We had the tommy digital, great in our big house. Now we have the Summer baby touch video monitor. Range just makes it from upstairs to downstairs but excellent monitor. Around 150 quid from UK. You can even have multiple camera's linked up to the one reciever.

HI, i gave birth at AH 1 year ago and will do so again in 6 months time. I had a really great experience there. Upon arrival get the DH to valet park the car as mine parked himself and took forever.I was then taken by wheelchair to a labour suite where i was examined by a midwife who told me i was 6cm dilated. Didnt ask for my birth plan but asked what pain relief i was going for and promptly gave me the gas. She then rung my doctor and i changedinto a gown and waited whilst watching the tv during contractions. When the BIG ones started i askedfor an epidural and took them about 15mins to get it sorted out. DD was born a few hours later, upon delivery she was placed onto my chest whilst they cut the cord and waited for theplacents. She was examined by the pediatrician but stayed in the room. Eventually sshhe was taken to my room with DH as i got showered and repaired and saw her 1 hour later. She was allowed to stay inmy roomovernight but did ask for her to be taken to the nursery aroung 3am so i could recover (she didnt stop screaming!!) An hour later she was brought back to be fed as i insisted she wasnt to be given ANYTHING other than BF. Stayed 1 more night and was released with pain meds. Also, ask to see the lactation consultant before youleave. Very useful. Yes ensuite but no bath. Think theremight be a communal bathroom though. edited by nutty on 05/11/2011

My mum has the upright and i have the pull along animal one. Pull along much easier to get everywhere, under furniture etc. The upright is just cumbersome IMO. We live in 2 storey villa with a few large rugs .

Being pregnant again i have to use the toilet twice as often as last time although i have never asked to cut inline i have danced a bit and looked for sympathy as the bladder just cant hold onto it for very long! I always walk into a lift(with buggy) even if fullof able bodied people and then make a point of saying to people who have all just rushed ahead of me in a polite way that they have a choice where as i dont and shouldnt be at their mercy. Rude no, assertive yes! edited by nutty on 02/11/2011

Double doors are 185w and 210H. No district cooling. Also budget 1000aed to get the gas connected and for a huge bottle if the villa has a gas cage and more if it does not and has to be installed.

Our ac in DD's room 7am-7pm then 10am-1pm. Our bedroom ac 10-7pm May have it on over lunch time if we are at home. There is ways of turning off certain ac systems in the villas/TH see previous threads. If you get a villa with a landscaped garden you will be responsible to maintain the standard. If you get one where the LL has put pebbles down 3/4 of garden and left only a small grass area then your bills will be about the same as mine. Look at the townhouses as they are more economical. Really depends on which way the villa faces aswell, we looked until we found one where the livingspace was not in direct sunlight as this make a big difference to DEWA bills. Also if you do go for an IV choose the Arabic style (light wood interiors) as they have less windows.

We live in a 2 bed townhouse in JVT. Our monthly DEWA in summer is around 2000aed and winter 500/1000aed. The gardens of the independant villas are huge and require a lot of watering. Think curtains; TH: 3 double doors downstairs,3 double doors upstairs plus 2 windows IV; 4 double doors, 4 windows. 3 double doors upstairs plus 2 windows although in the Mediterrean style you have big windows at the top of the stairs that make it nice and toasty. TH; Manageable size garden but back to back rows IV: Massive gardens also overlooked but by not as many. TH: Huge tv lounge at top of stairs (5000aed to make a 3rd bedroom) IV: Space at the top of the stairs. We use the springs pools as there are none in JVT.It takes me 4 mins to drive to spinneys town centre from district 2. Have heard mega rumours that the placehas to be ready by the middleof next year and judging by the hive of activity would say there is something in this. Only a local garage in way of shop at the monent. TBH i really like it. I have a nice big family sized villa close to everything i want but then i drive and dont mind not being in a finished community.

I've been following similar posts with interest as this applies to my DD born 29/08. I remember MIL who has been a primary school teacher in inner London for almost 40years desperate for me to have DD before the 01/09 as in her opinion and experience the youngest in the class is always at an advantage. DD went to nursery at 12months and loves it. Gets excited when we arrive and has had no seperation issues so far. Think it mostly depends on the personality of the child. We have now put her name down for starting school in 2013 (3years old) and will take the recommendation of the school and nursery before we commit. The schools that i have spoke to say that the younger children are split into 4 classes so Aug-Dec are in all in one class and so on because they do recognise that at that age there is huge differences. edited by nutty on 02/11/2011

Worst thing you can do is block an ear already blocked! Hostie for 12 and had the unfortunate experience of earblockage pain. Anything to clear the eustatian tubes (nasal spray otravin, medication) Can also buy inhalants that you disolve in hot water and inhale. Seen various acts of stupidity though, cotton in ears, cup over ears etc. Give child decongestant, a drink on take off and landing or something to chew but do not block their ears!

