Badly behaved children must be taught that they will be sent to the car with a parent to wait until everyone has finished their meal. :D let the verbal fight begin ... I was so tempted to reply to this but - decided not to - since its obvously a wind up and Its mothers maybe we should go out for a nice mothers day lunch .... to a nice restaurant

Use the maps as background paper, use the ticket stubs with a picture of you/yourfamily in that place . maybe write a little story or one liner to remind you what you enjoyed most about that place. I'm not for the one picture on a page with pretty but irrelevant stuff around it - i think your scrapbook should be turning your "scrap" like the ticket stubs, maps, napkin holders etc into a little story book so after some time when you go back and look at it - you also get to remember and relive the happy moments!

The baby whisperer answers all your questions! Hands down - this book was a life saver ! It offered lots of practical advice e.g when your baby rubs his eyes or pulls at his ears - he is tired so out him to bed ! Then offers practical solutions of how to do that also Another simple to remember tool ... 2 months 2 hourly feeds, 3 months 3 hourly feeds, 4 months four hourly feeds on a EASY routine (EASY meaning when baby wakes up Eat, Activity, Sleep(when you see the sleep sign), then the Y ... you time... or min my case catch up on things time) And Routine - because its a sequence of events - that you and your kids get used to - so everybody knows whats coming My DS is 2years old and DD 4 months - and this time around its so much easier Congratulations btw ...... Routines are like gold .... you like live without them .... but when you have them ... you have a little more value !

This is such a great idea! This Will go a long way in breaking the taboo associated with PND and that hopefully will help more people get the support they need ! I have an engineering degree - not the sharpest bulb since the arrival of my kids but i'm sure the grey matter still works I could set up something in wordpress that would have all the features as a website , and help with facebook etc Maybe those who are keen could have a playdate for the kids and get the ball rolling (while we have the energy)

Got this book called deceptively delicious - the general suggestions are to swop for the low fat / sugar substitute option and then hide some veggies in it e.g add butternut squash to pancakes or broccoli (yes broccoli - and it actually tastes good ) or blueberries then for the topping maybe strawberries or proper butter not margarine

They are tourists and i guess they where in the middle of the dessert so had no choice but after the got home - we called the police This should have been reported to the police. I agree. In the event of an accident, the police should be called. edited by Muesli Bar on 01/03/2012

no they did not sign any waiver i thought that you signed a waiver when you took place in a desert safari, if this is the case (long time ago since i last went on one) - then sorry but the tour operator is not responsible.

I also did this workshop at Tiffany's home - yes you do get tea and biscuits :) But their are also 2 cats running around .... so if you have allergies ...maybe opt for the DUCTAC venue instead She is a young photographer that can tell you the basic about how to use your camera and is very insistant on not deviating from her manual. [ quote=Kelly9'>Hi Bluebird, Tiffany Schultz does 4 week workshops either at Ductac or from her home in Umm Suqiem (with biscuits and tea) nothing but good things to say. http://archive.tiffanyschultz.com/page1

Hi Bluebird Just make sure the person running the course is a seasoned photographer who has studied the subject at tertiary level and not just "passionate" about it .... your paying for the course so it would be fair to get someone who truly know the subject . Who is freindly and passionate about photography Someone who is familiar with your make of camera - or you might get a little behind in the class ... cos the lecturer will go with what he/she know and come back later to find those settings on your camera Make a list of things you want to know and ask your lecturer before hand. If you buy a DSLR - most manufacturers - sell the camera with a crash course on how to use it - so just check In SA Nikon offers Nikon purchasers a course for free ... not sure about here though

hey tany80 my DS used to do everything by the book, (The baby whisperer) except sleep through the night but i was afraid or rather couldnt bring myself to let him cio, so i saw a midwife named cecile ..... she helped us alot ........alot of what she said was similar to the routines suggested in the baby whisperer .....but it just helped to be able to call someone when he deviated from the book! now he sleeps through the night -7pm - 6am I would prefer 8pm to 7am but after waking every 2 hours till he was 7 months old, i'll take this! i highly recommend getting this book - it offers practical advice ..... we dont follow the routine to the t more like 85% of the time/suggestions .... as a first time mum it was excellent in helping me to read my sons cues better

Its pretty easy I went last year july/Aug with DS 17 months and DH on the way we took our stroller because DS still naps in the middle of the day Get the tube and bus map - and try to plan your trip by making use of the stations with wheelchair access that said in central london especially alot of the tube stations are quite close to each other so jumping of the the station next to the one you want for wheelchair acess wont be a far walk ...if you get what i mean another option would be get an easy to fold stroller - so you could just fold and carry it when you get to places without lifts / whenever you travel Also Buses are great - you get to view the country and more often than not people will offer you a seat next to the place to "park" your pram There are parks galore and lots of free things for kids e.g the princess diane memorial gardens - DS loved it ! Hope you have an awesome holiday

