KUL = KLIA http://www.klia.com.my/ You will find two hotels listed on the site. DH was put up in one of the hotels and I recall him complaining bitterly about the place and referring to it as dingy. It is perhaps worth your while taking a look at the more expensive 5 star one. I could be wrong, but I don't think KUL automatically means KLIA :) For instance, I will be flying into KUL (KLIA) from here, but transiting via LCCT to fly out to Borneo so I will be looking at a hotel close to LCCT. Just checked my ticket print out and departure was KUL, but on the bottom, it also indicated LCCT. Not that it really matters where you stay as these two terminals are close to each other, but just be sure you have got the right terminal for your next flight segment :)

LOL@free Ferrari They have 4 thrilling roller coasters of which 2 were not working when we were there last month. It's good to call the morning of to see what is not available. It's more of a family theme park, but not sure if there is much your 2 y/o can do though. DH and I are big fans of roller coasters too, but we thought it was a bit boring after a couple hours because there weren't that many rides for adults. If you go, go early in the morning right as they open or late at night (an hour or two before they close) and there will be no queues. For young kids, there are about 10-11 different rides/interactive games. Take a look at their website to get an idea of what is appropriate and available for your child to play. Have fun!

You don't need to pay for Maharba services. BA have a special assistance department and yuo need to call them to organise a wheelchair at Heathrow at check in. She will be looked after from the check in desk all the way through until you take delivery of her in Dubai airport. The guys will also wheel her out to your car (I always pay them a nice tip). It's a superb service and stays with your booking. On the return I just make sure a few days before travel that it on the booking and when you arrive at check in at Dubai Airport you make sure they know you need a wheelchair and within a few minutes a very nice man will appear and stay with your mum until she boards and then the wheelchair brigade will be waiting for her at her destination airport too. Yup! Exactly as Claire had stated. I had availed of the wheelchair service before. Be sure you inform BA during the time of booking or at least 24 hour prior (the earlier the better) to departure to let them know you will need this service both at departure and arrival destinations and confirm/remind them again at time of check in. A staff with wheelchair at your destination will be waiting right outside the aircraft door. There will be a crew by the luggage carousel to help with your luggage for a small fee + tips.

May be best to run into the branch office and ask someone face to face? The last time I had to get this done for my brother, I was told that the car owner must be present with his driver's licence or pp during the transfer of ownership. I did not ask about letter of authority, so can't help you there.

That said i am always thankful that the insects i am terrified of dont fly; spiders and lizards . Hehe...unless you encounter jumping spiders or silly lizards that couldn't hold their footing! When I was young and sitting on a chair watching TV one night, out of the blue, a lizard (we are talking the length of about 7 inches) from the ceiling lost it's footing and plummeted down toward the unsuspecting me. I canon-balled myself out of the chair so fast and screaming like a banshee while my Dad looked on confused and was probably thinking to himself "I think we need to admit her" :D

I live in the consulate area of Bur Dubai near the Creek. It is quiet-no construction noise and very little passing traffic at night. I don't need or have a car-I can walk to the metro and bus stops as well as shopping centres such as Burjuman and Karama-even Deira City Centre on a cool night! The Creek is in walking distance as are the traditional markets. I can walk down and catch the evening breezes on an abra for a dirham. Plenty of greenery and parks along the creek so you can sit and watch impromptu cricket matches and see the dhows passing by. It is close to the old Dubai areas like the Bastikiya and Meena Bazaar where you can bargain and buy fresh baked bread and other treats straight for a street oven. You actually feel like you are living in a different country. **LIKE!** :)

Might be a really daft question but I have booked separate flights to Bali in July...............one trip to Singapore with Emirates then another airline to Bali. We are going to stay in Singapore airport for a few hours. How do I go about making sure my luggage stays in the airport? Do I just tell Emirates on check-in or do I need to do something before hand? For a peace of mind, it may be best to call the office first to see if they will be able to check the luggage through for you, so that you won't get any surprises. Here is the excerpt I got from Emirates website. "Depending on how their tickets were purchased and systems available at the airport, passengers travelling on Emirates and connecting to another airline may or may not have their baggage checked through for their flights. Please check with your local Emirates office." If you are staying at the Crowne Plaza at Changi airport, it is IMO one of the best airport hotels ever :) Since you are not going out into the city, worst case scenario is you will just have to retrieve your checked luggage to the hotel which is really easy. Have a great time in Bali, it is a beautiful island with interesting culture and friendly locals :)

Totally agree with mishmash! Unfortunately most companies here just don't understand the point of this type of advertisement/promotion. I remember few years back we used an entertainer voucher at a Chinese restaurant in Deira. The food was good, nice reasonable portion and attentive service. We went back a second time weeks later and upon being seated, the waitress immediately asked if we were using voucher. I guess by then they had more people coming in with vouchers or she had a good memory. We ordered the same dishes, and they came out really tiny portions and the service was horrible. We were still hungry at the end, needless to say, we haven't been back since.

