Hi - In my opinion, I don't think this is something that will get sorted over the phone. She should go to QU with the DHL confirmation and start asking around.

Hi - I have a friend that lives out in Wakra. Her big issue is sport activities for the kids. You will be driving a ways for just about anything. There is a beach that is OK. Shallow water and the kids have fun exploring there. Barwa Village is not far and you will find shops there. Mega Mart grocery is out there when you need something that the local groceries might not carry.

Do you have your government health card? You will need that. You can find information online about what you need to get that. Get your appt and be seen by the doctor and then you will probably be on a waitlist for the surgery. I have had surgery there, my son has had surgery there...we had good experiences.

Hi - Depends on when he has to be at work...traffic is heavy getting off The Pearl until about 8:15 am during school times. Worst case, maybe 15-20 minutes to get to Katara red light. It then picks back up in the evenings. They are continually trying to improve this but... Without any traffic, I would say 30 minutes.

Hi - Since you plan on working, I would definitely get your degrees attested before moving over. My friend recently went through this and it is a lengthy process. Not hard, just a lot of back and forth. At least still being in the US will make it easier to handle. Might want to go ahead and get your FBI/Police Clearance done as well. Your local police station should offer free finger printing and then you mail that form to the FBI. Look online for details. Good luck with the move.

Hi - Y Village is not in a bad location. If your kids do get in ASD, it is not far. I just saw people talking about this compound on another forum and everyone had nice things to say. Leasing a car is a lot more expensive than buying. Even if only for two years. Kid's books and toys can be pricey. I would bring those. We have IKEA here so decent furniture isn't really an issue. Your place may come furnished anyway. One small thing - if your kids play sports, especially baseball, bring their gear. No new baseball stuff here but you can get some used things from the League. Other sporting stuff is pricey. You really can find just about everything here or suitable substitutes.

Hi - I know several AF families that do home schooling even if it is only until they get a spot. I would definitely put them on the wait list at ASD and hope for the best. I know one lady had her kids in two different schools because she couldn't get them all in ASD. Her other kids went to Compass and she was happy with them there as well. You should check out Doha Home Educators on Facebook and you can get some more info about home schooling. They also have a forum you can join if you intend to home school. There are a lot of us that get together for the co-op as well. Home schooling, even for a little bit, will probably be much cheaper than registering them in a school you have no desire to keep them in for the long run. Good luck with the move!

Hi - I think ASD would be really tough. We also moved back to Doha and now live at the Pearl (QQ) and we love it. We have three kids and having the beach here in QQ has made Doha feel totally different than our compound days. When it is nice, we walk to the movies, walk to the grocery, etc. I take the kids to baseball at ASD in the evenings and it takes me more than one hour. Morning traffic is heavy, usually until about 7:45.

Hi - I have never lived on this compound but I have always liked it. Have had a couple friends who lived there in the past. Very green and lots of families. Older compound so larger garden areas than some of the newer compounds. Decent location to lots of things too.

Hi - At our old villa, some years back, we had a fan installed in the top of the tank. For us, it worked fabulous. It won't be "cold" but you could shower mid-day and not burn yourself. I'm sorry I don't have the name of the company anymore but try searching "tank fans." They do exist. :)

Hi Lillyhammer - I don't want to put you off about Doha or your new job but that commute out to Wakra, then back to work, then back to Wakra and back home is just going to make you cry. Traffic is terrible at any given time and it does take a good amount of time to get out there regardless. Maybe you can ask your work if there is anything closer to your home?

Hi - When mine were that little, I always brought the concentrated infants drops but they certainly have pain/fever reliever here as well. I just can't remember if I have seen the specific drops. Also, any special lotion or soap your daughter might need. You really can find just about everything here. That being said, I just asked my mom to throw in some sour skittles in her next package. :)

Hi - If you do go the extra baggage route, the Samsonite Tote-A-Ton is very good and strong. We just moved back over here with 3 kids and "everything but the furniture" and I used 6 of these bags plus 2 hard suitcases for breakable items. I can store all six duffles in one hard case so that helps now that I'm here. I personally could not find any reasonably priced shipper that would ship half a container from the US to Qatar. Watch the price on Amazon. It may go down because I got mine for only $20 each. http://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-Tote-ton-Duffle-Luggage/dp/B004YZCZL4

Hi - In my opinion, that salary is low, especially with that school clause. You will be paying for both kids nursery/schooling for the first 6 months at least. Some information says the SEC will not allow kids to enter schools unless it is September but I know some schools do take kids during the year. Reception is a very tough age to find a spot though. Also, consider the cost of a car...we are currently renting an average sedan car and it is costing us almost $1000 a month! Once we buy, it will go down.

Hi - If your daughter goes to a nursery school you may want to talk to the teacher or assistant teachers and see if they are available. When I worked at a nursery, we provided parents with a list of ladies who liked to babysit in their free time. You would feel better having someone your child already knows and trust.

Don't be afraid of Hamad Hospital if you want to stay in Qatar for the birth. I had an excellent experience there with my 3rd child. Unbelievably inexpensive as well.

Thank you both. I will look into that unaccompanied baggage and see what I can find over here. I know excess baggage is the last resort but I really didn't want to always be the woman with 6 suitcases open at check-in trying to shift everything and make them all under weight. :) We'll see. And thank you for the welcome back. Never say never...that's all I've got to say. :)

Hi - I also had a baby at Hamad almost 4 yrs ago but when I was there, your husband could only go register for the private room once you were admitted. It was a first come, first serve basis. Luckily, one did open up for us and it was very nice. I stayed 3 nights after a c-section and the night before the actual surgery but not in a private room. They did a hearing check on her before leaving I remember that. When you get closer to your due date, you will have a meeting to discuss any questions you may have. I guess that's when you could bring up female staff, etc. I know it was 4 years ago, but I had a very good experience at Hamad. A lot of expat ladies don't use it but I had one baby at Al Ahli and one baby at Hamad and found the care/experience to be the same. They deliver a lot of babies there! :) Best of luck to you.

The Evolution 3G pitch, our indoor sports halls, and Evolution Sports Swimming Pool are all available to rent (subject to availability). For more information on booking the venue please contact our logistics team on [email protected].

Dr. Shahata also does non-IVF pregnancies in the evenings. You might have to see him in the morning clinic (IVF) since you are not actually pregnant. I went in with all my paperwork and doctor's reports at about 25 weeks or so and was given an appt. He is very busy though. I would just go by and talk to the reception ladies one morning and get a feel for things.

You are right about the grocery stores. I have a friend who asked some Carrefour executives about it once and they told her there is only one importer/clearing house for groceries here and then everyone basically has to try and get it first.

Hi - Immunisation clinic is by far the easiest. It's not in Abu Hamour anymore it moved to Messaimer and is located across from the very end of Wholesale Market. Coming from Salwa, towards alcohol shop, it's on the right. So simple, quick and free. Take Hamad immunisation card.

You should write a letter to the Gulf Times. It just keeps happening at all major events it seems. And it probably will continue until people are trained to deal with it and security guards actually do their jobs instead of trying to protect their jobs. I'm guessing these security guards weren't at the recent Sports Security Conference at Aspire...What a joke.

They also have applesauce in the fridge section at Carrefour. Even no sugar added ones too.
