if you can leave most of your hand luggage at the airport I would hop on the underground and head to the Natural History Museum and the Science museum in Kensington. Both are very child friendly and have cafe's etc. The kids would love it.

Haven't got one or ever seen one but wouldn't the fat etc from the meat drip just as much whatever the heat source? Those sloped George Forman grills have somewhere to drain/catch the fat but that's not really a BBQ is it? Sorry - not much help. I usually leave it to DH to clean ours!

You can also call Renovo. They do work in the Ranches and have fixed our AC. We had a similar problem with just one unit and the gas needed refilling. Sam at Renovo 050 105 0329 AC units all need servicing fairly regularly in AR due to all the sand and dust in the air. Edited to add that you don't need a maintenance contract with Renovo - you can just pay by the hour. <em>edited by plum2 on 23/05/2011</em>

I think you will have to apply for a visa in advance for your son though. We travelled via Australia (to NZ) on UK passports and all had to apply for visas even though we were only in transit and never left the airport. You can apply on line and it is free I think.

That's the time I've held on in AR and it was fine. I sent my kids out on their bikes after school that week, giving little fliers to all the housemaids etc who were out walking dogs around us. We had plenty of customers.

Went once. It was packed. Very cramped, hard to move around. You have to question why people try to get around these things with strollers! I magine you would need someone to help you to mind your stuff as you were making trips from the car. It was very busy though so good chance of selling stuff, and also a fair chance stuff will get pinched apparently.

If you have a colour printer and photo paper why not just print your own??? My DH has put them all onto one A4 page so we get 5 of each of the 4 of us. Minimal costs and they have been accepted everywhere.

Has anyone had this done who could give an idea of price? Or even anyone who has had a quote? I don't want to waste their time getting an assessment done if it is beyond my budget. It is easy really. Sheikh Zayed road. After Trade Centre interchange get in RH lane. Move to right and exit into sliproad signposted Wafi. Then merge to LH lane, then exit to right around and up onto Oud Metha Road. Cross over road going to Garhoud Bridge. Do not take the first exit to right, but take the second exit to right, signposted Healthcare city. This goes past an entrance to Wafi. At the lights turn left and you are in HCC. Good Luck!

We have used Renovo and have found them v efficient at fixing the AC. Very professional, they stick to appointments or call to let you know if they are running late. I like paying by the hour too.

I have one to sell that I bought several years ago from that very expensive toy shop that is/was in the Wafi. It has been lightly used. It has 2 different backing scenes. If the company is the one signing the rental contract then it shouldn't be a problem. Yes, many people have 4-6 weeks in a hotel or furnished apartment while they are sorting out housing. Finding school places really needs to be your priority as most people prefer to live close to school or at least between school and work. Where will you and/or your DH be working and what schools have you applied to? Maybe people can suggest other schools. You have to really think about how much of the summer you want to endure here in this extreme heat. Most of the schools will be closed so not much you can do until late August really. It is a pretty 'inside' existence here over the summer with early morning/early evening trips to the beach/pool. Far more people spend more of the summer here than they used to, but it is still very hot!

Not sure if it is convenient to you but there is a stationery store in Satwa, just up from the Rydges Plaza roundabout, that has a copying and binding shop at the back. If you head from the satwa roundabout in towards Bur Dubai (is it Mankhool road?) then it is just on the left next to a beauty salon (pretty lady?). You need to go up to the first 'u' turn and come back.

Both my children had their braces through the training school. The standards overall are excellent. The supervising professor (when we were going), Dr Bennet, was world-class and has written books etc. They are all great. The intial consultation is free so just go and see what you think.

For what age child? The Nicholas and Asp Postgraduate orthodontic training school in Healthcare City is excellent and works with lots of children. It is far, far cheaper than other orthodontists and the standards are v high.

I'm just back from the Gladys salon at Motor City. Tried a pedicure. My feet were really dry with cracked heels so got talked into the callous treatment which was an extra 50 dhs. So total 120 dhs and my feet feel amazing. Highly recommended. Have to say the decor is rather strange but the staff are lovely and the chairs very comfortable.

Yes, you can Miss Piggy. There is an exit out of the polo club car park that goes through to studio city and you can exit on to the roundabout from there.

If you get one of the little maps of AR from the Househunters stand in the shopping centre you will be able to see where all the community pools are. There is another nice one in Saheel on Saheel street. Coming in at gate 1 it is after street 3 on the left.

Not for one minute suggesting that you don't need ani-depressants but just wanted to add that I am just finishing reading an amzing book 'Spark' about the effects of exercise on the brain. There are many studies out there that have shown exercise to be equally as effective as many anti-depressants. The whole 'getting-started' part is hard but the positive effects kick in really quickly, especially when you find a partner to exercise with or join a group class.

The house next door to us in Saheel, AR is still empty. It is a 3 bed plus maids, freshly painted. On with a few agents including Househunters. No idea what they're asking for it. Street 2 number 22. It's in the middle between gates 1 and 2. Easy access to both Motorcity and Emirates Rd exits.

Hi, Friday is always a quiet day on EW, and even quieter than usual today due to the wedding! JBS is new this year so a bit of an unknown quantity really. I seem to remember it is quite expensive. Safa School has a good reputation as a smaller, family centred school. I have had friends with children there who have been very happy with it.

Depending on where in AR you might live, the trip to ASD could be as short as 10 mins. If you can get quickly onto Emirates road then the new flyover through to the ASD traffic lights is very fast.

We live in AR and don't find it isolated. We love coming home to the quiet, green haven with so many birds etc. With the new road and flyover opened, the trip to ASD would honestly only take you 10 mins. It is so direct. It could end up taking you longer from the Meadows. I am sure ASD have a school bus to AR. Just saying, don't rule it out.
