So glad to hear I'm not the only fan, hahahaha! I will check the outlets you mentioned. Thank you for sharing, ladies! Singarosa, do you mind asking how you get your hands on olive oil from Jordan? Or do you have family supplying you? :-) i have family supplying, he keeps going on road trips from UAE all the way to Jordan and vice versa, and everytime he comes back he gets a huge batch of olive oil and olives, both of which his wife actually home makes.. they have their own trees.. seriously GOOD STUFF.. I once had that back in Doha. A colleague of mine used to do road trips from Qatar to Jordan and bring back oil from his own trees... We had a huge supply, like 15L or so. How wonderful that was. Maybe a cheeky question: is it possible that I buy some olives and oil from your family? A good amount, like 5L of oil or something? If it's not possible, then no problem. I'm happy for you that you get to enjoy the Jordanian delicacies! edited by Notnewintown on 17/11/2013

I've found it in Geant and Choitram but to be honest haven't looked elsewhere. Look in the international aisle and if they have a japanese section, it's sure to be there. It is a packet about 7cm by 15cm, about 1cm thick. I cant remember the brand, but it's hard to miss - has 'curry' on the front. This is food-proof, you don't even have to thicken it, it's all in there :) Let me know how it goes if you use it. When I make the meat one, I like to put potatoes and carrots in it, like a stew. I'm drooling now.. :-) Thanks Ginnee, will look for it at Geant!

Hi, I used mine for the first few months. Don't think it's wise to keep the baby with you in bed. You can always put the basket next to you, or even in bed if you want (if DH agrees..). I have one from Mothercare, a pink one. You can buy it for AED 100 if you'd like. It's brand new.

I am looking for the quintessential evening. i have a friend coming and we want to do fountains + a drink + arabic meal! Can it be done? Is there somewhere at the address maybe or in Souk al Bahar? I can't recommend Karam Beirut. You order a simple Shish Taouk with a price tag of AED 65. And it doesn't come with anything. A side order of french fries or a fatoush salad will cost you AED 24 each on top.

Somebody on this forum suggested a registered Apple support shop in Knowledge Village. I took a broken MacBook Pro there and I found them very professional and it was repaired, with a new screen installed, amongst other things, within a day. At a price, of course, but pay peanuts, get monkeys. Or something. It is called Smart and is in the row of shops opposite Cordoba Residence in Knowledge Village, at the end nearest Zayed University. Thoroughly recommend the service. I don't know whether they are as good for iPads, though. Yup. My iPad's screen was bent, and they repaired it with original parts. Excellent service.

I can't bear the thought that my baby will not bother crying because he knows I won't come. I'm not ready for him to give up on me just yet ;) This is not what CIO is about. It's about teaching baby to soothe themselves back to sleep when they awake during the night and to realize that night times are for sleeping and for doing so in their own crib/bed. I did CIO with checks from both my kids and I assure you that neither of them have given up on me. In fact, quite the opposite. They both sleep very well and I'm the first one they look to and come to if and when they need comfort or their needs addressed. Same here.

So when I posted at 2:22am she cried for 17mins then went back down. I however, was awake til 4am feeling nauseous from morning (or all night) sickness. She then woke again just before 5am crying. DH leapt up to get her, I said NO leave her be. We both lay there listening to her, it was awful. After 2 mins, DH couldn't bear it and locked himself in the bathroom so as not to hear it. After 15mins we were all in tears and I went to get her, she was inconsolable. Crying and screaming her head off. DH was yelling at me that I am cruel and look at her, and it's all my fault. Obviously I felt like sh!t. Nothing was calming her down, holding her close, rocking etc, she was so so upset that we had not gone to her she could barely breathe and doing those cute little snorts. In the end I had to give her a bottle. I don't care what anyone says, CIO is not for us. I cannot bear to hear my baby scream and not be able to console her. So - are there any ways, we can get her down without the crying? Or should we just wait it out til she sleeps through when she's ready. As for the food, yes I will start doing chunkier meals. She has cottage pie, fish pie, meat sauce, small pasta shapes, polenta with cheese, lentils etc. My stepbrother had similar issues in that he is a v picky eater and only eats white rice aged 6 so I don't want that for her. She eats all sorts, everything homemade, she doesn't like all of it but I persist. Next up, steak lol! Thanks for all your help - it is so hard knowing what;s best. Lolacat - re: working I do believe I will cope yes. I know that is hard to believe when threads like this suggest I am not coping, however, I have read similar "end of tether threads" from SAHMs, mums with 1 child, mums with 3 etc. In fact, my SAHM friends call me "lucky" as I get a break so really I don't see how me being home would make a difference. Perhaps I am wrong? TDB, it seems you went cold turkey on her. Of course she will be panicking if mommy doesn't show up. You need to slowly change the pattern. So is she cries, wait for a minute and then go to her, stroke her hair, give her a kiss and tell her she should go back to sleep. All the while leaving her in bed (don't pick her up). Then leave (don't make this moment long). She will be crying. Wait for 5 minutes. Do the same. Then wait for 7 minutes, do the same. Etc. With doing this, she knows that mommy is close by but she has to go to sleep. You will see that after 3 nights she will sleep through.

