.... i think that private companies will just get the Sunday off. Yep that is what I was told and am expecting B*gger, I remember years back when we'd call it 'Big Eid' and plan a group getaway, we'd get at least 2 days off tagged onto a weekend

I think the maid will take a lot of habits from you of course and the way you want things done but as far as courses go I would recommend HealthBay for a First Aid course - they cover most emergency situations such as choking and CPR as well as general problems that occur in the house and how to deal with them ie. wounds, burns, blood control etc... Good luck

Has anyone tried Hungry Tiger in Al Barsha? I've read some really good reports about it, but would love to hear from someone who's actually tried it. Yes and the first few times it was GREAT! Unfortunately it's since been a bit hit and miss since, although we do keep going back as when it's good it's really good and just like a british curry back home, when it's bad the chicken can be dry and the delivery time can be an hour as oppose to the 40 mins as promised. It is however miles better then Brick Lane...

Ella's red pepper hummus is amazing isn't it?!! Blender gets used all the time! - lemon and coriander hummus - coleslaw - thai curry pastes - Blend up salmon onion, coriander and an egg to make fish cakes - bread crumbs and freeze every time the loaf goes stale. Use them for Chicken kievs, fish fingers etc.. Have fun experimenting!

There was a myth a couple of years ago about bottled water left in cars/sun was related to cancer especially in women, but nothing was ever proven so it was just one of those myths - like others have said don't stress about it, all of my group of friends have had multiple kids on the local stuff!

I love this stuff, nothing you can make yourself is quite as nice! When I lived in the marina I always used to get it from Choithrams but they didn't always have that flavour, when they did I would get 2 or 3 packs! True it has a unique flavour but that's mainly due to the flavour enhancers in it. I used to eat it as a kid but always make my own now I'm a bit more wiser to the world of packet/powdered foods If you are hankering for it Choithrams on Al Wasl always have loads in stock

What about her privacy? What about the fact that she needs a job and any job is better than no job and she wouldn't have any privacy if she went back to her home country anyways? And no one worried about my privacy when I was in the Army and bunked up with 49 other people. No one complained that my human rights were being violated ... Absolutely right I agree no boys says how some people treat them they even beat them often who so ever is talking abt the human rights don't they know last month I was reading in gulf news a maid was so badly burned her employer threw hot water she was admitted to hospital just because she didn't served her coffee don't really remember the whole story but here I'm giving her enough money to eat to sleep now if I am compromising with money can't they compromise on privacy after all they need to earn I think if u treat them on priority there demands are never going to finish they run away from there local sponser every other maid runs I bet OP - It is ILLEGAL

Thank you very much! I still have time (5 months to go) I just like to plan ahead just in case since we never know if the baby comes earlier, my sister had a premie and one of my friends had it at 7 months. I have recently gotten that book. I'm on it I just have to catch up. I will certainly look into the classes. Did you do any yoga or any particular workout that might help ? Hi and Big congratulations on what is going to be an amazing time for you! Firstly, you're not the first expecting mum to be nervous, it's a life changer but in such a good way! I would definitely get Heidi Murkoff's book, What To Expect when you're expecting' It will answer all of your questions for you. Google it as there is also a website and is broken down month by month in terms of your pregnancy and the first few years - a very helpful website. I went to Infinity Clinic for pre natal classes where they go through what you should pack, how to hold your baby, beast feeding, changing nappies etc... it's very hands on (using dolls) and also prepares you for the big day in terms of calming your anxieties. You do the class with other couples which is also re-assuring as they share your fears and questions Regarding pediatrician, I can highly recommend Dr Keith Nicholl on Al Wasl - a fantastic, warm doctor Cribs - Mamas and Papas are very good, expensive but you can buy the cot which has 4 stages and will eventually turn into a bed so you'll get 5 years use our of it! Mothercare also has a good range of all the bits you are looking for, wait until the sales to get bargains, if you have time Hope this helps a little - don't worry, I would do one thing at a time so it doesn't seem so overwhelming. Write a list of all you need and just tick them off as you go so you can see how much progress you are making - Good luck and enjoy the prep stuff rather then dreading it! No problem! I did Pilates at Zen Yoga in Media City once or twice a week. At the time I wasn't sure what the results of the classes would be but apparently it strengthens your core and I generally felt much better for doing it - also lost all baby weight, 20kgs (!!!) within 2 months so I put it down the regular pilates. I took the birthing ball into labour which really helped with the contractions :-)

We went to Baga Beach and absolutely loved it there. The food and drink is cheap, people are lovely and friendly. Hire out a moped and drive around, you'll stumble across tea plantations, little towns with shops, churches, pubs etc...there are bars and restaurants lining the beaches and the food is fresh as it can be and unbelievably cheap.