My DD hated these things when we were back and much preferred a footmuff on her car seat and pram. Just a thought as wasted somuch money buying her a all in one that to be honest was a pain to get her in and out of. Although i do remember you posting about walking in Scotland over xmas in which case a duvet with sleeves is what you'llneed and we got ours from baby shop for 60dhs. Super warm but sizes run small.

Be warned about the time wasters on Dubizzle, dont show up or show up when they feel like it. Or the morons who start barganing before they have even seen the car. I have sold a few cars on Dubizzle but justsaying it can be tiresome.

Buy a heart rate monitor (100aed) and aim to keep in the fat loss range ( google your height, weight and build to findout what this is for you) any slower and willnot work, any faster and then your body will switch to training/cardio and your fitness will improve but may not see the results you seek.

You could fry the chips at a different time to the rest for each customer but is time consuming and expensive to keeprunning a fryer on high. Also doesnt take into account other customers waiting time. Sounds a bit of an expat request. Certainly would be kept waiting backhomefor such a request and i guess here somewould be on their phones complaining about waiting times.

I certainly have expectations of behaviour based on nationality but try to treat all the same and wait to be surprise done wayor the other. Workedin customer service here for 10 years and a little cultural knowledge goes along way. IE never tell local kids in the cinema to shut up, go sit beside them and make them think its their idea to behave appropriately, works wonders andno one loses face!

We had a great time at Iceland waterpark. A bit of a faff to get in but huge area for kids that my DD loved and plenty to keep DH entertained. Food prices were reasonable although they had no high chairs when we visited. The feet tip in previous post is to be heeded but just keep your flip flops on and there are storages for them next to each of the slides so no biggy. Cant comment on the health and safety as we didnt notice any issues, ignorance is bliss as they say.

Just to let you know,we slowly introduced cows milk at 11.5months. IOn DD's cerealin the morning and then a sippy cup with lunch and a formula bottle at bedtime. She was also having a yoghurt or cheese stick now and again. Then we noticed that she started waking up in the night every night for about a month and seemed to have a wheezy chest that she couldn't shake. After a bit of research and doctors visits we discovered it was a reaction to the cows milk. As soon as we limited her dairy products including milk she started sleeping throught the night again and the wheezing cleared up. Doctor said this can be quite common, but just something to look out for.

Reckon you've got a good chance of seeing the white stuff. I remember hearing on the radio that my village was the coldest on record at -22c one evening and that was with 3/4 feet of snow on the ground. Needless to say we didnt go far.

I suffer fromthis after having my 2nd set of braces and had to seek the help of a maxifacial surgeon of which there are few in Dubai. Get it seen to asap as mine started popping and then suddendly locked and it was 2 years before i could open my mouth properly. I slept with a night guard to help stop me grinding at night and try keeping your tounge on the roof of your mouth whenever possible to relieve the jaw muscle. Bad posture can also make this worse.

Gatwick is normally on the cash plus miles offers if you can wait that long to book and then go easy jet to EDI or GLA. If then try Heathrow as many carriers serve this route and prices are kept down.

My friend spoke highly of Medcare but when i went at 28weeks with a serious virus i was shocked at the treatment i received fron the gyny on duty. I spoke to my Dr about delivering there and she advised against it even though she had the rights to and told me they even paid her more to do so. She recommended the other hospital that she had rights to and we were very happy there.

De twist the knickers ladies, xmas stuff going on sale early gives the consumer the option of spreading the costs over a few months. I have nearly finished the gift shopping, and have been packing the larder fullof treats for the last few months now.I see countless threads on the lead up to xmas about people moaning about how they cant find XYZ and you know why? Cause the more organised have been and bought them. Oh and they are the ones that can splash the cash on all the parties etc because they didnt leave it all to the last minute and are now skint! Thanks Dubai for being super organised.

We stopped by the other morning after Kidville and was really disappointed by the service. The coffee was rank, way too strong and defo not Illy as advertised. When asked to fix it they put it in a take away cup and gave us more milk which promptly led to me demanding they remake it only this time using Illy coffee. The bread was so hard it was not even fit for consumption. The place was busy and we did have to wait but not worth the bother.

Heinz baby stock cubes for making purees, your next size car seat can be checked in. Make sure to get the summer cover too. Baby books as way cheaper abroad. Shoes in different sizes as so expensive here. Winter goodies from the sales in the size you would need for a winter vacation.

Our DD was 4kg at birth and always off the charts for height and weight. She is now 1 and we have only just taken her out of her Maxi Cosi cabriofix. All the UK advice says to leave them in the rear facing as long as possible and even if the legs are not straight better that than a broken neck in a forward facing seat when the neck is not mature enough. However, a lot of my friends used the same one and insisted it was too small at around 8/9 months. We fed DD in a bumbo seat with tray until she could sit upright and then bought an all singing all dancing peg pergo seat, what a waste of money. The food gets trapped everywhere and i end up detailing a high chair 3 times a day. Have now swapped it for the IKEA one as previosly suggested by others.