Oh god she has been crying for 17 mins now, it is heartbreaking. By some miracle DH has not woken up as he came in late from shisha so I have been listening to it. I think she has stoppednow. She wakes 2 or 3 times like this, normally we run in with a dummy, she goes down at 6pm no problems. So do I just let her cry with each wakeup and it should get less and less? :( Yes, it should get less. Babies are intelligent creatures. They will not invest time and energy when they know it's useless. You'll see. Just make sure that she's not too cold, too warm, hungry (at this age they are capable of going without food/milk during the night) or has a dirty nappy. It's not easy TDB, but hang in there!

Is it possible to go through say, 3 days of awfulness, and come out the other side with a baby who sleeps through? Yes, yes and yes. But you have to be consistent and disciplined. You're not only helping yourself by getting a good night of sleep and being a well rested mom, but your little one will also get more sleep in the end. Just do it. Good luck.

I totally agree with your concerns. Actually, you will be in a heap of trouble once #2 comes along if your daughter doesn't come up the development curve a little faster. My children are 16 months apart and I only survived because our first was walking, eating fairly independently and slept through the night. First things first - train her to sleep through the night! As long as she is a healthy weight, I would have a hard time believing that she can't sleep through the night. Use logic with him and come up with a plan on how to handle her day. Help your kind-hearted husband stick to the plan and good luck! I agree. With number 2 on the way you should have her sleep through the night. There's no reason why she shouldn't sleep through. You sound like a sensible mom who uses her common sense. I hope you'll be able to convince your DH to allow you to be in charge for the time being.

Thanks Ladies for such quick responses. After no word for almost 4 months suddenly things appear to be moving quite quickly. I don't have any children but would like to save so I'm very reluctant to accept the offer as is. I did ask for something in the region of 35-40 which was rejected- I'm unsure at this stage whether that is their final position or there is more wriggle room. Without giving away too much (small world!) Its a corporate position as opposed to provider based. The position itself is very interesting- but I know from previous experience that alone would not be enough to keep me happy long term. My question to those of you in the know would be whether it would be possible to move to a higher paying position in the future. Or would accepting such a low salary damage my log term job prospects? Ideally I would like to be based in Dubai so would work towards that long term. Accepting the offer: Con: the 28k would be the starting point you have to negotiate from when conducting a future interview (hopefully in Dubai) Pro: working in Qatar will give you local experience, that's regarded as a plus by employers in Dubai If you have a steady and good job in the UK: stay put and keep scanning vacancies in Dubai. If it's a bit shaky or if you'd like some adventure: you can accept the offer. My personal opinion would be to negotiate and ask for more.

I think part of the moral of this post is that women are gradually being reduced to mere objects. It's not just a matter of if u don't like it, then stuff it...it's like a cancer, and very soon will affect all of us.--our daughters/nieces/granddaughters... Increasingly we see girls in videos wearing next to nothing or even nothing! while the men are so dressed up even with hats ..head to toe...Girls are gradually being taught that if you are not naked or lose, you won't find a guy.... We call for equal rights and respect, but we have not even shown ourselves respect. It starts with mothers, even within the small expat-woman circle, please be firm when your daughter puts on something inappropriate and explain that it just won't work. My two cents, and i'm quite happy that some schools have banned these songs...Would it stop students from downloading? NO! But then it puts across a message of supporting proper moral values, and that's what is important. ***LIKE*** Jay14: you're absolutely right.

Hi, If the Qatari offer is the same as your UK income, I wouldn't accept it. You need to keep 2 things in mind: 1. The cost of living in Qatar is high, so a chunk of your income would go directly to rent for example. 2. You need to have enough income to save a part. Remember: in Qatar you're not building any pension or putting any money into a retirement plan. So you need to do that yourself. I would say 30% on top of your UK salary would be a realistic figure to have in mind. Good luck.

Your husband is completely normal. Please read the book 'Men are from Mars, Women from Venus'. It explains to you why he wants to have a bit of silence when he comes home. Leave him in his 'man cave' for a while so he can unwind. Of course, being silent and withdrawn all night is not good. If that's the case with you, talk to him when he's in a good mood and tell him what you need. Good luck.

Hi Kellyjane, First of all: you're not a bad mum!! Second: I don't agree with your friend saying formula is poison, however, I really think breast milk is best. Coming from a mum who expressed full time from the start: pump, pump and pump. That's the only way to increase your volume. And drink lots of water. In the beginning, I pumped every 2 hours. I was disencouraged seeing how little it was, but it gradually increased. And pump during the night as well. When you're resting, your body makes more milk. Set the alarm clock at 2 hours during the day, during the night you can get up one time to pump. I don't know what kind of pump you have. I had the Medela Freestyle, and was done in 10 minutes every time. The best of luck and keep going, don't lose hope! Determination will get you there! P.S. You don't have to pump every 2 hours forever, only to increase your supply for now. edited by Notnewintown on 14/09/2013