So i'm not the only one ! DS 23 months, DD 2.5 months DS also sleeps in the middle of the day but DS .... ?!!? .... she has lungs and knows how to use it when she is not happy! Might be a girl thing! Dont have advice ..just a sore back and the hope that i can put her on a routine once she hits the 4 month mark I followed the babywhisperer for DS and going to try for DD Going to follow this post and hope we both find some advice to keep sane! I need some light at the end of the tunnel :D. DS is 19 months and DD is 11 weeks. DS sleeps once a day, usually around 11.30ish, and usually for almost two hours but occasionally three if he's tired. DD sleeps amazingly at night, going in her crib awake at 7ish and going off to sleep no problems until usually around 4am. She feeds and goes straight back to sleep until about 7ish (some nights she's up earlier and feeds more). Daytimes for DD are a whole different kettle of fish, though. I seem to keep missing her tired signs so she's exhausted by the time I try to put her down and she simply won't settle unless I pick her up and rock her. Unless I get her sleep exactly right, she's the most miserable baby on the planet! She screams in the pram, when I put her in the car seat, screams in the car, if I'm lucky she'll nod off and if not she'll scream the whole way there, if I've been lucky and she's nodded off as soon as the car stops she screams... you get the picture. I guess what I'm asking is how long will it take me to learn to balance the two of them and their needs?! I'm so busy running around after very active DS and trying to give him what he needs, I can't spot when DD needs to go to bed (and of course I can't always do it there and then if DS needs something urgent) and it all just seems such an impossible juggling act! Fire away... :D

I used to alternate between the diaper bag city hospital gives you and big handbags that would let me stuff everything i needed from emergency stuff to diapers to toys to shopping... eveyrhitng really... but then my husband bought me a Juicy Couture baby bag - I'm in love ! It has pockets galore and they are big - so the many outside pockets in the front and back can house my keys , phone, wallet, wet wipes and diapers (i use the one with the zip for diapers and wetwipes. the sides for water and juice bottles the inside pockets for clothes and toys( i have a 2 month old and 23 month old ) so toys very important to keep one occupied while the other requires attention and i still have the center of the actual bag free for a jersey or whatever I went into the one in moe a week ago and they are having a sale - with diaper bags from 520 aed with most expensive non sale being 1300 ( the exact one being 1100aed in bloomingdales dubai mall when u actually go to the store ) Heres a link to this and some other designer bags http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/handbags/handbags/baby-bags?id=22257

DubaiCat - I delivered my DD there on Tuesday ! - and i actually logged on to note the changes i experienced between this delivery and my DS in 2010. BTW - congratulations ! My experience was a bit diff - delivered via C-section on advice of my Dr - Dr Azizunisa - we had the C-section on tuesday at 9:35am - while doing the C they found endometreosis - which she treated somehow - so i didnt have any skin to skin till around 11am. I only saw my Dr post-op at night on wed ... some 30 or so hours later - haven't seen here since - now at home - discharged - with no instructions on how to take care of the c-section wound . i called the hospital and they said - if your dr didnt say anything then just keep it clean and dry .... (the dr who delivered my DS - Dr ebrahim saw us - i think twice a day until we were discharged - and when leaving i was given ointment and dressings to change and instruction on how to do it) Also my DS was given pediavit to take daily - but nothing for DD 90% of the nurses was pro breastfeeding - except one - who at 3 am the night after delivering DD told me i should give her formula because she is not latching on my right breast (only my left one) - she even did a bloodglucose screen which ended proving that DD was just fine The LC consultant Sameera - saw us the next day and told us DD is fine and in the first 24 hours babies tend to be sleepy - She came back the next day and made sure that we had a good supply and latch and showed me an alternative to the "football" hold that just never worked both now with DD or with DS I still follow her advice - it was really good! at all costs avoid a nurse called christine - she would put the lights on even at 1am and move the baby bassinet closer to the door (if anyone opend the door the bassinet would be in the way) and when i asked her to please stop moving things around and put it back - she would grunt - i had the same reaction when i asked her to help me change my dressings