I'm with Skyfall - stock up on olives, nuts and general anti pasti - I'd then make everything an assembly job the morning/night before but still look amazing. Here are the platters I normally do Seafood - smoked salmon and prawns laid on pre sliced rye/brown bread around a bowl of cocktail sauce. Meat - Cold cuts of turkey, chicken and smoked sausages with different mustards on the side Crudettes of cucumbers and carrots served with a cream cheese, sour cream and chive dip Nacho Chips with dips of Guacamole (simply blend ripe avocados, lime juice, coriander, s and p and a chilli until coarse - can prepare the day before in airtight container but put LOADS of Lime juice on top before you put in fridge). Salsa - buy it, Spinneys does a lovely hot one Cheese board with some crackers and grapes So all you're really making are the quick dips - just stick a bread basket with cheese straws, baguette etc on the middle of the table Good luck!

ewwww - you try on shoes for 20 minutes !!! I think that was the posters point, that due to her sensitive skin she has to try them on for that long to make sure they are suitable for her. Smartee, I would go with backless wedges, there are loads around at the moment, as GE said Nine West and also Shoe Mart have a good selection Pharmacies sell gel plasters which are good for blister-prone areas

Yay thanks for the ideas! With breaded chicken breast and fish fingers - do you then fry or bake? with fish fingers and chicken escalopes I fry in a bit of oil as they cook quickly. Chicken kievs or just plain chicken breasts I start to fry until slightly coloured and then bake.

Got some yesterday from spinneys. Not sure what to use it for though other than paella! I use it quite alot - - add to to breadcrumbs along with parmesan to coat chicken breasts or when making fish fingers - Add at the beginning of making a tomato based sauce or soup - mix with a bit of butter, salt and pepper and spread over a chicken ready to roast for the oven Adds great flavour and colour :-)

You're right Yorky, it will still be a Rhodes restaurant - I read an interview with him where he stated that Mezzanine had become too much of an 'occasional' restaurant (which it definitely was for us!) and he is going for a more relaxed setting. It was due to open in the new year but obviously that hasn't happened yet!

Sorry to jump on this thread ut was hoping for some advice. My 3 year old daughter has had a 'phlegmy' chest on and off for about 4 months now and I want to take her to a specialist so what kind of specialist should I be taking her to and can you recommend anyone?. Most of the time there is no temperature but now and then she does seem to have a slight temperature of no more that 38 degrees. About two weeks ago she had a higher temperature and the dr said it was a sinus infection and gave anti biotics. Before that he thought it was wheezing and gave the inhaler combination mentioned in this thread but we can't seem to clear her chest. TIA Hi Natashab, I haven't been to see him but Dr Loubser at Infinity clinic has come highly recommended for respiratory issues with children. He specialises in asthma and allergies so maybe take your daughter to see him? Hope she gets better soon

Or can you recommend another restaurant for me and the hubby to celebrate my birthday? We've done The Ivy, Pierchic, Atmosphere, The Ivy, so somewhere new would be great - TIA!

Hi Gingercat - thanks for all the info and I'm so glad your little one is happily running around again! So there is light at the end of the tunnel. We went to have a check up and the doc prescribed exactly what you suggested - the ventolin and Flixotide through inhaler without me mentioning them! We've seen an improvement so hopefully we'll be in the clear after 7 days on them. Also, noted on what to do if there are any reoccurrences in the future - good to know that we should be prepared for that - thanks again XX

Yes I second SalsB's advice - they have been here for years, but have your license to hand. A few years back one of their delivery drivers got stopped by the police (not sure whether it was random or not), was asked where he was delivering to and the customers didn't have a license - they ended up getting prosecuted.

Thanks ladies, we see Dr Keith Nicholl who has advised we finish the course of antibiotics, if there's no improvement I think I have to go and see a specialist. LO had coughing fits last night but no vomit so I can only take that as a good sign. Here's hoping... sometimes you feel like you're the only one going through it so it really helps that there are others out there battling with it - thanks again! Stick with your DR, he is a good one! You don't need a specialist unless your Dr (who is great) tells you so. All will be fine, these things can take time to clear up and are horrible to witness. Hi LC, so it seems that the poor thing does have asthma (he has been on corticosteroids to treat asthma and it worked with immediate effect). Obviously he is still too young to comprehensively diagnose but I think both myself, hubby and the doc know it - Now to control and manage it is going to be the challenge!

Any sort of crisps only like salt n vinegar or prawn cocktail and ahve to be walkers, hula hoops or scampi flavour fries. Can you still get Prawn Cocktail crisps? They're a blast from the past :) Oh yes, quite often in Park n Rob and W/Rose. PnR sometimes have Smoky B*con in the oink section too :-) Just seen them in the tecom branch as well - next to the p**k scratchings!! May have to go via Park n Rob tonight and see if they have the Smoky variety They did at the JLT one at the weekend. I had to partake, would have been rude not to............
