Plumie, sorry for going off topic here..may I know which freezer pots are you using? I have got some rubbermaid ones, they seemed ok for freezing individual bigger portions for DS but was wondering if there were better options. I use pots by the brand Babypotz, available on Amazon and in the UK. They are stackable, easy to store, BPA free and come 50 in a box! I also use the pots by Vital, again bought it at Boots in the UK, so may be worth checking at Boots here! I would highly recommend the Babypotz!

I don't know who was more traumatized by our last flight from the UK - SA, me or DD?! I was alone, she was hysterical and NOTHING I did seemed to calm her down. I trust my Dr 100%, and don't doubt her recommendation to give her something to calm her down to make the journey easier for her! It took me and her days to recover from that flight, just as she was settling in, we had to leave again, back to the UK on another 10hr flight. Needs must sometimes and I doubt I put the health of my baby in jeopardy, if that was the case then my Dr should be stripped of her medical licence as it was given on her advise.

Unfortunately I am guilty of giving DD 0.5ml of Alergex on our flight back from the UK last Friday! My Dr prescribed it to me as DD does not handle flying very well and is a poor sleeper if she is not in a comfortable environment! Flight took off at 10pm, she was asleep at 10:30pm and woke at 5am, flight landed at 7:45am. This was by far the most comfortable flight for both of us, as she managed to get sleep and could handle the journey through the airport with ease. DD is known to sleep for 25min on 8hr flights - most of which is crying and getting hysterical as she gets so wired and over-tired and cannot fall asleep due to all the stimulation. When travelling alone with a baby, my sanity is important to get us safely from point A - B and for her to feel rested. Do what you need to do Chgo2AD - I completely sympathize with your situation x

Re: strollers - I would highly recommend the Silver Cross Fizz! I bought one for our travels and absolutely love it! Only weighs 4.5kg, sturdy and reclines for naps :) I bought mine at John Lewis in the UK, however I think Mothercare in Debenhams also sells them! Re food: it's jars and pouches for our little Madame when we travel! I have asked hotels on many occasions to steam veggies for me, but they always seem to get it wrong! So I have cut out the hassle and have come not to rely on the kitchens in hotels! Even though I travel with our Wean Machine, the veggies always come to the room "el dente" :/: Re cots: I have found that hotels mainly stock the travel dot, where the mattress is flat on the base! This does notwork for us, as DH has a bad back and by the time I am laying DD down, I almost drop her as it is so low! I now always call up and check if they have the cots with the adjustable mattress/base! I also always travel with at least 1 fitted sheets and a matters protector for any spillages. Washing up liquid and Milton sterilizing tabs are also a travel must :) edited by plumie on 10/07/2011

I bought one since the first time we travelled with DD. One thing I would suggest Shelley, is taking masking tape with you! We have found that depending on the frame of the window, the suction cups would come loose! So we would always secure the blind with masking tape as well, just to prevent it from falling down during the night! It does take up quite a bit of space in your suitcase, so just leave some allowance for it! edited by plumie on 10/07/2011

Hey Ladies, Thought i would just update this thread with our progress! So after ready many baby forums and blogs and almost emptying the shelves at Mothercare & Boots in the UK - we seem to have some progress with the MAM Bottle :D Its an Australian brand and the Teet is silk, unlike most others which is silicone only! For the past few days, DD has been managing to "latch" and actively drink in the region on 20-25ml of milk from the bottle :) Huge progress, considering where we started! Not sure if you can find MAM in Dubai, but certainly worth a go for others who are trying to wean BF babies onto bottles!

We have tried all times of the day! Everyone who has come into our house has even been handed the task of trying! And i have evacuated the scene, so not to create confusion! I even tried sneaking in the teat when i was doing the dream feed, but she soon realized the difference and started playing around with the teat in her mouth! Its not that she refuses, she opens her mouth wide, wraps her hands around the bottle, accepts the teat but has no clue what to do with it :\: She seems so close, yet so far! And so eager too...am even beginning to feel sorry for her :( HK - the straws might be an option, so will have her play around with it for a bit!

