The solution seems to be 2 contracts: 1 for immigration, with 600 AED, another one for the Phillipines Embassy, with 1500 AED.

We had the same problem just recently. There is no way around it. BUT: leading in deciding the salary and thus your visa fee is what you put in the contract. The lowest amount is 600 AED. Times 12 will be your fee. The additional salary to be agreed upon with your maid. We were advised such by the PRO, everybody does it apparently.

Karama has plenty parking (in weekends) and are open for collection on Friday as well. Took me 15 minutes to pick it up. edit to add: I went to the office near the airport in Rashidya. No appointment needed for women, just get there early, before 9. Just have your typing ready and you"ll be done within half an hour. No need to wait till late September. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 20/04/2012

If u call the number on the application form they can tell you the status of it Same here, 2 weeks between the SMS from Emirates ID confirming they issued and the Karama Post Office for pick-up.

Seriously? I am startled by the selfishness in this thread. I thought the OP was pretty harsh, but I cannot believe the replies of most posters. O poor ladies, having to go home every now and then to visit your family. Most parents have sacrificed a lot in their lives and at least tried to do the best they can to give us a good start. And now, while we're relatively thriving (compared to mist people in our home countries, otherwise we wouldn't be here) you consider them a financial burden and a waste of time? No, we don't get to choose our family, but hey, they don't get to choose us. Then again, we are all perfect right? If you find it such an ordeal to go home, stop doing it, but trust me, there will be a day you will regret it.

Now I feel as if I am underprivileged! "The new professions that will fall under the domestic helpers' category are (only for household, not companies): Housemaid, imam, private sailor, watchman, household shepherd, household horse groomer, private driver, household falcon carer and trainer, domestic worker, housekeeper, private coach, private teacher, baby sitter, household farmer, private nurse, private PRO, private agriculture engineer" I don't have a household shepherd, falcon carer and trainer or sailor! :) In which case I would love to borrow your household horse groomer before it's too late. ;)

Thanks ladies, still seems strange to me. Guess it's something we have to deal with then. I worked in the Financial Service Industry in Europe for over 20 years, never seen such conditions attached to a CC.

What's the point of hiring via an agency, if you have to stay involved in these things? She is their responsibility, let them handle it instead of you doing the "dirty work" for them. That's what you are paying them for anyway. If you had wanted to be involved in cases like this, you wouldn't have gone through all the extra expenses an agency brings.

@ Cleopatra : There is a big difference between people who, willingly and knowingly, participate in traffic, sports and what have you, and animals whose decisions are made for them @ Lolacat: I would say your comment is no more inaccurate, irresponsible, ignorant, naive and offensive then any of the other posters. You do not know anything about my lifestyle, let alone my clothes, food or handbags.

If the not being able to sew is your only issue with Dragonmart: it shouldn't be. As long as you give them the measurements of your window, they will calculate your fabric and sew your curtains within a day or 2. At extra cost they will come and hang (or recommend a guy to do it for you).

I have heard these stories many times. They are horrendous and have definitely put me off ever going there. A question to the ladies who have lived here a long time: aren't there any animal rights groups that have tried to do something about this? Poor, poor animals.:(

Hi Neno, are you new in Dubai? In which case it is totally normal to feel depressed. Have your circumstances changed? It's really hard to give any advice without knowing a bit more of the circumstances. In any case I would suggest to get out of the house. Go see a movie, meet people, go to coffee mornings, but again, it depends on the circumstances.

This is a fake story, the website is set up to look like a legitimate news website, but just click on any link and they all direct you to the same scam website. It's a "clever" attempt to make you believe that it's a real story, which you obviously fell for! Scary how many people believe this stuff. Have recieved this link several times. Fake, fake, fake! Too good to be true.

Try and check your car again and again. I lost my house keys 6 weeks ago (in and around my car). Search and search, to no avail. Changed all locks on the house. Last week I had a couple of friends in the car, and one of them found the keys! So even if you are sure (as was I) check again. And personally I find people in Dubai not honest at all. Everybody is trying to rip you of, every chance the get. Some would return what's not theirs, most I think would just keep it, thinking the other person is better of then they. And please don't be too upset, you did nothing to deserve this, it just really bad luck. In the end the love between you and DH is much more important then a ring.

20 years ago this weekend we were introduced by mutual friends. They invited us both for dinner, afterwards we all went to a disco (these days they call it a nightclub). My friend conveniently fell ill and had to be taken home by her BF. Which left DH and me to ourselves. The rest is history...:)

Since you mention your bank balance, I would suggest you do the math. An agency nanny will cost you at least 35 AED per hour. 20 hours a week would be appr. 2800 AED per month. A full-time live-out helper will be 2400 AED per month. Sponsorship incl. ticket would be appr. 6500 AED/yr All in all it would cost you only marginally more to hire a full time live-out helper, whereas you have full flexibility, always the same person in your house and extra time to spent with your LO because she will also do the cooking and cleaning. Good luck with your decision

I hope you did a good background interview with this nice Italian lady. Italy has his share of strays, so I really do not see why she has to adopt a dog from Dubai, whereas there are plenty of dogs that need care and attention in her own country. This is not adding to any solution at all (IMHO)

Aplouman, it 's not as black&white as mentioned here. If you husband writes a letter of consent you can work here! You will obviously not be working as a maid or nanny, but as a professional tutor or something. I'm sure there will be a way for you to work, just do a good search and don't take everything on this forum at face value. Good luck.

Hi Sunlight, the previous thread has been closed, which is why you can't post anymore. There were books and internet articles posted. The best you can do for your friend and her family is educate them on the subject, and really have her talk to a doctor about the Alzheimer's. And please educate yourself as well, so you can support your friend. She will be witnessing her mom slip away from her, that is very hard to see and she will need someone to talk to. Take care.

To fill our pool would take at least 10 hours via DEWA and. If you're using your water as normal then the filling of the pool will bump you into the orange or even the red sectors of your water bill which can work out expensive. Loube if you do fill via DEWA do you inform them in advance and get permissions as such for this set timeframes? Sorry to distract, but can anyone explain to me how this green, orange and red sectors on the DEWA bill work?

OK Sunlight, you are obviously genuinely concerned. Alzheimer's is a very serious disease, however NOT contagious. There is no cure, no prevention either. I can be traced back to genes, but as Amy Aus pointed out, if a family member has it, you will not necessarily get it. If your friend is worried that she and her kids are at risk, she can always go see her doctor and talk to him about it. That would really be her best option.

Hi Xiana, sorry, I cannot help you with the medical questions. It is good to see you getting your life back on track. With regard to DH, consider it a blessing he left. You could certainly do without the stress he was adding to your life, apart from the verbal abuse you were getting from him. At least now you can finally focus on yourself. After 3 months, just tell him not to bother coming back. All the best to you.
