Hi, u can look at SEK Qatar @ west bay it's an IB school GEMS Academy is not in Doha. It is located in Al Wakra, Qatar. Pls do not underestimate the driving to/from school, you being located in West Bay (or close to it). Esp for bus transportation ; how early would you be happy to put your KG2 year old on the bus in the morning? Somebody I know, with excellent driving skills (both decent and "Doha driving" skills) that lives in Villaggio area (opposite end of the city than Onaliza, towards Wakra actually) lives her house 10 to 7 am to reach school. Other than that, the school seems to be very ok, given it's short term notice opening of this year. All that it seems it is lacking is…kids. There is currently only one 5-th grade class that started in Aug with 7 kids and before December had 8 or 9 kids. So much so that for music, for example 3 different grades get together to do the class. Definitely a school worth considering, too bad they do not advertise more. I would not compromise on schools and kids' transportation in this country. Rather on the location I live in.

Hi, I have received a mail from DBS for an assesment for my son, they are opening a new branch in Alwakrah. Just incase u wanna apply uote=Eleonor'>dear friends, thanks for the support. I tried to call SEK but with no result, they don't answer the phone. Maybe they are too busy. May I ask you which are the new two schools which are going to open in West Bay? thank you very much. Eleonor Any way with 2 new schools opening near by in September West Bay will be well served by schools.

@E: My son will be going to grade 2, also my accept was surprisingly sitting in the junk mail where as the other communication from them was not also only I received the accept mail and not my husband. May be you should call, we had a very pleasant experience with the admissions dept. uote=Eleonor'>dear Lalala and purpleviolet, may I ask you in which grade will be your children next year at SEK? I am asking because we applied too, we did the assessment (Flying to Barcelona for the assesment from Italy!!), but we have been told that our daughter is in waiting list. We asked to have the results of the school assessment and to know what is the position in waiting list, but we never had the reply, and I did not like this behaviour at all!! I think that, after having paid for the assessment, the least we deserve is a feedback. thank you!!!! Eleonor My son goes there and my daughter will go next year. Very happy with the school (only school my daughter applied to). Do you have any specific questions?

DH's friend has a resort out that way... Well, I think it's just off Koh Samui actually. It's called the Koh Tao Royal Resort I think. Booking as a package is simpler, but I think it does cost more. Koh Samui has it's own airport which you would fly to from Bangkok/Phuket... Amari reef

Thank you, Lalala I will touch base with ISLQ nd Sherborne. Cost is not a factor, home schooling is something I don't want to do. Quality of education and school environment is v imp . My DH moves in Jan would like to move as soon as psbl, provided admissions come along. How is ASD vs British schools ...any idea?

Hello again ladies, Thankyou for your input.... I gather schools are oversubscribed and long waiting I have initiated contacts with few schools online most informed for 2014-2015 forms will be available in jan.. Would it be better to visit and apply as in does it make my chances any better vs online. I believe getting a seat can take upto 2years, I plan to move my kids subsequent to securing admission . How are the indian schools, information online do not favour the quality of education in indian schools, would it be a good idea to take up admission in an indian school and keep trying for Igcse/Ib.

Thank you all, that's a lot of insight to begin with. @ baby Amazon : the rumour is correct, we have been categorically informed that the housing will be company provided as in there is no choice so far. Where r u from ? @ catonclan: Thankyou and hoping to bump into u some day. I have been reading about the school bit on this forum and some where I did read people queue up for application on 1st jan . I was wondering if I should be there around that time. @ bechamel: hey , tks. I have already dropped in a couple of mails to school some indicated online application ...am not clear do ppl who are there physically applying stand a better chance. I am coming from India. Where r u from

Hi, Thank you for your quick reply, we have been informed we would be given company accommodation a permanent one, hence was wondering where are the co sponsored houses usually located, does AKG have pilot community residing there whilst working with QA. Also I was planning to visit last week of dec to 1st week of jan, for putting in applications would this be the right time. Will the schools be operational or closed for Christmas vacation. edited by purpleviolet on 25/06/2013

Hey Ladies, I see this thread is old, hoping to hear from some of you. We are moving to Qatar from India. My husband was recently offered a job as Captain A320 with Qatar Airways, he is been given a date of Jan 2014 to join . I was hoping to find wives of Qatar Airways pilots or women who work for the airline on this site. At this point, I'm trying to gather as much information as possible about what it would be like to live there and work there. I have two children, 6year old boy and a 2 year old daughter . Some questions I was hoping you all could help me answer: Housing : We have been informed that we would be provided company sponsored housing, however location has not been disclosed and would be provided only three weeks before joining. Can I possibly get pictures or locations of places where pilots (company sponsored) are put up. This would also help me to look at schools around the vicinity. Is the housing provided satisfactory? School: I have been reading so much about the difficulties to get admission in any of the good schools in Doha, We are looking at IB schools preferably, please advice on list of schools we can apply to. I am looking at academic year 2014-2015. Can I waitlist myself now for the next year . Also I am confused about the cut offs my son is March 2007 born and my daughter is June 2011, I would like to know which year(grade/level) would they be eligible for. Thanking you in advance. My email id is [email protected].
