its nice to see that we're all on the same page, m_king :) most of the time i find myself surrounded by debaters and pro-dress like a tr*ll*p/skewed understanding of freedom types. Strange to say the least how much this topic comes under freedom of expression for some.

You and I, Princess_I, may regard that as not very positive attention, but unfortunately, most women see that as the most positive form of attention..its all about individual perceptions i suppose...and i noticed here, its particularly skewed...again..my guess is insecurity issues

Perhaps they don't from the culture itself, and from most other females..behind closed doors or on forums... but generally, and specifically from the male population (of certain nationalities), they do...i noticed here there's more of a "the sleazier the better" approach

frankly i don't understand the need some women have here to dress so noticeably. I don't like passing judgement on people's choices in clothing, regardless how bizarre it may be, but taste is one thing, and the need to be noticed/provocative is a whole other thing..and it feels like most women here are into the latter. I just don't get it. A mall is a mall, why dress up like a barbie to one? Again, its not my place to question or judge, but it really baffles me. And i have noticed it is practiced here more-so than in countries where there are no strict dress code rules! Perhaps the insecurity levels in women here are higher than anywhere else, and the need to flash their flesh/fancy clothes is the way to overcome those insecurities? At least thats what it looks like from afar.

just found this article on gulf news...seems it is only directed to courts/prosecution premises..in which case it is only fair....i was under the impression they were going to implement this throughout Dubai... I also agree with the rest in regards to the amount of people out here who dress inappropriately . its just pathetic to be honest. Its not that hard, and it makes zero difference in ones life if they have to cover up/dress modestly as per local law. I don't see why people continuously insist on disregarding what the local government tries to implement here. It's really not that big a deal. I love fashion and work in fashion..i keep an open mind about all kinds of tastes and preferences, and love to wear figure hugging, feminine dresses, or the occasional low cut top (all within reason of course, and at appropriate locations), but for the sake of respecting where i live i have no problem dressing appropriately in public places...it has zero effect on my life!! its not hard/challenging, nor do i feel like it limits any "freedom" rights as some like to argue...i personally think those who make such a big deal out of covering up or dressing modestly (and go out of their way to go against it) are just plain idiots with nothing better to do in life.

Instead of coming up with new "rules" they should focus on implementing the existing ones. most security guards in malls/public places are too afraid to say anything to visitors who are inappropriately dressed, and even if they do say anything they are never taken seriously enough. Most of this stems from the general treatment of lower class workers here. There is enough awareness here on how we SHOULD be dressing in public areas, and there are certainly enough rules and guidelines. It's a matter of proper implementation. Coming up with bizarre new additions is just plain unnecessary.

err I'm not a fan of acid wash jeans either...but what do they and casual clothes have to do with "offending" people? I'm all for following code of conduct in a country where i am still a guest...after 21 years...but acid washed denim and casual clothes not being allowed? Isn't that a bit much? Who do they offend? Casual clothes can stay casual and still adhere to required lengths and cover up a person modestly. This article confuses me. We are asked to dress according to religious and traditional preferences here, which i am all for and have followed all these years...but including things like acid washed denim and casual clothes seems to border on taste patrol.

PN, great news, thanks! Yes, this job IS a lot of fun, i used to enjoy it a lot, even made a couple of friends who i`m still in touch with. Btw, do you know if she works for one company (has contract with) or does different jobs through the agency? she works with several promotional agencies..but started out with one at first, which also brought her quite a bit of work...its just easier to work with several agencies, and financially more rewarding...my younger sister also does promo work apart from her full time job, and she too always insisted several agencies is better than sticking to one.

