The Outlet Mall also has a store with outdoor furniture. It's on the first floor just at the top of the escalator as you enter from the first door (not the door in the middle).

Schoolwise it depends what curriculum you are looking for. Bradenton Prep (us) is just over the road in Sports City. Greenfield Community School is IB in the Green Community. Gems Wellington at Silicon Oasis is UK curriculum I think. People do the DESS run from AR - it's an easy run straight down Emirates and then Al Ain Rd. The American School of Dubai is an easy 10-15 minute run from AR. DAA (also American) only slightly longer. <em>edited by plum2 on 16/11/2011</em>

If that is your aim I would enrol your baby now and then if he/she gets a place your older one would then have sibling priority (of course by that stage the older one would be settled at anther school and you might not want to move them). . No, this is incorrect info. A younger one cannot help an older sibling to get in.. But an older one can help a younger sibling to gain a place (if you can jump all the debenture holders). I stand corrected. No hope then :(

Lulu's also stock cans of Ginger Beer. I've also bought some in Spinney's at Motor City. We used to always buy it from Marks and Spencers but then apparently they discovered it had some miniscule amount of alcohol in so it was prohibited. :( <em>edited by plum2 on 16/11/2011</em>

To the OP Just as long as you're not moving there with the idea that you will be able to get your children into the school there - because chances are you won't. JESS at the ranches is extremely oversubscribed with huge numbers on the waiting list. Even siblings of children already in the school struggle to get places sometimes. If that is your aim I would enrol your baby now and then if he/she gets a place your older one would then have sibling priority (of course by that stage the older one would be settled at anther school and you might not want to move them). I am in Saheel and also struggling with huge DEWA bills.

Take a look at www.londonducktours.co.uk It is a tour around the sights of London in an amphibious vehicle and it then goes onto the Thames. I did it with my kids when they were younger and they loved it.

That's because I never knew the details sorry. Our pool maintenance person organised the tankers. We had 2 tankers and it still didn't fill the pool so we topped up with DEWA. I will get my husband to call him and see if he can get a number. My DH should remember how much it cost though. The water was absolutely boiling when it came out of the tanker. Is that as it comes from the factory? Back in September it took a long time to cool down but that should be a lot quicker now it's cooler at night.

Hmmm - one reason I am not keen to fly with Qatar airways again. I had an overnight flight from the UK that was delayed leaving. So we had been up all day, travelled all night (with delay) missed our connecting flight in Qatar. Had to wait about 7 hours for the next flight to Dubai. There was no one in the business class lounge but would they let us in to have a shower - no! This was about 6 years ago and the facilities at Doha airport at that time were quite limited. It was a v boring day! I hope your parents don't have to wait as long for the next flight.

Depending on where they come from most elderly people just enjoy the escape from nasty winter weather elsewhere. My elderly parents are visiting next month and just enjoy the sunshine. Having said that they are still quite active and can walk a fair distance. Most Malls have wheelchairs available from the information desk although I guess you can't push 2 wheelchairs at once if they both need them!

Hoping for some advice as what, where and how best for my parents,(mid 80s, coming for 2 months in January ) to getaround Dubai, obviously with me as chauffeur. Shopping centres out, as walk from the carpark will be enough !!!!! Both find it hard to walk more than a 100 yards. Mum has a disabled sticker so hoping this will help in some situations. Anybody else had similar situation on occupying parents of similar disabilities /age !!!! All ideas gratefully received. Thanks Wher does your mum's disabled sticker come from? Maybe you should check with RTA as it might not be valid here.

I don't think there is any difference between prepaid and postpaid reception is there? I think the mobile reception varies from area to area. We are in Saheel and our reception is fine but I remember visiting a friend in Al Reem in the past and she had to put the phone outside on the windowsill to get any reception (that was a few years ago). We have the basic Du Internet, landline and TV package and it is fine. We have a wireless router and all 4 of us can be on our computers at the same time with no problems. My kids download lots of music and my DH downloads movies and TV programmes with no issues. HTH

Do check carefully what your dentist charges as costs for dental work in Dubai vary hugely. An expensive dentist on the Beach Rd charged me almost 3500 for a root canal!

If your job(s) are secure and if the motagage and other costs together are less than you are paying in rent then you could consider it. But bear in mind you have to be able to sell it In order to get your money back or to walk away before you have finished paying it off. My concern is that these places are just not built to last and you could end up with big bills for maintenance.

My friend has just gone through this, although it was a problem with a heart valve, not a hole in the heart. She was advised to return to the UK and delivered 3 weeks ago. Her baby has had surgery and excellent specialist care in the UK. Where are you from? Sorry to hear you have to deal with this and wishing you all the best. Hi I haven't lived there but had a day trip there from HK in the summer. We went to a huge Mall at the largest casino (the Venetian) and it was just like any large mall here. Great range of shops. We also drove through other more local shopping areas that looked at bit like Karama.

I have used the Gladys salon at motor city several times and found them fine. You can usually get an appointment the same day when you ring. From AR go over the Spinney's lights, make the first U turn after that. They are on the ground floor in the same block at Building Blocks Nursery. 04 454 1285

TCHIBO have quite a bit that is way cheaper. They have a branch at the Outlet Mall and close to Lamcy Plaza amongst other places. Columbia in MOE, Ibn Battuta, Outlet Mall etc also stock a fair bit.

The Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre is probably closer to you. They are between Lulus and Mall of the Emirates. They are a school for children with special needs in the mornings but offer out-patient therapy in the afternoons. Call 03 340 0005

Appletiser, I have known lots of people who have finished with one job but stayed here while they looked for another. Their bank account may be frozen if they have outtstanding loans but not otherwise. I don't think your account is automatically closed. Mine wasn't when I changed jobs, nor was it frozen as I had no loans.

Both my teens had braces through the Nicholas and Asp post-grad training school. They finished almost 18 months ago and are now 17 and nearly 15. Great value for money and they both have beautiful teeth now. Can't recommend it highly enough.

You could google it. I think I overheard someone the other day saying it was 230 dhs. You've got to sell an awful lot of stuff to make any money at that price. If you do it, make sure you have lots of help because a lot of stuff gets pinched there.
