop or any of the so called 'breeders' here. :( You're not the only one to think it. xx Hopefully this is not the case. Would it not be possible for these babies to stay with their mom until you get back. If your are in fact buying them from a pet shop or so called "breeders" here I would urge you to re think the whole matter. Google Puppy Farms and you will get an idea of what these little mites go through.:( Hopefully you will take all the really good advice given on here and make the right decision. ;)

SD a big factor to consider is the stress involved in commuting. Travelling today is anything but easy. What was really difficult for us as a family was DH was away for long periods. When he came home there were major issues. I was used to making ALL the decisions while he was away and now he was home I had to now "share" my role and then poof he was gone again. On looking back I do not reccomend it .However, in our case it was basically the only way to put food on the table and a roof over our heads. A difficult desision and one that should be very carefully considered. All the very best. N XX

This my Q, to leave this thread. Please, I mean only to support the Iranian people in my comments. My problem is with Iran's government and, in fact, the way my Iranian friends have fled their homeland as a result. It is my firm belief that Iran's international and domestic policies in no way reflect the will or opinion of the majority of its people. At any rate, I do sincerely apologize if my comments on Iran's politics offended you. It was absolutely not my intention. edited by WB72 on 15/02/2012 I vividly remember the videos of the peaceful demonstartions in Iran and what the authorities did.I can't even begin to imagine how worried the people of Iran must be right now.I can't get into the politics as I don't know enough to comment. My prayers and thoughts are with those that get caught in the middle through no fault of their own.

I have a severe case of Spinal Stenosis. It sometimes gets so bad that I cannot walk.Due to a family history of severe drug abuse of pain killers I am petrified to take anything. When I had the last flare up in DXB the doctors gave me Tramadol. DH conviced me to at least try one.I was in so much pain that I gave in and took it.I felt completely not in control and spaced out.Yes it took the pain away for a few hours but when it eventually wore off the pain was still there. I read up about it( not the insert) and promptly flused them down the loo. All I can add is be careful with prescription pain meds, they are very addictive. Research the alternatives as most are very addictive and many doctors will just prescibe more to get you out the office.

Monnie, please try resolve this asap. Document your complaints and take it right to the top. This is abuse of the worst kind and can have a very negative long term effect on your daughter. In Canada at the moment there is case in court where a bullied child took his own life.I really don't want to alarm you but you must take action to finally end the bullying. If it means moving her, she will make new friends. My youngest was bullied badly and thank goodness I found out about it in time. I went to the school and when they watered it down I threatened to go to the police. Something was done. The effects however lived with him for a long time. Big hugs to you both XXX

You should also check with the airline you are travelling with. There is an international standard re how far into your term you can travel, but as a pilots wife I have travelled extensively and seen some pretty stressed situations. One particular case the lady was rather large in the belly and despite pleas and doctors letters they would not let her travel. Don't want to burden you with additional baggage but always good to check. All the best with the birth. :)