Have not been to the one at DCC, but been to DFC and DM. Not sure when the sales started, but was there last Saturday and already on sale. I was checking out the one at DM, and saw the same shoe that I was interested in a couple months back when it was on sale, but the "sales" price this time being even more than last time and the original price was also marked higher! What a joke!

Daily disposable contacts are made from a different (cheaper) material so they are not meant for multiple handling, may easily attract protein deposits and not meant to be stored in the cleaning solution for any length of time once you break them out of their original packaging. I have noticed some "warpage" in lenses if kept for the next day use which translates to discomfort to the wearer. So like all the other suggested, it's best to keep the dailies to their 1 day use only to avoid possible discomfort and worse, infections. :)

What are the best companies to go with or is there only 1 here? How much per year does it cost? Generally the car insurance is about 5% of the value of the car insured. There are a lot of insurance companies and banks offering this and you need to call and shop around for the best deal. I personally have dealt with AXA and they are pretty decent :) HTH

ADCB active saver account is offering 3% p.a. if balance is 100,000 or more, it's been slowly decreased since it was first offered so need to keep an eye on that. The nice thing about this type of account is it's an automatic monthly roll-over, as long as you don't make any withdrawals within that month, you will get your interest at the end of the month. There is no penalties (unlike FD/TD) if you decide to make a withdrawal. Mashreq easy saver is offering 3.25 % p.a. currently with the same scheme as ADCB. HTH :)

I found it on google. If you are leaving from the MOE, it will be about 100km or so. At the branch of Route 10 & 11, keep on Route 11 (route 10 will bring you into AD city center). You should pass AD Int'l Airport on your right, keep going for about 10km or so, the hospital should be on your right. If you are at the junction to get to Route 22, you have gone too far. May be best to give the place you visit a call to confirm the location. Good luck! ETA because I forgot to mention not horrible traffic during Sat AM. edited by Saharagypsyrose on 27/05/2011

The specific brand of AR I have been wearing do not cause me to see any visual disturbances of any sorts. What you just described reminded me of eons ago when I had the old AR with polycarbonate lenses (not high index) and I think I experienced some rainbow effects on the edge of the lens (on the surface of lens closest to eye) which I didn't like at all. I believe the rainbow effect is caused by the polycarbonate lens material and not the AR per se.

Thanks a lot for the info Saharagypsyrose. My DH's glasses are with AR & he's been experiencing frequent eye infections ever since he started to wear it. We didn't know even there're type of AR in the market; his prob. may be due to AR coating I doubt. Hmm...sounds like coincidences. AR do not cause or increase the probability of eye infections :) They are completely unrelated. There could be other issues involved such as he may be working longer hours or on the computer more often and experiencing eyestrains and then unknowingly rub his eyes with his "contaminated" fingers? My DH tends to complain about his eyes feeling "funny" more often since moving to Dubai and I have noticed that he tends to run his hand over his face, then press his fingers to his eyes when he gets tired. So it's likely a behavioral or environmental issue than the AR itself. :)

There are many different "type" and brand of AR in the market and they are not created equal. The traditional and cheapest option which is just the coating on the outside of lens tends to attract dust and easily smudges with fingerprints. These you have to be very careful wiping/cleaning them as the coating can be easily damaged. I am not as updated as I should be with the newest technology out there, but I personally prefer Crizal Alize by Essilor and have been using them for the past 7 years or so. They are different in the sense that the coating is "built in" which won't scratch/come off easily among other pluses. I don't know if they carry them here, the last I asked, the sales people just looked at me funny. I would never get a pair of glasses without the AR. There are many benefits but notably the anti glare help especially with computer use or driving at night and also when you are face to face with someone, they can have eye contact with you and not looking at the reflection behind them. Yes, you can have both AR & photochromic/transition features on the same lens. I have been wearing this combo for a lot longer than I care to mention :D. You will find a whole slew of AR benefits with PC if you google it :) Once you start getting used to the AR, you won't ever go back to plain old lens :) Enjoy!

we have 100s of little baby mosquitoes just waiting to turn into blood sucking adults. i open my back door and it's like a swarm of bees! any traps / zappers / poison / plants to get rid of them? tia Hmmm....are you sure they are mosquitoes? They spend 3/4 of their lives in aquatic environment and by the time they are ready to leave it, they are also ready to do their nasty deed. And they usually don't travel like "swarm of bees" :D (I presume you see a swarm of black things hover in mid air when you open your door). What you see may be other insects that look like mosquitoes or they could be hoverflies. If they are indeed mozzies, they like stagnant pools of water, so check your herb pot sauces for any collective pools of water as they are easily seen as they wiggle a lot. Get rid of the water and you will get rid of the mozzies :) Good luck!