I have read about a huge list of mandatory vaccinations here, justified by the fact that this actually is a third world country "en travesti". What I do not understand is if it is possible for expat parents to responsibly choose to skip or postpone some or all of them, without incurring in legal problems or limiting future access to school. I am not asking for opinions about the opportunity of vaccinations, just about the legal aspects, considering also that hopefully by the time the baby will reach school age we might be elsewhere. Thanks. Not sure about the law - but i havent given DS all his vaccines and delayed some e.g the MMR given at 20 months when his immune system stronger instead of 12 months with no issues I also know if some mums who have decided not to give some vaccines at all with no issues none of the nurseries we looked at asked about the vaccines

My DS is now 21 months - I delivered at CITY - but started off at MEDCARE - here is my expierience I was seing Dr Shiva at Medcare - appointments always ran late and felt like a production line where you where shipped in and out as quickly as possible But the turning point for me came at at 36 weeks - I reacted badly to something i ate and couldnt keep anything down, went to emergency - where they put the baby monitor on me and insisted i lie on my BACK - for almost an hour ! even non-pregnant ppl know this can get very uncomfortable very quickly. My Dr did bother to check on me - a quick less than a minute check the much later the next day ! and despite asking for a private room ( our medical aid - DAMAN - covered even the VIP suite at CITY) I was given one of those partioned between 4 ppl room (not even a maternity room), where the lady next to me work at various parts of the night screaming and the one share bathroom was messed - with all sorts i care not to mention so a few days later - after all my tears for not going to south africa to deliver - my hubby and I drove to CITY - to check it out - after hearing its a south african hospital - And what a diff that was! the head matron - martie - welcomed us into her office in the maternity ward - reassured us that she would take are of me - then showed us around the hospital - then unpon returning to her office got us an appoitment with one if the hospitals doctors and got the insurance people to come up and explain what our medical aid would cover - so we need not worry abotu it on the day - turns out it covered everything including VIP wards. the only time we had to concern ourselves with the bill was on check out /discharge the actual birth - didnt go smoothly - labour started on a fri - but only ended on sun They are not pro C section so really tried everything to get a natural birth going even though DS was already a week overdue ....starting with a birthing ball and lots of walking to the next day breaking the waters to an induction 2 days later -but after all that DS & I went into distress when i asked for an epidural so it ended in an emergency C section ...... but thru the whole expierience i had faith that i was getting the best care possible The aftercare was really good - from the lactation consultant that didnt give up until breastfeeding was firmly established to the additional stockings, nipple sheilds and cream given to us to take home to the mothersupport group that ran monthly also the one thing i couldnt stand is sharing a a room - while some hospitals will make you share if they are full City has been know to upgrade ppl to the VIP when they are full Hence number 2 due in 5 weeks will also be at city

HI selma Don't stress too much, your budget is not so bad ! btw I have a 20 month old and expecting another one in a month or so. We managed to find a 3 bed with a teeeny tiny maids room (more like a store room) for 90k (excluding DEWA)in the marina, just behind JBR. unlike the JBR apts the bedrooms are smaller but with little ones i think the living area needs to be big with big passages instead of the rooms It has a baby pool & gym for post pregnancy weightloss :).... i think almost all the buidling here have them and some even have playareas It is also walking distance to a few different public play areas and of course the beach and THE WALK ..which becomes a buzz of activities as the weather cools down .... so enough to keep you and your little ones entertained There are also a few shops (that also deliver ...perfect when you got your hands full with too little babies, havent yet had a chance to shower but missing one ingredient for supper ! ...... I have freinds in motorcity and discovery gardens and both are very child freindly The motor city apts are HUGE! The balconies are .... Even Bigger ..... you could get lost i it! And again you have a pool, garden n lots of shops to walk to when ya just need to get out Discovery gardens - may not seem great because they have somehow got the reputation of being cheaper - but the apartments and living areas are really good ! And all of them include AC and maintenance A 2 bed with maids room and laundry and store room is very very reasonable ,,,, and you get playareas and you dont have to drive far to get to most places ... i also think alot of the places i DG deliver as well so dont rule it out theres no construction going on and theres alot of green spaces ... anyway good luck and chillax - you will def find something great And being on a reduced budget - thats nothing major it just means you will now become more savvy and take greater advantage of the many deals and sometimes free events that are always popping up all over Dubai!

