Gosh where do I start with this one. Okay, consumers in this down turn period have less to spend, smaller chickens are slaughtered at a younger age, therefore a lighter weight. The average broiler chicken i.e. bred for slaughter and a cheap source of protein has a cycle from chick to slaughter of about 49 days - yup that's it. Slaughtering at a younger, lighter weight mean more birds in the giant warehouses that are used to rear them. It's all down to economics. These are farm warehouse reared birds that are very often given growth hormones etc to make them mature faster. You want a bigger bird? Freerange. The farmers that are in based in the UAE are not allowed to give hormones or medicine like anti-biotics. If you want to have the healthiest option, go for the local (UAE) chickens. Not the ones from KSA, UK or France. The shorter the time between slaughter and being in the supermarket, the fresher thus the better.

Holy Cow Ladies. Why are you all still here??? There are a whole lot of us who are happy here. We married pilots. Missing important times is the norm, always, shift work for heavens sakes. You signed on. Emirates is short of pilots right now. The 380 fleet has taken the Jam trips and the 777 is the workhorse of the airline so thats what they do... Air time. Max is 900 hrs a year, just like Europe. And fyi, in Canada it is 1,000hrs/hr.....24/7 operation here in Dubai. Meydan accommodation. I have been in them. It is not like a labour camp! went to a party at 'Motown'!! or really called Meydan south. So far the 1st 30 OLD PEOPLE have moved in and most are fine. Yes it is different but the area will grow quickly. Look at what people said about Silicon when they moved there!!! btw, the kitchens in 'Motown' are happy about the huge kitchens compared to what they came from. They seem to be very philosophical about the whole thing. Another excitment I guess. Sure as **** not labour camps for heavens sakes. Driving you get used to..no problem. What seemed like a long way eventually is no problem. I guess you have to ask your husband why he wants to come here. I certainly would not get stuck on pprune. As for planning, we have christmas when he gets home. Until we moved here he never had holidays in the summer. One year we spread out christmas out over 5 days lol....we holiday without him and he joins us. We try hard to be positive rather than live with this huge black cloud over our heads.. If we did that we would be so crippled by anger we would just have to leave :(..... So come. It is not a life sentence. You are not committing yourself to years of horrid living and livingin a slum.....If you are given a bunch of lemons....make the best lemonade you ever made. Make the best of what you have and run with it.!!!! Jump and Arm Pump . I have to add. If you start hanging with negative people you will eventually be pulled in. Find positive people who can work around things.....Look on the bright side of life!!! SueB, please tell what you're smoking so others can have a drag as well

From an employer point of view: you'll be most probably located in Meydan. There will be no choice in the near future. Meydan South is still under construction, has no facilities (pool, gym etc) and nothing else around. This will change, but it will take a few years. Meydan Heights is a bit more established. Pilots are leaving, and recruitment isn't catching up. This results in lots of flying hours for the current pilots. Months with 100+ flying hours are now the norm, not the exception. Be prepared that you and your children won't see much of your husband. Take the above heavily into consideration before you start thinking of the climate, schools, babygroups etc.

Sorry, but I find the whole concept of "pocket money " within a marriage appalling. You should have access to all funds and be able to spend as you please. If at some point your husband finds you have the wrong priorities or overspend, you can talk about it and work it out. +100

Gosh after their third birthday !!! They start nursery here after three but you get 15 hours of free nursery per child . I terms of school fees has anyone had experience of having no education allowance and then negotiating to have education funded ? We have done some calculations and feel that 48000 AED would allow us to be just on the cusp of being comfortable -not much saving at all! To be honest though moving to Dubai would not just be about tax free earnings for us it would also be a lifestyle choice . So confused !!!!! The youngest ones in KG1 started at 2 years and 8 months this school year. About the package: main drive to relocate to Dubai is the ability to save money. If you'll hardly save money with your husband's package, then you should strongly reconsider taking the offer. Inflation is high and the salary packages are not being increased to keep on par with rising life expenses. I don't want to discourage you, but go into it with eyes wide open.

Yes, without hesitation. One of the best decisions I ever made, both personally and career wise (although the latter was pure luck really). Notnewintown - are you in Qatar? Not that there aren't people who would give the same response about Qatar but it's a very different country and lifestyle to Dubai. I know several people who would answer 'no' for a Qatar posting and 'yes' for a Dubai one for example. Probably not many the other way round but the OP is asking about a job in Qatar. I was in Qatar and I intend to keep it that way.

How does an educated European passport holder with academic qualifications coming out their ears who has worked in human rights in an NGO believe after 20 days they cannot get straight on a plane back to their home country? Nonsense, don’t understand a word of it. Get straight on a plane with a one way ticket back to your home country. File for divorce and get yourself tested as advised wisely by the ladies on here. With such qualifications you are employable and you must have someone you can stay with, 20 days is a holiday. Exactly. I hope you're reading this Anna. And Sarahlou: the savings account story is simply not correct.

The majority of my previous posts got edited or deleted, so I will not repeat what I have said. 1. Get yourself tested 2. DO NOT GET PREGNANT 3. Find your way back to The Netherlands ASAP All 3 steps to be taken simultaneously. As for step 3: what you're saying is not true. As a Dutch citizen you can still hold a bank account/savings account. The tax man is not even allowed to touch any money on there. Even if you don't have any family and friends to fall back on, you can still phone institutions back home who will give you the right information so you can properly prepare your way back. Get in touch with your former employer and see if you can arrange something. No time for a pity party, you're still young. Grab control of your life with your hands. Good luck.

When will my rent drop then? If people aren't buying, would mean more are renting, so can't really see a huge drop in rent. Wrong. It's all about supply and demand. And a huge supply is being added to the market now. The prices will only go 1 direction from this moment.

