This was at around 5-6 months old too. I started weaning DD at 4 months and DS at 5.5 edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 01/04/2011 H.A.K - do you mind if I pick your brain quickly? After much debate on Wednesday with others re: weaning at 4months or 6months, I decided to give it a go! DD is 17 weeks on Sunday and I started with one teaspoon of baby rice cereal mixed with breast milk at 4:30pm. This seems to be such a controversial subject ie. digestive systems aren't ready, food allergies... What made you decide to wean at 4 months? And which plan did you follow after the rice cereal?

- Stock up on Bonjela!!! You can get it at Boots for 15aed a tube! Rub it on the gums whenever she is in discomfort. - Ashton & Parsons powder to rub on the tongue - Tommee Tippee makes a teething dummy - flat on both side with ridges & bumps that they can bit on. I bought mine at Spinneys in the week - And you can also buy her a Amber Teething necklace. Babysouk sells them online or you can get them from a store in Festival City. Good luck! DD is currently teething and I know how frustrating it can be :(

I wish it was that easy GQ - but not always the case with all babies :( Have tried everything you listed below, have tried what Meals has suggested, DH has tried different times of the day, have tried with me in the house, have tried with me out of the house - she just never ever accepted anything other than my teet! DD is 16 weeks and we also tried from the very beginning!

TMac - unfortunately Infant Gaviscon is not available in Dubai! No idea why :\: Shaf - try 1ml Gripe Water + 1ml Infacol + 3ml water. Give half in the morning and half later in the day or when needed! DD suffered terribly from winds and gas at around the same mark as your DD! I struggled for weeks giving her everything i could, until Cecile recommended this mixture! She was able to break winds easier and seemed more "settled" DD also had esophageal reflux from about 4 weeks until about 12/13 weeks! Infant Gaviscon calmed her down when she was in pain and screaming the roof off! Another thing that also helped was giving her smaller feeds so that her tummy can digest a little at a time! The minute she ate too much - vomit everywhere :( She is 16 weeks now and **fingers crossed** we have not had a throw up in 2 weeks now, so i am hoping she has outgrown it already!

Around 16 - 19 weeks it tapered off, then last trimester it came back to haunt me again :/: Same as KellsBells - I also took Navidoxine, however it did not do too much for me as I was on Glucophage in the first trimester and that just made it worse!!! Morning sickness - yeah right! More like "All day Sickness" :\: However there is light at the end of the tunnel - once your beautiful baby is born, all will be forgotten in a split second :D

Hhhmmm, am starting to think it is teething too :( And I think I spoke too soon - crying, screaming and throwing up when we put her down for the night time! She did however only throw up when we gave her the Calpol :( And she literally sucked the life out of my shoulder when I held her, my shirt was soaking! She finally went down at 7:45pm and luckily I had DH here to help, no idea what I am going to do when he leaves on Tuesday?! :\:

No her sleep pattern has never been affected. Maybe she thinks you'll leave too? It must be so hard seeing this, especially for your DH :( I'm sure she will warm up to her daddy again very very soon. Hopefully someone will have some advice or have been through this before. Thanks chick! He leaves on Tuesday again and only back on Saturday :( Have a feeling just as she starts to warm up to him again, off he goes and then she is left wondering again?! Felt so bad for him yesterday :(

Was her sleeping pattern affected at all? When we went out for lunch in Thursday, she was quite fine and content when 2 of my friends held her whilst i ate my food! She even fell asleep whilst another friend pushed her in her buggy?!?! The fact that she gave DH the "cold shoulder" yesterday, makes it all so confusing :\: You think she knew he was gone? Became clingy as she was afraid i would leave her too?

Probably a good idea to discuss these challenges with a Lactation Consultant or Cecile. I know she charges 350aed per session, if you take the "pay as you go option", but not sure if it is the same rate for home visits?! What i would suggest you do - if you are planning on calling her soon, express some milk (even if only 30/40/50ml), leave it to stand overnight for at least 24hrs. The milk should "split" and you should get 3 layers, with the top player being a thicker more creamier consistency & the bottom layer more watery. That way if she comes over, she will be able to check your hind & fore milk balance! This will also be a good indicator if DD is getting enough hind milk (the creamy stuff), the milk that fills them up! Good luck and let us know how you get on xxx

Walking the next day (albeit hunched over) and sleeping normally as soon as I got home! However, everyone is different and will heal at different times in different ways! But please remember that having a C-Section is no different than having MAJOR surgery! It is important to be kind to your body and don't try to push it too hard the first few weeks! You won't win any medals! In saying that, it might be a good idea to have that pain checked out, as I agree with jwal - it does not sound normal?!