I have a similar problem with my left thumb and I don't have any of the possible issues mentioned below. I think it's been almost a year since it started. I have no idea how it started, and I could not use it when it first happened. I think I must have sprained it as everytime I "reinjure" it by accidentally bending it wrongly or knocking it on something, the pain can be from nagging to excruciating. I just tried to immobilize it as much as possible until the pain subsides. I hope yours feel better soon.

Hoping to entice as many people as possible to come. Hehe....you may be right. Saharagypsyrose... thanks...didn't know, but frankly suspected that something like that exists... any idea how you get the invitation, i.e. how many miles/flights one roughly needs ? What are the additional benefits ? It is nowhere metioned as far as I can tell....:-( Nobody really knows the exact requirements, but here is the rumored criteria: Minimum 120,000 tier miles on EK (yearly) with the above, Minimum 10 (ten) of the sectors contributing to the 120k must be in Full Fare J (D,I class excluded) or any class of First. And the benefits are: 1) First Class Lounge access in DXB 2) First Class Check-in and Bag Priority at all stations 3) Chauffeur Drive (irrespective of class) DXB ONLY 4) Guaranteed seat in all discounted economy classes, and full J 5) Guaranteed go-shows in Y 6) 150% status bonus 7) More op-ups 8) + all offered currently in gold...... :)

Has any one had to do this recently? We need to get one asap for the car we are buying. New to Dubai so dont have a clue! The car is at the Volvo dealer now getting other checks done but they can not do the valuation. Please help! Any advices/recommendations welcome! TIA The Volvo dealer should at least be able to direct you to a place for valuation. I had sold my Lexus and the buyer just called the Lexus dealer and we went to an Al Futtaim showroom to get it done. I am not sure if you need to go to one that deals with a specific brand, but this one I went to was down a few shops from Times Square Mall. It costs 500 Dhs for the valuation. Should go before 12pm before their lunch time, so that they can the paperwork done or you would have to wait for a few hours to get it.

We had been to Maldives in May before, and I remember it rained for a couple hours at a time, and we were still able to do some snorkeling and such in the morning. Keep in mind that during summer monsoon season, one should expect strong winds and heavy rain showers occur more than often, and can last anywhere from a couple of hours to several days at a time. We were also there once in July and it rained almost non-stop during our 4 day stay there :( and my family went to an island close to the one we stayed at on the day we left and had 5 straight days of sunny beautiful weather! So it depends on luck as well :) Having said that, we are going next month again and I will pray for good weather :) Have a great time!

No worries at all. As long as any liquid/cream you have does not exceed the 100ml per item and 10 items total (max 1000ml), you can carry them on board. Just keep them all in a ziploc bag as some airports are more stringent than others. Worse case scenario, you can always ask the flight attendants if they have extra toothpaste on board :) edited by Saharagypsyrose on 13/04/2011

They usually charge the same price per pax but you go in a different truck that go directly into the camp and skip the dune bashing and you still get to enjoy the other activities, show and dinner at the campsite. My DH must be the only person to get stopped for bringing in too much booze, He had 4 litre of spirts and 24 cans of beer and got stopped, although they were really good and let him return to duty free for a refund on the excess, although maybe they should never have sold it all to him in the first place! No, i got stopped too. I had one extra bottle of wine and the custom lady was making a stink of it, demanded to see all of them (I brought them from home) and asked me to hand over my passport and then kept it in her pocket! Needless to say I was shaking in my sandals! I guess you are lucky if your bags didn't get scanned at the end with your excess "contraband" :). Now I make sure I stick to 4L per person.

Ladies you are fantastic, thank you for all the below:) Well I called Bridgestone (Al Nabooda) and the total including wheel alignment would come to AED4340 so already saving a little more. I don't want to go with super cheap tyres as would like something decent but still saving 1-1.5k is still great as my OH got a price of around 6k for Dunlop tyres through his friend! Needless to say, happy I did my own homework:) Cheers ladies That's still some savings ;) Wow! 6K? Your OH was probably misquoted from the Dunlop shop as the last they quoted me for an IS300 was 575 Dhs for front tires, the back tires are slightly more as they are wider. They also sell Bridgestone tires (same model RE050 as original tires) for 4150 for 4 and Michelin for 3700 for 4. Had to replace mine earlier, so already did some research :)
