We are going tonight and I was wondering what the taxi/ parking situation was like? Deciding whether to drive or take a cab but just concerned about waiting hours after for a cab back home.

Hi My son is currently in KG2 at UAS and it is our second year at the school. I cannot praise it enough. For both years, his teachers have been excellent. Yes, he has homework, but age and level appropriate. UAS follows the IB primary years programme. The fees keep going up, which is my only complaint! Good luck with you choice.

Hi Santa1101 My son is at UAS and did his assessment for KG1 the year before last. The assessment is one on one with a KG1 teacher. It was a while ago so I can't remember everything, but I remember my son was asked his name, to count to ten, to draw a picture of himself, to do a puzzle she gave him, to idenitify shapes that she showed him and colours...and then the majority of the assessment was chatting to me about his interests, what he enjoys playing at the moment, basics like if he was potty trained etc. Also my expectations for him in Kindergarten etc. It was very easy going. By the way, we are thrilled with the school and my son is very happy there. I am not sure about additional support needs for speech delays etc. You would need to speak to them. There are many bilingual children at the school. I would say the majority, so you may find they are not actually delayed. All the best

Dr.Sant is wonderful. She delivered my daughter by c-section at City 18 months ago. You are in good hands. I was so nervous about a c section because my first child was a natural delivery. The anaesthetist was a lovely gentle man who was also very caring during the delivery and was telling my husband and I now everything was going. I can't remember his name. I found the nursing staff mixed. I had some awesome ones and some that weren't as good, but overall my experience was great. All the best!

oh my goodness, this happened to me too. when I was living in the UK, some friends invited me and my husband to an old cottage in the country for a weekend. the first night I had this happen to me. I couldn't move, tried to scream to my husband but no sound would come out (we had twin beds in the room, so he wasn't right next to me). eventually it passed, but I was absolutely terrified. I felt sure it had been some spirit entering my body! Didn't help matter that the place we were staying in was kinda creepy too! It only ever happended to me that one time, but I have never forgotten it!

Hi We have lived here over 5 years and my husband recently changed jobs. We have started the process of cancelling the old visas and getting new ones. Now suddenly the CEO of the new company is thinking about only paying the visa costs for my husband's visa but not the costs for me and the kids. Has anyone else had this happen? I just thought it was a given that our visa costs would be covered by the company he had joined. It is a big whack to suddenly have to pay out.

Hi Travel5 My son goes to UAS and I also want to sing its praises. It is a wonderful school and my son loves it there. ASD does have a good reputation but the fees are ridiculously high and I don 't know if you will have to pay school fees out of your own pocket. Also, your decision may also depend on where you live. ASD and DAA are on the opposite ends of town to UAS for instance. Good luck with your move!

Love reading these stories... Every Christmas my Dad would do the same 'bit'. After all the presents had been opened, we'd eaten breakfast, got dressed, etc (I guess a couple of hours had passed), he would suddenly start looking at the tree in a funny way, hmmmming and ahhhhing and furrowing his brow. Then he would say...'what's that in the tree?' and it would be another present for my Mom - usually a piece of jewelry. It gave me such a thrill as a child to see my Mom so touched and suprised. It was such a romantic gesture and I would never have said my Dad was a romantic type! One year when I was about 10 I desperately wanted a 'Private Phone' and I was kind of deflated after not getting it. Then my Dad started into his act, but this time he said ' what's that behind the sofa'? It was my beloved 'Private Phone'!

Hi I would also like to give a huge recommendation to UAS (Universal American School). My son is also in KG1 there and I am so so happy with the school. I should say that although an American school, the curriculum they teach is the IB Primary Years Programme. Best wishes

Yep, sounds like jet lag. It is truely hideous with babies. Came back from Toronto this summer and it took my LO almost 3 weeks to get through it. My older one (4 years) followed the 1 day for every hour pattern and was over it in about 8/9 days, but the baby took a lot longer. I think mainly because she still woke for feeds as per usual, but then didn't feel sleepy enough to resettle. Also when breastfeeding, your supply is on a different schedule too (if that makes sense!), so it also takes time for your body to readjust to new feeding times/requirements, which may add to the frequent waking too. It will sort itself out I promise but definitely takes longer for babies!

Hi Appletiser My son went to Palms Nursery for FS1. For me it was worth the drive from DSO to Safa Park area every day. It is so lovely. His class had 8 kids in it. It isn't fancy, but has been in Dubai for 18 years. The staff are wonderful and my son thrived there. He is now having a fab time in KG1 at UAS. Palms was a wonderful first school experience for him. They have a Facebook page.