Whoohoo for the dripping :) That's progress already, baby steps! What happens when you take her off the breast? Does she cry? Does she come off by herself or do you take her off? How is your diet? Exercise is one of the best things you can do for you and baby during pregnancy! Keep it light, no heavy lifting, try and avoid sit ups and keep hydrated when working out! I walked 20min everyday on the treadmill, did light weights on the arms and did Aqua Aerobics until 38 weeks! ETA: Zen Yoga does Prenatal Pilates and Yoga of pregnant Mummies :) Just go onto their website and you can find all the details! They have a few locations around Dubai. edited by plumie on 24/03/2011

It will take time, took me weeks/months but finally i got there :) I also think the type of breast pump helps with the efficiency when expressing! Please consider seeing a Lactation Consultant Stovetop! You seem determined enough, and with a little help and a push in the right direction, you can establish a good breastfeeding relationship with your DD :) Hang in there, it takes time for you and your body to learn a new skill! And please sleep when baby sleeps! Your body is working hard when producing milk, and good rest aids regeneration and increases milk supply!

When DD goes through growth spurts and I turn into a human feeding machine, I normally tank up on natural yoghurt & almonds!!! They are "good" fats and a great way to increase calories for the hungry critters :) Keeps them fuller for longer! I also cut out any expressing as this will make them unnecessarily engorged, as her constant feeding is enough to empty them every time and keep my milk supply up - if you get my drift?!?! HTH

Fenugreek & Licithin both help to increase your milk supply. You can buy it at any health store! Both work wonders and you can see & feel thE difference within days :) Yoghurt & almonds are a great source of healthy fats which makes BM more calorie laiden thus filling baby up! I have a large bowl of yoghurt, topped with a spoonful of crushed almonds & berries, everyday! Would it be an option to consult with a lactation consultant, just to set you on the right track? Cecile De Scally is wonderful and does home visits for newborns! Nothing is a futile attempt, as this is something new to you and your body! Breast milk works on demand, so the more you feed - the more the body will produce! Try expressing when the breast is full, this way you can have an idea of how much she is actually getting out if she empties it! I can't answer on the formula! Have you tried not topping her up? What happens? Hang in there! edited by plumie on 18/03/2011

350 per pay as you go session and like us, we took the package and started at 6weeks until DD is on solids - 2300aed! Starts off with 1hr weekly sessions, then bi-weekly then monthly. Determination, perseverance & will power, will get you through these first few tough days! The 2 week and 6 mark will be the toughest as this is when most babies go through major growth spurts! You will feel like a human feeding machine, but know that it will get better and your baby is taking from you what it needs ;) Ensure the latch is correct (kellymom.com is a great resource for anything baby & breastfeeding related), get a good breastfeeding pillow (I use My Brestfriend and it has made feeding so much more comfortable), make sure you are comfortable before positioning baby, Lansinoh after every feed and air dry as much as possible!!! Panadol for the really painful days and water to keep you rehydrated! Also, if baby has latched on incorrectly, make sure you de-latch properly by gently wedging your pinky finger in her mouth and taking her off, instead of just pulling her off! Doing it incorrectly can cause painful nipples as well :/: You are doing a wonderful job, and when the going gets tough, just reach out and I am sure the wonderful ladies on EW will get you through it :)

Hi Plumie, which brand of video monitor do you have? mine is Safety 1st, which i had not thought to use yet!:\: but on practice the picture is grainy so wouldn't mind a vote for another brand - as it seems that DS may move to his own room soon ;) http://www.tomy.co.uk/products/digital-video-monitor-tdv450/?parent=887 Really happy with the quality, however like most video monitors the range is not that long! So works perfectly at night when it is next to the bed in arms reach ;) If I am downstairs, it works as far as the staircase, so I just rest it on the bottom step! Bought it at Babyshop.

And I have a whole closet full of beautiful clothing and shoes which I refuse to part with and I refuse to buy a bigger size, even if it means I am still wearing my maternity dresses until I can claim my old body back :D I SHALL conquer this ;)

That's where my video monitor comes in super handy!!! If something is wrong with DD she will tell me - her voice will reach octaves that could wake the neighbors ;) Like adults, babies also doing the whole "settling" in when going to sleep! Nobody just climbs into bed and falls asleep straight away!? So the grunting, snorting, clearing of throat is all pretty normal, and often when they are going in and out of sleep cycles they will "settle" in again! I've never had to go in to DD's room, just a quick check on the monitor, and that's that! If I do wake during the night and I am "worried" about her, the monitor is clear as daylight and I can see her perfectly ;) The monitor is also set, to only go off if her voice reaches a certain volume. So it does not go off for every whimper, only when she really needs me ;)