Have a very tight budget...but have started to believe in Feng Shui after reading an article on Emirates on way to Bangkok about HSBC head office in Hong Kong employing an old experienced Feng Shui master and how strongly they believe in him and so do the residents of Hong Kong and many many Chinese. Does anybody know who to contact in Dubai - but like I said have a very tight budget and the person in question has to be good with references. Have been through bad luck and few difficult months so exploring all avenues. Anyone? Sorry I don't have any contacts for Feng Shui, but if anywhere needs it then HSBC does!:biggrin::biggrin:

LOL I know - I sound like a fruit loop. But I have realized over the years that the best advances often happening after the bottom has been hit. At the moment people are in water well above their head and struggling to find air to get back to the top of the rough sea. If they just let themselves float down they'll find that they may not be on the high sea anymore, but they are in calmer waters and don't have to fight for survival. One step back to take one step forward on a more secure path. But the thing is that many people do still think they are in day dream Dubai. They still think they are a high class of people, living in the land of gold streets, and they are drowning in debt to maintain that facade to both the public and themselves. There ARE people here on good money, just as there are people in the west on good money. But peopleon average money have long tried to live the life of those on good money because that once was possible - and to have a huge savings left at the end of the month after dong it. I think Dubai will become real. There will still be uber rich people who are wow but gone will be the days of people being scoffed at for not living the brunch lifestyle, and in will be the days of people living nice, reasonable lives again. I don't think there will ever be a true long term 'low to middle class' workforce. si,ply because this is an expat place, not a home, but the bs will start to get cut out for many people. Locals have changed a lot over the past 2 decades - I have spoken to so many and have been truly wowed at how switched on they are and how international they are in their mentality (I don't mean international as in "evolution" of things such as Ramadan, I mean international as in their demeanor is very learned), I see good things on the way though. But anything can change tomorrow. We can't predict the future, especially these days. But i am hoping. You seem to forget a teeny tiny detail.. The reason why most people come here is because they're able to save money. Now that this has become impossible for many, they simply leave. It's better to live in your own home country when you have to live from paycheck to paycheck than to be an expat in a foreign country.

I'm not sure I should say... But the name starts with * and ends with * ;) They have several schools and nurseries in Dubai and my experience with the nursery was outstanding, hence why I decided to move forward with school. I'm so disappointed... Ah, I see. Always heard mixed stories about their reputation. Try to get your son into another school, where they take time for children and are not understaffed. Do your son a favour.

First off 25 is way too many for a KG1 class! It seems like control is not being maintained and your child is feeling that. They not only have classrooms of 25, but they also have about 9 sections of KG1... Only in Dubai... Apparently GEMS Silicon Oasis has 15. Doesn't say anything, as long as it's managed properly.

Hi, thank you all, I'll go today and check the stores / brands you mentioned. He had been wearing StrideRite and found them comfortable. Want to visit Pablosky and Buckle Up also. Notnewintown, any idea when was the sale last year at Pablosky? Will check Oasis Center stores but going to MOE and finding a parking on Saturdays is really frustrating so may be visit there in week days. I'm not sure about last year, but they had a sale on during last Ramadan. And it was a good one.

These are the costs to consider for living in a 'tax free' region. It's called the "Expat Tax" ... the extra money we all pay when we get ripped off trying to live overseas. But I think we are all beginning to wonder if it's worth it anymore! Paying taxes back home means I get free schooling for my children, a legal system that is fair - and if I get an unfair speeding ticket, I can feel like I have a chance to overturn it - and decent weather! I totally understand why some people are willing to put up with the extra costs of living in Dubai. If I were from a dangerous country like South Africa or a developing country like India or Pakistan, I'd find Dubai attractive as well ... Do you have any idea how arrogant that is? Seriously can you read that again? How insulting can you be? Oh those poor people from those undeveloped and dangerous countries might like it here but us from superior parts of the world are too good for this place. Please by all means why don't you leave? I find you aggressive, Marroosh. Don't you think she meant that some people have a choice to be here and others (from dangerous countries) don't? Why do you read conflicts and problems in a lot of posts? Chill and enjoy your vacation. Life is too short.

Emirates has deteriotated rapidly and it's not the same airline as it was 2-3 years ago (I'm talking from a staff point of view). PPrune nowadays (unfortunately) gives a realistic view of what's going on. Yes, it used to be full of whinging and complaining people, but at the moment what's being discussed there is the raw truth. Think trice before joining. And if you do, keep your eyes open and be prepared for a wild ride. Hello tomorrow.

Hello everyone, Im wondering if there are any women on here that moved to Dubai to live with their husbands even though they had to leave behind their jobs and careers. At the moment im struggling a lot to decide what to do. Let me explain: Im married to an Egyptian national who has the possibility to move to Dubai due to a (in his eyes) great job opportunity. Obviously he wants me to follow him to live there. However, im afraid i wont find any work there and i would be completely bored and just spend my days sitting at home doing nothing. Currently im working for an NGO in the human rights field. As i have come to understand there are no such jobs available in the UAE. As i have studied a long time at university (2 bachelor degrees and 2 master degrees) im hesitant to give up my possibility to have a career and move to Dubai. I know i could possibly work as a secretary but it feels i have wasted a lot of time, money and hard work obtaining my degrees. Doing another master degree in UAE is unaffordable to me and my husband. My question is: how did other women who are or were in the same situation deal with this? How did you make your decision? And, is it worth giving up everything you worked so hard for to move to a strange country without having any career prospects? What is in your husband's eyes the great job he got offered? Is it a middle management position in a medium sized company? Or a position on C-level with a multinational? If you could elaborate a bit on that, perhaps we could tell you a bit more on how that might turn out to be in Dubai.