Are you sure all her foods are non constipating? potatoes, cereal, rice, bananas, carrots, apples, corn, pumpkin anything starchy in general can be constipating, as can too large an amount of any solids in general. ? Apricots, peaches, plums, kiwifruit, all good for relieving constipation as is pear or apple juice (and prune juice of course) DS has stewed peaches and figs with his breakfast and it certainly keeps him regular ;). Try not to give her dairy products and see if that helps. KS - I was always under the impression that apples, pears and carrots are non-constipating!?!? She has had no potatoes and banana's yet as i know these are big constipation culprits! Don't mind giving peaches, apricots and plums a go, but might hold off on the Kiwi Fruit until she is a little but older. And not much diary products yet, she has only had a few spoons of yoghurt every other day.

Oh dear plumie! My DD is the same age as yours and not only is she refusing the bottle, but also any type of solids!! So that means she wants to nurse every 2 hours!! I feel like I am going to go crazy! Hugs to you and good luck! Could our babies have been separated at birth?!?! No issues with the solids *now*...it was a challenge in the beginning though, BUT the bottle is doing my head in - aaarrrggghhh :/: **Off to purchase some more patience**

They ship direct to Dubai at no cost, and packages normally take a few days to arrive! And no complaints about the prices either! Maternity Clothing in Dubai is a rip off as they know the supply does not meet the demand so they can afford to charge you an arm and a leg for something very plain and basic :/: edited by plumie on 17/06/2011

You may not want to try another bottle, but the only bottle my daughter ever like was the one from Just Kidding - its orange and called Thinkbaby. The nipple is really different than any other bottle, and it was the only thing my daughter would ever use. Guinness - what is the shape of the teat? Will have a look at it when i am back in Dubai in a few weeks time! 2Blossom - good to know that someone else feels my pain! Was beginning to think DD is from another planet ;)

Is she having solids? Give her prune juice by spoon or mix it in with her food. It isn't normal for an EBF (no solids) baby to be truly constipated, if she has started solids I would look at what you are giving her rather than thinking it is a dehydration thing. Try a regular plastic cup rather than a sippy it easier. She has just moved on to 3 "meals" a day. I started weaning her at 5 months and ever since then it has been "stop-go-stop-go" as she always ends up being constipated after about 3 days... And it does not matter what i give her, i even cut out all foods or fruit which is linked to constipation, but she still ends up struggling to pass bowels :( Most of her foods are "bowel friendly", however it has made no difference. I thought about mixing the prune juice in with her food but cant keep doing this either!? When i give her the sippy cup, i take off the teat and use it as a normal cup, but again - it just spills and runs everywhere! Am really beginning to think she has a digestive problem or she has been traumatized by a bottle and syringe :\: And she has never ever taken to a pacifier either! This i have no qualms with, as it could be a blessing in disguise, but again just one of her ways of accepting nothing other than Mummy's boob in her mouth!

Tommee Tippee, Avent, NUK, Nuby, Mag Mag, Dr Browns, Dr Wheils - you name it, I have tried them all - DD still battles to suck from a bottle! She has been EBF and is now 6 months old and I desperately want to move her on to a bottle to drink water or even EBM, but no luck :( She has made progress though, before she would purse her lips at the sight of a bottle, now she willingly opens her mouth, reaches out with her hands, but once the teet is in her mouth she does not suck?! I'm using the free-flowing teats the water or juice just flows out of her mouth. With the other teats, she bites them! It's almost as if she has an aversion to anything other than the boob :\: Am really starting to pull my hair out now as she is constantly constipated and it becomes such a battle trying to get her to drink water, prune juice or OJ from the bottle! I've resorted to syringe feeding her liquids but this just ends up I a screaming match :/: No luck with sippy cups either! If anyone has some tips or tricks - please, please share them with me as my brain has hit a brick wall as i can't be spending all her college fund money on bottles and teats anymore :/:

Thanks Plumie and Pentel again I thought that was a long time but reading Gina Ford and thought I could try that routine. As thinking no routine is part of the problem. Maybe bad idea. Do you always wake baby at the same time in the morning? I usually just let her wake up whenever she does and that can range from 6 to 8. Mornings - I always wake her, unless she wakes by herself at 7! Never let her go longer than 7am. If she wakes before this, I leave her in her cot, until 7am - walk in, open the curtains, pick her up, we have a look outside the window (to switch the brain in to day mode) and then we start the day. And the same with night time, wind down at 6am (book, singing), bath at 6:15, massage, feed and then in bed by 7pm (non negotiable)

Thanks SA Babe I think that could be some of the problem, she is not in a routine. I have just been demand feeding. I have been trying to push her towards 4 hr feeds but don't think it's working. 4hrs?! IMO that is too long a stretch for a breastfed baby at that age. 3hrs should be do-able! What worked with DD - when she woke I would give her a quick feed (normally 4/5min, sometimes even less) then she would have her "play time", she would then take her full feed just before her nap. Worth a try?