Not relating to pregancy but I made my DH go there for an all body health check and although he came out with slightly high choloesterol and fungus on his toes he's been going for treatment and follow-up consultations and it is costing a fortune! I've told him enough is enough as body checks aren't covered on our health insurance but we both got the distinct feeling it was a total money spinner. They were good when they opened as we went on a friend's recommendation. Felt that standards had certainly slipped. My DH - did his at Dubai Mall (and they are covered by our medical aid), he normally avoids dr's like the plague but he seems to be very happy with this place - (the fact that they are surronded by electronic stores might be a contributing factor :) So maybe just check with your medical aid - who is covered - and rather go to them Maintaing your body I think is as important as anything else

That is not good that scares me now just started at city hospital for first pregnancy I am 18 weeks. That's really worrying now. What do you do here I just don't know what hospital to trust and we don't have insurance either. Dont be scared just manage your risks e.g book all your appointments until you are 40 weeks! you will also need special scans at 12 week and 20 weeks - pre-empt them and try to make your bookings now otherwise The staff in the maternity ward are great (i delivered in 2010), very very caring and supportive To be honest it doesnt matter who's your dr - cos these ladies are the ones that are with you 90% of the time and really make you comfy - and the rooms and general setup are great hopefully city gets better and by the time you deliver they get more staff to handle the higher patient load

Why not go to Dubai London CLinic for all your early pregnancy stuff, scans etc and then move to city for delivery. Also fill in complaints and speak with management at City about your concerns. Already approaching 8 months! I have already logged 2 formal complaints and 2 thank you's or recommendations Maybe the cancelled each other out ...lol I will be sending in another one later today figured they only way they gonna change / maintain those initial high standard is if they knew how ppl felt or that stds of service where slipping but not sure anymore cos all the staff i spoke also complain of being too busy .... but that was months ago ... and nothing has changed ... well not for the better maybe not enough ppl take the time to actually write to the actual hospital The staff at city - are active on EW - hopefully this post might help ! I really like City and really dont want to change to another hospital .... so crossing all fingers and toes after i write to them .....

I have met a couple of nannies in Discovery Gardens and I'm just wondering where they sleep/what their accommodations are? Do any of the apartments have a maid's room? We need to get a nanny in the new year (third child on the way) and are currently living in a large 2 BR apartment and wondering if it's possible to upgrade to a place with maid's room. Our lease isn't up until next June so we are stuck here for the time being. We would really like a live in maid/nanny but I guess live out is an option. Does anyone know what you pay for a live out maid? We have a large storage room but no attached bathroom - is this what people use for a maid's room? Hi A friend of ours lives in DG - they have a 2 bed with store room, laundry room and maids room which has its own bathroom. But while the rest of the apartment is very comfortable the maids room is a bit small - might be able to squeeze in a single bed , and it has no window ....

Hey ladies - I'm the maybe ..not quite planned ..... number 3 ....... my parents had a girl, boy then 7 years later ... me :). So I say go for it! I got spoiled by both parents and older siblings ... and always felt special one that got spoiled by everyone ... guess they did the tough parenting with the older ones and was chilled or maybe just tired by the time i came along when my brother and sister left home - i was still there ... as my mum said keeping her young. and on a not so great note ..... after one of my siblings passed away .... there are still 2 of us left .... i think it would have been harder to lose one of your best friends & become an only child .... so like on of the earlier posters said .... maybe just .... dont stress .... and left GOD decide

Hi there.. can you please give me some advise on good bakeries or where i can get a good "yummy" bday cake for my hubby. Thanks! :)

The LC that helped us at City was Doretta but i think she is gone back to SA. I'm a bit concerned that the stds or support at city seems to be dropping as they get busier . Anyways You can get the sheilds at most baby shops - might be worth getting a steriliser while you at it - cos you need to sterilize them before each use. Also nipple cream - cos if you dont place them properly (easy to do when you ahve a hungry baby) they can get a bit sore! And slowly as the LO grows and his tongue developes you can take them away and he will latch on eventually .... Oh I think they might still ahve the monthly mothers support meetings at city - every month - maybe try attending these or just called the maternity ward ask for the LC contact no and make an appointment - thier services are free is you deliver at city - well thats what i ws told And a predicatable routine - not a hard and rigid one - but one that you follow 90% of the time - thats the best thing you can do to keep sane and help you LO know what to expect and also easier for you to decify their needs It took us a long time to accept this simple truth but since we have - our lives are just so much better we follow it 90% of the time - cos lets be honest life doesnt allow for rigid routines - and we like living sponatneously every now and then - Goodluck - hang in there - sleep through the night is something you will get to enjoy again! Thanks meals. Hi SA Babe - that's super helpful, thank you. As for LC - I was also at City Hospital but she didn't advise me to get a nipple shield : ( I'll look into it - thanks again.