A friend of mine is 33 and pretty much survives on part time promo work. She lost her job a year ago, and due to family issues, constantly has to travel back to her home country making it impossible for her to actually commit to a full time job...so she has been doing promo work full time for a year now and brings in about 10-20k a month...plenty of the other girls she works with are over 30 as well...so i say go for it :) hope you get hired and have a great time :)

Problem solved!!! I had my German Shepherd fly in from Russia a few days ago...so she's still a bit jumpy and nervous from the long haul move...everytime i take her out for a walk, the hallway folk spread into separate directions...she's got very long fur, and is a massive 45kg (not overweight, just seriously large)...noone makes anymore loud noises....toys are promptly picked up..and the maids no longer sit in the hallway..they're all too afraid of her because of how massive she is, and how eager she is to meet/smell new folk :)))) everytime the noise decibels go up outdoors, she gives a nice short growl from under the door...all noises cease and desist...kind of mean...but kind of empowering!! hehehe

Thing is, the other day i was shifting my parrot into his new cage, and as he was climbing in he fell of his new perch and let out a nano-second squeal...three minutes later, my neighbour (four kids, two maids, one of the loudest in that wing), knocks on my door and says "could you please not let that squeal happen again, we're all trying to sleep before playtime). It was 4pm in the afternoon. An hour before their prolonged "squealing" sessions. I was gobsmacked. I didn't even have time to react. My parrot squealed INSIDE, and it was barely a second long. Please -stop - you are doing terrible things to my blood pressure! ;) I think it is time you stopped being polite/ passive and took some action with them. I understand that being new to the building you are being polite and don't want to ruffle anyones feathers - bu really they are trampling all over you! hehe sorry Genie :) i definitely will say something to either them, or the building management. I just wanted to check that im within my rights to do so :)

I'm surprised at that. When I lived in The Lakes the maids (mine included) were always to keen to take the kids to the park in the afternoon so they could all get together and gossip under the guise of "work". Sometimes they would even look up and check on the kids too. We had annoying maids, you have annoying parents lol! I used to live in the Lakes..i remember those maids :)

I would imagine that the maids and kids aren't out there at the insistence of the parents, but so the maids can congregate out of the heat. i have noticed on several occasions that it was in face the parent(s) who instructed this daily routine....the parents bring out the toys/bikes/QUAD BIKES/ etc and then send the maids out. The parents in my wing are in cahoots with this daily play date thing. Six apartments - each with two kids minimum.

I would just tell them to get off my mat, especially as they are being so nosey. Tell them every single time you see them then they might get so fed up of having to move that they won't bother in the end. Oh, and......cooler weather is just a few weeks away ;) I can't wait for cooler weather!! on my balcony, i can't hear the friday morning/afternoon screams :)))) I have wanted to say something to the maids, but always felt kind of bad....i mean its their job to take these kids out to the corridors for hours on end...their employers tell them so...i guess when they get tired of bike wheels being rammed into their shins, they have no choice but to sit in the corridors as they can't leave the kids alone...i am more partial to blaming the parents tbh

Thanks Ladies...thank god im not nuts :) Yes there is a 24hr maintenance/building management company. I have called once about the walls being repainted, and they have done so, but i'll call again and complain about the public park in front of my door in that case. I just wasnt' sure if this was appropriate or i was too hasty with my frustrations.

I understand...it's just one of those things we have to accept for now True..especially give the conditions of zoos and animal caretakers here Not that it a) makes it right or b) i approve of it.

I have an old classmate of mine on facebook who displayed a whole album of his "pet" cheetah. Now, i haven't spoken to the person in 10 years, but i have always itched to report the matter. Would i be in the right to do so? I do not have his contacts, or location...his name on facebook isn't even his real name..but the album is there, and it makes me cringe everytime..do you ladies reckon i should give it a go and report him, or is it simply none of my business?

Also there is crab hunting (not sure if its Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain)..very popular...i personally can't stomach it, but my father who's the same age as your dad, enjoyed it thoroughly If i think of anything else i'll let you know..my father always has friends coming over and manages to come up with fun things to do...its been twenty years now, and he still manages to surprise us with his ideas!

Ive always had a household filled with both cats and dogs, and as far as i can remember this was a constant problem (in the beginning)...tried all kinds of various Vitamin supplements as per vet recommendations, but none seemed to work...ever...they still attempt the nasty habit....as mentioned by other posters on here, your best bet is to keep the litter in a separate room, with the door closed..cats tend to learn to ASK to be let in when they need to go..thats for when you're home, when you're not home, perhaps keep the litter and the cat separate somewhere. Some dogs grow out of the habit, some don't...when you're home, perhaps with proper corrections, they eventually learn to not come near the litter...but when you're away, they'll attempt it again...

