No. And it won't be for a few months (years??!) . You can come up Al Khail road towards Emirates Road but you can only turn left, head all the way to the Green Community Roundabout and then come back. You can go back down Al Khail Road from Emirates Road but there is no option to go around it anymore. Don't you mean you can only turn RIGHT onto Emirates road from Al Khail Rd? It is certainly a pain. You can only turn around on Emirates Rd at either the Green Community Roundabout or at Arabian Ranches Junction. <em>edited by plum2 on 25/10/2011</em>

From AR we can be in RAK in an hour if no traffic on the Emirates Rd. You can add ages if you're trying to get through Sharjah during busy times. You could try the by-pass road (611). From there it is probably 15 mins to the border but it's not clearly signposted. You then have to do the border crossing and that depends how busy it is. Then probably 40 mins to Khasab. HTH

We had a great holiday in Sri Lanka. We did a touring holiday and didn't go to the beach at all apart from Colombo, but it was fabulous (apart from the roads and the driving!).

The roundabout as it was has now disappeared and the Emirates road just goes straight. You will not be able to use this interchange until the new circular overpass is finished. It looks quite a way off as there are still huge gaps in it.

If moving to a school with the same curriculum you have until January. If changing curriculum it's something like 15 November.

You could also consider Greenfield school in the Green Community. I have no personal experience but have a friend with children there who is quite happy with it. I think once you are here and can politely harass schools without horrendous phone bills, you might be pleasantly surprised that places will appear. Show your face and let them see what a nice parent you are!

Back to the point of the cost of the visa. Hubby and I went a few years ago and the visa was 50 each. Someone said on here that if you're travelling with someone who is not your 'keeper' or hubby that the visa is 200 dirhams?????????? I was planning on going with a female friend next month. She's coming to visit UAE (Me :-p) and we were planning on Going to Oman. If it's going to cost us 200 each, that's really exorbitant. :( If overseas visitors with a UAE visa travel to Oman within something like 9 days of arrival in the UAE there is no charge for the Oman visa. This is a joint UAE -Oman tourism initiative. My sister (UK passport) visited In Dec last year and we went to Oman. They did not have to pay for their Omani visas.

I was through the border last week and needed a visa - have never been through without needing one but suppose this might depend on your nationality and residency status. Just FYI, we have queued for over 5 hours before over Eid and would recommend that you get your visa beforehand if possible to cut the time down a little although last year it was absolute chaos at the border - we went through Kalba which wasn't as bad but the rest of the family went through Hatta and they were there for nearly 6 hours! It is advisable to get up and get there as early as possible to beat the insanity (border opens at 6am). Do you mean the Kalba crossing opens at 6am.I thought that the Hatta border was open 24 hours. We have certainly been through in the early hours of the morning.

plumz, to que for 10 hours on eid is a bit over exagurating!!! you will que for maybe 2 hours max. Ive been many times to the tibbat border oman. and yes you do need a visa which you can get on arrival at the border if your british passport holders or european. If you go to musandam / Dibba side then no visa required as you are still within UAE waters as its over the other side so its just a check point where you will need your passports or youe NAtional ID Jojo24, i can assure you that I am not exaggerating. We had a friend who went to Muscat by bus for an Eid holiday and she was actually 11 hours between the 2 border crossings. This was 2 years ago. We left home at 11.30pm at night and went through the border quite quickly in the early hours of the morning and then just camped in the hills off the side of the road on the Oman side. During our holiday we went to the Shangri-La to meet friends and met several families with small children who had had the most dreadful 8-10 hour ordeal getting through the border. The only reason they did not give up and go home was that they had already paid for their hotel. Maybe things have improved more recently but whenever we have been at a busy time it is chaos with noone giving people information about which queues they need to be in. Also, to anyone driving, make sure your insurance is valid for Oman and take it into the Oman border post with you. If not you can stop and buy temporary insurance on the right just before the first Oman checkpoint. There is also an office where you can buy insurnace within the large Omani border post building but at busy times there is a huge queue here too.

Div, just be aware that the Hatta border post ( both the UAE one and Al Wajaja? on the Oman side) is absolutely manic over the Eid holiday. People have been known to queue for 10 hours!!!

Yes, you do need a visa. Cost varies according to your nationality. Free for kwis. Free for children. Last time I went I think it was 60 dhs for me on British passport.

I got a replacement license in March this year (after I lost my purse) from the Union Co-op at Safa Park. It was v quick. I just needed a passport copy - no police report was asked for. My purse was later handed in with cards intact. The two licenses are identical. The issue date is when you first got your Dubai license.

Where are you coming from? I think there are buses up and down the Beach Rd, but otherwise yes, taxis would get you there. If they don't know it, you are looking for a blue building.

It is in the Beach Centre on the Beach Rd. The one with Burger Kind and Automatic Restaurant at the front. Inside on the right it is called Wesco, White Star trading. It has all sorts of resources (mostly American) and has loads of stickers and stamps.

It was quite popular last year but not very well laid out. There wasn't a lot of room to move between the tables. I have booked a table for this year so hope they've got it sorted a bit better.

From the Trade Centre interchange stay in the right hand lane. Then move over to the right (can be tricky with traffic entering from the R also) following the signs for Wafi, and take the slip road exit. Follow the slip road a short way and then move to the left hand lane. Go under the bridge and exit to the right up and around on to Oud Metha Rd. Go straight (Wafi will be on your right) through the traffic lights with the Canadian Hospital on your right. After the lights take the second slip road entry to the right and carry straight up here. DESS is on your right.

The desert restaurant at Bab al Shams is called Al Hadheera. It is beautiful. It is set apart from the main part of the hotel and is a walled open air restaurant with a myriad of live cooking stations serving a wide range of Arabic foods. It is hugely atmospheric and the entertainment is great.

I have worn soft contact lenses for more than 20 years. I always used to have monthly ones but just over a year ago I tried daily disposable ones for a holiday. I would never go back to the hassle of having to clean and stores lenses. The daily ones are very convenient. Safestway. It's a supermarket in the slip road of Sh Zayed Rd on the Beach side of the road after the Dubai Mall interchange when heading towards Abu Dhabi. Hopefully someone else can give better directions!

Thanks a lot you all are simply great. I will definitely check these places for cool whip. I usually shop at lulu but was unable to find it there may be I m looking in the wrong isle? At Lulus the Coolwhip is usually in the frozen section, in one of the upright freezers close to the checkout end.