Another EASY follower :) If you don't have the book, I highly recommend getting it or Healthy Sleep Habits by Marc Weissburg is another excellent one! We also worked with Cecile to help us sort out DD's sleep challenges and had it cracked within a few weeks! If you do decided to do sleep training, be patient as it takes 2 weeks to develop a bad habit and 2 weeks to break one!!! - A baby at that age, can go 1.5hrs max 2hrs awake time. Anything longer than this and you will have a battle on your hands! The older they get, the longer the awake time will become. - Also watch out for "tired signs" - sneezing, blank stare, sneezing, hiccuping, rubbing eyes etc. As soon as these appear, you know it is time for bed. - Consistency is key! Babies learn by "repitition" - so try to do the same things every time baby goes down for a nap. Draw curtains, sing a lullaby, play white noise, swaddle, cuddle etc We went with controlled crying, it was a tough 2 weeks - but paid off huge dividends when all the hard work was done! Locked myself indoors for 2 weeks and cemented our plan! Like with anything, sleeping is a skill and CAN be trained, it's the trainer/s that need to be consistent, determined and Mum & Dad both need to be on the same page :) Good luck x edited by plumie on 03/06/2011

How old is she? Anyway try to remember she truly has no idea the bite hurts you and doesn't understand the no, just that she was having a nice drink, played with her new teeth and now mummy is making a scary loud noise. I know the NO works for some babies but my guy was really sensitive about it too and for other babies it turns it into a game (I bite here, mummy makes a noise). DD is 6 months old. Your last statement sounds exactly what she is doing...thinking it's a a game! As soon as she "bites" she looks up at me :\: I'm so tense, my neck and back muscles are aching...and I know this is not making the situation or our BF'ing relationship anymore comfortable! Even though her pearly whites are tiny, and she does not really clamp down, it hurts real bad :(

Also is she biting or is it a problem with her latch that she is not covering her teeth with her tongue, check your positioning? Latch seems to be fine as her tongue is always covering her lower jaw when I draw her to the breast! She has always had a habit of feeding for 3/4min, takes a break or "breather" for a few minutes and then latches again to finish her feed. It's when she comes off for this "break" that she tugs or bites down on the n*pple and the starts looking around :/: Her nose has been blocked and runny for the past few days, so I am not sure if it is associated with difficulty in breathing perhaps?!?!

Started BF'ing as soon as all vitals were checked and I was stitched up! So basically, before I even left the theatre :) DH stayed with me in hospital for all 4 days and he was amazing in helping with the Breastfeeds! He would literally hand DD to me every 2/3 hrs, pop her on the breast, and as soon as she was done feeding, came and took her from me again! Of course that all changed once we were back home, and I was flying "solo", as he had to return back to work ;)

lol plumie...they've been coached, and they are very young. Nerves were understandably a bit high. Still Laurens voice was thready and weak (and yes: I know about the vocal chord blow out) Scotty...cocky or not, still delivers solidly everytime. Laurens mothers song choice was designed to tip the balance, and i don't like to be manipulated so obviously. Go Scottie. He is a far more natural performer, and he managed to control that head tilt/eyebrow thing AND he stayed away from his signature deep down low growly finish. 3 meals a day is quite a lot at 6 months, I do remember my guy not wanting to chew on much when his teeth came through. The others I can't help you with unless you have introduced a new food. Oatmeal caused a lot of reflux in out house. DD *took* well to eating 3 meals a day, when I mean 3 meals - 1 teaspoon rice cereal + 1 teaspoon fruit puree for breakfast and lunch and evenings 1 teaspoon rice cereal + 1 teaspoon tooth vegetable. Before I had her on this eating plan, she went from sleeping through the night, to wanting to feed every 3hrs, introduced the meals and she slept through the night again! So all indicators where there that she needed the extra calories?!