Hi Irooni They can get a multiple entry visa but it is expensive - over $600, valid for 6 months but each stay in the UAE can only be for a maximum of 14 days each time. Might be easier to fly to Jordan first, then come to the UAE after and only get a single entry visa which is valid for 30 days and a lot cheaper!

Hi Poppy82. I am so very sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. I had what the hospital called a 'tubal miscarriage' 2 years ago, but I didn't have to have the methotrexate injection in the end. I have a history of recurrent miscarriage and I highly recommend Dr Rosalie Sant at Primavera Medical in Healthcare City. I saw her after the tubal and she was wonderful. I now have a beautiful baby girl. A very good friend of mine had a very scary ectopic and lost one fallopian tube. She now has a beautiful boy and is pregnant with number two. Both times it took a year of trying. Just wanted to let you know that an ectopic doesn't mean all hope is lost. All the very best to you.

Hiya. My LO was put on Neocate for a suspected cow milk protien/soy intolerance. You can get it in Super Care pharmacy for sure. Other pharmacies I've tried have to order it in. They are in Dubai Mall, Mirdiff City Centre, not sure where else. I think all elemental formulas are only in pharmacies. FYI, the Neocate costs 200 AED per 400 gm tin.

Thanks everyone. It is all so confusing as the application says NOTE: If you are completeing this application for a child under 18, the questions are about the child. And at the end, you 'sign for the applicant if they are under 14 years of age.' Which seems to say that the child is the applicant. So the required docs would need to be for them. So it all reads like the child is the applicant and you are just completing and signing on their behalf. Thanks Takan - yes understand about the changes since 2009. I was naturalised in and grew up in Canada, so our kids are fine with citizenship. The problem arises if our kids end up having kids outside of Canada - then their children (my Grandkids - yikes!) would not be guaranteed citizenship. Anyway, will hopefully hear back from the consulate today and get it clarified!

Thanks Vagabonda! I know, it is so confusing! Yes, the birth certificate is a seperate document I have to provide and then these 2 other forms of ID are also required. Hoping the birth cerificate will be good for the second ID too. I also have to provide my citizenship card, but have to complete the form using the baby as the applicant.

Hi I am resurrecting this thread as I need some assistance from my Canadian friends :) I am about to apply for my daughter's first passport and citizenship card. Not getting very helpful replies from the consulate. I know I have to apply for the citizenship card alongside the passport application. My question relates to the documents I have to provide for the citizenship card. It says I need to provide 'Two (2) pieces of personal identification, such as a driver’s licence and a health insurance card, one of which must have your photo on it.' Now my baby girl is the applicant so I am not sure what to provide as the ID. We are dual citizens UK/Canada, so I have her UK passport to provide as one of the forms of ID, but I have no clue what to use for the second one! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ladies Me too me too! My little one has been waking 3-4 times a night since 4 months and it is exhausting. We are still in Canada for the summer and at first I thought it was jet lag, but then it went on and on! At the moment her pattern is wake at 10:30, then 2 ish, then 4ish and then can wake up anywhere from 6 to 7:30. She was a better sleeper at the newborn stage! She turned 5 months on the 12th. I wonder how long this mega growth spurt lasts???! But she is just gorgeous and doing so well, I shouldn't complain. :)

Hi SunDevil My son turned 4 during his preKG year (he did it at a nursery not at UAS). All the kids in his class turned 4 during this year, some early in the year and some are having their birthdays now. I think there will always be a range in every year of school. All the KG1 kids will be turning 5 through this year. Maybe ask if he will be a whole year younger now in the KG1 class? I wonder, if he was finding things too simple and the other kids too young if they could move him after a few months if necessary. (sorry so many 'ifs' in that sentence!)

Hi Rabiaah. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I also struggled with recurrent miscarriages. I had three, then had my son, then had another miscarriage before having my daughter. I would recommend you see Dr. Rosalie Sant. She is a specialist in recurrent miscarriages. She is based at Primavera Medical Centre. If you do a search it will come up right away. All the best to you.

Thanks dramaqn. Wow, from Grade 1 it is going to be pricey. We also are paying out of pocket. Scarily though still cheaper than a lot of the other American schools. On a happier note, picked up my son's school uniforms last week. He looks too adorable! SunDevil, the prices are pretty cheap for uniforms. Was advised to get them now, if possible, because towards the start of school you can wait up to 2 hours in line to buy them??

Hi Can anyone explain the bassinet locations on the A380 in business class? It looks like I have a bassinet seat but the seat is in a back row in front of a bulkhead area, if that makes any sense! So is the bassinet behind me? Have attempted asking Emirates but get the equivalent of a blank look over the phone! Thanks in advance

Does it have to be notarised now? I have always taken a letter from my husband but never been asked to have a notarised version.