Plumie how long does your LO usually sleep at night? From what time to what time? I am getitng DD into a routine slowley but some days are completly different to others. We have to catch up for that coffee. sent you an email 7pm - 7am :D And that us a HUGE grin as it was no easy task getting her to sleep through! I don't do a dream feed at 10pm as she does not take the bottle, and shoving the boob in her mouth did not work either! So she normally wakes between 2-3am, i go in, change her diaper, feed her, burp her and back down in about 40min! And then sleeps through until 7am! A few mornings she has woken at 4:30/5am for her dream feed, same procedure and then wakes at 7am again! I am hoping this is steering in the direction of her dropping her dream feed on her own! She has been sleeping through the night since 6weeks old (when we moved her into her own room) and has been going down at 7am since 9 weeks! Before that, we were sleep training her and taking anywhere from 1 - 2hrs to get her to sleep! So she was going down anywhere from 7am - 8:30pm, however when she went down, she would still sleep through the night! Will check mail in a while x

Another EASY follower :D However, sometimes i do AESY, and it works just as good! I also tried to follow the routine by the book, but DD was having none of it! I then used the guidelines and adapted it to her, as each baby is different! My DD is also 3 months old and we started sleep training with Cecile when she was 6 weeks old! Night time works like clockwork now - 5:30pm wind down time - usually a book, tummy time or some gentle stimulation with a toy! 6pm - bath, 7pm tucked in and lights off! When i started implementing this - DD resisted when i put her down, however it took a few weeks of perseverance and consistency and it is finally paying off :D Mornings is her alert time, so i usually follow her cues! Sometimes she is ready for a nap after 1.5hrs of waking, other mornings 2.5hrs of waking! Putting her down when she is not "ready" just causes her to go into a tantrum, and winds her up unnecessarily! I also learnt that DD likes to cluster feed in the mornings, so EAESY works a treat! However, if she shows her tired signs (sneezing, yawning and blinking of the eyes) she goes down immediately! Something else that also works, i swaddle her for all her naps! She has now learnt that swaddling, a quick cuddle = sleep time ;) As she is most alert in the mornings, we have started doing activities now, and she has handled herself very well as the timings are in the mornings. We have enrolled for Boogie Babies and i also do 2 BuggEfit classes during the week! She normally has her longest nap from 2pm-ish until 5pm! If i am out during her longest sleep stretch in the afternoon, she sometimes takes a power nap, and i will start the wind down routine as soon as i get home! I tried getting DD into a routine with set timings, but this did not work for us! Now i rather go by her sleep cues and it works much better for both of us ;) I have found that DD has also become very alert, and tends to look around for a good 10 minutes before drifting off! She now has a canopy over her cot and i have taken all toys out of her travel cot which is downstairs. If she does grizzle a bit, i don't pick her up, instead just go in, pat and shush and leave the room again! If she grizzles some more, i pick her up for 2 minutes, put her back down and then she normally drifts off! HTH

For location - The Westin Paris was spot on!!! Awesome views of the City, walking distance to the Louvre Museum and Tuileries Garden, Eiffel Tower, Place Vendôme and Place de la Concorde. I used to sit on my balcony in the mornings, sip my tea whilst marveling at the Louvre Museum :) The Champs-Elysées is also just a few minutes away! But beware - leave you credit card at the hotel, you will be broke once you have finished walking the famous strip :D And ditto on the shoes! I made a mistake and had "strappy" sandals on which did not do well with walking through all the narrow little streets! Quickly had to remedy it by picking up a pair of Scholl's to aid all the sight seeing we were doing ;) And a ticket on the Big Red Bus is a must as it can get you anywhere! Little Missy will be fine :)

We've done standing, sitting and VIP :) Either way was always comfortable, but mostly standing at the small stages and sitting at the big stage! Mind blanks - but i "think" last year it was sitting at the big stage! Enjoy, we are heading that way too tomorrow night, cant wait to see TRAIN!!! Edited to add: parking and taxi's can be a nightmare! So either be prepared to get there early to get a good parking spot, or walk a distance to get a taxi! The first year we walked to Barasti and waited 1hr+ for a taxi and last year we went to Media One hotel for drinks afterwards and took a taxi from there! edited by plumie on 17/02/2011

Thank you yes! I've now realised I have to be a bit more ingenious! I have a hospital grade medela pump as well as a pump n style. I can just use the pump in style whilst walking with DD around the house! Great tip! Thanks again! Hope it can work for you LD! It took a while for me to get the "rhythm" right, but eventually got there! I would just sing to her or distract her if she starts getting fussy on the shoulder! Put her down for 5min to detach the pump, unscrew the bottle or take off the milk bag and store it in the fridge/freezer! If she kicks off during this time - then so be it x

I don't exclusively pump, however pump regularly. What pump are you using LD? When DD has a cranky day & wants to be only on Mummy's arm - I clip the pump on, attach the "machine" to my pants/trousers, freeing my hands which means I can still hold her! So basically - baby on one side and pump on the other :) We bought the Medela Freestyle (twin pumps) and it has been a lifesaver and one of the best purchases we have made! Not sure if that has helped?!