My pleasure :) I'm very sorry about your loss. That is a tough situation to go through. I think you should at least consider the MRI and CT scans just in case. These vertigo related issues are sometimes actually symptoms of something else. its always best to rule everything out On a separate note, could you possibly tell me which doctor you have been using? I was diagnosed in a different country, but wanted to do a follow up here due to an increase of strength in symptoms..would greatly appreciate a referral.

SuzyDuzy; i have been diagnosed with something that has a lot lighter side effects than yours; Meniere's Disease..but the dizziness/vestibular system issues are there as well..while going through my diagnosis/doctors trips, a number of possibilities came up..through different tests, which had the MRI and catscan (got both just in case), we finally came to a diagnosis...i personally would highly recommend them..especially since your symptoms are not very light...you mentioned "what i have is not so serious" which leads me to believe you have already been diagnosed, but i do highly recommend you read up on Meniere's disease, MdDs, Labyrinthitis etc...and again, just in case, i would also recommend an MRI/CT scan/ENG..

AussiePup; i feel so sorry for you having to deal with all this and in your condition!! I have faced something similar at my previous apartment...i lost 80% of my belongings due to floods and lack of proper attention from LL and maintenance co,..so i actually contacted a lawyer friend of mine, who said it is completely within my rights to call the police and have them come down, take pictures and step in to pressure landlord/maintenance to help you properly and as fast as they can...after some consideration, and three restless nights, i gave it a go, and it really helped..cops showed up, took pictures, and sorted the whole thing out within a day! Everything was properly fixed, cleaned up, and the LL never made a peep...mind you, it was my 2nd flood in said apartment, and first time round even though i was promised everything would be paid for by LL. it never happened...it took me months and months of battling, just to be turned down, and my photos weren't enough...so, if you're still not sorted before Eid holidays, i really suggest you get police involved

yes, but how? Just me on my own with a few ideas isnt going to get far....i dont' have many "forces" to offer :) but collectively, sure why not, whoever we join it makes a difference Im not trying to re-invent the wheel...im looking for group ideas/effort to help..as i said, one person's help doesn't have as much impact as a group of people will...maybe if we gather enough people, we can offer whatever help to K9, FF....they do need help, i agree, and why not give them that help, through a collaboration of efforts, ideas, and resources. dmum; im not saying they're not doing enough...im just saying with a bit more help and enthusiasm from others, they can do more...again...collective effort and help. <em>edited by PN on 25/08/2011</em>

Morning Ladies, I do what i can with my free time, and i realize all these places are over flowing, especially lately..a lot of people leaving and abandoning their animals, and a lot of people unable to adopt due to their own situations...and i agree, there aren't enough places around that can take on more animals...money wise, i donate whatever it is that i can..i help some vets as well...but these are all my little individual efforts, and i wanted to know how possible is it to do something more through a collective effort...there's only so much one person can do on their own...if i could, id take in more animals, but my house is full with four pets, and i simply wouldnt be able to accommodate more at the moment....hence why i posted this here... maybe if we can organize more awareness groups, bigger volunteer outlets, perhaps something CAN actually be done? I am sure many people help, individually with their own efforts and money, but perhaps a group effort would be able to do more.... i like the idea of fundraisers, organizations to raise more money, awareness, and unfortunately this country doesn't really offer much support to such ideas...in any case, i've done this in the past...i would just drive around with friends through areas that seem to have the most abandoned animals and pick them up...and then either foster them with friends, or find them place in shelters....but as most of you pointed out, there isnt' always room...so again, this is why i wanted to bring this issue up...maybe through brainstorming we could come up with enough people to actually have a potential and doable plan on our hands. Maybe in a big group we would have a slim chance of something hearing us in the proper authorities to support such causes...or maybe we could actually come up with a big enough fund raiser/event to give this a good kick start...im basically calling out to mass effort rather than me doing my usual donations/individual help
