Found mine at ACE Festival City. They have a huge selection. Some better then others, but few quite good ones.

I'll probably get shot over this one, but shouldn't you focus on your work while you're there, instead of keeping an eye on the house? Let go, and if you can't, quit your job!

what nonsense - an addict is an addict by choice; they choose to take what ever they take. And no, they don't suffer half as much as the people that are near them. My god Fulla, what is it with you. Not only do you brand half the population (including myself) as basically ready for the grave because we're over 40, in addition you completely disregard the circumstances that may push some people into addiction. I guess being a B**** also comes by choice.

You probably do not want to hear this (again), but get out now, before you get hurt. He's on the rebound, and you're caught right in it. Maybe he"ll change his mind given some time, but let him figure it out by himself.

So today I noticed 2 cars with "for sale" signs on their windows. Those morons probably hadn't seen this thread;) Anyway, I also saw another one with a very creative solution to this problem: The sign only said: Interested? and the phone number.

LL used his own maintenance guys. I have seen them do it: all you need is a putty-knife, thinner and a lot of patience. Guess any handyman can do it for you.

Don't do that. It is illegal to hire someone that works in your house who is not on your sponsorship (or via an agency).

check the featured links (left side) under "new to Dubai" . It has a full maids section. Also in the topics forum of EW there is a maids forum. Once you have decided you need part-time or full time, you can do the first through a maids agency, the latter you sponsor a maid. Under " classifieds " you often find maids recommended by there current employer. I would start there.

Funny you should ask. I just came back from dinner at Ushna.. Fantastic food, by far the best Indian I have had in a long time (haven't had it in Dubai though). Good atmosphere, outside terrace with Burj view. We used our Entertainment voucher, and will be using the other two as well, later this year.

She is allowed 30 days overstay on her visa. After that you pay a fine for every day she remains in country. Fine is 100 dhs on a visit visa or 50 dhs on a resident visa. If I understand you correctly, she is already in overstay, and has 12 days left. You can do an urgent medical, which can give you the results same day. Don't know how long the visa processing takes. Hope this is some help, I am also new, but thus is what I found out so far.

Mazaya is releasing new Villa's every month. I spoke to a female agent from Coldwell Real Estate. Her name is Wajiha (0555504483). She will show you all Mazaya types. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 06/02/2012

Oh I see she is not going to be living with you... No, she will be living out. You think it's reasonable then? She has to cover rent, food etc. from the 2500.

Hi Springysarah, I am in exactly the same situation, taking over an originally live-out who went live-in. She was paid 2000 salary and 500 living allowance with her previous employer. When she started living-in, she kept that allowance for transportation. I have been told that 2000 + 500 (she will be living-out with me) is a normal amount. She has to pay for rent, food and toiletries herself. Thinking of paying 2000 + 500. Am I crazy? Who told you it was normal? She did? No, her former employer!

Petra and Jerash: very stroller unfriendly! Aqaba and Dead Sea resorts (especially the Movenpick) are very good when traveling with LO's. Getting a private driver is probably a ver good way of getting around.

Well, I guess more of us suffer from that gene. I was in line at the ticket office, bought full men's passes for myself and DH. Should have bought 2 more (everyone could buy a max. of 4 tickets/passes) and sold them. Could've at least made up for the 5 hours I stood in line! And made one of you lovely EW's very happy.

Don't know where you live, but couldn't you just leave it near a container? I was clearing out our new villa, and things were gone as soon as I left them on the porch! All the gardeners etc. biking around, seemed quite pleased with it.

Not too cold, and yes, loads of kids. Could be tourists however. Come to think of it, they probably were. Kids here are like their mums whining about the cold (weather and water) ;);)

went yesterday, JBR. The sea was cold at first impact, but once I got through that, it was really lovely. Not the 30+ bathwater you get in summer! Really refreshing. Lot's of kids, although the waves and current were quite strong. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 05/02/2012

I have looked for the same, but haven't been able to find. And even if you would, it would cost you a bundle. Both you and your maid will probably be better off if you sponsor a live-out. That should cost you around 40.000 AED/year versus 35x50x52 via an agency. (and you would have the same person all the time)

I loved Magrydy's. Used to stock up on books while visiting Dubai from our previous location. Apart from the one on beach road, which looks rather small from the outside, but I have never been in , are there any other decent bookstores here?

Dear ladies, get real..... I have arrived here one month ago (from Europe). The weather I have been experiencing would qualify for a lovely spring there. I now look outside, and guess what, another sunny day in temperature paradise. Don't start beating me up, I know one gets accustomed to the warm weather, which might make the last weeks seem chilly, but hey......you will be regretting all this complaining and wish for the coolness to come back in a couple of months. ;) edited by Oopsiedaisy on 04/02/2012

So here's the update for Irooni and Grace: LL's maintenance company took out the carpets. They removed all glue from the tiles with liquid thinner. Quite a job, because it requires a lot of scrubbing on hands and knees, but they did get the job done. Tiles are undamaged and as good as new. Good luck to you.

I have been using vaseline for years now, since I became allergic to all other lip balms (it took some time for ne to find out it was the lip balm). Anyway, my lips recovered quickly, and I now only have to use it 2/3 times a week before I go to bed. Lips have never looked/felt better and during the day I only use lipgloss with sun protection.

I don't know much about cats, but if she got up, she can probably get back down. I doubt the fire brigade would help you out (here in Dubai). Where is the tree? If it's in your garden you could probably put some water and food out, and sit down quietly near it for some time. Maybe she will relax and come down. Hope she does.

It is about the costs. Do you know if it is true that the annual visa costs are equal to the maids annual salary? In that case it would be a lot more expensive then in Dubai. Are there other costs involved? I thought I had it all figured out, but I cannot find any info about the Sjarjah fees. In addition, someone told me that if under my sponsorship the maid would be allowed to take other jobs as well? That would be completely the opposite of what I thought the regulations are. TIA

Have been looking at The Villa last month. Only the Mazaya Villa's have swimming pools. They are named A, B, C (C has 6 bedrooms). The others, Valencia, Cordoba, Marbella etc. do not have pools, unless the owner has put one in. In most cases however the owner lives in it. While I was looking, there were no Valencia's with pools for rent. It takes only 20 minutes to go to the airport, but I have been there on at least 6 occasions (all hours) and never saw any taxis. Some parts, especially Ponderosa, are quite nice and green already, but it will take years before there are community facilities or pools. All in all, especially with the high rents of the larger Villas (over 220.000AED) we have decided not to move there.