Hi No its not wishful thinking. Most of the replies seem to be spot on wrt to day and night confusion And at 2 weeks CIO is not an option! I used a book called - the babywhisperer answers all your questions The author adressed pretty much every question i had wrt feeding and sleeping - and by following the EASY (Eat, Activity, Sleep, Your Time) routine (NOTE NOT SHEDULE) but a a routine ...so general order of doing things during the day - then he slept better at night Just note - every now and then he did have growth spurts usually lasting a day or two and then at 7 months when he was unto solids and walking - we had to re-adress sleep training - so not wishful thinking to expect them to settle into bed and stay in bed for 10-12 hours ....well for 98% of the time (I also visited a midwife called cecile de scally ) who helped us tailor a sleep solution and routine for us when he was 7 months. one more thing My DS was also had a tongue tie - The lactation consultant at City hospital helped us around this with nipple sheilds from medela - def alot easier than pumping! Thier services is free - so maybe give them a call / email and find out if they can help you

So glad to hear your boy is doing well! Hope he gets completely healed soon! Big hug to you for being such a brave mum About 2 months ago my son got a fever - nothing serious but whilst driving to the hospital, it was hard to hold the tears in ..... it can be so distressing when your LO is not doing well and nothing you can do but wait .... and pray Big hugs to you and you baby

Hey Mover and a sheikha ...love your username are you from the buckle up campaign - if yes ...it would be great to host the organisation at one of our meetings for the mums with little ones I am a believer in car seats - and for now just try to lead by example ... Hey SA_Newbie Welcome to the UAE We have a very active South African Womens Association - monthly coffee mornings, playdates and ladies Night You can find them on facebook you can also join the mailing list by sending a membership request to [email protected] At the moment - most of these events are in Dubai -where we have met some lovely ladies from Abu dhabi! Hopefully we can get some volunteers in Abu dhabi to host coffee morning in AD but until then - your welcome to attend our events in Dubai! He SA_Babe. On one of your meetings could you talk about car safety and kids? It's such a danger here. I was just speaking with a Saffer, who then popped in her car and drove off with her 6 year old on her granny's knee. Mum strapped herself in, of course.

SA really is a world in one country I love cape town - table mountain hiking, awesome drive around the mountain on chapmans peak, the most amazing freah seafood in hout bay, wine tasting in spier wine estate, or you could make a day of trolling the wine farms in stellenborch, swimming with the dolphins in boulders beach( but you need to get there early it fills up quicky - then beach access is closed) - but also remember most of cape town has the cold atlantic ocean so a bit on the COLD side. I love Cape town because it is probably the safest part of SA where all year round the province seems to be on holiday! .... basically the pace of life is chilled.... Its also the place we go to for holidays but I'm sure loats of ppl will tell you about cape town so I'll try to tell you quickly about the other places JHB - most south african's go there to work so very fast paced but becomes a sleepy town in Dec cos almost everybody heads to the coast ..... places that are worth going to in and around JHB is .... sun city & the valley of the lost city (the original version of Atlantis ... in my version anyway ...same developer ), The Lion Park, The Emarald casino on the vaal. JHB was our home for 5 years and we loved it - but if you have limited time in SA I would recommend a miss and head straight to the coast. There are a few small private reserves you pass whilee driving from JHB to DBN that i would recommend cos they really have the personal touch - and would give you more of a local experience - penwarn ( out really in the middle of the mountains - we had a cabin that overlooked a little lake with lots of animals bird etc was lovely) ........Wynford farm (www.wynford.co.za)- run by a lovely family - thier rates include all meals and the traditional 3pm tea with lovely south afican home made goodies. And the last major city/province in SA - Durban - My hometown :) Usually the place where all the locals or rather those working in JHB go to for Dec holidays Durban has great beaches where you can swim (warm indian ocean), I'd recommend Breakers hotel, in umhangla - they have loads of kids activities and located next to a nature reserve where you can do a bit of hiking before reaching a private beach - that is popular with sunbathers that want a bit of peace and quite. As a kid we used to go to Mitchell park - has an amazing Zoo (acess to the park is free), and Japanese gardens & botanical gardens - beautiful gardens which the best picnic spots . A nice water park in durban is Ushaka St Lucia wetlands is not too far away - with all sort of amazing wildlife. And in between is Itala game reserve where you can do some game drives. Oh and an absolute absolute must do - is try out mangwanani day spa - a full day including meals and unlimited beverages - and 7 spa treatments --- they have branches all over SA and thier rates approx 800AED PER COUPLE! And a really good really inexpensive resturant serving amazing seafood is OCEAN BASKET Below is a video showing bits of SA.... the background music is by an artist mandoza .... listening to this music and watching this video.... thinking about mangwanani & ocean basket .... I think i am also gonna go home this dec! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMP28f1sBG0
